Good Mystery.......2006-10-22
I had a hard time deciding whether I should give it 5 stars or 4 stars, because it took me a long time to get into this book and get interested in the characters. I didn't really care for the setting. To me, it wasn't really cozy enough.
The writing was good. The clues/twists/surprises were clever. The more pages I read, the better it got. When I got to the last 100 pages, I couldn't put it down. It was so interesting, and it kept getting even more interesting by the page.
So while I was deciding whether this deserved a low 5 or a high 4, the last 100 pages convinced me to give it a 5. The last 100 pages were so good - those pages in themselves deserved a very high 5!
Sprinkle creates a vivid sense of location --.......2004-05-11
A small town in Georgia. Her "detective" "Mac" is a 60-something married woman (part-time magistrate and co-owner of the family nursery business). Mac is surrounded by friends, family, and neighbors, and the town she describes is so real you can picture it in your mind. This book almost begs to be made into a movie.
It is February in middle Georgia, and the heavy rain never stops. A friend of Mac and her husband is found lying in the rain, hit by a car -- his own, as it turns out, but the car is found parked in a church some distance away, so this was no accident. How could someone else get behind the wheel of his car and run him down?
The incompetent police chief decides it must be a Mexican new to town, and Mac ends up trying to find out who killed her friend -- she's convinced it wasn't the chief suspect, but she fears it may be a family member or someone else close to the victim.
It is only fair to warn readers that Mac is a Christian and the book is sprinkled with her religious views -- not oppressively so, but somewhat surprisingly so, for a book that I would not classify as a "Christian mystery."
This was my first book by this author but I've already ordered another. She is a delightful find.
YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!!!.......2003-03-04
Patricia Sprinkle has done it again. MacLaren Yarbrough is a fabulous character. I have read every book in the series and each time I feel as if I am visiting an old friend. In fact, I am! The town of Hopemore and the characters that live there remind me of a small town in Georgia where I lived for three years. I am waiting with breathless anticipation for the next installment in the Yarbrough's life in Hopemore, Ga. I hope I don't have to wait too long!
delightful amateur sleuth cozy.......2003-01-18
The quiet town of Hopemore, Georgia is the home of local Court magistrate Judge MacLaren Yarbrough, part owner of Yarbrough's Feed, Seed and Nursery. She counts her blessings especially when it comes to her husband Joe Riddley who is recovering nicely from a head wound that almost killed him. Her next door neighbor Maynard is getting married soon and he has bought himself a BMW, one that he intends to keep no matter that Skell Macdonald is offering him a fantastic deal to buy it back.
Shortly after Maynard and his bride go on their honeymoon, Skell disappears. At the same time, Skell's father Sky, a popular civic-minded town leader is run over by his own car. While the family grieves, the honeymooners are arrested in Orlando for transporting drugs. The police chief and MacLaren feel Skell knows something about this but the magistrate doesn't believe the missing man could have killed his father. She starts her own investigation and almost gets killed by a murderer who has nothing left to lose.
WHO LEFT THAT BODY IN THE RAIN? is an amateur sleuth cozy in which all the violence takes place outside of the pages of the book. There is no blood and gore but there is plenty of thrills and excitement as the sixty-something sleuth uncovers a host of buried secrets and a surplus of suspects. Readers who are fans of Carolyn Hart and Kate Kingsbury will want to buy Patricia Sprinkle's latest and that will lead to desiring the author's previous mysteries.

The best Sprinkle mystery yet!.......2003-01-06
I absolutely loved this book from one of my favorite authors. Patricia is a masterful wordsmith; her illustrations truly come alive. Her characters are so very real and so very southern. I especially appreciate the fact that Mac is not a spring chicken like so many other detectives I read about And this mystery really worked.
Thanks, Patricia!!
Book Description
Jon and Greg Curtis are "navy brats" suffering through another painful relocation. A freak summer storm ravages the beach near their Newport, Rhode Island home, unearthing a chest that contains unusual objects and a map. As Jon and Greg decipher the map, they are drawn deeper and deeper into an exhilarating adventure that eventually leads them beyond the boundaries of the world! Written for late elementary or young adolescent readers, the story raises issues of trust, sacrifice, honor and responsibility. With short chapters that are great for reading aloud, this story promises to become a quick favorite.

A great read.......2007-02-23
I picked this book up and did not put it down untill I was finished. There are not many books that I read non-stop from end to end. The realism of the characters and the freshness of the story were wonderful. I can't wait for the second adventure of Jon and Greg!
The Malleable Blade.......2006-03-19
I'm still reading this at this point. But I'm mesmerized. There's a lot of new fantasy out there, but this one has grabbed me from the very beginning. The writing is excellent, and the plot is very original, and I love how the author obviously has knowledge of the locale in which he situated his story. I'm looking forward to the time I can spend finsihing this delightful adventure. It's a wonderful story, one that would appeal to readers of all ages, one that I can truly see the author spinning over the years as a bedtime tale for his children.

Customer Reviews:
Great Companion book.. this workbook could stand alone.......2007-01-18
I love this workbook, even though I didn't care much for the actual book it is a Companion of. There isn't anything really new in this workbook, but I did find a condensed version of information much better then her style of writting in the actual book. This workbook could stand alone, it has all the information needed, it includes all the meditations and journaling questions found in her book. I would recommend this workbook to someone- but that person should also read other Authors books, to see what meshes well with them. I found I took some of her knowledge in, and left alot out of my personal beliefs.
Life - changing insights to entrenched problems..........2004-05-21
In this book `spirituality' is presented in a most practical and accessible style. Dr Davies writes with such clarity and simplicity and yet with humility and compassion.
An extraordinary wide vista of knowledge is traversed succinctly and lightly but with the rigour and solidity of a medical and psychiatry background. But it is Brenda `s clear and easy to understand framework and contextualisation of practical life `issues' within the context of the charkas or healing centres that is most amazing. The issues covered are vast - from abundance and self esteem to the frustrations of uncovered potential.
A must read for anyone who wishes to gain insights to old entrenched patterns...this book will truly present a fresh way of looking at `issues' and present roadmaps to self healing and discovery.
The structure of the handbook is such that you can either do a quick scan if there is a very particular issue you want to uncover or pause at various places and do some in depth work.
For me personally in my current work it really helped me to understand behaviours and dynamics in workplaces of my own and others - which were not being solved at the level of management development and training interventions.
Go see for yourself......

Book Description
Both practical and inspirational, The 7 Healing Chakras is a voyage of self-discovery that shows people how to achieve their full potential. Introducing the chakras, vortices of energy that connect the physical body with the spiritual, Dr. Brenda Davies follows a clear path through the seven power centers - each characterized by a different color - from the red-colored root chakra near the base of the spine to the white crown chakra at the top of the head.
Exploring the significance of each chakra, the author offers personal guidance and leads the reader in a series of exercises and meditations to unblock each energy channel and clear the psychological, emotional, and spiritual debris of the past. She combines her training as a psychiatrist with ancient methods of healing to provide the tools needed to take charge of mental and physical well-being.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent primer!.......2007-02-18
If you are already familiar with chakras then this book probably is not the one for you; however, if you are looking for an introduction to chakras then this book is a good start. The author takes the time, a whole chapter's worth of time, to devote to each chakra giving you a very clear background and understanding. The exercises are very accurate and easy to do from the first time around. Definately a good starter book :)
Different .. in writting style and not at the Top of my list.......2007-01-18
This is one of the first books I purchased that was strictly on Chakras. Her views and style of writting was OK at the time but since then I have found other Authors that are alot better. I read this book in less then 1 week so it an easy read and doesn't delve very deep. She also devotes a Chapter to each Chakra, and gives a fair overview, correspondences, the rest of it is exercises like meditations and jounaling questions. If you purchase this book you must get the companion book the workbook- the workbook is great, it doesn't really add anythng new, but it better explains the meditations and you can use it for your jounal. I would give the Workbook a higher rating the the actual book! Also most of the information find in this book can be found on the information/correspondences page of the workbook just in less detail. She definetly has her view of Chakras, and through study I just don't mesh well with her views.
Best chakra book I've read.......2006-08-10
This is by far the best chakra book I have read. She not only goes into detail about how each chakra effects you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, but it's filled with exercises. Being an intuitive empath, my favorite exercises are tuning down your chakra exercises to keep negative influences from affecting you. I do that every morning after doing Doreen Virtue's chakra clearing exercise and I feel fantastic all day, but if not, I feel lousy.
Airy- fairy yet negative.......2005-05-18
Vague, airy-fairy descriptions of the chakras are combined with a decisive, my-spiritual-path-is-THE-spiritual-path primer on the basics of spirituality. At one point the author describes "wise, ancient spirits" who are suffering very painful lessons so that they can be closer to God. Do you really want to take spiritual healing advice from someone who projects her own punishment agenda onto the divine (and you!) and glorifies suffering. Check out Karla McLaren's "Your Aura & Your Chakras." Like all authors, she has her own issues to work out, but the information is presented in a much clearer, much more neutral fashion.
A Must Read.......2005-04-25
This is a must read for anyone wanting to know more about the Chakras and how they can change your life. I loved this book so much that I'm going to go out and buy 5 more to give as gifts.
Book Description
For dazzling decorating, fabric can play a starring role in every roomin the house. It can add immediate comfort and warmth to a pillow, cheer to a plain window, or drama to a tailored lampshade. In anything-but-technical text, Fabric explores the almost endless ways textiles can personalize a decorating scheme. Bold colors and serene neutrals, homey tickings and stripes, funky florals and luxurious textures are the tools; swagging a gauzy no-sew curtain for an urbane impression, slipcovering dining room chairs for a summer look, or layering on a virtual crazy quilt of vintage textiles for a cottage makeover can be the results.Throughout, you'll find how-to's and do-it-yourself projects, complete with shopping lists and "Fabric Workshops" that offer glimpses into the studios and homes of artists and decorators who have put fabric to use in new and unusual ways. And more than 100 color photographs illustrate all the imaginative ways fabric can give your home the Mary Engelbreit look. This is the fifth book in a series of Home Companion magazine books. Others are: Paint, Plates, Collections, and Leading the Artful Life

Small book packed with inspirational ideas...........2007-06-28
This book is part of a series that Mary Engelbreit issued a few years ago. This book series is comprised of these nifty little books filled with great ideas, depending on the topic. The photos in the book are absolutely amazing, just as all of M.E.'s books have wondeful photos. Ideas are easy to follow. Very inspirational.

Customer Reviews:
Taming and Training Cockatoos by Risa Teitler.......2007-03-24
This book needs to be taken off the market. The information is so old and out dated. It mostly deals with imported Cockatoos. Cockatoos and other parrots have not been imported since 1996, so it is unlikly anyone will be dealing with such a bird. Also the act of clipping only one wing has been declared cruel.
I really felt ripped off when I started reading this book, because I knew from the start the information was too out dated to be of any good. This book does not deserve a rating of 1, it is a total zero.
Customer Reviews:
The Art of the Serial..........2001-09-04
There is surprisingly little overlap between this book's contents
and the contents of the previous (and sold out) SERIAL MOVIE
POSTERS. One reason is that this new book is based on an
incredible collection assembled by Frank Gutierrez.
What we have are posters from sound serials dating from about 1931 to about 1954, the end of the serial era.
The best of the serial posters are reminiscent of the best pulp magazine covers from the 1920s to the 1950s, and often
are rendered in somewhat the same style. My favorites in the
present volume tend to use a subdued palette, such as
5, for THE GALLOPING GHOST, which is a striking study in
grey, orange and red, or 28, for the orginal FLASH GORDON,
chapter 4, which uses shades of grey, orange, and a few touches
of red. Also lovely is the poster for TIM TYLER'S LUCK, which
uses reds, flesh tones, olive grey and cream shades.
As the 30s wear into the 40s the painted artwork becomes increasingly crude
and amateurish. An exception is 107,
for BRENDA STARR, REPORTER. Artwork tends to become a frame
for a tinted still from the film, and the frames get thinner
and thinner. Still, there are points of interest. The poster
for BRICK BRADFORD (112) is almost as wild as this wildest of
all movie serials.
Serial posters are far rarer than movie posters in general, and
this is a very worthy compilation of images most of us have
never seen, and will never see any other way!

common weeds of the united states.......2007-07-26
I farm and am always curious about weeds that come up in my fields this book has been very helpful, when you know what weeds you are trying to kill, you can pick the right herbicide for the job.
common weeds of the United States.......2006-07-14
The weeds in my pasture was identified by my local AG office and only 1 was in the book out of 5. As far as I'm concerned the book was useless to me.
Common Weeds of the United States.......2006-03-12
It may be an arcane subject; but I wanted to know about these seemingly untamed natural "flowers." They have been here since our ancestors brought the majority of them in from their motherlands. Many came in the bags and cracked leather shows of the first Mayflower passengers to stepoff the boat. I wanted to know the names and habits of these seemingly uninvited guests.
And now my neighbor has borrowed the book, I fear I must buy a second copy.
Identify the wild green in your path!.......2000-06-10
The black ink line drawings by Regina O'Hughes, prepared from herbarium specimens, are exquisite in detail and scientific accuracy and are works of art, besides. The nearly 500 pages, drawings on right hand page (9 inches by nearly 7 inches), text and distribution map on left hand page, make this a comprehensive, yet easy to understand and use, reference book. First published in 1970 by the United States Department of Agriculture, this Dover republication book is a tremendous value for the money and its contents are as timely today as they were 30 years ago. These are the plants that Peterson Field Guides ignored. The book contains an extensive bibliography for those who want to further their study of these amazing plants. This book is definitely worth 5 stars!
