Don't Buy It.......2006-09-02

#1 Your first step should never be "long". If you extend your feet beyond your knee your using your hamstring to pull yourself forward. If you keep your first step shorter, you push off the ball off your foot, and you activate your glutes which is much more explosive.

#2 Shouldn't use bands. As the resistance increases, the speed of contraction decreases as the strain on the joint increases. This will lead to an injury. Also they are inneffective at developing fast twich fibers, which require acceleration throughout the movement.

I reccomend "52 week Basketball Training" and "Athletic Body In Balance" if you want to design a succesful training regimine. [..]

Clever........2007-03-07

Do you find yourself at a loss for "cocktail chatter" when you attend parties as part of the "rent-a crowd"? This might help you, but I doubt it. I just can't imagine bringing up Shakespearian inventions in any social setting these days.

I won't repeat what previous reviewers have written. This is simply a clever little book that you will enjoy paging through, reading random entries, while procrastinating to do something more important. Only Shakespearian geeks will truly enjoy it; I read some of it to my highly educated wife and she seemed not interested. I love it.

A scholarly book in tune.......2002-03-11

I bought this book for myself and a copy for my granddaughter, age 13. She had played a leading role in Midsummer's Night two year's ago at her St. Paul elementary school. The experience won her over to Shakespeare. Since I didn't start reading Shakespeare before age 18, I wondered if Coined by Shakespeare would be too far out-of-tune with the romance novels that she was devouring. Well, I've read it now. It is a dandy. A real banger, as Hardy would put it. Rarely does a scholarly book meet the needs of anyone less versed than a PhD. This book, I'm making wager, will charm a 13 year old word lover. We just finished a Minnesota blizzard. I'm tickled that Shakespeare coined "gust."

A little Shakespeare dictionary.......2000-03-24

This little book (from Merriam Webster, the big dictionary people) is definitely fun. It is part of a series about how words have been used in different times and places. This volume concentrates on the words "invented" by Shakespeare - the authors estimate that there are in the vicinity of 1,500 such words and this book probably includes a couple hundred examples. Admittedly, there is lots of room for judgement here and sometimes the authors note that, but many times they state theories as fact. This tendency keeps my rating below five stars. The book is organized with a chapter for each letter of the alphabet - and a Shakespeare trivia quiz at the end of each chapter. Again, fun, but beware of theories - on the other hand, maybe one of these questions will make it to "Do You Want To Be A Millionaire?". It is not a book for reading straight through, but it is perfect to fill short periods here and there that keep you waiting. You will be amazed at the words included such as ADVERTISING, ALLIGATOR, INVESTMENT, OBSCENE, PUKE, PUPPY DOG and ZANY. There are also some examples that you probably won't recognize. The text gives sites for the usage in Shakespeare's plays. If you are interested enough in this subject to have made it to the end of this review, then buy it, its worth the price.

Better Books Out There.......2004-09-23

I was disappointed in this book. It barely touched on some important topics. I would strongly suggest buying "Dachshunds for Dummies" instead.

Dachshund for Dummies.......2002-03-27

I just recently had a medical emergency with my Dachshund. She woke up and I noticed that she was dragging her back leg, I knew immediately what was wrong and took her to the vet within an hour of noticing it. Within 8 hours she could not stand on either leg and I had to rush her to a big Vet Hospital, they did surgery on her that same night. Back problems in dachshunds are common and if I had not read a lot of books on the subject I would not have know. I found this book very well written and very informative, the way they explained everything about their backs in depth. I would recommend this book very highly and plan on purchasing it for all the people who purchased her puppies, a MUST FOR ANY DACHSHUND OWNER.

As a recent owner of Dachshunds (a male and two females)with the intent to breed each female at least once, this was one of the most informant books I have read. There are lots of good books available, but I found this to have most of the information under one cover.

Florence/Sienna map.......2007-03-17

The Rough Guide map of Florence and Sienna was easy to use. I could fold it anyway I wanted and when finished, fold it back to its original position. Rain made no impact. After lots of use, it still looks brand new.

Great map.......2006-08-06

This was the best map of Florence for our trip. It's waterproof and rip proof. The sleeve it comes in is also really helpful to carry it around in your bag or pocket. I used it in conjunction with the Florence and Tuscany (Eyewitness Travel Guides) and was extremely satisfied with both.

After using the excellent Rough Guide map of Barcelona, I purchase
Rough Guide maps when ever they are published for my destination. What I love
about these maps is that they are complete, accurate and very
tough. You can carry them around in your pocket, bend them and
sweat on them and they still remain as usable as ever.

This map has Florence on one side and Siena on the other (there
is a certain historical elegance for this choice). I did not
get a chance to test the map in Florence, but I did use it
during the five days I spent in Siena in April of 2006.

Siena, which competed with Florence for centuries, was finally
crushed by Florence and it took centuries for the city to recover.
As a result, Siena never developed the way Florence did and
much of the character of the old city remains, including the
original walls and the twisty streets with four or five story
brick buildings. This gives the streets of Siena the feeling
of a maze, since you can rarely see landmarks like the Siena
Duomo (cathedral). I constantly found myself going the wrong
direction. Even though Siena is small, I constantly used the
Rough Guide map while I was there.

This is an excellent reference book for young readers. Each section addresses specific types of weapons, providing a wide variety of color and black-and-white illustrations and multiple examples from around the world. Additional sections of the book also address armor, shields, siege weapons, fortresses, etc., and the combination of text and images provide very good, although brief reference information. You could do much worse for an easy reference on pre-gunpowder weapons. This is a great book.
