A Must for Lovers of Wild Art.......2005-07-24
I love this book and will treasure it. I hated coming to the end of it and hope to get a copy of his second book - Great Cats - and read of more of his adventures as he travels around the world . Apart from the animals, I think his painting of trees, bushes, grassland and dust is superb. So sad that it was a buffalo that ended his life.

I bought this book as a present for my parents after they took a safari to Kenya. They love this book! It sits on their coffee table and they encourage all who stop by to view it. The story of the author/artists life is remarkable. The beautiful artwork which accompanies the tales of living in Kenya are so life like it's amazing.

A good, fun read.......2003-09-27
I'm not necessarily a fan of the Minnesota Vikings, but I do enjoy anecdotes about football. This is the perfect book for start-and-stop reading. (Dare I say it's a good bathroom book?) The author does a fine job of taking the reader behind the scenes to share in some lively stories. If you're a football fan, I'd recommend this book. If you're a Vikings fan of any age, it's an absolute must!

I started a new carpentry business a while ago. This book really helped me out. Business wise, from figuring manhours, to giving job estimates and to actualy earning money. Skillfull tips such as scribing a jambless window sill and coping crown moulding. I've read many books on this topic, but I have to say this is one of the "best".

Disappointing color reproductions.......2004-06-05
Anyone interested in good color and sharp outlines should definitely avoid this book! Reproductions are sometimes dull and outlines often fuzzy. Very disappointing. I returned it immediately.
Great sampling of Morris' work.......2003-07-03
I truly like this book! It is a 9.5" X 12.5" book in size, with 41 pages, 40 of which have full page with exception of 1" border designs. Only one pattern (Rose Pattern) is narrower. Copyright free designs for personal use, important! and very useful at the copy shop, because the printing is so good that one can extract and enlarge copies at will, this book will not let you down in that respect. Dover gives you wallpaper, tile, fabric & carpet patterns by photograph, very clear, as well as several tapestry designs photographed. Have already enlarged and traced the Cherwell design as well as the Acanthus leaves design for a future tapestry pattern. Perfect! Perfect! Perfect!

Screw up your cat in 300 pages.......2003-11-22
This book had so much wrong information I have to wonder if the author ever went near a cat. Rub a male cats belly? Only if you want to get bitten! With so many other good cat books out there, I avoid this one by a mile.

This book, in an engaging style, will give you the basic information you need to select a kitten or cat and take care of him or her. It covers issues such as purebred vs shelter, kitten vs adult cat, feeding, litter training, claw clipping, ear cleaining, teeth brushing, introducing the cat to other pets, and common illnesses. It also addresses such contraversial issues as keeping cats exclusively indoors and declawing.
It's enjoyable to read, and it was helpful to my husband and me when we brought our first kitty home. It's a good overall reference book, but it does lack depth on many subects. And, as a now experienced cat person, I am not sure I completely agree with all of the author's suggestions, but I do think that he offers good, sound advice for the first-time cat owner.

I have seen some of the things written in this book and i must say i cant say how much i think it is wrong in atleast one area on page 111 it lists the dogs that are not safe around cats one of the breeds listed is the Great Pyrenees a working dog breed used for protecting sheep and other live stock it says that it was "unsafe" to let them alone with cats that is very very wronge maybe some more research should have been done I have bred and raised Great Pyrs for years and grew up with my parents raising them also we had them around everything from cats to horses to birds and very small kids we have never had anything go wronge with them if anything they would always protect them from danger and keep them out of touble My thoughts are that ther should have been more research done before that statment was made

This book is still the best way to identify dolls and accessories. Wonderful pictures by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable collector. If you need to learn about Mattle Liddle Kiddles, you need this book.

Ms. Langford has created a truly wonderful collector's book. The identification and information on each Kiddle doll is comprehensive and indispensable for valuation. Visually, it is a delight just to thumb through page after page of colour photos; a walk down memory lane at it's finest. Other 60's dolls with similar appeal are featured as well. Obviously, I can't say enough about this book.

Ms. Langford has provided kiddle collectors with an invaluable tool for kiddle lovers and nostalgic doll lovers in general. This book provides the most complete coverage of all the kiddle dolls produced by Mattel during the 1960-1970s, and also provides information on other kiddle-related merchandise that was manufactured, such as lunchboxes, play houses, gift sets, and jewerly. It is jam crammed with excellent color photographs of each and every item, and even includes copies of those nostalgic pages out of the Sears Wishbook! This is a MUST for any kiddle lover. I have had Liddle Kiddles carefully packed away for 30 years. Whenever I asked people if they remember them, they said no . . . now I know I was just asking the wrong people!
Much to my astonishment, I found Liddle Kiddles on an auction website, which led to a high recommendation of this book.
I simply cannot believe the thoroughness of the information, the amazing number of photographs, and the easy-to-read layout. This book would have been worth twice the price, no kidding.
I found out all of my Kiddles have names -- something I wasn't aware of. It also reminded me of ones that have long since been gone, and the nostalgia tour made me long for them, but in a happy memory sort of way.
Thank you to Ms. Langford for an outstanding effort, obviously a "labor of love." What a smile she brought to my face as I found out that I am definitely NOT the only one who remembers Liddle Kiddles!

An excellent source for the identification of Liddle Kiddle dolls and all the accessories. Paris has written THE book as far as Kiddles are concerned. I have two and am going to buy a third--this book is invaluable to me.

MISLEADING BRITISH TITLE MASKS HELPFUL BEGINNERS' WORK.......2006-01-22
To begin with, THE FLOWER ARRANGING EXPERT is NOT a book for flower-arranging experts! It's a part of an 18-volume softcover series that covers all aspects of gardening and home agriculture, with volumes bearing names like "The Rock & Water Garden Expert," "The House Plant Expert," and "The Evergreen Expert." Perhaps in their native UK these works are not confused as how-to's for experts only; instead, they take a neophyte and turn him/her into a relatively sophisticated practitioner of the craft, up to the threshold of expertise, as it were.
I used "craft" in the above sentence to distinguish it from "art." The author, D.G. Hessayon, makes it clear in Chapter One that he is offering a set of useful empirical skills. In good blunt English English he differentiates craft from art: "[B]y following the step-by-step instructions you should be able to make attractive displays which your family and friends will admire. Artistry, however, is a talent within you and is not to be found in a book."
So expressionists need not apply, but the interested who wish to establish, draw upon and build upon their skills should find this tome quite useful, and at a good price. The author does a good job of introducing the "mechanics," by which he means tools of the trade like floral foam and the glue gun-while realizing that some people may not make use of these items at all. Hessayon plumps for the innocent freshness of one's own home-grown flowers, but is sophisticated enough to give tips as to how to find a reliable florist with reliably hardy blooms or soon-to-be blooms. He also touches on silks, and includes a glossary for preparation and preservation of dried flowers along with the arranging tips.
Further chapters introduce the classic modes of arranging: the "line," the "mass," the hybrid "line-mass" and "miscellaneous," which can include anything from avant-garde to wreaths and Japanese style-ikebana. This is a relatively short work (128 pp.) so don't expect masses of floral "ideas"; however, the new reader will encounter good illustrated demonstrations about the construction and show of the various types of flower arrangements, and a fair amount of insider "goodies" along the way. I for one especially appreciated the Latin-to-common-name glossary of relevant plants (I never knew that "Limonium" was just plain old purple Stattice!).
For this reason, even an expert will be happy to keep THE FLOWER ARRANGING EXPERT on the garden bookshelf, but it's really best for the assume-no-knowledge newbie. Because of the wealth of information and its helpful, straightforward way in teaching skills, I can recommend it highly.

Myth Debunking story of an American hero.......2004-05-09
OK, so Adolf Hitler did not snub Jesse Owens according to this book. There are more stories about him that have become myth but are not really true. Therefore this book is worth reading.
It chronicles his entire life from Alabama to Chicago and Arizona where he died in March 1980. Important figures in his life, important events etc. And of course his great feats at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin are mentioned. After this, his athletic career goes downhill and he enters in too many jobs, some good, some really bad. It is kinda sad to read bout all off them.
He was a conservative man and did not want to know of the Civil Rights movement in the 60's and 70's which made him clash with the newer black athletes.
On a darker side: his sexual escapades and troubles with the IRS are also mentioned. To me however this book seems far, it gives a balanced view of his life and is also very good to read. His friendship with a German athlete alone is a very nice but sad story, since his friend dies in 1944.
This story seems to me more to the truth than all the myths we hear about him, read it!
