I purchased the Illustrated History of the New York Giants for my husband, a big fan, I never know what to get him but this gift was a huge hit, he loves the book. Thank you.

Poor job by publisher.......2005-12-29

Decent book and well researched by author. Although, as a big Giants fan that has read most available books on the team's history, there was very little new information to be found here. However, many will find the book to be a good overview of the team, its glorious successes and ridiculous failures.

My BIG complaint is that the overall quality of the photos in this book is horrendous. When you consider that this is an "illustrated history" packed with photos, this is a monumental oversight by the publisher. The typical photo looks like it was mimeographed from an old newspaper. I don't mind blurry photos from the 1920's and 30's. However, in this book, even the photos from the 1980's and 90's are so dark and out of focus, that it is impossible to excuse. When I came accross a sideline photo where I could not differentiate Mark Bavaro from Harry Carson (if not for the numbers on their jerseys), I finally gave up.

Whoever produced this book should be embarrassed by the pathetic effort.

Not for Spelling Only.......2000-03-27

I am a medical transcriptionist and not only need to be able to spell medical terms but also need to know how medical terms relate contextually to what I am typing. What I liked about Stedman's is the in-depth illustrations...for instance, nerves, skeleton, muscular structure. If I know the word is a kind of nerve but cannot quite understand the doctor, I can look at these illustrations, read over the names and then listen again with a better knowledge of what I am listening for. Also, Stedman's has a unique feature which I use all the time. Under "disease", there are listed many types of diseases. Under "test", there are listed the names of many standard medical tests that are given. This book is invaluable to my work!

Creativity in Hard Tmes.......2002-01-20

A wonderful book of Works Progress Administration posters. Only about two thousand of these survive from the millions printed and 280 are shown in color. They are not posters in the billboard size that everyone is familiar with but mostly small twenty-two by fourteen inches, quickly designed and printed by silkscreen.

Because they were easy and cheap to produce any government or civic department could use the medium, from the New York Foreign Trade Zone, the Seattle Children's Theatre to Stop the Spread of Syphilis, the design styles are just as varied from the whimsical to the stark graphic statement.

Author DeNoon has done his research and explains how the WPA poster division worked, other contributors provide more extra detail. The back of the book has a Portfolio of eight artists. The work of the WPA ended in 1943 and fifteen of their war posters are shown. If you want to follow the story have a look at 'Dig for Victory' by William Bird and Harry Rubenstein, this informative book has 150 posters designed for the Home Front.

Social historians and graphic artists will enjoy 'Posters of the WPA' and incidentally I would suggest that anyone interested in book design gets a copy. The book (designed by Henry Vizcara) is an excellent example of how a graphic visual book should look, the grid design, column widths, typography of the headlines, text and captions, use of white space, paper and printing all work together to produce this lovely book.

Great overview of a subject that deserves more attention.......2000-06-06

This book is great for the WPA expert or for the novice like myself. The body of work represented in the book opens your eyes to a subject matter that seems largely overlooked as serious art. Nevertheless, the volume of work produced during this period and the number of people reached by this work is truly amazing.

Not the book I thought it would be.......2002-07-22

I just rescued a Japanese Chin from the Humane Society, and wanted some info on some quirks of the breed, personality traits, best ways to feed and care for a Chin, etc. This book is ONLY for people who want to have a show dog. It gives some of the history of the breed, grooming tips, how to select the best show dog, and also some tips on judging. Nothing at all about the best food/toys to buy ... if you happen to just want a pet. Not only that, the description did not make it clear that this book is published in and intended for England, so those of us in the colonies don't have much use for the specifics anyway.

I'm very disappointed! This costs too much to be so [disappointing]!

A very good book. 11 chapter 145 pages. Discusses the history of the breed who's who in the fancy, choosing, grooming, selecting puppy, the standard, judging, breeding.

This book is a must for anyone interested in learning about Japanese Chin. The best book ever written on the breed for history, care, how to purchase a puppy and general education. Lovely color pictures!

This book had everything on the Japanese Chin. They showed the breeds origin and background. They showed what a Japanese Chin should look like if you want it to be a show dog. They had pictures of how to groom it also.

complete guide to sporting collectibles.......2000-09-19

First of all the word complete does not belong on the cover of this book. I think that this book is a perfect example of someone trying to do everything but ends up not doing anything well. There are books dedicated to subjects such as guns, knives and decoys, which could have been left out of this book. I think chapter 14 is a good example this chapter tries to cover cartridges, shotshells,and powder cans and kegs. There no descriptions, or pictures and it barely touches on each subject. If i had to describe this book in one word it would be disappointing, I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Take this great little book along with you to the next church yard sale, estate sale, or flea market, and you may find yourself going home with a unique fishing lure, an old Orvis rod, or a box of old shotgun shells-without paying too hefty a price. Great descriptions; great pictures. I keep it by the bedside for quick reads. Highly recommended by an old duck hunter and his black labs.
