Analytical Nahuatl Dictionary.......2004-12-10
This dictionary has 350 pages of excellent, well-documented Nahuatl entries, as well as an introductory chapter on orthographies and the basic elements of Nahuatl grammar. What it doesn't have is an English-Nahuatl index, so the dictionary will be much more useful to you if you are already familiar with Nahuatl, plan to use the book to read Nahuatl texts, or have a linguistic interest. If you're trying to learn the language, you may want to check out ISBN#0781810116 or ISBN#0806134526.
Great help for my linguistics research!.......2000-04-17
I found this analytical dictionary very well done and accessible. What is more, it was of great help in my research for my linguistics analysis class, in which we studied Nahuatl in an exercise. I recommend this book to whoever would like to learn more about this language, and also to linguists.

Nice, easy-to-use collection of copyright-free clip art........2004-07-27
If you're looking for a selection of copyright-free clip art images to use for websites, posters, flyers, or other projects, this is a nice collection. All the images are done in a stencil motif, and encompass a variety of subjects, including floral designs, animals, southwestern and Native American patterns, Oriental designs, Egyptian designs, Celtic designs and knotwork, Christmas and other holidays, fruits and vegetables, maritime images, fairy tale characters, and carousel horses. There are 902 black-and-white images in total, useable with either Windows or Macintosh. The graphics are all quite large on the CD-ROM, so you can re-size them in any graphics program to whatever dimensions you need. They are all available in GIF, JPG, BMP, PICT, TIF, and WMF formats, saved at 600 DPI. The book itself contains a preview of every image, each accompanied by the image number, so you can easily find the one you want on the CD-ROM. The CD fits into a plastic sleeve on the inside back cover of the book for safekeeping. I have used clip art from this and other Dover Clip Art books on numerous occasions, and have been quite happy with it.

LapDog Therapy explains how a dog becomes a therapy dog, what a therapy dog does, and what benefits a therapy dog offers to senior citizens in healthcare/retirement facilities.
Customer Reviews:
Micky's SO Inspiring!.......2005-09-29
It's a cute concept - to have a little Boston Terrior tell us all we need to know about pet therapy. Mickey is an engaging narrator and I enjoyed reading his story. But this book offers lots, lots more than entertainment. It lets you see from the ground up what it's like for a dog and his owner to train and work as a pet therapy team.
This book answers many questions I've had about pet therapy. What kind of dogs can do it? What does pet therapy involve? How do you and your dog train and qualify for being in such a program? Where can I find resources about pet therapy? How do the folks who have the pets visit benefit?
All these questions, and most of all the last, are answered in a very satisfying, accessible fashion. _Lapdog Therapy_ is very inspiring as it demonstrates with words, photographs and beautiful watercolours how Mickey and Winnie make a difference to the folks at a retirement community near their house. Therapy dogs are needed and loved for many reasons and in many ways by the older people pictured and described in this book. (I must note that I was very happy with the respectful way the folks in the retirement home were presented.)
At the end of the story, there are dozens of resources (most of which can be contacted by email).
Thank you, Mickey! My mastiffs can never do "lapdog therapy" (except maybe for the Jolly Green Giant), but I see they and I could qualify to do pet therapy.
Worthwhile & Entertaining Read.......2003-03-12
Canine author and therapy dog Mickey offers a furry-fresh perspective on animal-assisted activities in his book LapDog Therapy. An educational and entertaining read for anyone who is - or wants to be - involved in this rewarding world of human-animal interaction.
An added benefit for Canadian readers is the inclusion of Canadian contact information in the well laid-out reference section.

Unbelievable range of openers & comprehensive.......2000-03-17
I have really studied this book over the past 6 months and I believe that anyone who purchases it will find the information great for identification and for general knowledge. This book also has had me branch out into different areas of bottle openers and into Corkscrews ! , Great Job to the Authors, John Stanley and Donald Bull.
Superb information and all coloured pictures, well done.......1999-09-26
As I collect bottle openers in general, this book was an exciting way to find out what the openers I had were worth, and to see what other varieties of my openers there is available, it is very well set out and has clear and all coloured pictures, I would have liked to see more on cast iron bottle openers, but that is just me I suppose.

Thought provoking and inspiring!.......2007-05-16
Have you seen a garden and loved it but perhaps couldn't quite explain what made it special? Have you been in your own garden and felt it needed "something" but didn't know what that something was?
I bought this book because it was recommended by a friend. Once I got it home, I read it and re-read it. Besides beautiful photos, this book is about garden design, especially regarding focal points. It's wonderful information presented in a way that is easy to understand. Once I read this book, which I still refer to often, I look at my own garden in different ways. It's seems like a discovery of a garden secret. It can take your garden to a higher level of enjoyment.

Poor Pictures.......2007-05-07
I had expected to see a walk through of home design color picture inside the book. But it just had one home in color (5 pages) and the rest of the 250 pages had just black and white exterior home designs and layout.
I would suggest in your selection process for a internet buyer to give a brief of the book, not just by the looks of the cover. In fact the introduction states interior and exterior. Some of the previous books I purchased had a walk through of each home, I mean the interior of the sitting, bedroom, kithcen etc etc... Not really usefull after my purchase, this applies to two other books as well I bought along with this order, "Two-Story Homes" Second Edition and "Europeon Dream Homes" Second Edition.
Book Description
For any gardener who is unsure of what to grow or how to put plants together in coherent planting schemes, this book provides answers. Many of the garden plans and plantings included are simplified versions of those created by great gardeners such as Vita Sackville-West, Margery Fish, and Piet Oudolf. The author's extensive knowledge of period plants, and how they were put together to look beautiful, has enabled him to re-create historical classics, like the Renaissance parterre or the Monet water garden, from contemporary planting lists and plans. Each garden is given a brief historical context, and its best qualities, seasons, and times of day are explained. Planting plans are given for each scheme, together with a shopping list that can be taken to a nursery. The book includes suggestions for adapting each plan to the limitations of a given space, and how to adapt the shopping list as well. Classic Garden Plans will be invaluable to any gardener who wants to design a garden with powerful historical associations, filled with authentic plants.
Customer Reviews:
Paradise, complete with apples.......2007-06-15
I think it was the apples that did it for me. There are 48 types of roses, 12 types of irises, 11 types of magnolias, 11 types of waterlilies and 9 types of tulips in Stuart's "shopping lists." But the apples? "Beauty of Bath," "Lord Derby," "Cox's Orange Pippin," and "Stirling Castle" are just too delicious to pass up. And what about classic garden plans? If Hidcote Manor, Sissinghurst Castle, Barnsley House and Ashton Wold are not enough, Stuart takes us on a grand tour of everything from the Nanzenji Garden in Japan to a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Pasadena, California, stopping along the way at Giverny, France, for a look at Monet's water garden. He also examines the works of some individual garden makers like Gertrude Jekyll and William Robinson. Richly illustrated with crystal-clear photographs and luscious watercolor sketches, Stuart's book is a welcome addition to any garden-lover's collection.
A good addition to any gardening library.......2007-05-05
As a professional garden consultant and designer, I frequently refer to this book and often show it to clients to help visualize and clarify what they are after for their own gardens. The classic gardens are mostly grand in size, and the plans based on them are not copies, or even miniatures, but interpretations--all scaled to a level site about 40 x 60 feet in size, in a "cool temperate" climate. The descriptions of the original gardens explain important elements without going into exhaustive detail: for example, the description of the Chinese Scholar's Garden mentions architectural elements and traditional plant combinations that are significant to the Chinese. Sometimes a client expresses the wish for a "Japanese" or "English" or other kind of garden, and what they really want is the idea, not a slavish copy. Anything that helps locate the core of the idea is invaluable, and "Classic Garden Plans" has been one of my best resources.
diverse.......2005-08-09
The book gives good examples of landscaping styles! A great resource if you are planning a classic garden.
plans for all types of gardens with accompanying photos.......2004-10-29
Color plans of 16 noteworthy and in some cases famous gardens from around the world are filled in with the plants in particular spots, and in many cases the pools, stonework, and other features of them. These plans are complemented by luxurious color photos of the plants in bloom. Stuart's work is not only to highlight the classic gardens, but to aid gardeners in recreating them. Most of the gardens are seen as meeting some purpose of their creators. A Japanese garden is meant to offer surroundings for meditation; an Indian garden is for the concubines of a Hindu emperor; Monet's water garden in France was a place for him to paint and to find inspiration and solace toward the end of his life. A herb garden and an orchard are also included. The oversize "Classic Garden Plans" serves as a guide for garden design or a gift to a garden enthusiast. Stuart is a Scotman with a background in botany and writing who has done previous books on plants in history.

Book Description
This story is of a brown-skin girl born in Honduras into a difficult family situation and raised by her grandmother in British Honduras, now Belize. The author tells of her youth, filled with travel in Central America, and of a voyage to the United States at age nine on a banana boat. Throughout the memoir, the author returns to the philosophical differences between the people of Central America and those of the United States. The eventful history of the author's extended family is interwoven into these events. In her late teens, she escapes marriage to an Anglican priest by leaving for the United Kingdom to study nursing. This book relates several stories at once. It is a travelogue that touches on the history of different countries. It is a social commentary. And it is a family history. The story concludes with her arrival in the United States.
Customer Reviews:
A Coming-of-Age Story From Belize.......2003-07-13
When I saw the cover of this book, I was immediately captured by the subject matter. The author's picture reminded of someone I knew who also grew up in Belize.
Sandra Crough felt the sting of rejection and pity because she had no mother. Her married mother conceived her with a man that was not her husband and then left her with his mother to raise the child. "Why she no want me?" is her constant question to her grandmother. She is a brown-skinned gyal, a combination of the blending of the Spanish, Indian and African blood of Cental America. British Honduras, renamed Belize, is the only English speaking country in Central America. Sandra was born in Catholic Spanish Honduras where her father works for an American firm. She is taken to Belize where her Anglican grandmother sends her to Catholic school. She sees her mother, who now has other children, periodically, and spends some holidays with her father. She never feels any familial bond with either of them; they are both cold to her.
Sandra completes school and is fortunate to escape a legacy of marrying young and gets the opportunity to go to London to study nursing where she meets students from other countries and fall in love with an English young man. She then comes to the conclusion that America is where she wants to go to pursue her dreams and here is where this novella abruptly ends. Crough paints the landscape of Central America with descriptive imagery and the innocent voice of a child growing into herself. I look forward to the sequel of this story.
You can smell the sea breeze.......2003-05-06
I loved this book so much. It is a little sad in the beginning but the characters including the Grandmother had me rolling off my seat laughing so hard. I really love it! And hopefully I'll be going to Belize soon!
Smell the sea breezes!!.......2003-05-02
I love this book...you can almost smell the sea and feel the sand and seashells under your feet as you read it. This is a bittersweet story of abandonment, family, culture and love. Sandra's characters will remind you of the many faces and voices in your own family. Even though the emotions underlying each story were often heartbreaking and real, the voices of Grandma and the Auntys burst through until you are laughing yourself off your seat! This is a wonderful collection of stories that weave together to create the life history of a little girl who searched for the answers to the questions we all struggle with in life!
Great details.......2003-02-08
Her stories are well told of a young girl's transition to adulthood. However, what happened to her after coming to the U.S. Let's hope we hear more from this author.
Great Details.......2003-01-26
This writer takes the reader into the heart of the events unfolding around her. Her descriptions of Hurricane Hattie are stunning. You are there with her. She interjects humor and wit into events unfolding around her and uses commonsense.
I thoroughly enjoyed the stories. Although she gives no specific physical description of her grandmother, you see her being feisty and defiant, and her granddaughter exhibits many of her traits.
Great stories that show no resentment towards her mother or father.
Let's hope she writes a sequel. What happened after she arrived in the USA.
