Great, As Always!.......2007-01-16

I am a big fan of Rick Steve's guidebooks so understand my bias. We used this 2006 version in Dec 2006 to find lodging, a few restaurants and many of the walking tours. All information was still up to date and excellent. However, please note that the 2007 version should come out in Jan 2007 or close to that time and will be even more current. Great tips and easy to read information on days and times that sights are open or open late is essential and very helpful in planning the trip.

Currently I'm reading Alexander of Macedon and the author uses latin phrases the way I use the and it. Learning Latin Through Mythology has helped me make sense out of a lot of the passages. To even get a better grasp of the language get, Amo, Amas, Amat and More by Eugene Ehrlich.

I says high res CD, but they are low res scans where the dpi was raised to 600. The book is better to scan as the images are nice, but small. I would never purchase a product from this book company again.

im on the fence about this one...it has lots of artwork, but hte art on the disk are clearly scans, and not even great ones- they didnt bother to use descreen filers. this is also a very old product, and there were 3-4 corrupted files on the disc, which took some work to figure out exactly which ones.

the worst thing however, is that it is simply a picture book- there is no description of ANY of them. i wanted to know why certain animals and elements were used, and i am left to search ou t yet another book like this for satisfaction. know you waht, im giving this a 2, a 3 is too good. update this book NOW.

These Dover book/CD ROMs are a graphic designers delight. It's so hard to find good quality graphics that are royalty free, and not end up spending a fortune. Dover has a good selection of royal free images that are presented in a book and are on CD ROM.

Good introduction to canine behavior.......2003-12-29

It's largely anecdotal and sentimental. It's not particularly scientific, nor does it pretend to be. That said, it does provide interesting takes on various canine mannerisms. It's a short book, and I read it in a sitting, but did not find any huge breakthroughs.

"Scratch a Dog, Find a Wolf".......2002-04-02

Everyone who owns a dog has observed strange doggie behaviors. Well, at least curious to us, but not to our canine companions. When you've had a couple of different dogs, you know that they all exhibit instinctive traits that seem very important to them. In this small book, Tom Davis explains that dogs are descended from wolves amd have many of the same traits as their wild cousins. He also gives a thoughtful answer to over 40 questions that interest many of us about our pets.

We understand a lot about our dogs because we know them and we're able to use our common sense to figure things out, but sometimes it's helpful to hear what an expert has to say. Because
they love us, we all would like to think that our dogs are excellent at judging character, but how about the times when they are suspicious of someone who we know is a good person? Check out "Why Are Dogs Distrustful of Some Strangers and Not Others?"

Vicky, our Bearded Collie was the greatest of diggers. She could and did push cinder blocks out of the way in order to dig under a fence. Read "Why Do Dogs Dig Holes?"

Princess Poppy, a Beardie Husky mix acted the most like a wolf. She would put her head up in the wolf stance and really give off a couple of piercing howls. The author gives several reasons for this behavior in "Why Do Some Dogs Howl?" My favorite of his answers is: "Do a pub full of Irishmen need a reason to sing?"

This book was a gift from my friend Karin who, along with our dogs has shared a lot of daily walks with me where we have pondered the question that all dog owners want to know, "Why do dogs do that?"

A fun book!

Funny and curiousity !.......2000-05-24

I'm a dog lover but a lot of behaviors he/she does confuses me sometimes. The author Tom Davis wrote this book explaining in details for unbelievable 42 manners of dogs. He artfully described in funny way but I also found that some realistic explaination hidden on it. The book gives relaxation to me as I think it is for the general dog lover and interest book reader, not for reference. The author can raise up even detailed l behavior to tell us such as 'why do wet dogs always shake on you?' or some frequent question from children such as 'why do dogs come in so many sizes, shapes, and colors? !! In summary, this book reflects broader views for dog lover in relaxing method and fitted words. Frankly to say, I love my dog and understand him/her much more after reading this book.

An unusual "take" on gardening.......2007-05-09

This is an extremely interesting "take" on gardening. It had never occurred to me to plant directly on pavement, but this book convinced me I should try it. I did, and with spectacular results. I now have flowers growing in the middle of my driveway in a strip of dirt that's about 10' x 2' x 4-8" high. It looks much more natural than a traditional raised bed, and, amazingly, the dirt has stayed put without benefit of artificial barriers, just a few judiciously placed rocks. I also now have flowers growing out of a rotting stump. This book opened to me a whole new world of possibilities.

What makes Du Bois so interesting is not only his intellect but that there were many intelligent people around him that challenged his mind. Booker T. and Garvey are the obvious ones but E. Franklin Frazier, A. Philip Randolph, Alexander Crummel and a host of others did as well. Manning does an exceptional job detailing one of the greats of the 20th Century. Black people should search this book to see not only what liberation requires but also as a tool to be used in order to filter through the many quasi leaders parading around today. "Any education that black people receive must be centered around solving their political, social and economic problems. It must start in Africa and come right up to the present day Negro." I'm para-phrasing but has anyone heard anything near this insightful from the characters of the last 25 years?
