The individual maps are very nice. There is no list of bike rental places with their phone #s. No map of Florida to show where the trails are. Descriptions of trails are OK. Shark Valley in the Everglades was not mentioned in the "non-rail-trail" section.

Rails-to-trail are trails created from abdondoned railroad beds. They are valued for a number of activities because of their shallow grades that were required by trains. The Rails-to-Trail Conservancy is the US national organization promoting the creation of Rails-to-Trails, and Rails-to-Trails Florida is their official guidebook.

The book describes 17 "top" rails-trails, 6 "more" rail-trails (ones so new that more detail could not be included) and 11 state park trails across the state, each in its own section. There is also a section on the Florida trail system. The state park trails are mostly unpaved trails for mountain bikers and equestrians, and are not rail bed conversions. The author warns that they may be excluded in future printings as more rail-trails are finished.

The author is obviously a cyclist, but the information in the book applied to runners, walkers, equestrians, skaters and those in wheelchairs.

There are maps of the state in the front, and each trail is described on two or more pages, with a local map, usually at least one photo, icons indicating activites on and along the trail, a summary description, and a long description giving a mile-by-mile account of the trail and a history of the railroad that preceded it.

The state maps don't include the "more" trails, and could use more detail, such as county boundaries and major roads.

Although the author suggests getting more detailed maps, there is no reason that more detail couldn't be included in the trail maps, such as more roads, particularly those leading to intermediate stations. I'd like to drive to one of the intermediate stations along the West Orange Trail, for example. There are some other detail problems. If you look for SR 419 while on SR 417, you'll never find it as the highway signs only refer to it as 434, but the book doesn't tell you that. The author also implies that the beginning of the Cady Way Trail begins in the parking lot of Fashion Square mall when it is, in fact, across a street.

New trails are being opened, and new rights-of-way procured for trails, in Florida almost daily, it seems. To remain useful, this book will have to be updated almost annually. I hope it keeps up-to-date.

A similar resource are the three volumes of Florida Rail-Trail Bicycling by Joan Lundquist Scalpone, describing 46, 44, and 43 rides, respectively. The three books cover municipal trails and bike routes, and park trails as well as rail-trails, but the three books will cost more than Rails-to-Trails Florida and only cover about 15 of the Rail-Trails.

Handy Guide to Trails.......2001-07-18

This book is a thin paperback that is perfect to carry along on a trip. It's a good guide to the Rails-to-Trails system in Florida, although the descriptions of the trails are not as detailed as in some other books. There are easy to use icons listing what facilities are available at each site, and overall descriptions of the trails with some details about points of interest.

SARKS best book..buy it!.......2003-04-13

Spend any time in Europe or Latin countries and you soon discover the value of naps and sleeping as a requirement for a whole and healthy life. Maybe that is why this is my favorite SARK book. I own all her books. I even think this is a book that if you love yourself and your best friend, you will buy copies of it.

She does an excellent job of explaining why naps are important and how naps heal the mind, body and spirit. I personally believe that a nap or rest period should be a must in any home and business. That closing up the store between 2-4 every afternoon and taking a nap would reduce a lot of problems American society has.

Do not let her wonderful watercolour graphics fool you into thinking this is just a fun book. Because the words she shares are so valuable. She shows that the countries who have people who nap, are the most productive. People who nap are sick less which means less job absentees

And she shows as does research that sleep is when we are dreaming and when we get some of the best ideas as well as when we reenergize our whole being. I like the section on pages 51-57 on where to nap etc is good. My favorite place is in a Guatemalan hammock we have which cradles me like a baby and allows me to slightly sway as I nap. I like it so much I recommend it for sleeping at night when restless.

great de-stress book.......2003-03-10

Do you know someone is that is overstressed? Want to get them a book to help?

I researched about 20 different stress books from my local library, and I found this one to be the best. Most books are too preachy for de-stress books. They talk about stress and it just stresses you out reading them!

But this book is a pure pleasure to read. It's fun, and it makes you feel good about taking naps. And this is a fun book to share with others. It makes for a nice surprise gift to someone who is going through alot of troubles in their life.

I really enjoyed this book ... I agree with some of the other reviewers in that it is a little repetitive of earlier books. This did not stop me from enjoying it! I realize that SARK thought that naps were so important that they deserved their own book. I've been trying to convince my office to have "siesta" time daily, but no luck so far. Everytime I pick up one of SARK's books I become re-inspired. Great, although short, little book. Grab the book and settle down for a nap!

Good reference on typography even though examples are weak.......2000-01-28

This book has a very good overview of typography for a beginner, the development and history of various typefaces, and the anatomy of the characters. The CD contains a few fonts that help make the price of the book a bit better. The actual examples of typefaces in use were terribly amateurish, however, and didn't serve to illustrate the author's point of view very well. I would recommend this book as a reference, but not a guide for using type in practice.

A Good Introduction.......1998-02-19

This book is a good introduction to digital fonts, but if you already have other books on typography you can pass on this one. One of the main reasons that I bought this book was because of the claim that it included "A Large Collection" of fonts on the included CD-ROM. I found only three Windows fonts that were of any use to me. The rest of the "fonts" are actually bitmaps pictures of the typefaces. The other software programs are demo versions, most of them old, and newer versions can be obtained on the websites of Adobe, Pyrus and other vendors. Since I don't own an Apple computer I can't comment on the fonts or demo versions of those programs.
