Essence of Taiji Qigong.......2007-09-16
At certain critical areas, the decriptions are ambiguous i.e. the cavities and names along both conception and governing vessels that yi and qi should pass or they do not matter. Also, Fig 3-40 and 3-41 are imcomplete or not clear.
Essential text for Chinese martial arts.......2007-01-28
This book gets to the core of everything you can learn about the ancient martial arts of Tai Chi and Chi Gung. Thorough explanations of history, techniques, purpose of motion, chi energy movement, chi/body/mind interconnectivity, proper breathing, postures, etc. Well illustrated with plenty of exercise "sets" including a nice warm-up. This book will be a great help with your training and an important reference in your library.
Inspiring!.......2004-02-13
As with all of the books by Dr. Yang, this is a stand alone book which you can learn easily from. He first provides his theoretical foundation of both Qigong and Taiji, and then moves deeper into the subject matter, going to a point well beyond most, if not all authors on this subject.
An incredible amount of information is transmitted in each of Dr. Yang's books, and though the first few chapters are there go get any reader at any level up to speed on his basic theory, when he gets into the main subject matter it is really very amazing.
The Essence of Tai Chi Chi Kung.......2001-06-16
As a stundent of Tai Chi for many years I am constantly in search of knowledge to perfect my art. This book relays the special meaning and purpose of the movements. I rate it in a class with those of the great Chen Man-Ching, and my teacher, Marshall Ho'o. It is "the essence of Tai Chi Chi Kung".
Book Description
If you find learning Latin daunting, Teach Yourself Beginner's Latin is just what your language teacher ordered. The book makes for a friendly introduction to the language that's easy to follow, from start to finish. In contrast to other courses, it presents an exciting and humorous text, set in a medieval monastery that is under threat of attack from Vikings. It includes:
- Enhanced English-Latin and Latin-English vocabularies
- A special section on pronunciation
- Fascinating language and cultural information
- CD for quick and easy access to lessons, dialogues, and exercises
Customer Reviews:
A very good one for beginners.......2007-09-08
How can you make it easier for people to start learning a language?
-- Make the language look as easy as possible. Use a serpentine and not a straight road.
-- Do not try to teach 50 words a lesson, try to make it 10-15.
-- Try to grade grammar by offering very basic texts with a strongly controlled variety of structures. You don't even need to teach the whole chart, teach it line by line.
-- Boost the learner's confidence with an audio material to help get over the intimidating barrier of "how the heck should this sound?" ...
This is the secret of this book, it makes you believe that you can actually learn the language. You won't think that Latin is an ivory tower built of strange vocabulary and an impenetrable mesh of intricate rules.
A work well done.
Odd.......2007-05-06
Seems like a very amateurish production. I'm still confused as to how to use the materials. The CD is almost worthless (it's filled with stories, but doesn't teach you the basics of pronunciation).
This product is a shame because it appears to be one of the only audio Latin programs available. I'm going to renew my search though.
A fun to get an overview of the language.......2007-01-15
Years ago I enjoyed going through this book. It doesn't place enormous demands on the reader in terms of vocabulary memorization or learning lots of grammar. If I remember correctly, although it takes the reader through the subjunctive mood, it steers clear of subtleties. Mainly, I remember the amusing story line.
This book would be great for a first semester introductory course in Latin, where the teacher's main interest was to present students with an outline of the Latin language, preparatory to a more in-depth treatment in subsequent semesters.
Another good part of the book is the frequent excerpts of classical authors as late as Boethius (perhaps later, I don't remember). The student will not likely be able to translate these on his own but a teacher might use them to illustrate how various points of grammar come into play in real passages. Reading extended portions of these authors in translation would be a good way of introducing a Latin Civ. element into the course.
I don't know anything about the CD that accompanies the book.
Also, caveat emptor: this book teaches very basic Latin grammar and employs a small vocabulary. It does not provide sufficient grounding to allow one to go on and translate Cicero or Livy. For this, a student needs to complete a more comprehensive grammar like Wheelock or Gavin Betts' Teach Yourself Latin.
Finally, because the story takes place in a medieval setting, the class can consider the persistence of Latin into the early modern period as a language that allowed communication across cultures.

INDISPENSIBLE.......2004-12-16
These two books, along with the companion Golden Age volumes (I and II) are essential for the serious comic fan and collector. Here are covers of every Marvel comic from 1940's to 1991. Even though I am basically a one-character collector (Spider-Man) and am one book short of having every one ever published, these books are gems! Beautiful color photos of every cover on rich, glossy paper really brings these dynamic covers to life. Although basically a Spidey collector, I grew up reading all of the Marvel heroes and am still fans of them all. These 4 books (these two and the first two volumes dealing with Golden Age books) show comics to be the works of art we all know they are. These books might be a bit too serious for the casual comic enthusiast but are worth their weight in gold for the serious collector!

Book Description
The reader will find much in this third book in a trilogy of information on growing giant pumpkins. How-to-Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins, III presents the newest information on cultural methods, who's who, and records. New ideas about plant size and pruning strategies throw a whole new light on the grower with only a small area to devote to giant pumpkins. New discoveries involving the use of considerably more calcium in feeding programs, a steadily growing consensus on the use of nitrogen, the beginnings of a real effort at applying genetic theory in pollination strategies, how-to select the best seed, and the controversial subject of genetic manipulation, all required an airing-out here.
The explosion in the number of growers gathering information via the internet, either through website information, or through open forums with other growers via message boards, has become a major accelerator in the learning curve of all growers. Seed auctions, message boards, and a site devoted entirely to maintaining a database of pumpkin genetic backgrounds, all contribute to a shortening of the time it takes to succeed in this sport. I would be remiss if I did not spend the time to write about these valuable resources, and convey any new discoveries to you.
If you want to grow a world record giant pumpkin, you will find much in this book to to help you.
If your goal is 1500 pounds, then you've come to the right place.

A Must Have.......2004-03-26
Part III of the "trilogy" is a beautifully done book that you will read again and again. It introduces you to some of the top growers in the world and gives the latest growing techniques. I would suggest getting part II as well.
What A GREAT BOOK!!.......2004-03-26
This is a great follow up to the other two books. It goes into great detail about genetics inparticular. It also covers just about everything else very nicely. As a pumpkin grower myself this book helped me grow a 370.6 pound pumpkin my first year! You could grow one too with the expert advice of this book!

A great book!.......2000-05-24
This is a very well written and interesting book, for anyone wanting to get into the hobby/sport of giant pumpkin growing. In fact, I would consider it a must! There is a lot of good quality photography, appropriate to the subject.
It's the Pumpkin Grower's Bible.......1999-01-03
We ordered 40 books for sale at our 2nd Annual Pumpkinfest in Beautiful Prince Edward County. They sold out completely before Christmas. Looks like we will need some more before our seed Seminar in March. This book is a must if you are interested in growing Giant Pumpkins.
The best place to start ,in giant pumpkin growing........1998-11-19
Don has done a masterful job of initiating the first time grower into the exciting world of giant pumpkin growing. Easy to follow hands on advice. This book is the place to start !
Customer Reviews:
Great work, great photography and writing!.......2000-06-27
I really love a how-to book that uses great photos to illustrate. This book is perhaps that best that I have seen in this regard. The photos are simply superb. I think photos in a book like this should be one part "eye candy" to draw interest, and two parts used to illustrate a point or to inform. Again, this book is the best I've seen on this point.
The writing is also excellent. Its well researched and well written in a simple, yet pleasing style. Of course, if you're into growing giant pumpkins this book is absolutely essential, and you probably have it, or should get it. If you're not into pumpkins but want to write a "how-to" book, get this one to see the best.
Don't go in the patch until you read this book, period!.......1999-10-11
This colorful, informative book covers everything a grower needs to know to grow a pumpkin that will be the envy of the neighborhood. I give a tremendous amount of credit to this book for having helped me to grow an 819 pound pumpkin. If you have any desire to grow a giant pumpkin, then this book is worth its weight in gourds.
Read this book and start a hobby that will last a lifetime.
WONDERFUL BOOK for giant pumpkin growers!.......1998-11-22
I have read and enjoyed this book - more importantly the information was great in helping my pumpkins grow larger. The intended audience is one who wishes to grow BIG, and I mean BIG pumpkins. Growing large pumpkins can be done by anyone (with the help of this book). It is also a fun hobby that you can enjoy with your children. There is nothing like putting a 500+ pound orange jack-o-lantern on your front porch on Halloween and letting the neighborhood enjoy the sight of it. No one I have ever met does not smile when they see a big object like a giant pumpkin, it is guaranteed a great conversation piece. This book helps you learn about seed, soil, growing techniques, watering, and contests and even displaying your fruit after it is harvested. The author has spent lots of time fully researching this hobby and has done a great job of presenting the material of this unique endeavor to anyone who might enjoy gardening or growing large curabits. The pictures alone are worth the price of this book! This book is much better than World Class Giant Pumpkins the previous one by the same author. There are three or four other books or articles regarding this subject that are not as extensive as this one. If growing pumpkins is something you might enjoy or you have already tried to grow pumpkins and were not happy with the results this book will prove invaluable.

The World In Between: A Walk for Unknown Lands.......2002-09-17
I am a reader who really knows him personally. Whoever wrote such a review knows little to nothing of what they are talking about let alone write such a review. I have watched this book grow. It shows a way to do things. You walk your own way. It is a worthwhile book to read. This previous review is nothing but slander. Whoeever this WA DC reader is I do not know. He/She does not know him. He knows nobody in WA DC. He/She apparently doesn't know too much. A good book. Worth the read. I recommend it to anyone.
