Customer Reviews:
a sufficient guide for a great trip!.......2006-07-23
My boyfriend and I just returned from cycling a loop around the Netherlands, starting and ending in Amsterdam, completing about 1300 km. This guide was almost perfect. Widing's descriptions are very detailed, and she recommends great sight-seeing. We loved the cue-sheets - sometimes the roads were hard to figure out, so knowing the exact numbers of kilometers was very helpful, and handy for ripping out of the book to put in our handlebar bags. Widing also does a great job of recommending places to eat and stay for a variety of budgets. There were a couple of gaps between routes if you want to make a loop; Holland's designated bike routes easily bridge those gaps. I recommend getting an ANWB map of those routes - this will also help you to visually plan out your route. We had a lot of trouble with the Drenthe part of the book; it seemed out of date and/or confusing. I would also recommend more detailed maps of each region, because the maps for each of Widing's routes are not detailed enough. Overall, this book was very helpful and helped us to have a low-stress, interesting, and fun cycling vacation.

Expert guidance in creating a high-performance personal statement--essential for admittance to law school
Nationally known consultant Paul Bodine has helped thousands gain admission to elite professional schools. In Great Personal Statements for Law School, he helps you ace your personal statement, the most critical part of any law school application.
Customer Reviews:
Very useful and informative book on applying!.......2006-12-12
Paul's book is really helpful. If you aren't sure what personal experience to write about in your personal statment, Paul discusses how to choose what to write about, which is really useful. He also tells you how to write a good outline so that when you actually have to write the essay, it's not so hard.
The advice on letter of recommendations is also very useful. Paul tells you how to choose the right recommenders and how to coach them so that your recommendations will really be an asset to your application.
There are also many sample essays which I found very beneficial. For this alone, the book is worth it.
I really recommend this book to anyone who's even thinking of applying to law school!
Great help to students!.......2006-12-09
A helpful book! This book's real value are the excellent sections on
starting the writing process and understanding the basic types of questions that law schools ask. There are also separate chapters on secondary essays, like diversity and optional essays and wait list letters and a separate chapter just on recommendation letters.
A genuinely terrible book.......2006-11-10
Avoid this one at all costs. These personal statements are laughably bad, almost without exception. Treating them as models for your own law school personal statement isn't wise; these things read more like poor college admissions essays written by high school students. The writing is leaden and awkward, the subjects cliched, and the editing sloppy. Also, it's worth noting that most of the applicants whose essays are featured in the book gained admission only to mediocre law schools. A better choice is "Law School Essays that Made a Difference," which features much stronger personal statements written by borderline applicants to top schools (Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Stanford, Chicago, etc.). The writers managed to gain entry to these sorts of schools, sometimes despite so-so numbers, because of their exceptional personal statements. The "Anna Ivey Guide" and Richard Montauk's "How To Get Into The Top Law Schools" also have good info about the personal statement. Or avoid the law school advice industry altogether and get a book like "The Art Of The Personal Essay," an excellent anthology edited by Phillip Lopate; "The Best American Nonrequired Reading" series, edited by Dave Eggers; Natalie Goldberg's "Writing Down the Bones"; and Anne Lamott's "Bird by Bird."

Customer Reviews:
Not for the Indoor Pet.......2001-07-22
I loved this book very much and rate it highly, but in my mind, the only drawback to this book is the fact that it mainly focussed on breeding, showing, and outdoor rabbits. Which is all perfectly fine if you plan on doing those things with your pet (or are intrested in that aspect of rabbits). But I (as the owner of a spoiled "urban rabbit") do not necessarily enjoy that part of the book very much. Sandy Crook presents her information in a wonderful and pleasing manner and has loads of CUTE bunny photographs. There is also useful information on just about every aspect of rabbits. A must for new owners!
Really wonderful book!.......2000-11-21
This has to be the BEST rabbit book out there! It's chock full or information sure to please and delight both the pet owner and the rabbit breeder (and those who are somewhere in between!).
Mrs Crook is known as "Mother of the Lops" - and she proves that she is rightly named so in this wonderful book about rabbits.
Although the title is "Lop Rabbits As Pets" the information in here is applicable to any breed of rabbit, and if you only ever buy one rabbit book - this is the one!
Be sure to check out Petbunny.com for all your rabbit needs!
Lop Rabbits.......2000-10-21
We own a lop rabbit named Benjamin, and we bought this book. It has quite a bit of good information on rabbits as pets, but the strongest aspects of this book are the collection of photographs of all kinds of lop bunnies and the listing at the end of all the breeds of lop rabbits.
Great guide to keeping your little Snookums healthy & happy.......2000-08-01
I had a pet lop rabbit who, sadly, recently joined the ranks of the bunny hereafter. I found this book after her passing, and discovered that even though I took care of her to the best of my abilities, there was still a lot I had to learn.
Sandy Crook's guide book covers just about all aspects of raising lops, including proper maintenance and grooming. This was the data I needed to know the most. What feed to use & how much, what tools to use for grooming and trimming the claws, the proper temperature & dimensions of the hutch, and so much more. There's also a few comprehensive and insightful chapters on breeding and raising lops for show competition. I'll likely never venture into the art of lop breeding myself, but for those that are, the information in this book is invaluable.
There's also spades of photos of just about every breed, size, & color lop imaginable. And they're all so danged CUTE!
'Late!
An interesting and helpful book with wonderful pictures.......1999-10-01
This book is not only a great help for any lop rabbit friend, but a very-well written book with wonderful pictures. A very warm and friendly book. I enjoy reading it over and over again!

Hopalong Cassidy Collectibles
ASIN: 088740765X |
Book Description
Roy Rogers may have been Republic's "King of the Cowboys," but he was lesser nobility when it came to licensed merchandise. The "King of the Cowboy Merchandisers" was Hopalong Cassidy. In the three and one-half year period beginning in late 1949 and ending after the 1952 Christmas season Hoppy rode so far ahead of the pack that his competition had to eat his dust. By early 1950s over a hundred manufacturers were producing Hopalong Cassidy licensed products. No matter where one turned, there was Hoppy. It was a Hopalong Cassidy era. Now Hoppy has found renewed interest among collectors. The support is multi-layered. Prices across the board are at record levels. Common pieces have doubled or tripled in value over the past five years. Scarcer pieces have risen ten times or more. This comprehensive new book by one America's foremost authorities on antiques in general, and Hoppy in particular, will introduce you to the various collecting categories within the wonderful world of Hoppy collectibles and allow you to cast your cares aside while leisurely strolling down nostalgia lane. Packed with useful information, it also has beautiful color photographs of most of the merchandise bearing the Hopalong Cassidy name. If you are old enough to have grown up with Hoppy, you will think "I owned one of those" or "I remember one of those." If you are not, you will be moved to say - "Wow! That's neat. I won't mind owning one."

Happy Trails-riding down memory lane.......2000-08-22
Author Harry Rinker does a great job in bringing back the images of a forgotten hero, Hopalong Cassidy as portrayed by actor William Boyd. His book recaptures, vividly, the massive Hoppy merchandise of the 1950's when Boyd-a marketing genius- was a superstar to children the world over, including this Australian who, as a six year old during Boyd's Australian tour of 1954, was absolutely devastated that Hoppy didn't come west to WA. We got the Queen instead! This book, complete with lavish colour plates of the thousands of Hoppy items is not just a book for collectors of Cassidy memorabilia.Rinker's early chapters include the effect of Hoppy on him as a child, the evolution of Cassidy in novels films and television, the history of Boyd's visionary marketing skills and an interview with his widow, Grace, who is still alive some 28 years after her husband's death. The durability of the film and TV Hoppy (vastly different from novelist Clarence E Mulford's original character) lasted for 20 years thanks to Boyd fusing his own persona with that of the character. Boyd commenced in the Cassidy role in 1935, as a middle aged actor of 40( making 66 films as Cassidy over the next 13 years) and retired in 1954 as a TV and radio hero, internationally renowned. The transformation of Boyd into a hero of children is well captured by Rinker- albeit briefly- although a more detailed biography of William Boyd is long overdue. Boyd's morals, responsiblity, concern and many acts of kindness towards his youthful supporters, as Hoppy, was an example of the very best America had to offer-and America's best is very good indeed. That is why people who grew up in the middle of the 20th century will always recall with affection the black-garbed knight gallant of their childhood - Bill Boyd as Hopalong Cassidy.

The definitive price guide for dedicated Hopalong Cassidy memorabilia collectors.......2006-02-07
Featuring condition scale, current values, and full color photography of almost every item featured, Joe Caro's Hopalong Cassidy Collectibles is the definitive price guide for dedicated Hopalong Cassidy memorabilia collectors. The quality photography of hundreds of items, ranging from books to clothing, food ads, magazine articles, games, school items, toys and much more make Joe Caro's Hopalong Cassidy Collectibles ideal for Hopalong Cassiday fans who don't have hundreds or thousands of dollars to spend on these vintage treasures, but are interested in browsing through the these many minute artifacts of American popular culture. Most items have only a brief description, but some have slightly more involved commentary.
Comprehensive & well-illustrated guide for Hoppy collectors.......1998-07-30
This is the book. Whether you are a serious Hoppy collector, a novice beginner, or simply a fan of one of the greatest western character heroes ever, this book is a must. Extremely well written and organized it is a trip down memory lane. William Boyd, who played Hoppy, was one of the first cowboy stars who was also a marketing genius. This book shows why. This beautifully illustrated price guide encompasses the myriad of Hoppy collectibles that swept not only the U.S. but the world in the 1950s. Every kid wanted to be like Hoppy and as this price guide shows a trip to the store could fulfill that fantasy. You do not have to be a collector to enjoy this book. It will rekindle memories of the things you had as a child and might still have in your attic. To the collector this is an invaluable tool to assist you in evaluating what you have and what to search for. Well done Joe!
Book is excellent resource for beginning collectors........1998-07-21
Like many fans of Hopalong Cassidy I had toys and other items connected with the TV show collecting dust in my attic. I didn't realize how many Hoppy souveneirs I could collect. This book gave me price ranges but it also brought back some great memories with its detailed pictures and descriptions. Clearly this author knows his subject. I can't wait to increase my collection.
A superb labor of love for the Hoppy collector!.......1998-07-18
I am happy to state that I have added Joe Caro's "Hopalong Cassidy Collectibles" to my library. It is worth every penny! As a writer, I can fully appreciate the hard work that went into this study - a must for every serious collector of Hoppy material as well as the novice who wants to know originals, reproductions and items that existed only in someone's "mind". A wonderful and colorful display gauranteed to bring out even the most "shy kid" back to when America was a gentler nation and everyone looked up to Hoppy - youngsters and adults and how we all wanted a Hoppy collectibles - whether it was a flashlight or a holster set! The reading is easy, the color photos dazzling and the market values makes the cost of this book minuscule compared to knowing what the curent values of these wonderful collectibles bring today! Joe Caro is to be congratulated for his exhaustive effort to make us smile again as we get re-acquainted with our he! ro - Hoppy! There is one drawback: Careful, pardners, it'll turn you into a kid again! Job well done!
A must have book for Hopalong Cassidy Collectors.......1998-07-11
I have Joe Caro's first Hopalong Cassidy Collectibles book, plus his little known updated book.Joe's new Hopalong Cassidy Collectibles book has all the contents of the first two plus more. The merchandise Value guide on each collectible(original, reproduction and some fantasy items) gives the advanced and novice collector a price spread that's consistent with the Hoppy collecting market. With the collectibles being pictured in color, it gives the serious collector detail and brings out visual differences, in the many variations, that are being discovered by collectors, everyday. This book covers every catagory of Hopalong Cassidy collectibles so thoroughly and with such enthusiasm, by the author, that after an hour or so, of absorbing every page, imagining I was a kid again I found myself wanting to go out and start collecting Hoppy, as soon as I put the book down.

Hands-on instructions for sowing seeds from more than 100 common vegetables, annuals, perennials, herbs, and wildflowers.
Customer Reviews:
Very informative and easy to use.......2006-11-03
I purchased two books at the same time. This one is excellant for a beginner in gardening as well as an old timer. Easy to use and understand.
my review.......2005-02-12
I liked the fact that this book not only contained information on saving & sowing seeds for EACH type of flower of vegetable, but also contained info about starting seeds in general. It contains VERY, VERY, VERY useful info. I thought I was an advanced gardener, but I learned some things from this book.
Just what I needed.......2003-01-06
I bought this after seeing it as one of the few books offered by Vesseys Seeds (vesseys.com). (It was listed at[money] - lucky for me I often comparison shop.) Many propagation books contain information on seed starting, but because this one concentrates on seed propagation, it has more room to expand on the topic and gives more than books that have to save space to discuss other techniques like cuttings, dividing, layering etc. It discusses seed saving plant by plant, and contained an entry for nearly every plant I looked up.
A book for saving seeds from your garden........2000-06-07
Judging by the table of contents, this book appears to cover all the basics for seed saving from your garden for flowers, vegetables and herbs. It also has over 300 photos of flowers, vegetables and herbs. This will help in identifying plants in your garden. The book comes in both paperback and hardcover and is reasonably priced. The author appears to be well-educated on gardening matters. My only negative is I had wished a more complex review access to information about the book.

Book Description
Dana Lamb and his wife had a great idea: build a sailing canoe and voyage south along the Pacific Coast from Southern California to Panama. Warm water, gentle surf, benign beaches...a suitable way to spend the summer.
This was in the 1930s, and one pictures them pounding nails into plywood and 2x4s. At last they are off on a junket that almost ends in disaster. What saved them was their intelligence, a "can do" sense of the possible and their cheerful courage.
"One of the great adventure stories...an improbable undertaking with people as believable and genuine as the couple next door." (B-O-T Editorial Review Board)
Customer Reviews:
Great Adventure, I Hope Its True.......2005-01-11
I've been trying to find more about Dana and Ginger Lamb. I would like to know more of their experience and backgrounds before attempting this expedition as young recent college graduates in 1933.
The adventures they experience as they canoe the coast of Mexico, Baja, and Central America from San Diego to Panama are truly absorbing. For three years, they manage to survive malaria, apparent snake bite, insects, tiger and wild boar attack, getting lost in caves, storms at sea in their canoe, attack by primitive tribes, etc.. All this as they "live off the land" without much more than a gun, tent, minimal medical supplies, very little money, and their wits.
For two adventurers that should have a great deal of wilderness survival knowledge and experience, they rather stupidly, get themselves into many dangerous situations that beg the question "why would they do that?" I have to say I believe many of their adventures are exaggerated. I am also curious about the historical and archeological significance of the ancient cities and pyramids they discover in the "Forbidden Land".
All this said, if only half true, their story is incredibly interesting, more so because the wilderness and primitive cultures they experience occur in relatively recent times,1932-1935, and in areas of Mexico and Central America that today are main stream tourist destinations.
Adventure/Survival Tale is a Classic.......2004-08-01
I love true to life adventure/survival tales. This book, Enchanted Vagabonds, is a classic in every sense: it is novel, well written and inspiring. A young couple dreams an adventure, takes the adventure and realizes that you do not take a trip, it takes you.
If you love true life survival/adventure stories you will love this well told tale about sailing/paddling a 16 foot craft down the Pacific side of the Americas in the 1930's.
Enchanted Vagabonds.......2000-10-30
Dana & Ginger are emeritus of the Los Angeles Adverturers Club. You'll be burning the midnight oil without being aware of time itself. Any Tristan Jones fans will love a back seat in this boat. Also, be sure to read the Lambs' companion book, "Search for the Lost City." ENJOY THE TRIP!

Book Description
A Vagabond in Mexico, by S. Guzman-C., is an autobiographical novel concerning a man's travels to Mexico in search of a new life. As his search progresses he becomes more a participant than a spectator through his interactions in the Mexican culture. With his finances dwindling, he is drawn deeper into the oppressed world of the underpaid worker. As his novel develops, we see that his journey is both outward and inward.
Customer Reviews:
man finds his path.......2004-06-01
The book that i chos for my 4th quater book report on a fiction book is called, A Vagabond in Mexico, and was written by S. Guzman-C. The book starts off as the main character who is also the author of the book, is arriving in mexico on bus. At first he goes there so he can find a decent job, and really get a good look on how citizens there live. Along his journey he takes up a couple of jobs each different from the first. He has worked as a fisherman, caretaker, farm laborer, leather shop worker, and many other boring. Each job at first he would the learner, and over time he became very welled skilled at his work. Also along the way he would meet locals and even some people from the states. Most of them were either his boss or his co-workers. He would work for these people and in return they would give him a place to stay and some food. This is how he would get by while his saty in mexico. So basically the book is about a man trying to find his true calling in a foreign land.
Throughout the book i really like how the main character would live off of his labor and hard work. What i mean by this is that he would hike or hitch hike to town to town working for food and shelter. He never gave up. Also i enjoyed the different people he would throughout the book. My favorite one was Chino who lived in the first town that Guzman stops at. Chino gives him a place to stay and intorduces him to everyone and reall watches out for him.
The only thing that i could say that i disliked about the book because it was very dull and boring. He would talk about doing every day things. Like getting up in the morning and brushing your teeth and eating breakfest and stuff like that. He could of made it more exciting. I mean who is going to know what really happened. Over all i thought this book was ok and would not recommend it to anyone.
Disappointing.......2002-08-27
A Vagabond in Mexico has its moments, but the author's unwillingness to provide information about himself means the reader is left in the dark as to why he chose this little adventure, what motivated him to go slumming in Mexico.
Moderately interesting, but it will seem very shallow to anyone familiar with the country and the people.
