The Biology and Medicine of Rabbits and Rodents.......2000-01-10
The purpose is to provide lab professionals with the advice on the maintenance of rabbits and rodents, concerning their care and health. It covers rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, gerbil, mouse and rat. Even though it is intended for *experts*, the book is relatively easy to read and is very thorough starting with the general husbandry and biology, followed by clinical procedures, sign of disease, diagnoses and listing specific diseases and conditions from A-Z. It lists the hosts for the disease, etiology, transmission, predisposing factors, clinical signs, necropsy signs, diagnosis, prevention, effect on research and public health significance. The last chapter has self test with case reports.
Even though this is not an *exotic pet rodent* book, it is a great reference book for any rabbit or rodent pet owner, since most diseases occur in pets as well as in laboratory animals. A nice middle ground between serious technical veterinary books and the common photo pet shop books.

Book Description
After nearly 20 years, the publication of this Second Edition of
The Biology of the Laboratory Rabbit attests to its popularity within the scientific community as well as to the need to update an expanding database on the rabbit as a major species in laboratory investigation. The principal aim of this text is to provide a comprehensive and authoritative source of scientifically based information on a major laboratory animal species. The text continues to emphasize the normal biology as well as diseases of the European (domestic) rabbit, Orytolagus cuniculus, especially the New Zealand White breed, with occasional reference to other rabbit species (Sylvilagus sp.) and hares (Lepus sp.). New topics have been added to this second edition in response to changing trends in biomedical research and product testing as well as to suggestions from readers.

Whether we're beret-bearing beatniks or Lexus-driving cosmopolitans, road trips still beckon. Gas up the tank, load up the trunk--it's hard to resist. But who has time to waste on wrong turns, getting lost, and bad choices? When it comes to finding fun, time is of the essence, so Jamie Jensen's guide takes the pain out of the road trip, be it across the continent or a Sunday jaunt. With directions to pit stops, scenic routes, bizarre museums, and the best apple pie stands, all you have to do is drive.
Book Description
Now in its 10th anniversary edition, the best-selling Road Trip USA is better than ever. Inside you’ll find cross-country routes and road-tested advice for adventurers who want to see part of America that the interstates have left behind. Mile-by-mile highlights celebrate major cities, obscure towns, popular attractions, roadside curiosities (if you’re looking for the world’s largest jackalope, you’re in luck), local lore, and oddball trivia. Exit the interstates and create your own driving adventures on America's two-land scenic highways. Features include: a flexible network of route combinations, extensively cross-referenced to allow for hundreds of possible itineraries; essential tips for the road: call letters of lively radio stations, Survival Guides for two dozen cities, and details on where to eat and sleep; and more than 125 detailed maps.
Customer Reviews:
Sometimes it is best just to take it slow.......2007-07-11
Turnpikes and superhighways have improved much about our lives, making commutes to work and other vital travel easier and faster. Sometimes, though, it's great to just slow down and enjoy the scenery - and that's just what Road Trip USA: Cross-Country Adventures on America's Two-Lane Highways helps all of us to do.
In this book, you'll discover plenty about out-of-the-way places that can be reached by traveling on two-lane roads in the United States. Discover lesser known monuments, museums, restaurants and roads, and enjoy the offbeat sites that you'll see. It's likely that you'll even learn something new about your own state or hometown.
Road Trip USA recommends places to eat and stay and it provides survival guides to some of America's most intriguing cities. If you've fallen into a vacation rut, this book will break you of it, as at least one quirky destination - and probably many more - will grab your attention and cause you to go on your own road trip rendezvous.
Interesting but not a great reference.......2007-03-09
This book details five north-south and five east-west journeys across the US. The book is arranged into 10 sections, one for each path, each of which lists, in order, all the sites worth seeing on the particular route in that section.
While it is a good collection of sites, the book is laid out in a way that makes it useful only if you read the entire thing. There is no easy way to look up the attractions by state or as dots on a map or by type or anything like that. There isn't even a table of contents at the beginning of the book or of each section. The only reference you have to a particular site is the blurb itself.
So while some may find this to be a useful guide, I'd say it needs a bit more work before it's a good reference.
Fun for the Road.......2007-03-05
When you think of summer, and of freedom and adventure, you automatically think "road trip." Sometimes, you just want to jump into your car for a day trip and, other times, you'd love to trek around America for an entire summer. Some trips you know exactly where you're going and what you plan to see and, other times, you go where the spirit of travel leads you.
In Jamie Jensen's book, Road Trip USA: Cross Country Adventures on America's Two-Lane Highways, we're given quality information on fun places to visit, including places where celebrities stayed, restaurants with apple pie tasty enough for a visit (or two!) and scenic locations worth seeing just for their sheer beauty.
Trivia, myths and legends provided in the book makes trips even more entertaining. The tips of where to take photographs are terrific and provide a road trip traveler the chance to easily capture the most interesting sights for friends and family back home.
I like how Jensen covers 35,000 miles of road tripping in just one book and we appreciate his color-coded routes. Nobody likes getting lost and he pays attention to the smallest details that provide travelers comfort, including the call numbers of local radio stations.
Get off the major highways and use Jensen's book for eleven road trips that you'll never forget!
road trip usa cross country adventures on americas two lane highways.......2007-01-09
great book, I like that you can start at any part of each trip. After reading some sections that I have already traveled, I'm going to retrace some of them because I found that I missed alot of interesting places that were listed in the book. Great reading, can't wait till this summer to let the adventures begin.
Informative.......2006-11-10
This seems to be a very interesting and informative book that will be enjoyed a lot.

Customer Reviews:
Good in some ways, problematic in others.......2005-12-01
One thing Colloquial Scottish Gaelic does very well is focusing on the phrases, expressions and idioms that are such an important part of the Gaelic language. However, the coverage of grammar is skimpy and inadequate. The pronunciation and spelling section at the beginning of the book is also quite poorly done; a lot of essential information is missing. In addition, what information there is describes a general Hebridean pronunciation, but the speakers on the accompanying recording have rather strong Lewis accents, and Lewis Gaelic is the most phonologically distinct dialect in the Hebrides; in short, the book describes (incompletely) one way of pronouncing Gaelic while the recordings feature another. I have personally had several students who got lost and confused trying to teach themselves with Colloquial Scottish Gaelic for this reason. So while I would say that this course is good supplementary material for somebody who already has studied some Gaelic, I do not recommend it as a first course for new students of the language.
easy to read but difficuilt to master.......2004-03-13
There's a long preamble, the pronunciation is very accurately explained, it runs later.
If you have some knowledge of Scottish Gaelic, it can be useful to have a rehearsal in little time; gaelic songs and crosswords are unvaluable.
Well, it's everything but an introduction to the language; I would be curious to know someone that has really become proficient only with the aid of that book.
If you don't want to forget your Gaelic, try it
Not for a beginner........2002-02-06
Look elsewhere for a beginning point in gaelic. This course seems to be okay for a person that has some gaelic understanding. A beginner starts like a child learning names of things and people and then basic adjectives. The basic verbs come next and then more sophisticated conjugations.
The tapes do follow the book but they go too quick driving me crazy pushing "stop, rewind and play" to repeat the word. The book gives the sounds of the vowels and consonants but many of the words heard on the tape defy any attempt to construct the same word phonetically as found in print. If you have an apptitude in languages then you could try this method of learning but if you are like most of us - don't! I have studied other languages but nothing like this ancient Gaelic, it has only 16 letters in its alphabet.
Similar to Teach Yourself Scottish Gaelic.......2001-08-03
I'd rate this just shy of 4 stars. I'm a beginner who's been through TY Gaelic a couple of times on my own. This book and cassette follow a similar format with dialogs supplemented by grammar sections. One difference is that this book gives a translation of the dialog rather than word/phrase definitions. I prefer the latter, since then you can use those words/phrases as building blocks while the translation gives you it all at once.
One nice thing about Colloquial SG is that there are multiple, subject-related dialogs in each chapter. Another useful feature is the descriptions of how Gaelic words and phrases work in relation to English syntax. Colloquial is more casual in it's approach to the learner: a positive. There are also various word puzzles to work on. However, I found TY Gaelic to have better cultural sections.
The set I bought features two cassettes, as does TY Gaelic. Colloquial Gaelic features more male speakers (although they don't seem as "lively" as the female speakers) on the tapes than does TY Gaelic. Also, like TYG, this book uses simplistic cartoons in the exercises, which I disliked.
Overall, I was glad to buy this book/cassette set for it's slightly different material, different speakers (accents, pronunciation, gender), and more casual approach than Teach Yourself Gaelic. The two complement each other more than they overlap.
Entertaining as well as enlightening.......2001-05-08
I'm coming to this language cold with a Southern American background, so needless to say, I've been intimidated to even try to learn Gaelic. It indeed proves to be one of those languages that one must simply submerse one's ears and mind in, and this lesson set gives that opportunity in an undaunting, clear and inviting way. It gives the requisite pronunciation guide, it pushes the student to formulate Gaelic responses, and it peppers the lessons with gorgeous readings of Gaelic as well as snippets of mouth music and Gaelic singing. If nothing else, the voice who reads Donald/Mr. MacDonald will charm one into a profound appreciation for the language, even though one's own pronunciation may remain out of reach for quite some time. Hearing Gaelic read with such a pristine tongue is worth the price of this course several times over. If he isn't a world-renowned narrator, he should be. It would have been nice if the tape gave the page number each time it skipped to another place in the book, and the section on hurting anatomy gets a wee bit grim. Nevertheless, these are minor setbacks. After playing the tapes and studying the book a few times, I've almost by accident caught on to some of the language's nuances, and it's a language that's full of nuances, skips, and mystery. My experience so far has been that the only way to come to an understanding of Gaelic is by these accidental discoveries and sinking-ins, and the book is geared in that direction. You overhear conversations and by the third time around, patterns emerge. This might be vexing for those looking for a more conventional method of learning, but to me, it's proven fun and, albeit slowly, enlightening. Along with lessons on the language is some interesting material on culture and history. This is presented for the most part in Gaelic, so in order to learn more, one must delve more into Gaelic. The course seems to take for granted that actually learning the language is indeed daunting, and so extends invitation after invitation to simply learn more. I find this very helpful. An overly simplistic or technical approach would have bored me. I can listen without yet understanding the half of it, and yet gradually a picture of sorts does emerge, and the listening itself is like watching gold flow. I'm glad I splurged and bought this course. One day, I hope to be conversant in Gaelic, but it's enough just now to have a deeper and stronger appreciation for such an enchanting language.

With the globalization of markets, greater foreign competition, and the reduction of entry barriers, it becomes all the more important to benchmark a company's performance against other firms on a worldwide basis. Doing so, however, is not an obvious task. First, one needs to find firms competing in the same sector. Second, one needs to control for exchange rate volatility. Finally, one needs use comparable financial standards. This report overcomes these issues and gives full financial benchmarks vis--vis worldwide competitors who are present in the same narrow industrial classification. Benchmarks cover assets, liabilities, income and ratios. Since our reports are printed on demand, the figures available are for the latest quarter and are the most up to date available (4 reports are produced each year).

For The Carnival Collector..........2001-01-28
I have been intrigued with carnival chalkware for a few years now. I decided to purchase a book that would have pictures of chalkware and a price guide to assist me in establishing the worth of certain pieces. I found this book to be laid out very nicely, user friendly, and detailed color and black and white photos. Although the price guide is from 1995, it still allows the amateur collector to establish which pieces are more collectable than others. It was also enjoyable to look at the ads from the mid 1900s that are included in this book. The ads had a little description of the chalkware item and the price for the item at that time. For those interested, it also has pictures and prices of other carnival prizes and games. I found this to be a very nice book and was pleased with my purchase.

Customer Reviews:
The Best Bonsai Book!!.......2005-11-09
I was mostly...unimpressed by the bonsai books you normally find in a book store, so I asked my mentor(world famous) for a good suggestion for a book. He suggested this book. I went out and bought it. It is so easy to understand. It made the hardest stuff seem easy. It put everything that would seem extremely difficult into words even a beginner could understand. I used this book to save a tree that was almost killed by Hurricane Katrina! Using this book I still havn't lost a single tree.
IT I S IRREPLACABLE FOR ME.......2004-10-03
After many starts which led to complete disasters for me, this book finally gave the information I need to get started in this wonderful art. The instructions are great for a beginner like myself. The combinaiton of written, step by step direcitons along with the wonderful photographs makes this book a joy to work with. I cannot say if this is a good book for the advanced student, as I am far, far from that category, but I can say without a doubt that it is great for beginners. It certainly answered all of my questions. This book was far better than any other I purchased on the subject! Thank you SO much Mr Gustafson!
Excellent Resource for Beginners.......2004-08-26
Interested in bonsai but clueless on where to begin? This book makes an excellent starting point. It clearly and concisely explains the basic "rules" - which the author advises the reader to learn, practice, then feel free to ignore as their confidence and creativity take over. Every basic area, from tools to pots, from soil to common plant choices, are explained and illustrated with hundreds of drawings and color photographs. If you decide to truly pursue the art of bonsai this book alone will not be enough - you will need to draw upon other books and build a resource library. But, for your first introduction to the hobby, I highly recommend this "workshop".
Very well written book.......2001-11-27
The book is very well done and informative. Technically, I don't think I'd call this book for the total beginner as it doesn't go into a lot of detail as to types of trees. It does briefly mention types of trees that work as bonsai, but doesn't give care sheets and the like found in some other bonsai books. The workshops are good in the book, however, it would have been better if the formatting was not so confusing. You tend to see pictures either before or after the text and that does cause some consternation. All things considered though, this is a really helpful book and one definitely worth buying.
great for beginning to intermediate levels.......2001-10-09
this is a great way to get someone into bonsai. herb gustafson, in this and his other books, does a great job of walking through different necessities (food, light, watering, tools, etc.) and techniques using several examples. he also gives information without seeming biased towards one style or type of plant, but shares all with the reader. definitely worth getting, even if you're not sure about getting into bonsai.

Book Description
This volume deals with the important Herculanean and philosophical studies of the great Viennese Hellenist Theodor Gomperz. The introduction presents both a concise biography of Gomperz and a careful discussion of his work on the Herculanean Papyri of Epicurus and Philodemus. Gomperz's essays, reprinted for the first time, are collected here in a photomechanical reprint and furnished with a new pagination. To respect the historical character of the collection no updating of the articles has been attempted. An Index of the Herculanean Papyri and a Concordance complete the book.

A Catalyst.......2002-12-20
Not only is this book inspiring but it is hilarious. I actually laughed out loud (a number of times). The serious, life changing situations that this young man endured could have overwhelmed the mind. But the author provided great balance with humor, which didn't seem forced but flowed naturally. This book will inspire the young and old to not give up during the trials of life. It proves that God has a purpose for us all. It also proves that many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord shall deliver them out of them all. Put 'em up, author!
