Book Description
A comprehensive new guide to the best fly-fishing for trout and landlocked salmon in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Northern New England is known for its many beautiful lakes, rivers, and streamsand for outstanding fly-fishing. From Vermont's Battenkill, to the headwaters of the mighty Connecticut in New Hampshire, to the Kennebec and Penobscot Rivers in Maine, David Klausmeyer has investigated the far reaches of northern New England to recommend the very best fly-fishing for trout and landlocked salmon. With his years of experience as a researcher, writer, and editor for several national fly-fishing magazines, Klausmeyer knows what to look for in a trout stream, where to find the best stretches of water and avoid crowds, and, most importantly, what every angler needs from a good guide. Features of this thoroughly researched, opinionated book include descriptions of the best waters and little-known tributaries worth exploring, and recommendations on local hatches and fly patterns, as well as detailed access directions and listings of local fly shops. Includes local hatch charts and fly patterns. 30 black and white photographs 25 maps Index

Good reference.......2005-08-09
Looking through the Book, I will keep it with me while on road trips and when planning camping trips. I bought the book to see if I could learn anything more about my area central & northern New Hampshire. It only dedicates about 10 pages to Northern NH and everything that is listed on central NH I already knew.
Useful information.......2004-08-13
Actually, I would normally rate this book a 4 but I thought the previous rating showing a 2 was too low. I found the book to be very helpful. Not being familar with Maine, VT, or NH, I was able to quicky determine not just where to fish but where not to fish. The book is targeted more toward fly fishermen (I am one of those) and it lists what hatches are on the stream. A familar fly fisherman knows roughly what month such hatches are around. I would highly recommend this book over a Maine Gazette map which will not give you the detailed directions to some popular fishing spots.
Not to much info here..........2002-04-20
A nice collection of maps and general info, however, this title doesn't supply much more information than the NH Gazetteer. Can't speak as specifically to the VT and ME sections. Little info on when to fish, just general descriptions of how to get there and what may or may not be stocked. Really just a surface survey.

Customer Reviews:
A MUST HAVE.......2005-01-25
This book is well written! Dr. Kidd gives great stories from his own experience. I have used a few of his remedies for my cats and they worked. I always consult my vet before using a remedy though. I like to make sure my cat's problem isn't so serious it's life threatening. As long as you are careful about that, then this book is a MUST HAVE. I only wish he went into more detail on some things and had more "concoctions". Also wish he would come out w/ a book on Aromatherapy for pets or have included it in this book.
Great down to earth book about cat care.......2002-02-28
I am very impressed with this book (and the one about Dog care too). I have lots of herb books but this is the first one I've bought about pet care. It's well written, easy to understand, and full of great information. Of course it's not extremely in depth, but gives a great start for anyone just beginning to learn about holistic health for pets. I wish this guy could be our vet!!!
Dr Kidd's Guide to Herbal Cat Care.......2000-11-01
I think herbal care is a wonderful way to help heal our furry loved ones. I use herbs to treat some of my problems, why wouldn't I want to do the same for my cats! That is why I feel this is a wondeful book! This book lists all the types of herbs you can use on your cats. I also appreciate how easy the author layed out the different remedies for different conditions. Dr. Kidd also gives us an easy way to figure out doses. I feel good knowing I can turn to this book for help when my cats have any problems.

A Must Have for Transistor Radio Collectors.......2000-04-21
The rather long title says it all. It's a nice collection of transistor radios, their descriptions, price estimates, and hundreds of (mostly black and white) photos. Lots of good history here, along with tips for collectors. Not as fancy as some of the others, but a classic, and another must-have.
Great Starter book in a fun field!.......1999-06-30
Excellent book with good coverage of every set I could find. Easy to follow and I particularly enjoyed the history section about the beginning of the transistor age. Very nice book!!
Book Description
Few perennials have undergone as dramatic a "makeover" as heucheras (coral bells) and their hybrids with tiarellas (foamflowers), the heucherellas (foamy bells). Drawn mainly from diminutive forest-dwelling species with small white flowers and unremarkable foliage, these woodlanders and crevice dwellers are now among the most popular plants in nurseries around the world. Dan Heims and Grahame Ware not only provide background on the wild species of Heuchera, they also tell how these plants were developed into the garden stars they are today, with an appreciative nod to the breeders who revolutionized the plants' characteristics. The book's main feature is extensive listings of the choice selections and hybrids available commercially; practical chapters on garden care, propagation, and design uses round out this fascinating account. Gardeners looking for the drab and colorless need not trouble themselves with this book — the first ever on these striking plants.
Customer Reviews:
almost.......2007-05-14
Only downside to this book is that most do not specify location i.e. sun / shade. And their is no zone reference.
The Perfect Place to Start to Learn about The Perfect Ornamental.......2006-08-06
As I grow in my admiration for the hybridizers of heuchera, I find myself wanting to know much more. This book if full of pictures and good background information. It may not have all the answers but it is the fist place to start this journey. You will be amazed at this little supper star, called Heuchera. Hostas were the number one perennial, however thanks to Terra Nova, hostas must give Heucheras a wide girth. Heuchera is todays number one perennial, and by about five months.
Gorgeous photos and interesting, useful text.......2006-02-05
I am a professional landscape designer, and I have become a huge fan of Heucheras and Heucherellas. Their incredible variety of foliage colors makes them a wonderful plant to use in many situations. They are simple to maintain, easy to grow, and come in foliage colors from bright golden chartreuse with magenta midribs, lush greens with gorgeous natural-looking pink flowers, to deep velvety purples and rich chocolate ruffles.
This is a truly wonderful resource for fans of these plants. The first part of the book has over 50 pages filled with multiple color photos on each page, of every kind of Heuchera or Heucherella you might want to know about. This is great for getting a glimpse of some of the newer varieties that haven't reached our local nurseries yet, and for comparing the subtle and not so subtle variations in their foliage, flower, and habit. I haven't found any Heucheras that are available to me that are not covered in this book, and he covers a lot that I haven't seen yet.
The text which comes after the truly awe-inspiring array of photos in the beginning is helpful and interesting. He gives a lot of background information that the average home gardener might skip over (history, propagation, how they are named and botanically classed), but that I personally found fascinating.
He also gets right to the meat of the matter in his discussions of pest problems and how to solve them, how to combine some of the outrageous foliage colors found in Heucheras and Heucherellas with other garden plants, and how to design with them and use them successfully in the garden.
There is also a reference portion where he discusses each plant and variety, its parentage and what that tells us about what they like in the garden, and describes many varieties in great and useful detail.
I have been waiting for a book on Heucheras for a really long time, and I am so glad that this one was so well worth the wait.
Great Mugshot/Technical Book.......2005-09-12
This book is an ideal reference for gardening professionals or those home gardeners who have fallen in love with the broad range of heucheras and heucherellas that have become available. It would be an ideal addition to a community library as well. The many pages of color photos of the different cultivars are like having a catalog for plant shopping. The cultivation instructions are good and the enthusiasm of the author for his subject shines through.

Book Description
This colorful picture book will fascinate children as they learn the significance of right and wrong.
Customer Reviews:
Compare this kingdom to our country today!.......2007-04-30
One of my favorite books for children - this book is an outstanding story for children about what happens when absolute truth is replaced by relativism...every person becomes their own standard of right and wrong and the entire kingdom gets turned upside down! When the good king goes off to war and leaves his son in charge, the people revolt against law and order throwing off all external restraint and demonstrating that they have no internal restraint or self-control. As chaos ensnares the kingdom, order is only established with the return of the king who reminds his subjects of the laws of the land and how these rules are in place for the good of all. I was reminded not only of the Old Testament kings who turned away from the Lord and the people did as they pleased, but also of our great nation today and how we continue to throw off the constraints of morality resulting in a lawless and chaotic society. Until our nation repents and returns to the authority of God's Word, we will live in this topsy-turvy kingdom as well! Great book for younger elementary-aged students - outstanding story and incredible illustrations.
A Delightfully Simple Explanation of God's Values.......2000-04-01
I found this book to be a terrific conversation starter with my five year old son. The story is simple... A king, whom everyone loves, goes on sabaticle and leaves his son in charge. The people, no longer able to see the king, start to doubt if there really ever was a king. Then they start to question what is "good" and what is "bad." Much silliness follows, but a clear parallel to sin is drawn. When the son tells the people they are behaving badly, they become a mob and attack him. Dad (the king) comes home just in time to save his son, and the people realized that they had been wrong.
A sweet story for kids, Topsy Turvy Kingdom is a great introduction to religious allegory and also works well if you're looking for a resource that will help teach your kids that everyone comes under authority.
I hope your family enjoys its thought provoking discussions as much as ours did! God speed!
Customer Reviews:
Save your $$.......2006-07-08
This book is no comparison to Linda Kreger Silverman's book as it tells you nothing, but how talented the author's children are. Trust me, save your $$$.
The book Linda Silverman wanted to write.......2005-11-19
If your child has horrible handwriting, hates to write, appears disorganized, has a messy room (but still can find things when he needs to), loves LEGO's, or loses track of time, this is the book for you.
Alexandra Golon has been influenced by the work of Silverman, and has developed specific techniques in dealing with her own VSL children. She also includes ideas that other parents of VSL's have shared. One suggestion is that, since VSL's think in pictures, not words, post a picture of a chore (such as feeding the dog) because the child will remember the chore better with the picture than with words.
Based on over 20 years of research, Silverman believes that appoximately 60% of all students (not just gifted) have strong VSL tendencies. Many dyslexic children and children in special education classes are VSL's. VSL's often have had numerous ear infections during early childhood.
Golon reognizes the problems her children experience because of their learning style differences and wants to help other parents and teachers of children with similar problems. Since her experience is with her own children, she refers to them in this book. She works closely with Silverman and is very knowledgeable about the theory behind her techniques. Silverman originally intended to write UpsideDown Brilliance as a book listing VSL techniques (rather that the research and theory behind it), so this is the book she says she wanted to write.
This is a must read for all teachers and for parents of children with school problems. It is easy to read, with illustrations that visually describe the situation described.
I constantly recommend it to parents and teachers and am donating copies of it to several libraries so that more people can be helped by the VSL concept and some specific ways to help VSL learners.
One of the best resources for parents of VSLs!!!.......2005-11-03
This book is an incredible resource. Some of the things the previous reviewer pointed out as negatives, I find to be quite positive. Yes, Allie Golon does tell stories about her kids, she does tell stories about other VSLs, and she does provide her own personal insight - exactly what I was looking for!! As a parent who has done countless hours of research (and could probably research for the rest of my life) it is so refreshing to find a book that tells things from the perspective of someone "who's been there". As a mom, I appreciate the personality of this book. I've read about the studies and the science and the research and the experts. This book does not shy away from the research, but it also provides real-life tools from a real-life expert! This book is a wonderful companion to Dr. Silverman's book, Upside-Down Brilliance. I was also thrilled to discover Allie Golon's new book, If You Could See the Way I Think. I got it for my daughter and it is so wonderful for her to see that she is understood. It is directed to kids and provides them with tools for life - everything from spelling helps to organizational skills to self-advocacy. Check out Dr. Silverman's website, visualspatial.org and purchase all 3 books! Your eyes will be opened and you'll be thankful!!
Better books on this topic available..........2005-08-27
There are other books on the market that are much more valuable than this one. Her book is also biased toward the extremely gifted VS learners (especially hers)...we got it... your kids are extremely gifted VS learners.
Much more substantial books on this topic are: "Right Brained Children in a Left Brained World" by Jeffrey Freed and Laurie Parsons and "Upside-Down Brilliance" by Dr. Linda Silverman. The authors of these books are the experts in the field. This author basically copied basic ideas from these books and then wrote a lot of stories about her kids, provided stories about other VS learners and provided her personal insight into it all. The only new information from this book that you might not find in as much detail in the others are some of her own practical suggestions of how to help your child cope w/some of their areas of weakness and how to deal w/these areas as a family.
If you must buy this book, BUY IT USED & SAVE YOUR $
The Homework Doc loves this book!.......2005-08-20
If you have a child that is bright yet does not perform well, this book may shed some light as to why. Many children struggle in an auditory/sequential learning environment. The tools offered in this book will empower them to get their needs met in any classroom. The companion book, "If You Could See the Way I Think," is another tool for the children who struggle in traditional classrooms. I love this book and will continue to share it with my students.

He's one wacky guy! He sees things a little differently from everyone else-backwards!
Book Description
Presenting the largest, most incredible collection of topsy-turvy optical illusions ever created, with a stunning mix of classics and previously unpublished designs! Topsy-turvys all contain two different images in one picture—you just have to look carefully to see them both. “Vanishing Rabbit,” for example, is pure magic: one moment the bunny’s in the magician’s hat, and the next, it’s gone, leaving just the conjurer. Are those ladies in the “Bearded Girls” illusion? Turn the page upside down and check again—now they’ve turned into bearded men. “Courtship and Matrimony,” a nineteenth-century satirical card, gives a before and after view of marriage. The variety of art styles ranges from cartoon to classical, and every illustration has a fun surprise.
Customer Reviews:
What FUN! .......2007-05-12
I bought this book for our 7 year old twins before we went on vacation. We had so much fun sharing this book. It is extremely clever. All of the illusions were fantastic. We have now become a family always lookng for illusions in the everyday things we see. If you are looking for a gift for a child of any age, they will enjoy wandering through the pages of this adventure in illusions.

Anyone who has ever played the telephone game knows what nonsense can emerge from a series of half-heard conversations. But one day, Toni's life is turned topsy-turvy through an inadvertent round of telephone! Upon deciding to throw a potluck party, Toni calls all her friends to tell them what to bring. Unfortunately, none of them can quite hear her requests: Ruth lives near the airport, Kirk baby-sits noisy babies, and Fiona lives next to the fire station. So instead of bringing bread and cheese, Ruth brings a bride and a niece. In place of salad and juice, Fiona comes with a sailor and a moose. "Oh no!" Toni cries, when Kirk shows up. "Hats and balloons, not cats and baboons!" Now, not only does she have no food, this hapless hostess has lots more guests than she counted on.
Laura Ljungkvist's hilarious tale, with striking, stylized illustrations made with layered drafting paper, fine markers, and gouache paint, will tickle the funny bones of readers of all ages. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description

In fact, everyone's brought something different, but there isn't a speck of food in sight. And worse, everyone is extremely hungry. Maybe Toni's instructions weren't quite clear enough. . . .
Children will love running their finger along the continuous line illustrations in this silly spin on the favorite parlor game Telephone. Perfect for reading aloud, Toni's Topsy-Turvy Telephone Day is a party no one will want to miss!
Customer Reviews:
Let's Play Telephone............2001-06-18
Toni has decided to have a potluck party and calls six of her good friends on the phone, to tell them what to bring. Unfortunately, they all live or work in noisy environments and can't quite hear her instructions clearly. Ruth lives near the airport and instead of punch and lemonade brings a pooch and a maid. Vera, the dogwalker can't make out steak for kabob and brings a snake and a snob instead. Fiona was supposed to supply the salad and juice, but she lives by the fire station and brought a sailor and a moose. And so on... Now Toni has even more guests than she knows what to do with, and no food for her party. Her quick thinking and noisy friends solve the problem by calling and ordering pizza, but even the pizza man can't quite hear the order correctly..... Laura Ljungkvist has written a delightful and inventive story that anyone who has ever played the game of telephone will easily identify with. Her humorous text is only outdone by her amazingly creative and innovative illustrations, full of bold colors, geometric shapes and a telephone line that literally connects the entire assemblage from the beginning of the story to the end. Perfect for youngsters 4-8, Toni's Topsy Turvy Telephone Day is a winner the entire family will enjoy and is sure to have everyone giggling and laughing every time it's read.
herring and aquavit.......2001-05-21
Laura Ljungkvist's book is a winner with both my daughter and my cat. It is a very clever and engaging story (did she think this up on her own??) but also beautifully illustrated. I like the color development from start to finish. It is a very inventive and beautiful book. Its also very funny.
Great read.......2001-04-27
Our daughter (5 years) cannot get enough of this book. She loves for us to read it out loud, and to trace the illustrations with her finger.
The book is about Toni's potluck dinner party. She calls and asks her friends to bring things to her party, but every request is misunderstood and the story grows from there.
The wonderful illustrations consist of a single line. The colors are spectacular.
Two Great Books in One.......2001-04-20
This is book which deserves to be seen AND heard. Everyone remembers the classic game of "telephone," when a simple message whispered from one child to another gets garbled. Such is the inspiration for Laura Ljungkvist. Give a second look to her illustrations. Each twisted telephone cord curves about, making a variety of shapes. And the never-ending line connects every illustration from one page to another. This is a fascinating, fun book for ages 4-8.

Book Description
Mr. and Mrs. Topsy-Turvy, and their children Fern and Vern, are the most fun babysitters in the world. Lucy certainly isn't complaining when her mother asks the Topsy-Turvies to watch her--in no time at all she's drawing on the floor and watching TV standing on her head just like the rest of the family. This is a laugh-out-loud delight chock-full of candy-colored artwork and old fashioned silliness.
"Told with sophisticated, genuine humor, a superb mix of good intentions and sheer outrageousness." --Kirkus Reviews
Customer Reviews:
Perfect preschool humor!.......2007-07-07
Each time we read this book we see something new that's "topsy turvy." This book is at the perfect level of humor for 3-5 year olds.
Silly and entertaining.......1998-05-01
This is my five-year-old daughter's favorite book. She has it memorized! It turns the conventional world on its ear and stars a family that combs its hair with a fork and passes pudding by throwing it. The pictures are hilarious and the words delightful. Our favorite line: "Do I HAVE to eat all my cake?"
