Lacking.......2005-11-23

I have loved almost all Daheim's books, and reading them in no certain order, but this was one I couldn't wait to put down and not recommend. It seems no thought was given to the characters.....they have no real substance to them like in her other books. Judith herself seems like she has lost her gumption along with her wit and is just rambling through this story trying to out-do her hubby in guessing the murderer, even though she denies it. There is no heart in her sleuthing and even Renie seems less like Renie. Even Gertrude was down right annoying and I usually just find her annoyingly funny! Maybe Daheim's heart wasn't into this book when she was writing. It sure shows. If it weren't for Sweetums and Phyliss I would have put the book down.

The Bride Goes Over the Balcony.......2001-04-28

Having read the other 11 books in this series, I was a little disappointed in this one. The book starts out well enough with the wedding of Judith Flynn's son Mike and his long-time girlfriend, Kristen. We have heard a lot about Mike in previous books in the series, but this is the first time he has actually appeared in one. While they are at the rehearsal dinner for Mike's wedding, Judith sees a man in a tux pushing a woman in a bridal gown over a balcony. When her policeman husband Joe is unable to find a body, Judith begins to doubt her sanity. Thereafter we are introduced to a parade of characters, who seem eccentric but somewhat disconnected. Judith, of course, continues her own investigation, trying to stay one step ahead of her husband. The plot is hard to follow and when the killer was revealed I almost didn't care any more. In her attempt to throw out red herrings, author Danheim just makes this book difficult to read.

Getting Worse Instead of Better.......1998-09-03

Mary Daheim's 12th (I think) Bed-and-Breakfast Mystery is a BIG disappointment. I really try to support my fellow Washingtonians when they turn author, buying works which I freely admit are not always first-rate. I enjoy the local color and keep hoping they'll improve if we faithful readers keep them financially afloat. BUT...after a dozen books, Daheim is getting worse, not better, and I am pulling the plug! Wed and Buried lacks suspense, lacks humor, and lacks charm. Sleuth Judith Flynn is more than usually limp and brainless, cop husband Joe is boring and patronizing, and standbys such as Cousin Renie and Obnoxious Mom lack enough buoyancy to keep this leaden tome afloat. A Cozy Mystery, by definition, should have charm and chuckles. If it's played for farce, it needs the kind of wacky realism one recognizes in good screen comedy--real people caricatured to the point of hilarity. If it's played for satire, it requires a dry understated wit. Daheim, by contrast, has created a cartoon version of Luci and Desi--a charmless Desi and a whiny Luci. Cousin Renie repeatedly asks Judith why she's bothering to try to solve the mystery of the dead disk jockey, and long before the last page, I found myself wondering the same thing. Why bother, Judith, to solve this mystery? Why bother, Mary, to WRITE this mystery? Why bother, Dear Reader, to read this mystery? Never again.

Laura Fleming and her husband Richard return to Laura's hometown in North Carolina to show off their 7-month-old baby and to share in the festivities for her aging Aunt Maggie who just eloped. But the elopement hid something serious. Someone has been trying to kill Big Bill Walters, Maggie's new husband. Laura has a reputation as the best amateur detective in North Carolina. Between nursing the baby and changing its diapers (and frequent sneaking away for private moments with husband Richard), Laura finds time to interview the long list of suspects that a powerful and wealthy man like Big Bob is certain to amass.

Author Toni L. P. Kelner delivers a witty and folksy story with characters that feel real and true. The list of suspects includes Big Bob's fawning son, his bitter daughter-in-law, a hermit with a mother fixation, and a police officer's girlfriend. Any of these are possibilities, but Laura suspects that there is another secret being hidden. And Laura is dogged in her pursuit of secrets. Richard's Shakespear quotes may occasionally seem just a little over the top (does anyone really go around talking like that), and frequent mystery readers will guess the killer, but the entire story is meant to be over the top--these 'flaws' only add to the charm.

delightfully adorable amateur sleuth.......2003-02-02

It has been seven months since Richard and Laura have given birth to their daughter Alice but they are still basking in the afterglow and are acting like typical doting parents. Laura has no intention of leaving her Boston home and going to visit her relatives in her hometown of Byerly. However, when she gets a call saying that Aunt Margie eloped with the town's wealthiest citizen Big Bill Walters, The Flemings hightail it to Byerly as fast as they can.

When they arrive in the Carolinas, Maggie tells them that there have been three attempts made on her husband's life so they married so she can legitimately watch his back. Laura and Richard, who have solved many a murder case in Byerly, immediately tells them will find out who wants Maggie's husband dead. Over the years, Bill has made many enemies but nobody seemingly with a strong enough motive to kill him so Laura and the local police decide to bait a trap and see what they catch.

Laura has so many relatives living in Byerly that they are each taking turns watching Alice while her parents investigates a crime. Lice steals the show without saying a word. Byerly is a small southern town located in North Carolina with an ambiance of genteel civility and welcome. Toni L.P. Kelner has written another delightfully adorable amateur sleuth tale. WED AND BURIED is a quirky, quaint, and refreshing novel.

This is a wonderful book and audio book. I love to listen to it before retiring at night or while driving or walking. This book gives you direction and an A-Z map on how to have abundance and an happier and simpler life. I have found that it is great advice and it works if you apply the advice. It is a type of audio book that can be played over and over again as needed.

I think we can all agree that the author, Deepak

Dr Chopra details a highly readable and easy to follow "map" of creating affluence in every area of our lives. He claims that reading the entire book once through, then subsequently reading 5 pages daily will, if adopted as a lifelong habit... attract wealth!
I suppose any positive habit, if practiced daily, will attract the object of your desire, which is, of course, is precisely the idea.
But, why do we need his or anyone's book to remind us of this tried and true fact?
In my case, I seem to require the reminder to keep my eyes, ears, heart and mind set on the desired goal, rather than focused on the "reality" that IT hasn't shown up yet. Which is so easy to do, isn't it?
Dr Chopra explains how we must live in harmony with what we want for the best, fastest result. This might mean simplifying your life, reducing chaos, resolving unhealthy relationships and minimizing stress.
Yes, easy for him to say... he meditates a million hours a week, no doubt, and probably began before leaving the womb!
I respect him immensely, and wheras I do not buy everything he has written, I do have a few of his books and this one has been particularly beneficial.
I use this book each morning (reading only a tiny section) in conjunction with Wayne Dyer's Meditation for Manifesting CD - the AH & OOHM (sound) meditation. I have discovered using the 2 together is working wonders.
AND, yes... I am manifesting my heart's desire. No, not overnight, like everything in life, practice makes perfect!

This tape is really waste of money. I liked some tapes from Chopra but here he is loosing total focus about what he is talking about.

Deepak chopra must by using some Webster dictionary as he uses ( tries too ) too difficult words which not everyone can understand !

Well, about affluence here ?. Am I listening to some metaphysics session ?. TOTALLY OUT OF FOCUS Sir !

Don't waste your money and ask for refund. Totally out of focus and waste of money.
I hope someone understands about what he is talking about. I wish I could have returned this. Anyway this is my last tape from Deepak chopra.

I would recommend Catherine Ponder's books instead.

The book contains every recipe printed in every issue of Southern Living for the entire year. The chapters are divided into months in case you know which month the recipe you want was printed. At the beginning of each chapter is a listing of the entire months recipes as well as there being an index in the back. What a waste of my money. I did return this for a full refund. (...) Doesn't say much about how they work. The people who are in this book aren't all the artists. It sells the Brewster Society. I agree with everyone else on this person's other books...propaganda!!!!! Avoid this group and anything written by this person.

Don't waste your money.......2001-12-18

I own this book. I also own the other books by this author. After doing some research on the author and this group, I am very sorry I spent any money. All kaleidoscope books by this author are just propaganda for the author and her business...the Brewster Society. The books leave many talented, and in some cases very influential, artists out. It is rare if anyone represented in her books doesn't belong to her group (there are exceptions, but only because they already had a reputation before Cozy wrote about them). A lot of good dealers are left out (on purpose), and a lot of great kaleidoscope photographers are left out. This is Mrs. Baker's idea of what the kaleidoscope world should be and not a true representation of the real kaleidoscope world at all! Save your money!

This lady knows her stuff. Every attribute you ever wanted to know about lavender is here. Though told from an Australian's exposure to lavender it is the bible for lavender grower's in identification of species and their traits. My only wish is it was more directed at America's varieties and conditions but it can be easily enough transferred over. The pictures are stunning and accurately done

Technical Descriptions Available in the "Bible".......2006-08-28

If you are a lavender lover who maintains all the plants in the garden with labels, then this book's for you. In a recent move, the labels of two plants were lost--I needed to re-identify them. This is a technical book right down to it's bracts and sepals. But it also is beautifully photographed so one can identify individual flowers, not just big pictures of a plant's growing habits. The only drawback was falling in love with a particular flower and realizing that it might only be available in her English homeland. But part of the fun of collecting is in the hunt! This book is truly the lavender "bible".

Lavender: The Grower's Guide.......2005-08-30

This is a lovely book full of in-depth information about different types of lavender with beautiful, detailed pictures. It's a great reference source, but works equally well as a coffee table book because it is so stunning to look at. I have only one minor criticism of this book and that is that it doesn't go into enough detail about the Lanata hybrids that seem to do well in our hot, dry southern California climate. I would have liked to have seen more pictures of these particular lavenders (there are a few, but not that many) and would have enjoyed learning more about them.

Usable tehnical growers guide.......2004-06-20

If you are looking for indepth information or good reference material, this is the book for you. No fluff here. Botanical info is clear and concise. As growers, we use this book as reference material on a regular basis. Well worth the money. Would love to see more of this caliber. The only draw back is that several of the varieties listed are not available here in the U.S..

The analysis of scattering of electromagnetic waves in inhomogeneous three-dimensional bounded media is extremely important from both theoretical and practical viewpoints, and constitutes the core family of problems in electromagnetics.

In this monograph the following fundamental topics relating to these problems are considered: mathematical problems and methods related to the scattering of electromagnetic waves by inhomogeneous three-dimensional anisotropic bodies and their reduction to volume singular integral equations; iteration techniques for solving linear operator equations; and efficient methods for solving volume integral equations that employ iteration procedures. Nowadays, volume singular integral equations are widely used as an efficient tool of numerical solution to the problems of complicated three-dimensional structures.

Analysis of integral equations and corresponding scattering problems, including nonclassical ones, is performed in the general formulation. The necessary and sufficient conditions that provide fulfilment of the Noether property of operators and sufficient conditions for the Fredholm property are obtained. Existence and uniqueness theorems for scattering problems considered in both classical and nonclassical settings are proved. Much attention is given to iteration techniques and development of corresponding computational algorithms.

This monograph will be of interest to researchers in electromagnetics, integral equations, iteration methods and numerical analysis both in academia and industry.
