Customer Reviews:
Very Informative.......2007-05-30
I purchased this book and two others prior to showing my 9 mo. old puppy at a four day show with a Specialty in his breed. He placed Second in puppy sweeps on one day of the show and Reserve Winners on another day. In my opinion, my mentor and this book gave me a greater understanding of what the judges look for, how the point system works, how to work with my puppy in segments, and how to handle my dog in the ring. Some breeders at the show said I did fine, my puppy did fine, and that we were a team in the ring.
It was a very exciting and satisfying experience and I look forward to learning more from this book in the future. I am a beginner and there is much to learn.
Great Beginners Guide.......2007-01-18
This book starts at A and goes to Z. I was very grateful when I stepped into the ring the last time and the Judge asked for a "Triangle"...the illustration from this book came to memory and we did just fine though I'd never seen the pattern in practice or at a show! I highly recommend this book and I will no doubt refer to it many times over the coming years. I plan to utilize it as I raise my next litter and look forward to seeing the results when used on a pup from the very beginning!
Raising a Champion: A Beginner's Guide to Showing Dogs.......2006-08-31
Thank you for an awesome beginners guide! Even with confirmation training lessons, this guide is invaluable.
Great book for beginner.......2006-02-20
Great book, really like this book it has helped me alot as I am just beginning in showing. What I really like about this book is it shows detailed pictures and information. It has alot of pages on stacking and gaiting it shows you step by step how to teach your dog to stack and gait.It has information on counting points, how to enter a show and everything you need to bring to a show and how a show works. Really great book for a novice, easy to understand.
Perfect book for the perfectionist in all of us!.......2005-09-16
I own three or four books on showing dogs and I have to say that this book is the most detailed book I've found on the "art" of the dog show. Major confidence booster because they don't leave out a single detail. There's nothing left to figure out, instead it is simply and concisely spelled out. For the novice (like myself) it's a live saver. I suspect that there are some valuable lessons for dog handlers of all levels.
Book Description
An astute observer once described the scene at a typical dog show as "organized confusion." While the action may seem more confusion than organization, the reverse is actually true. It just takes a little while to learn this. Dog Showing for Beginners is the ideal means for the budding exhibitor to grasp the essentials and understand what is unfolding before her or him in this unique recreation. Every chapter has something important to tell the reader. Opening with a candid overview of what to expect from being a part of the sport, Dog Showing for Beginners goes on to help find that first show dog and explain how to get started in showing and hands-on learning. Here are simple explanations of how dog shows are structured and how dogs become champions. Excellent guidance on getting the equipment needed and entering shows is included along with how to approach your first show. This book also helps the reader find a place in dog showing and how to deal with the up and the down sides of the game. From beginning to end, Dog Showing for Beginners is touched with an insider's sometimes irreverent whimsy; as the author points out, if you're going to do dog shows, a sense of humor is a definite plus!
A Howell Dog Book of Distinction

Dog Showing for Beginners .......2006-07-15
Informative and helpful for first match. I would've liked it to be more in depth but I guess that's why this one if for beginners.
I'm smart & been brought up right :-).......2003-02-15
Anyone who reads the book will recognize that phrase, "You're smart and been brought up right". And if have I owe it all to Ms. Hall.
I learned things here that I've never understood about showing but have heard old showmen say & Ms. Hall takes us through our first dry run of a show, with that 'bright youngster' & finally tells us how long to bang our heads against the post before giving up because chances are, our first dog is probably a dud:-( and we'll have to try again.
I am planning to hit the Spring circuit & show in my first (keep it small) show then. Thanks to Ms. Hall I can honestly say I don't think I get points but at least now the whole thing isn't so mysterious. If you want to show dogs, BUY THIS BOOK.
Hope to see you at Westminister!
Not for a complete beginner.......2002-04-17
I found this book very interesting, but I have competed in several shows so most of the info wasn't "new" to me. I still think it's a great read and will help you understand the sport. It's the book you should probably purchase once you've seen what goes on at shows and have a basic idea of dog showing and will help you in your final decision of whether or not to show your dog. It also explains that you cannot go to your first show and expect an impressive win e.g. Best in Show.
Best book I've read in 30 years of showing dogs.......2002-02-14
I hesitated to look at a book that is entitled "Dog Showing For Beginners" as I have been showing dogs for 30 years. BUT, I absolutely loved this book because of the keen insight into every aspect of showing dogs. No, it isn't a training book, you DO need to go to handling classes to learn that, but I have never read a book so complete on the logistics of showing dogs. It is written from the perspective of someone who remembers what it was like to start showing dogs, and she walks you through every step and lets you know just how to be prepared and what to expect. If you are new to showing, you MUST have this book, it will answer EVERY question you have about how dog shows and the people who attend them "work". My favorite chapter and a most important point is about the politics - YES, you DO have to know what is going on behind the scenes! You will not be disappointed in this book, even if you are an old timer like myself.
"Not Really For Beginner's".......2000-08-02
When I bought this book I thought that it would help me understand everything I needed to know about dog showing. I thought that it would teach me about how to handle, train, and basically get started in dog showing. The book didn't help me in any of those topics, it said to just go get lessons or attend matches. If you are looking for a book that explains the system and politics of dog showing than this is the book for you. But as for beginners who don't know the first thing about showing this wasn't helpful.

Excellent for the beginner to know what to do, how to do it, how to dress in the show ring.
Awesome!.......2007-04-25
I love this book. I have been showing dogs for the past 2 years and am still learning. This book was very informative! I have learned more in this book than in 2 years of winging it! Buy this book you will not be dissapointed!~
The Absolute to have for a starter.......2007-02-19
To start to show your dog this book should be your first reading. It was recommended to me by an AKC showdog breeder/handler.(Without this book I would have a hard time to understand the point system) Covers all the aspects of showing a dog from anatomy to the paperwork in an easy to read, and entertaining format. The "Tips from a Pro" is priceless.
I strongly recommend to anybody how is thinking to show their dog, or just to be familiar with dogshows and what handlers are doing in the ring and why.
Great Beginner's Book.......2006-11-04
Easy to read, concise instructions, great for a novice/junior who wishes to begin showing pets in any areana. Would recommend this for any person who is contemplating showing dogs.
The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Showing Your Dog.......2006-07-14

Customer Reviews:
Truly Magical.......2007-09-17
I have been a professional Tarot reader for over sixteen years, and it is rare for me to read books on Tarot. While perusing a page on Amazon of Tarot books, I came across this one and felt instantly drawn to its title. When I received the book and started reading, I found myself enchanted from the first sentence. Ms. Morgan is an excellent writer, presenting her thoughts in a lovely and endearing way. But what I took away from this book was an even deeper appreciation of the power of intuition in Tarot reading and the truly sacred knowledge that the cards can highlight for us. Ms. Morgan's little book re-ignited in me the excitement for Tarot that I haven't felt since I first acquired a deck of cards ages ago. This book can definitely be read and used by anyone interested in Tarot, whether a seasoned practitioner or an absolute beginner. Thank you, Ms. Morgan, for this wonderful book!
Trust your intuition.......2007-07-04
For 15 years Tarot was an absolute mystery to me, until somebody told me to stop reading books about tarot and start reading the cards. Michele Morgan is doing exactly the same, and lets me wish I would have read this book 15 years ago. With each step the author not simply how to begin reading the tarot with your own intuition, but also why her advices work. If I had only one sentence to explain this book, this one would it be: Michele Morgan changes every mystic dogma into true fairy magic!
I really like this book.......2006-08-19
I learned tarot from this book, and I think its a great beginner's book. I recommend it to my friends who are interested in learning tarot, or even already know it and are looking for fresh perspectives on it.
Airheaded........2005-08-24
Though this book provides a refreshing perspective on the interpretation of the tarot (no more little white booklets with keywords!), I found it rather bland and predictable. It certainly has a joyful tone and inspiring message, but the intuition is much more complicated and unreliable than implied in this book. Though I don't doubt Ms. Morgan's sincerity, it seemed like something written to appeal to the New Age mass market and not much more.
If you have even a passing acquaintance with intuited divination, this book will not present you with any new information. If you are interested in a more serious and detailed look at tarot interpretation, try the works of Rachel Pollack.
Just like her class!.......2004-08-05
I was fortunate enough to take Michele's Intuitive Tarot class several years ago. It totally freed me do readings intuitively, and as a result , more acurately and with more depth. Her book is just like the class, fun, informative, and easy to understand. It makes her experience and what she has to teach accessible to everyone. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who wants, needs, or is being guided to an understanding of the Tarot beyond 'book learning'.

Book Description
Help Your Cat PURRFORM His Best!
Research has proven that you can make your cat smarter. Whether your cat is gifted or intellectually challenged, you can help him become a certified Felinestein -- a more effective communicator, better problem solver, and faster learner.
Felinestein includes 100 games and activities, some for every type of owner and every personality of cat, that will get your cat exploring, thinking, and making decisions. Incorporating just a few of these challenges into your cat's life will spark his brain power and enrich his life. Most importantly, it will help the two of you bond on a whole new level.
Customer Reviews:
Perfect for the type-A cat owner.......2003-09-14
If you're like me, and you demand excellence from your pets, FELINESTEIN is the perfect guide. For many years I suspected that my cat wasn't living up to his potential. He would do little more than sleep on the windowsill and lick himself occasionally; he was using large quantities of catnip; he stopped associating with other cars; and he lost all interest in his favorite toys--the scratching post and the little rubbery thing on the end of a stick. I suspected that, deep down, he wanted more out of his life. He was tired of the humdrum existence, but was unable to express himself clearly. Now, after just six months of using the puzzles in this book, my cat can open doors, flush toilets, play hide-and-seek, operate the remote control, and even has a rudimentary understanding of the answering machine. He shows more self-assuredness now with other cats, and--with his added confidence--has apparently impregnanted many of the neighborhood she-cats who previously wouldn't look at him. The book is by no means a guidebook to TRAINING your cat; so, rest assured, your felinestein will remain as independent as ever. In fact, now that my cat can open doors, I haven't actually seen him for several days. I know he's in the house, because he goes through the refrigerator at night, and sometimes leaves a mess in the kitchen. But this is a small price to pay for the satisfaction of knowing that your cat is happier, more fulfilled, and better equipped for his life, both on the windowsill and out in the world.
Fun read but..........2001-05-26
This book has some interesting ideas about how to increase your cat's intelligence, but.... I guess my cat is just a big dummy. I don't think any of the techniques worked. I'm just proud of having taught my cats how to open doors.... but this book would make an excellent gift for your cat-loving friends who has everything.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book for reference and realistic price guide.......1999-06-06
This book is a must for the used equipment buyer. The equipment is critiqued by the author and the book well written and easy to understand. I buy and sell gear and use this book as a realistic price guide and for reference. There are many makes and models of cameras. When choosing a camera it is hard to determine what to buy and how much to pay. McBrooms Camera Bluebook helps you make an informed decision. I am anxiously awaiting the new edition.

Book Description
A deeply touching saga of one family's experience flowing richly across three generations. Wind Chimes and Promises is dramatic, suspenseful, funny. Most of all human. It tugs heartstrings and beckons the imagination through the specter of human emotions.
Customer Reviews:
Genuine Love.......2003-01-21
"Wind Chimes And Promises", a well written story about a genuine loving and compassionate family. Ms. Adair wrote her heart out by taking her readers on a journey from Homer, Georgia(Banks County) to Indianapolis, Indiana. This was an excellent book. I pray Ms. Adair continue to share her God given talent with us.
Rich family history shared with the reader........2002-12-29
This book was a wholesome story of a family's life spanning fifty years beginning in Georgia and ending in Indiana. Ms. Adair-Ward has done an excellent job drawing the reader into the joy and pain of her family. The story provided plenty of history about Indianapolis and the black community beginning in the early 1900's.
Will and Sally Knowx owned a large farm in Homer, Georgia where there was plenty of room to roam for a family of twelve. During the early 1900's the south of full of racism and klan activity were reported widely. The Knoxes were forced to leave their home, family members and friends behind when rumors surfaced that the klan were targetting Papa. After an altercation in town Papa quietly moved his family to Indianapolis, Indiana. Little did they know that the klan were moving their headquarters to Indiana about the same time.
Life for the family was different but their love sustained them.
Indianapolis was an exciting place to behold with all the bright street lights and the trolley. But there was not as space as in the south. There was talk about Riverside Amusement Park and its limited access to blacks. Segregation was alive and well in this city.
Papa Will was easy on the kids but Mama Sal was quite the disciplinary, despite her petite stature. She did not tolerate anyone messing with any of children. She had to pay a visit to the children's school early on to rectify a problem that had arisen with her boys.
They also had plenty of mischief shared by all the children. Prudence in particular was quite headstrong.
One incident in particular was when Prudence and her sister Blance had snuck off to the Douglas Theater to see an old friend perform. They had lied and said that they were going to a game at the school. Of course Mama Sal knew about the escapade. Nothing got past Mama Sal, she seemed to know everything.
Pick up a copy of this book to find out what became of the Knox family. It will truly be worth the money.
The Heritage of Love and Stengths.......2002-05-09
What a wonderful book. I have read, "Wind Chimes and Promises" twice. If any reader of this delightful book has an imagination; they must be able to here Sal's wind chimes. I laughed at the antics of the Knoxes boys. I cried upon the deaths of Papa and Sal. I understood what Pru. went through with her husband. This book delivered a message about a Black family. A Black family moving and adjusting to the life from a small southern city to Indianapolis. Mrs. Adair opened her heart, put pen to paper and shared the courage, endurance, perserverance and most of all love of a large family. Well done Mrs. Phyllis J. Adair.
The Passing Down of "Sal's" Strengths and Virtues.......2002-05-09
What a delightful book! I have read this book at least two times, and it keeps getting better. How wonderfully unique Mrs. Adair writes. I not only read, "Wind Chimes and Promises" I went further, and placed myself in the mist of a large, close knit family. What a joy to read of the strengths portraid, and the Prayers of Sal and Pru. It is very obvious this author did excellent research. I cried when "Papa and Sal." died. I loved reading about the events from the dinners at the "Knoxes." Mrs. Adair has placed so much love and patience in this book, and the readers are all the better for it. A Black family movin and adjusting from life in the South to life in Indiana. This book exhibited endurance, perserverance and a lot of love. Well done Phyllis J. Adair.
Remembering Times of Long Ago........2002-01-08
I was deeply touched by Ms. Adair's ability to share the history of her family in a way that recaptured days of my own youth and the joys I experienced with my family. Her story can be my story and the story of so many people. I cried at the sadness of the family leaving home for an unfamiliar place and the circumstance that lead to the move. I laughed at the sibling rivalry and I found myself smiling because it bought back so many childhood memories. I was reminded of how much fun it is to have a large family, even in the hard times. Wind Chimes and Promises was a joy from cover to cover. It brimes with family love and devotion; excitement as well as momemts of tenderness. It was the kind of reading that you couldn't stop until you were finished, and it left you wishing for more. I recommend it as a must read. I hope this will not be the last we hear from Ms. Adair, she is a gifted writer.
