Simply wonderful reading from first page to last.......2001-06-07
On a late winter day in 1972, a cat (soon to be named Dulcy) found a woman worthy to be her human and with whom she would live for the next seventeen and a half years. When Dulcy's lithe and graceful hunter's body began to fail, and the time came to say good-bye, then her story became a song of acceptance and bravery that would drive to the core of anyone who has ever felt close to an animal companion. Dee Ready's A Cat's Life: Dulcy's Story is beautifully, memorably illustrated by the spectacular artwork of Judy J. King and simply wonderful reading from first page to last.
A Cat's Life; Dulcy's Story.......2001-02-09
As one who has been "owned" by many felines during my lifetime, I found "Dulcy's Story" to be the history of a wonderful relationship between human and pet, all of the joys and all of the sorrows until the ultimate sorrow of losing a companion of many years. I've gone through it so often and it never gets easier, whether the decision to take the pet to its final rest is made by me through euthanasia or by a natural death. Reading "Dulcy's Story" demonstrates just how these beautiful creatures wrap us around their little paws until we become slaves to all their whims and demands, and we love every minute of it! Unfortunately, many of our family and friends don't understand our loyalty to our pets and, therefore often dismiss us as a little crazy. But that's all right - we know we're OK; it's the rest of them that we worry about and even feel sorry for them if they have never known the unconditional love of a furry friend. Dulcy was a very special cat to a very special human, and the story of their life together is a wonderful testament to their relationship.
It makes me wonder if one or both of my current cats were to write a book on their life with me, what would they say? I would like to think that they would say their lives have been enriched as much as mine has been living together for nearly nine years and hopefully many, many more years.
The Magical Bond Between Cats and Their Humans.......2000-11-09
If you were to take a survey that asked what a cat did with its life, chances are people would say "nap, look out the window, and get into stuff." And of course theyÕd be right. If those people lived with cats, however, they might have a lot more to add, and if they loved their cats, they might understand the magic that a cat brings to the life of the family it lives with.
The author of this book invites us to observe how this magical bond comes about between human and cat and how deep such a relationship becomes when each learns the ways of the other and grows to love and depend on the other.
Dulcy fits the stereotype many people have of cats. SheÕs independent, persnickety, bossy, and fastidious. But as we read, we find out some amazing things. Dulcy actually teaches her human how to understand cat language; and we learn that she is very complicated indeed and experiences many human feelings. We see her express jealousy, superiority, intelligence, impatience, understanding, loyalty, and above all, love.
Dulcy lives a long, full life and has many adventures, some humorous and some humiliating. And because the book is written in her voice, she shares many of these adventures with us. We get to know her human, too, and while we sometimes wonder how Dulcy puts up with her humanÕs foolishness, we come to understand her human in the special way that Dulcy understands her.
In the end, when Dulcy has been very ill for a long time, her human does not want to let her go. When she takes extraordinary measures to prolong Dulcy's life, we get the sense that Dulcy hangs on to life purely for the sake of her human. Just when her human feels that there is no hope, Dulcy manages to scrape together a few more days, even weeks. And when she goes, she goes sweetly, leaving behind a look of love and a lifetime of memories.
Dulcy's Life: A true love story.......2000-11-08
This outstanding book is a story about the befriending, training, hurt, and love that a cat, Dulcy, and her human experience throughout their life. As Dulcy's tells her life story with her human you will smile, laugh and even cry as their life together unfolds. As an animal lover and friend this story made me remember all the patience my dogs (2) and cats (2) have had to endure while training me. This is a 'must read' for anyone who loves or has loved an animal and will bring back memories of the special bond you had with them. The illustrations were great and the story wonderful!!
A book that rekindles fond memories of beloved past pets........1997-11-11
When I was fourteen years old my best friend, Tina (my faithful collie) died and I felt the first awful stirrings of grief. Night after night I laid on her favorite old rug crying, engulfed in loneliness and sorrow at her passing. To me it was the end of the world and no amount of comforting by my parents or friends could ease the pain. She had been my faithful companion, and since I was an only child she was in many ways my sister. As I grew older the grief subsided but the all of the lovely memories did not. When I read "A Cat's Life, Dulcy's Story" by Dee Ready, I knew there existed at least one more person on earth ( and one more pet in heaven!) who felt EXACTLY as I did. It made no difference that Dulcy was a cat and Tina was a dog; they were the same in spirit to each of us. This book is a must read for anyone who has ever loved or been loved by an animal soul mate.

A great how-to book on starting or re-starting horses.......2003-01-22
This is a really great little book. It is very simple and to the point. It goes well with what Buck teaches at clinics. It also contains the same things you'll see on his videos. It is for anyone wanting to offer the horse a better deal. I use these same ways of teaching the horse and they do work when you allow the horse to learn it.

Customer Reviews:
I'm still not sure what to do with this product!.......2007-07-24
I'm an Italian language teacher and was hoping to bring a new material for my students to use in class. Keep in mind that most of my students are adults who take Italian "for fun", so giving them new props to play with that can make their learning experience more enjoyable and less challenging is essential to keep them interested. I had many ask me if I knew of flash cards to practice with, so when I saw this product I couldn't wait to have it!
Unfortunately the price is way too high for what is actually in the box: two metal rings holding together two sets of flimsy light-weight cards (not laminated, so easy to tear and stain) with no-color drawings illustrating ADJECTIVES. So, if you need to learn some adjectives, this can be useful, if not, don't expect to be learning any VOCABULARY! You have the Italian adjective on one side of each card, and the English on the other side.
The cards came with no instructions, nor suggestions on how to use them in a class setting. I mean, why are there 2 sets of cards if there is no suggestion for a game?
I'm still trying to figure this out..

good but incompleate.......2006-11-10
the book has many ideas for design but should've had also ideas for colors and more aplications.
There is more to paisleys then I thought!.......2003-01-08
I am so glad I got this book and I am sure I will use it often. I think it will be very inspirational in things that I want to make with an "all over" pattern or for use in making borders. From looking at the paisleys in the book I can see where paisleys come from and I never really thought of that before. The paisleys may seem the same to some people but I do like seeing so many different ways to do the same thing. I have been happy with most of the Dover books that I have...I think they do a good job!
Good selection - very similar.......2000-05-16
The paisley patterns are well chosen, but I was hoping to see some other interesting textile patterns as well - most of the other patterns included were very boring and not as representative of the broad spectrum of textile patterns found in Indian fabrics...
Book Description
Take a journey into the fascinating world prowling just beneath your window . . .
At the foot of corporate skyscrapers and high-rise apartment buildings, New York City's homeless felines have formed their own society. Some once knew the comfort of human care and companionship, but most were born into a world remote from the gentle domesticated house cat. Considered by some to be a scourge to be eradicated, these "shadow cats" have won the hearts of many othersparticularly a fiercely protective group of New Yorkers whose mission is to help them survive.
Animal rescuer Janet Jensen is among the very few New Yorkers who have been granted entry into this amazing, undiscovered feline subculture. Her initiation into this world landed her an unexpected series of adventures with these wild, yet lovable, creatures. Previously inexperienced in animal rescue, she learned how to work withand outside ofthe "system" to protect her cats from the dangers of life in the city.
Janet Jensen shares her adventures with cats in various states of wildness: Mimi, Tammy, Seymour, Luna, and Wilyas well as a colorful cast of human characters she meets along the way. Her vivid accounts ensure that you'll never look at a stray cat the same way again!
Customer Reviews:
Ferals seen from the heart..........2005-11-27
Janet Jensen is a one of kind feral friend. She not only helps the feral cats in NYC, she understands their nature & needs. I have read many books on feral cats. Most approach them as wild, separate unapproachable animals. Janet challenges that conception. She shows how respect & love for our fellow creatures through understanding & care can cut through red tape, help mobilize caring people and keep a watchful, loving eye on animals that both need us & need their space. A must read for any feral activist.
Great read.......2003-09-27
I just loved this book. I was recommended it by my dogwalker of all people (http://www.petaholics.com). It is a very interesting book, don't miss it.
Right in My Own Backyard!.......2003-07-02
Shadow Cats was such an exciting story-and I am not even a cat lover. A dog person like me would never have guessed that rescuing kittens on the streets and back alleys of New York City could be so fraught with drama. J. Jensen took me places I never knew existed and I've lived here for 20 years. Her sensitive descriptions of felines made me want to own one. She proves that nature provides us with adventure no matter where we live. I've read stories about safaris in Africa that weren't half this enthralling.
Shadow Cats: Tales from New York City's Animal Underground.......2003-02-15
This book is a combination of suspenseful drama, personal journey, and expose of inner city feral cats and those who love them. I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what happened next to these feral cats with names and personalities, living on the edge of living or dying. Janet Jensen's writing was suspenseful and personal, making me care for these otherwise unwanted and unnoticed creatures of the night. I became acutely aware of an underground of cat lovers who take many risks in order to care for these unwanted orphans. Although it reads like a novel, the book is also full of useful and fascinating information.
wild.......2002-11-26
Heartwarming look at cats not quite so lucky as those who share our laps and hearts. It also is a facinating portrayal of people who go the extra mile for cats who cross their paths. You do not have to be a cat lover to appreciate this book but by the end of the book you may be one
Book Description
Based on the experiences of an Englishman who served as an instructor at Japan's leading military colleges, this volume provides a rare insider's view of the making of the Japanese warrior. Starting with an introduction to Japanese military history, Norman reviews the education of the nation's military and naval officers during the late 19th century.
Customer Reviews:
Fascinating Historical Perspective.......2006-06-05
This book is a reprint of a 1905 book by British Army officer F. J. Norman. It provides a fascinating historical and includes 32 rare photographs and illustrations. Modern works provide a lot more in-depth historical information about these martial arts as well as comprehensive "how to" perform kendo, sumo, and jujutsu, etc. but this is one of the very first Western books about the subjects. Contents include Japanese military history, education of Japanese military and naval officers, kenjutsu (fencing), sumo and jujutsu (wrestling). A mere 96 pages it's a quick and easy read. Neat stuff; fascinating historical perspective.

The Jimmy Streater Story; Saga of an All-American.......1999-12-29
This book portrays with stark reality the rise and fall of a champion. I played against Jimmy Streater in 1975 in one of the greatest high school football games ever in our state. The book chronicles the history of the Streater Family in Sylva, N.C. from slave days to the birth of Jimmy's immediate family. From there it focuses on the accomplishments of Jimmy and his siblings with the main focus being on Jimmy Streater and his rise to national recognition as the quarterback for the University of Tennessee. The most enlightening portion of the book begins when Jimmy departs UT and is forced to reckon with the harsh realities that life deals he and his family. He faces tragedy when his brother is paralyzed in an auto crash, his own battle with diabetes, depression, and addiction to cocaine. Along the way, this once great athlete loses himself in addiction which costs him his marriage, his left arm, his self-esteem, and on several occasions, almost his life. Ultimately, the book teaches us that there is always hope. This book is a "must read" for coaches at every level, for parents of adolescents, and anyone else who values the triumphs of the human spirit.
