Research was undertaken at the Cape of Good Hope by explorers whose books, manuscripts and drawings concerning mammals and birds are listed and discussed within this text.;This text gives details on four collections of 300 mammal and bird drawings connected with Levaillant's research. Many examples are illustrated. The zoological contents of the material left by these seven explorers are analyzed for all mammals and birds emphasizing the history, taxonomy, nomenclature and zoogeography.

I love Perry wood's other book REAL RIDING.
And I imagined this to be a book rather than a boolet. There was good info in it, but I wanted more.
There were pictures of horse comunication postures and descriptions of what they meant, but it would have been nice to have "What you do if this posture shows up" section.

Kaplan SAT Score-Raising Dictionary.......2007-09-01

The best way to learn vocabulary is through reading. There comes a point
in studying for the SAT; wherein, a volume like this one would be helpful.
This text has typical words and their usage set forth in an easy-to-read
format. It's important to have comprehensive definitions and sentences
because memorizing vocabulary for the SAT exam would be pointless.
Sample words are:
o abrasive
o accentuate
o alacrity
o ascetic
o benign
o cacophony
o cadence etc.

This dictionary would be invaluable in order to assist in mastering
the diction requisite for success on this exam.

SAT Dictionary.

This is the easiest and most efficient way to learn vocabulary words on the New SAT. Its way better to learn the vocabulary words than those enormous phonebook-sized SAT preps. I carried the Dictionary in my pocket almost all the time. When ever I had my spare moments, I flipped a page and Bam! (I'm learning new words.) Flashcards do not have the time-saving ability that this versatile SAT Dictionary offers. Furthermore, the characters depicted in the book are very intriguing. My favorite characters are Josh and Timmy. The sentences involving them made me laugh a few times and helped me retain words through laughter. Paul is pretty cool too. You'll meet them once you buy the book :).

In addition, I took the January 28th SAT test. In the 19 sentence completions of the test, I saw many vocabulary words that were on the Dictionary.
For example: prosaic, ambivalence,tenacious,voracious, facile, and vociferous to name a few. The rest of the vocabulary words which I saw were also on the Dictionary but I could not retain their full meaning because I (procrastinated) and failed to remember a high percentage of words.

Don't procrastinate! If you have at least 3 months until the test. As an experienced SAT taker, my word of advice is: study NOW. Sacrifice video games,TV,Chess,Runescape and all your time-consuming activities for the SAT. Because those months will go flying, time will go so fast that you won't even realize that have you a few weeks left.

Also remember: if you have achieved to learn all or at least a high percentage of these 1,000 most frequently tested SAT words. Give yourself 200+ on the Critical Reading Section. The 19 sentence completions are about 200-260 points.

Not your typical SAT prep book.......2005-08-30

I like this dictionary. Some of the sentences are actually funny and reading about the freaks at Anytown makes studying for the SAT almost bearable. Much better than boring flash cards.

Kaluta is one of comic art's most revered artists, providing a blend of graphic color images and fantasy covers and designs which are rich in texture and packed with content. It's especially pleasing to find all of his images under one cover, from sketches and work from his comics to full-page color presentations - many never seen before. Both prior fans and newcomers will find Wings Of Twilight captivating.

My only complaint about the book is there's just not enough of it! Kaluta's work really requires a multi-volume retrospective to demonstrate the breadth and depth of his astonishing talent. Anyone whose work recalls Moebius, Hal Foster, George Grosz, Alfons Mucha, Frank Frazetta and Heinrich Kley all at once deserves a far wider audience.

Get this book, then scour the used-book sites and get copies of "The Michael William Kaluta Treasury" and "The Michael Wm. Kaluta Sketchbook". Oh yeah, and "Metropolis".

Go to the guy's web site (not hard to find) and see for yourself.

The Artist Takes a Look.......2001-05-27

Finally: it's out! After a year and a half of digging through chromes and wrestling over the selections, Wings of Twilight, the Art of M.W Kaluta, has hit the stands, and, as the Artist In Question, I have to say I'm delighted! Lots of Color, Lots of b/w drawings and Prelims. A full set of my Tolkien Illustrations and a good group of pictures from METROPOLIS... add to that a fair number of previously unpublished pieces and there you have it... a fine collection of The Big Stuff... it's been 20 years since this type book on my work has been published. Not since The Studio, in 1980, has there been a nice overview of what I do, alone, at home .

I gave the book 5 stars because, frankly, I am overwhelmed. However, there are about 4 pictures printed in reverse, and ONE printed Upside Down... but only I will know!

Great book. REALLY Glossy photos.......2006-11-02

I recieved this book about 4 days ago and looking through it find it a great resource. They used some very unusual method of prniting the images, they are super glossy almost like photos stuck into the book ratehr than a printed page. Very clear images. A little more info on tending for plants, substrate and filtration would have been great too.
all in all well worth the purchse.

Inspiring tank setups.......2001-09-12

This is a beautifully photographed book, with many ideas for creating natural or biotope type aquarium setups. They range from heavily planted setups to rocky Rift Lake tanks. There are suggestions for fish, plants and technical considerations. The book does not go into large amounts of detail about individual fish species or habitats, but if you are looking for inspiration on aquascaping your tank(s), it is one of the best books I have seen on the subject.

A list for aquascape planning........2000-02-04

I find myself repeately browsing the stunning photos for ideas. The data tables are a very useful list of optimal water conditions for each habitat. This is not a biology book, but an excellent resource for someone who wants to plan an aquascape. This book lists combinations of plants and fish (a very helpful start, in a hobby with thousands of options.) Now I can narrow my search for specific information on specific species of plants and fish from other books. This is a book that I go back to over and over.

This book looks very nice. But after reading it i was greatly disappointed. No news, just traditional aquarium setups. And the setups not remotely loking natural. To many species of plants organized like a suburbian garden, not like the wildernes af amazon jungle river or pond. The authors are not very creative. No new suggestions on which materials to use, and on top of that, the book is full of adds, and do deliver any objective or new perspectives on the technical setup of a fish tank that could help you create the illusion of a natural aquarium. all in all Dissapointing

Unique and Highly Recommended.......2001-04-05

The authors of this excellent book are the founders of the "International Course on Wood Conservation Technology", held in Norway every other summer since 1982. This course brings together conservators from all over the world to exchange ideas and to get updated on the latest technology for the conservation of wooden buildings and historical artifacts. At the same time, the authors have served as the management team of the ICOMOS International Wood Committee, organizing seminars around the world which highlighted local wood preservation traditions while developing the Wood Committee's "Principles for the Preservation of Historic Timber Buildings", the set of internationally agreed-upon preservation guidelines which protect wooden buildings inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, the list of the world's historic landmarks. This situation has given the authors broad knowledge of wood preservation practices around the world and a true authority to compare and contrast these practices, which they do in this book with wit and judicious care. In a literature comprised of often diffuse collections of highly academic papers describing culturally-specific technical minutiae, this overview is absolutely unique and profound. The book is in no way a primer, though there is enough basic information on wood chemistry and morphology to allow professionals of other disciples to "enter". The text is full of practical examples which conservation and building professionals will find stimulating, though it is definitely not a "how to-, do-it-yourself" type book - the authors awareness of the cultural differences of their worldwide audience has prevented this. And the phrase "an ecological approach" in the title is not a collection of trendy buzzwords included to promote crossover market sales. Considerations of appropriate technology, preservation of old-growth forests, and redevelopment of traditional craft skills are central to it's arguments, and it has truly useful and interesting insights for readers from other disciplines, including forestry, ecology, sustainable development, etc. Even though the authors are not native speakers of English, the text is clearly understandable and directly stated. The style is terse without being dense, intelligent without being academic. Though American readers may find the quoting of portions of the ICOMOS International Principles as introduction to several of the early chapters somewhat intimidating, they are encourged to read on. This is not a dry, bloodless technical tome. The authors personal enthusiasms and wit shine through. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Boxwood (buxus sempervirens) is probably the most versatile and popular of topiary plants and the oldest garden ornament known to man. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that the ancient Egyptians were using box for topiary 6000 years ago.

Quick and Easy Topiary and Green Sculpture, quickly gets in, and quickly gets out without much substantive information to offer the reader beyond a perfunctory overview on this exciting, and ancient historic clipped form of statuary. Verbal brevity and conciseness characterize the scant text. The photography is attractive. The modern shaping suggestions with overly simple armature may be entirely too kitsch for some.

Great Introduction to Topiary.......2000-05-27

I found this book exciting and encouraging to a beginner in the wonderful world of topiary. The ideas cover a wide range of shapes and ideas offering ideas for a quick start as well as more complex projects. The instructions are clearly written and easy to follow. The book also includes discussion on the preferable types of plants to use for the various shapes and designs presented. I continue to refer to this book often as I begin new projects.

This book is very similar to his other, more recent book, Publish your own magazine, guidebook, or weekly newsletter: How to start manage, and profit from a homebased publishing company. It has a lot of valuable information included. It covers alot in the book. Williams has a conversational tone that makes the book an easy read. It includes many helpful suggestion like starting out with little cash (and how he did it), trade secrets necessary to pick winning publications,how to hire the people you need (at a price you can afford), how to save money on printing, and reproducible Business Forms. It's a valuable book to have. Although I would recommend getting the other book.
