Lonely Planet Delivers, As Usual.......2007-07-26
My wife and I used this book recently on a trip through Croatia and found it a very good mix of broad and deep, offering plenty of the details we needed for our stay in Split and drive down the coast towards Makarska, as well as great recommendations on what to do and where to go in general. We followed the book's advice when we went to the island of Brac (just off the coast near Split) for the day and visited a tiny little town on the far side of the island called Milna, and found it to be just amazing. Recommended.
Awesome!!.......2007-03-09
This book is a must have for anyone traveling to Coratia. It is so informative and I love it!!!!!!
A solid guide w/ mostly accurate info.......2006-12-08
I used LP Croatia side-by-side with the Rough Guide to Croatia during May and June 2006. I only visited Southern and Central Dalmatia including Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik.
LP Croatia is concise and had no serious inaccuracies but it lacked lots of the context, detail, and history that the Rough Guide provided. If you're just looking for places to go, how to get there, and where to stay I'd get LP. If you want more of a tour guide with lots of bios, background, art & architecture info, I'd take the Rough Guide. If I went again, I'd take both.
Pros: Good logistical information on how to get around and where sites were. Good food sections (burek is amazing) and good language/phrase sections(except that the most important words were all buried). Also, did a great job of explaining how the private room accommodations work. Provided good, practical advice on how to get the best rooms, etc.
Cons:
Maps were sometimes inaccurate--Rough Guide's were generally better. This was largely because of the lack of street signs and lots of small alleys that trick you. GPS would have been very useful.
Unusually, I think LP underrated some places--namely Dubrovnik.
Doesn't prioritize where to go or what to see. For instance, Diocletian's Palace in Split was covered in graffiti and the city had little to offer.
They need a section on "If you have to choose" between different sites and different cities that tells you which are the best sites overall for certain interests.
Bottom line: LP Croatia was a solid travel guide but it could have provided more advice to the first-time traveler.
Indispensable guide to Croatia.......2005-08-06
My husband and I just came back from Croatia and used this guidebook religiously for the past three weeks. We thought it was just great. All of the information was spot-on and the descriptions were amusing and accurate. The author clearly loves Croatia and offers in-depth insight into the country. We particularly liked her choice of itineraries and highlights. Traveling around Croatia is so complicated that we really needed to rely on the boat information. Here again, the book didn't let us down. We checked out a lot of guidebooks before settling on this one and we weren't sorry.
good, but has some defects.......2004-06-22
like all travel guides, you can find something that is not there in 'lonely planet croatia'... i will be traveling croatia this summer and have had the advantage of using several guidebooks in my planning... they all have their pros and cons, so a review of any of them must necessarily discuss these:
the pros: the maps and city plans are substantially better than in the competitors' guidebooks... lonely planet is one of the few cheap-o style travel guidebooks that gives you information on at least a few hotels that are not youth hostels, dives or other forms of bottom-barrel accommodation; in other words, they at least give you a few mid-range and expensive options if you wish to go that way... all the essentials are there, with great suggestions on places to sleep, eat and visit
the cons: as with ALL of the backpacker/youth travel guidebooks (LP, rough guide, let's go and company), the information on sights/monuments/museums, etc., is SEVERELY lacking... there is just the most basic of information on the history of the sights that you have gone so far to see... which makes it necessary to buy another book, pay an expensive guide or some such thing... (for instance, you will rarely read detailed descriptions of the artwork to be found in a church and are often left wandering about saying 'this is so beautiful, i wonder what it is...i wish the guidebook would tell me more!') i know this would make the guidebooks huge, but even 50% more information would be wonderful so as to have a little bit more of a grip on what you are looking at after taking a 12-hour ferry ride across the adriatic to get there!
which is why, despite its quality, i always felt the need to take another guidebook along, just in case...using my usual technique of tearing out just the pages i would need from each book

A very usefull handbook.......2007-01-09
Not too much details but if you have a little clue of what you're messing with, it will help a lot!
online manual is complete garbage.......2006-10-20
dont waste your money on the online manual version of anything seloc.
the pictures are small and dont correspond with the model that youve chosen, the info is generic and useless. "be safe when changing the spark plugs", they have a no return policy, better off to just stare at your motor and hope the answer pops into your head than to waste your money on this product.
Too General.......2006-07-05
The book tries to cover too much with little detail. The information on my 40 HP Outboard did not match the electrical or fuel system. Pay the extra money and get the service manual for your Outboard.
Good manual at a great price.......2006-06-28
This manual doesn't cover everything in finite detail but it is thorough enough that you will be able to figure out the rest. It was good enough for me to replace the water pump and seals in my 175HP Merc Lower unit with no previous experience with boat motors.
Pass on this manual.......2006-05-12
This is a nearly useless manual. It covers too many models and deals mainly with problems common to all covered engines. Not good if your large outboard needs more diagnosis than a 5hp.

The Amazing Truth About Your Dog's Health!
Most people know that good nutrition and proper supplementation together with a healthy dose of exercise are the foundation for good human health. But did you know that the very same is true for your dog? You see, a dog's body is surprisingly similar to a human's in both function and dietary need. Would you eat chemically produced food low in nutrients and high in preservatives as your main diet? Of course you wouldn't! Then why should your dog?
Dr. Earl Mindell and
Elizabeth Renaghan have compiled years of studies and observations to bring you the most up-to-date reference guide ever on how best to care for your dog. With topics ranging from nutrition to health, inside you'll find out:
·How to supplement your dog's diet with the proper amounts of vitamins and minerals
·How to apply proven natural remedies to your dog to avoid unnecessary (and expensive) trips to the vet
·How to rid your house and your pet of fleas — naturally
·How to treat and protect your dog from common ailments and diseases
·And much, much more!
Add years to your dog's life! With this book it's easy to care for your best friend the way he deserves to be cared for.
Title includes detailed listings of the most common illnesses for each breed.
Amazon.com
Just like humans, dogs require exercise and proper nutrition to keep them in top physical form. While most of us are pretty good at giving our pets plenty of exercise, we don't have the slightest idea what constitutes good nutrition for dogs. Earl Mindell's Nutrition and Health for Dogs is the perfect antidote, providing everything responsible dog owners need to know about their dogs' nutritional needs.
Mindell, author of Earl Mindell's Herb Bible and Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible, offers a clear, concise, and easy-to-read guide to the dos and don'ts of dog nutrition, beginning with a general overview of canine nutritional needs. This covers such topics as water quality, fresh foods, and the inadequacy of most commercial dog food. The sections on vitamins and minerals feature nicely laid-out charts explaining the importance of each element, the foods that contain it, and how to tell if your dog is getting too much or too little. The rest of the book examines more specific aspects of canine health, including your dog's immune system, natural flea control, and common diseases and their treatments. The section on breed-specific problems is especially useful to prospective dog owners, alphabetically listing genetic defects as well as ailments that might arise from various environmental/dietary factors. With its clear, logical layout, handy graphs, and glossary, Earl Mindell's Nutrition and Health for Dogs will help you add years of healthy and happy living to your dog's life.
Customer Reviews:
Great breakdown of vitamin quantity for dog.......2002-06-11
My dog was diagnosed with cancer. As I grew up with him and love him very much,..I read every book I could find on cancer. It's important for me to strengthen his immune system. With all of my homemade dog food, dog vitamins, shark cartilage, flax seed oil, vitamin C pills,..etc. I found it extremely helpful to have a book that informed me of the correct amounts of vitamins and such for a small dog. This is very important as no other book I found had this for dogs. The main negative I saw in this book was having so much of it dedicated to listing many dog breeds and the health problems that are common to them. Somehow I though this could have been more concise(like a chart with a check next to the breed that corresponded to the ailment),..and my one dog only fit into one breed(and had none of the problems listed for the breed,..though I could see where it could help someone in looking for a new dog, or in planning what to expect and watch for..),..so the weight and cost of the book contained a large percentage(1/2 the book) of what didn't apply to my dog. But, the rest of the book is so valuable. I break down human vitamins into the amounts recommended by him(if you do this be careful of hidden ingredients,.. or vitamin E repeats etc.). Great book to have and follow for any dog owner.
Nutrition & Health for Dogs.......2001-07-05
I must have about 20 books on dog care, health, nutrition, etc and this book is one of the most practical so far. I would highly recommend this as a must have for any dog owner. It covers nutrition but also vaccinations, fle treatments, common conditions in dogs and nutritional support. This is a concise, easy to read book with information that you can really use whether you feed your pet commerical or homemade diet.
Informative, some flaws.......2000-02-12
I originally read this book so I could get a recipe to make dog treats. However, I found myself drawn into the other chapters on flea control and nutrition.
While I would not go so far as following a vitamin regime or homeopathic treatment for dogs (I don't even do that for myself!) I found the information on the content of "average" dog food, treats and flea control very helpful in making consumer decisions.
I would agree with a previous review that Mindell does depend heavily on human physiology for his nutritional and medical advice for dogs. He also tends to be a bit "preachy" in his commentary on canine health.
However, commonly reported scientific studies on canine nutrition is lacking and none of the human-based nutrition regimes he presents would hurt a dog (only be a bit more expensive and/or time consuming.)So why not err on the safe side?
Moreover, I have had regular vets (non-hollistic)recommend some of the flea treatments he suggests; so something must be working.
When you discover the shocking ingredients in dog food and flea control you'll be glad you read the book and were offered some alternatives.
Oh, and my dogs absolutely loved the treats!
A good synopsis of canine vitamin/mineral requirements........1999-11-05
Ordinarily I would not provide a review, however, I am aghast at the only review you have on this website that was provided anonymously. It seems that they were not sufficiently confident in their convictions to even identify themselves!
This book is not intended to provide herbal remedies for dogs. It is a simple no nonsense approach to providing the reader a basic understanding of the nutritional needs of dogs. It starts out with a good description of the problems with commercial foods and some good reasoning for preparing your own dog's meals. It then provides the basics of what dogs will need in terms of nutrients. It also provides some good advice about more natural approaches to combating fleas. He obviously believes in giving dogs the basics for a strong immune system which will help to stave away many ailments that might be linked to poor commercial nutrition.
This should not be the only or the first book you buy when looking into canine nutrition, but, it is certainly a valuable tool to make part of your library.
Dubious factual content, not particularly useful.......1999-07-23
Earl Mindell has written several books on herbs and herbal remedies, unfortunately this latest contribution shares many of their faults. The authors do not specify which portion of the plant is used for many remedies and very little research is presented to support their use. Through out the book I had the sinking feeling that there had not been enough thought given to how dog physiology differs from human physiology. The skeptical reader may want to check out the quackwatch website for more information on Mr. Mindell's other books.

This volume is illustrated with photographs of 50 baskets and related items such as trays, hats, and fish traps, as well as numerous images--both historical and contemporary--of baskets in daily use.
Book Description
One of the most creative gardening guides on the market! Years of experience answering questions on what to grow in problem sites -- plus an impressive career at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and Arboretum and plenty of practice in his own garden -- make Roy Lancaster one of the best-qualified writers to advise on which plants to grow where. Perfect Plant Perfect Place is an invaluable, updated compilation of Roy's best-selling titles What Plant Where, What Perennial Where, and What Houseplant Where. It recommends plants for every situation, both in the garden and in the home. In each section, such as "Soil & Exposure," "Location," "Shrubs," and "Perennials," he takes different sites or conditions and offers an inspired selection of suitable plants. He also considers desired effects -- perhaps planting to attract butterflies, or for autumn colors -- and lists his choice for achieving these. Plant suggestions are illustrated with magnificent color photographs, supported by notes on the plant's special features and size, hardiness, and light and soil requirements -- in short, all the facts you need to guarantee the perfect choice.

Super Useful.......2007-04-02
Because of this book, it gave my husband and I the direction and education to create the best yard in the neighborhood. While more detail would be nice, it is the best starting point for those who have no clue what they are doing or where to start, like me. I feel like an expert now.
This is a terrific book!!.......2003-12-13
This is a terrific book!! I bought this for my husband a year ago, when he first decided to embark on raising exotic house plants. We both love the book & still refer to it often. When we are redesigning a room, it also is a great reference for plant planning. This one is a must have for indoor & outdoor gardeners!!
Perfect Book.......2003-08-07
This is the most useful gardening book ever. Cross-referenced by soil, color and type, this is the one gardening book to select plants and trees. A minor caveat; I wish he had included more American common plant names. I wish Lancaster would write a similiar book on trees alone.
A plant for EVERY place!.......2003-05-15
What's useful about this book is that it addresses many common siting problems for outdoor and indoor gardeners, alike: light (or lack of it) and moisture (or dryness), and various combinations of these; pollution issues; plants suitable for particular garden "jobs" such as screening, ground cover, or containers; perennials with a long flowering season or low allergens. There are also sections that address specific "shopping lists": shrubs with fragrant leaves or ornamental fruit; climbers with fragrant flowers; various kinds of bamboos -- and so much more. Although about three-fourths of the book addresses outdoor plants, a hundred pages or more are devoted to houseplants in categories such as: houseplants for beginners; plants tolerant of neglect; herbs for growing indoors; unusual foliage; orchids; and much, much more.
The photographs are numerous, colorful, and large enough to display useful detail. Annotations about each plant (and cross references for other suitable plants, which may be listed in other categories) provide enough information to get started: zone, size, light requirements.
Although one might quibble a little about whether information might have a bit more depth in places, this book is an indispensable guide simply because no other reference approaches its scope. In addition, as a DK book, it is put together in a way that can accept the inevitable flipping through (you will not be able to avoid simply browsing, believe me) as well as the harder work to which reference books are always put. It's a book to use and enjoy.
Covers a diversity of subjects.......2002-07-11
Perfect Plant Perfect Place by horticultural expert Roy Lancaster is a simply magnificent, detailed, and user friendly "how to" guide to gardening that positively overflows with more than 1800 vibrant color photographs. Packed from cover to cover with descriptions of and basic care instructions for recommended plants for indoor or outdoor gardening, Perfect Plant Perfect Place is the ideal book for beginning to intermediate gardeners seeking to select just the right species of beauty to best decorate a home, lawn, or greenhouse. A most thorough, practical and enjoyable presentation, Perfect Plant Perfect Place covers a diversity of subjects from acidic soil, raised beds, plants for paved areas, and herbs in the kitchen, to rock garden bulbs, aquatic plants, containers in the sun, and urban back yards. If you can have access to only one gardening guide, make it Roy Lancaster's Perfect Plant Perfect Place.

Handy Companion.......2006-12-17
The book served as a useful companion on my trip to Vermont in October 2006.
It helped me do the groundwork which turned out be a great time saver .
It seems that the book needs editing as some of the landmarks appear to have changed.I would like more details to help locate Farms around Woodstock which is one of the prime reasons photographers travel to Vermont.
Another thing which adds to the difficulty is that you are mostly driving on back roads which are not be very clearly marked .
The complete reference to photographing Vermont.......2005-01-17
Say you decide to do photography in Vermont and you dont know where to start. Dont look furthur. This books will save you tons of time. I used this book to chart my 6 day trip. It worked out great and I am so happy that such a book exists. The book can help you to plan your entire trip. The only think I found was it dint have a lot of hidden road information. If the author can add that it would be great. I had to pick that up from the Vermon Fall Forums on the internet. I got the other book describing Maine and now I am planning to get the oregon one. I hope the author will have one out for Alaska and other states.
This is a great book.......2004-01-02
If you enjoy photography, especially in Vermont, then this is the book for you. I have enjoyed Mr. Middleton's photographs in Vermont Life and found the photos in this book to be even more fantastic. Vermont is a beautiful place and this book will tell you the best spots and the perfect times in which to photograph there. If you need further inspiration take a look at the authors Nature of Vermont, which is an exceptional book as well.

Book Description
Here is a love story of two Asian-born Americans, Kedar Bryan and Fran Lampe. Kedar's work took them all over the Far East. Two of their three children were born in Shanghai; they moved forty-two times, three of which were evacuations.
They viewed the challenges of adjusting to different languages and cultures, finding new schools, doctors, and dentists, as a grand adventure.
Fran faced the struggle of living with her husband's alcoholism without the support available in the States. Denial and keeping up appearances was the name of the game, but finally came recovery and restoration of a love stronger than ever.
While they were living in Saigon, doctors discovered that Kedar had lung cancer. Devastating as it was, denial took over again as Fran clung to the hope that the next "miracle cure" would save his life. But it didn't happen.
Mourning, leaning into the pain, and finally finding restoration--that life is good as it is given--became Fran's journey to a new life of freedom and joy.
Everywhere, whether living in the best of circumstances or in the depth of despair, God was there. She knew His faithfulness.
