We share the earth with a wide variety of animal species, each of which brings something special to the diversity of the planet. By knowing more about how animals behave and live, we gain a greater understanding of how life evolved and the importance of biodiversity. Domestication investigates the animal behavioral trait with which we are most familiar -- how various species of animals have, over the last few millenia, become useful members of human societies. Each chapter examines a particular type of domestication, and includes accounts of of exemplary species that examines their biology, their domestication history, the results of domestication on their shape, size, color and physiology, and their comparative behavior - before and after domestication. Domestication is highly illustrated with both color and black and white illustrations. Domestication examines a wide variety of domesticated animals: BLTaming the Wolf -- how pre-modern humans domesticated the animals that now share our homes and households BLChanging Nature -- the new domesticated animals of the 20th century -- monkeys bred for the pet trade, llamas hybridised with alpacas for greater pet appeal and woolier coats, the production of fennec foxes, albino hedgehogs and mutant hairless guinea pigs BLConservation by Domestication -- how zoos attempt to maintain species purity in breeding, which results in some form of domestication BLFeral Animals -- the fate of domesticated animals that become re-established in the wild, such as feral pigs, feral cats, and wild horses.

The authors also examine formations, motions, shifts, and adjustments, the running game, pass-protection schemes (50-, 70-, 90-, and 300-series), and cover the three-step, dropback, bunch, sprint-and-dash, and screen passing games in full detail with easy-to-read diagrams and illustrations. Finally, Criner and Sosnowski explore the two tight end package and the goal line and short-yardage heavy package.

Detail on the spread attack and a resource worth having........2003-06-24
While some of this material will be familiar to those who make a living from coaching on the gridiron, this book provides a well written distillation of that material into one readily available resource. Books published on a offensive system that is motivated to spread the field and committed to throwing the football, are rare so finding ones that are as well written as this one are worthy of praise.
Let me start with the negative on this book. The diagrams are at times unclear and confusing. Specifically player's assignments are not clearly explained: a block and delay route into the flat, is he hot releasing, does he have block or release into a route rules?? Its impossible to tell from the diagrams and the authors while describing the plays do not do a sufficient job of alleviating that confusion.
Also some early topics do not get enough detail. As example the authors "Hot" principles chapter was too thin and even after rereading it I was still a little puzzled even though it was not the first time I had heard of the triangular read concept. Also for an offense predicated on the ability to pass and send mulitiple receivers into the the secondary it does little to describe individual receiver techniques and releases.
Now for the good and believe me there is plenty of good in this book. It does provide great information on how this offense wants to attack defenses and why it uses different formations. It does a good job of relaying how to teach these principles to the most important person on the field the QB.
People familiar with Northwestern-Clemson-West Virginia attack will immediatly recognize some of the running game of this offense. Those familiar with the horizontal and vertical concepts of modern passing attacks at Purdue, Marshall and Florida will recognize the passing parts of this offense. The authors however do a good job of offering their own ideas and show how they try to implement all of the differing concepts into one cohesive offense.
All the time preaching as often needs to be reminded to coaches to only use what you can reasonably practice.
This book is not for the lower levels of football, it is geared toward the older athlete and those who coach them. However it does offer concepts to every coach to consider.

Being new to the church a few years ago, this was a very informative and interesting book. It told history, why things were done. One of the neatest things, was about each season in the church and the different colors used. Great book!

This dictionary provides the right amount of detail needed for a new Episcopalian to make their way. It's not so detailed though that one becomes bogged down.

An absolutely pioneering ground breaking book on Civil War equipment when it was originally published. I literally wore the covers off mine a thirty years ago! It is nice to see it reprinted. Dr. Lord put extensive research into this work, and to my knowledge it was the first book on Civil War equipment. Historian or collector alike will enjoy this book, and it has stood up to the test of time, despite shelves of books on the subject of Civil War equipment since then. If you don't have one, get one. If you already have one, buy another. It is that good.

BUY THE FIRST AND PASS ON THE REST.......2007-09-11
I am a big fan of Dr. Lord. He certainly broke new ground when he first published his classic Civil War Collector's Encyclopedia (Vol. 1) which was considered the Bible in the field for years. While many of his other earlier works were just as good, his subsequent works of Civil War Collector's Encyclopedia Vols. 2-5 that he did in later years just kept declining, lacking the original research and text that made his first a classic, not to mention the quality of the memorabilia, as well as the authenticity of some of them. Check out some of his earlier works, you can't go wrong there, and don't pass on Vol. 1 in this series.
A Civil War Reenactors review........2002-01-05
This book and the 4 following volumes are a great addition to anyones library who is a collector, a historian, a reenactor (like myself) or just has a general intrest in the civil war. It has hundreds of items with photos and descriptions of items ranging from swords to sewing kits to pistols to uniforms. As a reenactor, it was very useful in finding modern items that can pass as civil war period.

Radical Passion examines eighty essays and reports on the United States (1852-1865) by the German-American journalist Ottilie Assing (1819-1884) along with twenty-seven extant letters from Assing to Frederick Douglass during the years 1870-1879. A keen and critical observer of the American scene before and during the Civil War, Assing was passionately committed to her personal freedom and to political and social equality for African Americans. She believed in radical social movements, backed the German Revolution of 1848, and became an enthusiastic supporter of radical abolitionism, women's emancipation, and civil rights for black Americans. For almost three decades, she and Frederick Douglass were close intellectual collaborators and lovers. The reports and essays, originally written in German, are presented in their first English translation; an introduction provides biographical background and historical context.
