This is a great book . I have all the Benoit books and dvds. I think this is the best of the Benoit books. There is so much info in these books it's not right out front , it's between the lines but be assured its there. Tracking is regional but the Whitetail info is not. I have learned more about mature Whitetails from the Benoit books and dvds than any other source. Larry's the man no doubt but Lanny Benoit may be the best pure deer hunter alive. Theres a little horn tooting in the book but as someone once said " If you can do it it ain't braggin ". I have Hal Bloods book too it is also very very good. If you buy just one book on tracking buy this one or Hals.

The book does a good job outlining the tracking methods that the Benoits use to consistently harvest large bucks. There are also several interesting stories of deer hunting adventures within the book.

These tracking methods are regional in nature and not very useful in the midwest where I primarily hunt. For anyone who hunts from a stand, this book will be a dissapointment.

I read the book from my local library rather than purchasing it and I am glad that I did.

Overall, it is a good read but not worth the money unless you hunt in the northeast like the Benoits.

If you track or stalk deer then you can learn a lot from this book. The Benoit's are quite remarkable with their year over year successes. However, if you are a stand hunter or hunt in private land areas that don't allow tresspassers then this book is basically worthless other than the nice pictures in it.

Tracking Big Bucks on Snowy Days.......2003-01-28

This is one of the best and most unique whitetail hunting books I've read. The classic and now out-of-print "How to Bag the Biggest Buck of Your Life," did a great job of describing the Benoit tracking method. This newest book is even better.

"Big Bucks the Benoit Way" is an excellent presentation of how the Benoits hunt. The Benoits are almost exclusively trackers, and they base their techniques on what their vast experience has proven to work best: not on the theories of others. This independent thinking makes this a very refreshing book, and their dozens of 200-pound plus bucks prove that they know what they are doing.

This book is loaded with great photos of big bucks and the Benoits in their trademark green and black wool jackets. There's plenty of shots of sagging meat poles, the deep woods on snowy days, and the tracks and rubs of big bucks.

Most valuable though, is the great information on how the Benoits find, identify, and then follow the track of a heavy buck until they successfully bag him. While few of us will ever be so spectacularly successful using these methods, all of us can learn from this book. I've successfully used these same Benoit methods to track down and bag trophy bucks from Montana to Wisconsin.

Hunters who enjoy this book share a kinship in understanding the magic of the deep woods and a fresh tracking snow and the smoking hot track of a big buck. If you are that type of hunter, you will like this book.

i have read big bucks the benoit way at least a dozen times.the best deer hunting book i have ever read.i live and hunt in north dakota no matter where you live and hunt you can learn from this book.as far as i am concerned larry and his family are the best deer hunters in the country they hunt in the toughest whitetail country there is out there tracking no matter what the weather is doing. HUNTING HARD EVERY DAY .taking home the biggest 200+ bucks they can find. bryce towsly and the benoits done a great job putting this book together. im hoping there will be more from the first family of deerhunting thankyou and keep bringing home those big bucks.

Outstanding "how to" and "preparation for" book........1998-11-27

I purchased this book in advance of an ice-fishing trip to North Dakota a group of us are planning to make in January, 1999. This volume is so thorough, that I just ordered "Hooked on Ice Fishing Volume I" over Amazon.com.

This book saved me from making over $300 in unecessary equipment purchaes. I was thinking about buying a Flasher sonar unit for the trip, but descriptions accompanied by pictures of LCR units in this volume made me realize that one of my current units will work just fine on ice, and now I know how to accurately interpret the signals when the unit is stationary as opposed to moving in a boat.

This is one of the best fishing books I have ever read.

In-Fisherman's "ICE FISHING SECRETS" is an excellent choice for novice or advanced hard-water anglers. They cover so many topics; from locations to equipment, bait and lures, multiple species, and different types of water patterns. These guys are enthusiasts, and have experienced all facets of the ice fishing game. I don't think any avid ice angler could ever go wrong here. I refer to it numerous times each season, both for information, and pleasant "story-telling" type reading. If you've tried ice fishing, this will help. And if you haven't, this should convince you to give it a go! These experts really "cover" it all, when the grips of winter cover your favorite fishin' spots. The action no longer ends in December. It just heats up!

The author was fairly comprehensive in this book, covering everything that beginning and intermediate-level ice anglers NEED to know for safety, comfort and fishing success. However, after reading half the book I had to put it down due to the overwhelming support the author gives to his obvious sponsor, HT Enterprises. HT does make good equipment, but this book is blatently biased toward their products and the reader is literally pummelled with free advertising for their products. I almost liken this to some TV fishing shows that are obviously paid advertisements cloaked in the veil of good ol' boy entertainment. Consequently, after forcing myself to read the rest of this book, this angler had a bad taste left in his mouth and is wishing he had purchased a different title.

Well done, full coverage book on ice fishing. If you thought ice fishing was slow paced, and a book about ice fishing even slower... your wrong. The writter's love of the sport show through in this excellent book. From safety and cold weather clothing to hooks, lines and sinkers, this is THE book for beginners. The author covers the spiritual side of fishing and the outdoors, then goes into the nuts and bolts. After reading it, I only hoped winter lasted longer. Well done.

This book had tons of great tips ranging from the "getting started" basics, to the advanced discussions of thermoclines, etc. Is also a nice book to read on those warm summer days, to hope and dream for a good cold winter !!

Not only is Lukas's book easy to read and engaging, it has gotten me very excited about my career. I bought this book to use as clip art for graphic design projects. I was pleased to see that there were many "usable" insect representations. Unfortuantely, there were fewer pieces of "usable" flower art (for my project anyway) because most of the leaves have been eaten by the insects!

Very good reference book, but be careful on one point.......2003-04-22

This book will not only show you how to plan a nice garden, but also takes a good look at 95% of the most popular shrubs you would ever want for your garden. If you're a beginner, be cautioned that it doesn't tell you upfront whether or not each plant is evergreen, semi-evergreen or deciduous, which is very important, though it generally will tell you if the plant IS evergreen; my complaint is that they should have listed this feature in the header for each plant. They don't spend as much time as I'd like on each shrub and I'd like to see at least 2 photos of each shrub, but NOBODY does that anyway and they still do a good job. This book is valuable to your shrub planning, so I'd buy this and Taylor's 50 Best Shrubs and you'll have the 2 books you need. Also, they should have added a USDA zone map.

Good Reference Starter.......2000-06-23

I found the book is separated into 3 sections. The First third is about landscaping techniques for various locations of your property, the second third is basic care, pruning, planting, and transplanting techniques, and the last third is a photo gallery of shrubs along with their names, and care instructions. Overall its a great starter book and I find myself carrying this book with me to all the nurseries to use as reference. However, this book is thin and can only cover a limited amount of shrubs. I would have seperated the last third from the first two and made 2 books, once you read the landscaping and planting sections the only reason you hold this book is for the photo gallery. For a more complete photo reference I would recommend Dirr's Hardy Tree and Shrubs book, and use the Ortho book as a supplement.

Super Resourse for Planning Your Garden.......1999-07-08

This book, along with Susan Roth's Four-Season Landscapes convinced me to use shrubs for the backbone of my garden, and to add perennials for sparkle. Has good lists to help in shrub selection: for esample, Shrubs for Fall Color, Shrubs with Showy Leaves, etc. Half the book, 45 pages, is a shrub selection guide with color photos, the necessary factual info, and recommended cultivars. Not a coffee table book, but one to refer to again and again. Ortho's Perennial book is good, too.
