Customer Reviews:
Don't go to Rome without this book!.......2006-12-05
I just returned from Italy where I used this book practically as a bible while in Rome. Having used other travel books around the world, I really enjoyed and appreciated how Rick Steves organizes his book and provides you with just the right amount of detail and direction to make the most out of your trip.
Only having four days in Rome, his book helped me see the major sites, avoid long lines and make the best of a short trip. I recommend reading the recommended 'tours' the evening before to help you plan your attack. It was great to be able to wander through the Forum, book in hand and hit the highlights while understanding the magnificance of the place.
The way the tours are grouped are fabulous. I really felt like I saw the best that Rome had to offer.
The tips on avoiding lines was invaluable! Take those tips to heart and you'll save many hours of frustration. I used a combination of restaurants I found, plus his recommendations and never had a bad meal.
Truly a great book, now If only I can find a similar book for Asia.
Can't wait to get to Rome!.......2006-08-22
This book will be my BIBLE when traveling to Rome. There are so many good tips and inside information. Having this book will help us plan our trip and make the best of our time and money. Because we're traveling NEXT August, I believe I'll try the 2007 addition too. Thanks Rick Steves!!
Rick Steves' Rome 2006 paperback.......2006-08-10
Great "tips" on how to get the most out of your trip. His style of writing makes you want to read more--very funny! Especially love the small section on Italian phrases. Thanks Rick--now we just have to go to Rome to use it!
Rick Steves is essential.......2006-08-03
Any American contemplating a visit to Rome will be well advised to pick up a copy of this book. Rick not only describes the things to do but lets you know what NOT to do and what to avoid - sage advise for the first-time visitor. He also directs the tourist to out-of-the-way restraints and hotels where one can meet real Romans not just doormen. This book is a must!
Rick Steves Rome .......2006-07-13
Mr. Steves Rome tour guide is, like most of his other books very useful. I always want to know where to stay and have that arranged before I arrive in a city. Rick's useful information helps with that. He has very good ideas for arranging a tour of the city and helps with places to eat.

Customer Reviews:
A Little Pink Powerhouse.......2007-09-03
This Redhouse portable dictionary is the one I use the most. It's the right size (I don't strain a shoulder muscle picking it up), and the two dictionaries are indexed by alphabet - those neat little thumbnail-shaped tabs. But best of all, the definitions often give a variety of uses for the word, and in different forms. For example: The definition of "speak" includes "speak out against," "be spoken for," "speak one's mind" and "We've had no snow to speak of all winter" - among others. This dictionary is a word finder and language lesson, all in one. I highly recommend investing in it.

Whether you want to prepare for dressage competition or simply improve your riding skills, this is a matchless guide.
Customer Reviews:
Fabulous dressage book.......2003-10-09
This is a fabulous dressage book. Be sure to get the 2nd edition as it is a joy to read and is clear and explains everything so well. If you only get one dressage book, this should be the one. I have tons of them and this one is the best.
Highly technical, thoroughly detailed.......2003-06-09
Here's a book for the well-educated, well-experienced dressage rider who wants to refine their skill and reaffirm their knowledge. It is by no means a quick, light read. It's a textbook to be read, studied, and absorbed with dedication. Charles de Kunffy is a master of classical dressage who apparently spent a great deal of effort putting this book together for the serious rider. He has high ideals and evident compassion for the horse, and structures all his techniques and strategies with the welfare of the horse in mind.
The 300 pages in this book cover a huge range of topics. Always the philosopher, Mr. de Kunffy writes in thick yet imaginative language, provoking just the right mental pictures. Everything is covered from the rider's seat to competition preparation. You will gain a greater, fuller understanding of correct seat and aids, correct flexion of the horse, lateral work, improving the basic gaits, and further schooling to higher level dressage. He also discusses various equipment and their uses.
This is an extremely valuable guide to any serious rider. Beware, though, that it's not for a beginner.
Great Book on Dressage.......2000-03-31
The author demonstrates clearly his love for horses and the art of dressage. He emphasizes the fundamentals of good riding: a good seat and hence quiet giving hands. This is not really a 'how-to' book, but then no book on riding really can be, because riding is not something mechanical. I enjoyed reading this book, even though the text is quite repetitive at times. It made me newly aware of aspects of my riding, and I have been riding dressage for more than 20 years!
MUST BUY if you own a horse!!!.......1999-08-08
This book tells you how to get the best results out of your horse. It has so much vital information if you want to become a good dressage rider or just in general riding. If you love horses and want to ride your horse with the most humane and loving way this book is for you!! I admire the author's love, dedication and respect for horses and there well being.
Too Much Theory and "Shoulds".......1999-07-26
Although I agree that the author advocates a thoughtful and gentle approach to riding which is to be commended, as a novice to dressage I found the information hard to put to use. There is much digression into theory during explanation of the aids for various movements. I didn't find it helpful to hear how, for example, the perfect half-pass "should" be done. I was hoping to be told what EXACTLY to do with my aids, what to avoid and how best to present this movement to my horse, as clearly as possible and without a lot of "pie-in-sky" wishful thinking. I agree with the reviewer from Charlotte that this book is not for beginners. If anyone thinks I am off the mark, please let me know - otherwise I will return this book.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful garden diary.......2000-07-03
I love this book and was disappointed to see that it is out of print. I logged on with the intention of buying a copy as a gift for a friend who has discovered gardening - and to get an additional copy to take me to 2006.
I love the layout that allows for maximum flexibility and the thoughtful prompting of categories.
This makes a great personal garden diary and a wonderful gift idea.
A beautiful 5 year diary of your garden.......1999-12-17
A wonderful journal to track the progress of your garden. Useful for long-term gardeners and those who are just starting to learn. The pages are layed out so 5 years show on a 2page spread, sections for week 1 of january, week 2 of january, etc. Categories you can fill in include weather, flowers(what was blooming when), shrubs & trees, lawns, vegetables & fruit (when did you plant tomatoes last year? ), greenhouse, and a section for notes. There is room for putting down basic information - this isn't a book for writing down detailed information. It is a reference to use morelike a calendar (when was the first hard freeze in previous years? ) A great book. I haven't been able to find another one like it.
A simple but elegant garden diary for five years.......1999-03-16
Having previously used The Royal Horticultural Society Gardener's Five Year Record Book (now out-of-print), we were delighted with this journal. It is nicely bound with a ribbon to tie it closed. It is divided by weeks, so that one can see "August, Week 1" on 2 facing pages. Prompts for Weather, Bulbs and Flowers, Shrubs and Trees, etc. are listed down the left side. Five columns (for each year) with blank lined spaces are spread across 2 pages. Having used this type of journal before, we have enjoyed seeing what we experienced in weather and blooming in previous years. It is also helpful to remember what was planted. Nice photography and seasonal illustrations throughout. Appendices includes places for yearly summaries, lists of suppliers, notes, etc. A clever envelope holding gridded paper for planting plans is glued inside the back cover. Everyone to whom we've shown this book has exclaimed over it.

Book Description
This study shows that the Ecclesiazusae is an affirmation of the importance of persuasion in the fourth- century democracy. ; Praxagora, the attractive and articulate female protagonist, virtually personifies peitho, the realm of both political persuasion and erotic seduction. The ability of peitho to address both public and private motivations makes it the perfect instrument to resolve the tension in the fourth century between selfishness and civic participation. This is, after all, the central issue in the later episodes of the play.
