Get A Sneak Peak Into The Astrological Trends Of 2005.......2004-07-27
How would you like a sneak preview of global astrological trends for 2005?
Spanning diverse topics like entertainment, finance, religion, homeland security, fashion and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Llewellyn's Starview Almanac 2005 provides detailed (but jargon-free!) predictions from the world's top astrologers.
In addition to giving you the scoop on weather trends, global hot spots, the 2005 American presidency and healthcare, this information-packed almanac also provides weekly horoscopes for 2005. You'll be able to track how the stars will affect your work gauge and love gauge, as well as the Signs to avoid and attract. The handy horoscope format functions as a planner, so there's plenty of room for you to jot down transits, appointments, and daily insights.
Some of the fascinating articles in this new offering by Llewellyn include:
Alan Greenspan: Rock Star of Finance by Dorothy J. Kovach
Yikes! Mercury Is Retrograde by Nina Lee Braden
What Will Amuse Us In 2005? by Sally Cragin
Fashion: What The Stars Say We'll Wear In 2005 by Kris Brandt Riske
Essential Liberty by Susan Thompson
My favorite article in this book is The Age Of Pisces: Its Impact On Religion by Madalyn Hillis-Dineen, which follows the transits of Uranus and Pluto throughout the centuries, and how those transits have influenced Christian clergy, laity, and doctrine.
This refreshing book coaxes astrology out of the stellar halls of esoterica and into the realms of pop culture, politcal climates, NASCAR, and economics. Thoroughly entertaining and insightful, I highly recommend Llewellyn's 2005 Starview Almanac.

Book Description
Among the most popular spitz breeds in America, this snow-white Nordic dog possesses a most appealing personality and an unmistakably intelligent air. Whether Toy, Miniature or Standard, the American Eskimo Dog makes an indelible impression on everyone he meets with his solid white straight coat, standing off his athletic, compact frame, his perfect balance and his characteristic Nordic features. To his family, he is friendly and protective, making a reliable watchdog and a willing helpmate.
Illustrated with over 135 photographs in color, this comprehensive introductory guide provides information on the breed's origins in Europe and foundation in the US, and the AKC and UKC breed standards, plus discussions on characteristics of the breed, feeding, grooming, obedience training, preventative health care and more. For first-time owners, the author's chapters on puppy care and housebreaking will prove especially useful. Helpful hints and important information are highlighted to provide easy access to everything the reader needs to know about life with an American Eskimo from puppyhood to the senior years.

A Must Have Book For The American Eskimo Dog Owner.......2003-10-05
This book is very well written and contains very informative information for the American Eskimo Dog Owner. As the owner of a 2 year old Eskie, I found it very insightful and helpful. It is great reading. This is a must have for any Eskie owner.

Terriffic Photos.......2005-08-03
If I wanted to buy a book with the greatest pictures and varities of American Eskimos- this would be that book. Unfortunately, I wanted a book with more writing than pics.
I needed to know about the care, feeding and nurturing of my new pet, and this book did not supply that. However, I will keep the book for the pictures to show people the varities of this breed.
Please Read.......2003-10-15
For anyone that hasn't owned an American Eskimo, this is a good starter book. It's even better for kids! It has a lot of wonderful pictures though the book itself won't stand up to much abuse. It's has some neat information in it, don't overlook this book. I love it. Whomever can glean from this book that an Eskie is a descendent of the Malamute obviously needs to read the book instead of looking at the photos.
Good summary of a special breed.......2003-02-25
This is a good guide to owning American Eskimo dogs [or "Eskies, as they are usually known]. The reviewer who was offended by the title is incorrect. According to the AKC and the UKC, the Malumute is an entirely different breed. The Eskie has its roots in the German Spitz.
In response to: A reader from Alaskan Native.......2003-02-22
The American Eskimo dog is a very different breed than tha Alaskan Malamut. I happen to own one of the former, and they are significantly smaller. The larger sizes of the Eskie (American Eskimo Dog) would barely reach a full size Malamut's knee, and their tail curls up on their backs. This book, while it covers one of my favorite subjects, doesn't cover much information that is helpful for a family pet rather than a show dog.

This beautifully designed and collectable book reproduces the best of hundreds of posters issued over the years by the United Nations, since the organization's inception in 1946.
From its beginning, the UN addressed the world through the medium of posters. Heralding the call to disarmament, the demand for human rights, the plight of refugees, and countless other civic and humanitarian causes, the UN's posters are widely recognized for their bold design, artful composition and skillful rendering.
Including rare specimens from the organization's early daysincluding two posters produced the UN's predecessor organization, the League of Nationsthe book pictures prizewinners from various competitions and those adapted from work by such well-known artists as Norman Rockwell, Pablo Picasso, Hans Erni, Peter Max, and Robert Rauschenberg. Also included are biographies of select artists and a preface by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Book Description
Gardening is now the favorite outdoor leisure activity in America. More and more homeowners now realize the health benefits derived from gardening and the increase in their home's property value.
The trend in gardening books is to regional titles, because they provide credible information on the plants that perform well in specific regions. Gardeners want information they can use successfully in their own gardens.
The popular gardening team of Dan Gill and Dr. Joe White offers the Louisiana Gardener's Guide - Revised Edition. They recommend specific varieties well-suited for Louisiana and provide advice on how to plant, how to grow and how to care for the state's top-performing plants.
Customer Reviews:
Great reference guide.......2007-06-25
When we first moved to Louisiana, this book was invaluable for making sure that we selected the right plants for our garden. I still refer back to it every year when choosing new annuals.
One busy guy.......2006-10-15
I don't know how Dan does it. Between his weekly Times Picayune newspaper column, his weekly gardening segment on WWL-TV Morning Show, a two hour call in radio show every Saturday and constant appearances at seminars, garden shows, I'm surprised Dan could find time to write a book. And a great book it is. If you garden in Louisiana or if you want to garden in Louisiana, you need this book. Hundreds of plants are spotlighted; what conditions they like, where to plant, sun needs and shade wants. Does the plant like wet feet, will it withstand a freeze? With pictures on most every page and comprehensive information on Louisiana plants, this book is an invaluable resource for beginners and reference for professionals.
The BEST book for the money.......2005-06-14
After buying our first home, my husband and I split the duties. Mine, of course, was the garden.
Since in the past everything I have touched has died due to forgetfulness to water, I was determined to have a garden with blooming flowers and shrubs. Since beginning on my own, I recently purchased 3 books through Amazon. After getting them and reading through them the past day or so, this is by far the best of them all.
This book has a picture on almost every page and a great description and legend for the plants, trees, shrubs and flowers it lists. Not every type is in here, but it is the most comprehensive and diverse book I have come across so far. The legend shows sun amounts, what insects are attracted to it (perfect if you don't like bees), which ones are best for cut arrangements and if it has fragrance.
I would recommend buying this book before all others. I have already went back to it many times in the short time I have had it. The other 2 books? I might try to sell them on Amazon to someone else because they were not much help.

Customer Reviews:
the story of two brothers continues...................2003-03-10
In the past 6 months, another chapter to the story of "The Warden and His Brother" has been written by fate. Brian Flakes, the brother to the warden, was killed in a car crash in Dallas. Hopefully, Ms. Captain will write yet another 5 star book on the life of her lost son. Brian Flakes touched the lives of many in his brief life of 40 yrs. I am convinced that Brian Flakes knew that his purpose on earth was almost complete as he set about helping his many brothers in recovery of AA and NA. God bless you Ms. Captain for such insight into the life of substance abuse.
Being a single mom is hard work!.......2000-10-06
This book touched my life in a special way. Although I am not a person of color I have been a single mom for a long time. The struggles the author went through are typical of the struggles many of us go through. Then she had the added complication of being a woman of color and the racism that goes along with that to battle against as well. The constant love for her self first and then her family are amazing. There are many people who will never rise to the challenge that this family did and I congratulate the family as a whole. I am also very impressed with her faith in God and how God is not mad at her, as she puts it. God is gracious to us all and I know as a Christian the battles we must fight. Mrs. Captain has fought her battles well. The contrast between the brothers is remarkable but their dedication to each other and their family is even more remarkable. In this day and age when the family is falling apart this fine lady teaches us in this book how to keep a family together, no matter what comes our way. Thank you, Ms. Captain for your book and for your children. They are a blessing.
Ms. Captain Captivates!.......2000-08-04
Family--good, bad or somewhere in between, we all have or have had one--and this book, which deals in a tender and loving manner with family matters, has something for us all! Myrtle Captain captivates in this true life account of raising three children as a single parent in era when single parenthood was uncommon and required even more tenacity than the present. WARNING-You will cry! You will laugh! You WILL come to love this woman! This book INSPIRES! I found myself saying, "If this family can overcome everything they have, what am I whining about?" This book EMPOWERS! Ms. Captain reminds us that we were meant to soar with eagles--each and everyone of us--and the only thing that can keep us down in the barnyard is--US! I would have loved this book even if I were not a child advocate working with youth in the criminal justice system! I loved this book because it is a touching account of a family who, despite the many struggles and adversities life hurls their way, hurdles over each of them--and continues to love, care and support each other. The world needs more books like this!
LET THE HEALING BEGIN.......2000-07-21
"The Warden and His Brother: From Their Mother's Point of View" opens some wounds-but in the end, healing begins for many human relationships. Example: For single parents there is victory in serving God, for the absent parent-you see what you missed, for the abused-how to grow out of abuse, for the abuser-how if affect the abused, for the siblings-LOVE is everything. I have gotten laughter and release of sorrow about my life in retrospect, as to my own life and being "Born For A Purpose". The Warden, Garland KZ Flakes
The Warden and His Brother.......2000-07-21
This is an outstanding inspirational story of a black mother who survived the criticism of her mother and others in a segregated Texas town and went on to achieve numerous goals. She successfully established and instilled in her three children the desire to love and respect one another and others. She lives out the dream of beating the odds and overcoming numerous obstacles that confronted her and to have a successful and great life. In the 1950s she is able to function sucessfully as a single parent and to provide the economic and spiritual foundation that her children need in order to gain the self esteem needed for survival.
This book depicts the bonding between siblings that is unshakable as they face numerous confrontations in their lives. The author is able to bring the book to life and have you experience the manuscript as though you were there. It is a very refreshing book for those who can relate to the author and at the same time it is very insightful for those who are not black and did not have experiences that are similar to those of the author.
It is a "must" read book!
