Book Description
This book is about preserving and improving the livelihood of pastoral communities in northern and north western China. The focus is on sheep and wool; on people who raise the sheep, especially minority nationalities; and on degradation of the rangelands on which the animals and ultimately the herdsmen and their families depend. Since the book is based on extensive fieldwork spanning four and a half years, it is unique in that it presents a comprehensive picture of a remote but fascinating and increasingly important part of the world.

Customer Reviews:
Let's Go Series....always a good buy.......2007-07-20
I bought this book because I had a class assignment but I also bought it because when I lived in Spain years ago, I actually used an older version to get me by.
The Let's Go Series is so amazingly on point in Europe which is the only place I'ver tried it so far (Germany, Spain, France, etc)
I'll be using it next in Brazil. It's so much more in depth and accurate and enjoyable than most of the other travel guides.
If you're going anywhere in the world, definitely pick up one of the Let's Go series
For those traveling on the cheap.......2006-03-13
I read the reviews for the previous edition of the Let's Go Spain & Portugal book, so I was expecting a book with recommendations that might not always live up to my traveling standards. And that's what I got.
I still give this book 4 stars because it does a great job of suggesting inexpensive places, but sometimes you really do get what you pay for! For the record, I generally travel pretty cheaply and don't mind minimalistic accomodations as long as they are clean. These were generally that, but the bathrooms were often the downfall.
If you're 18-25, this is the perfect book. Many of the suggestions for accomodations and things to do are geared toward younger people who may not have as much money to spend.
If you're 26-40, this is a good book if you like to save money. When looking at accomodations, pay attention to the cost ratings (1-5) and you'll probably want to shoot for the 3-5 rating to get a place that's up to par and still inexpensive. For example, we stayed at the top recommended place in Sevilla and it was insanely cheap (15 euros per person), but the bathrooms were dismal and the showers so small you couldn't possibly bend over to get your shampoo. If you don't need to shower every night, then alternate your nights (1 or 2 star one night, 3 or 4 the next) as the rooms are often better than the bathrooms at the cheap places.
If you're 41-65, you may enjoy some of the places recommended. If you enjoy saving money and don't mind having small rooms and mediocre bathrooms, you'll save a ton and you can spend it on your food!
If you're over 65, I wouldn't recommend the book. The accomodations are almost all one or two stories above ground and few with elevators. They're often in the more bustling parts of town, which can mean noisier at night.
Fado in Lisbon
We took the book's recommendation for a Fado house in Lisbon, Cafe Luso, and while the book said that it was a minimum 20 euros, 22-29 euros per plate, we found it to be an extremely expensive night out. Granted, the music was wonderful, the ambience perfect, and we didn't worry about it too much because we'd saved so much on hotels. But all told it came to 160 euros for 4 people. They charged 8 euros per bottle of water and the food was so salty that we needed two. The wine, unlike any other place we went, was 25 euros. And the minimums were complicated and we felt like we'd been had when the bill came.
They had a 7 euro "couvert" that was required. This consisted of olives, cheese, a bun, and little sausage pieces. We had become accustomed to being charged for the olives and bread/cheese that were delivered to our table (this is customary throughout Portugal), so we tried to send them back. They kept bringing new things (bread, sausages) to our table and when I questioned it, they said, "no, no, you no pay." Oh, we paid. Whether we ate it or not, we would have paid as it was a required charge in addition to the 25 euro plate minimum.
So beware the Fado house. Luso was wonderful, but if you go, go for the drink option only. The music starts very late, so go out for dinner elsewhere and then pay 15 euros for the drink option versus buying dinner there.
Things to Do
The book has a nice system of listing things to do and places to see and they include nice brief writeups about these places. We found this to be very handy and helpful and generally hit the recommended places.
Food
We didn't use the food section very often, but when we did we found the recommendations were okay, but not great. The exception was Sintra. If you go to Sintra, you must go to the Sapa store for queijadas. Everything they sold was excellent and inexpensive.
Maps
The maps were excellent and we used them often for getting us into town before we had a tourist office map to get around with. In several cases, the map in the book was better than the tourist office map. I only wish they had parking indicated on them. We were often driving into towns where we wanted to park on the outskirts and then walk to find a place to stay.
One Recommendation
Photocopy the maps. I found them to be very useful, but carting around and using the massive book was not. So if I did it again, I would definitely photocopy (and enlarge when possible) all of the maps for cities I knew I'd be visiting.
Enjoy your trip!
Book Description
The cake has been chosen, the reception hall reserved, and all the attire ordered. Creating a marriage contract is probably the last thing on your mind. However, by working with your spouse-to-be to design your particular marriage contract, you control the relationship and direct your future. What to Do Before "I Do" takes the potentially unromantic idea of a prenuptial agreement and makes you see its importance to your relationship. Proper planning will answer questions such as-
Will your child continue to be cared for in the manner you wish if you pass away?
Is your fiancé's debt your responsibility?
Can your wife claim your premarital property in a divorce? People often enter marriage with only a vague understanding of their partner's financial status. Even if you decide against a prenuptial agreement, after reading this book, you will realize how important it is to go into a marriage with your eyes wide open.

Good resource.......2007-09-12
I am a law student and have already taken a Family law class, but I learned things from this book that I hadn't learned in class (because frankly, I don't think my professor knew about them). The book doesn't teach you how to write your own prenup without an attorney, but it can help you make a list of the issues you need to discuss with an attorney, or better yet, reach a basic agreement with your fiancee before you see an attorney to draft the actual document. I disagree with the review below that says this is an uncompassionate book filled with horror stories. It's true that the book uses stories, but it uses them in context and tries to convince you that having a prenup doesn't mean that you don't love the other person. I gave the book only 4 stars because I think the sample prenup in the back of the book leaves some important issues unaddressed.
Just Look Online.......2007-08-27
Filled with horror stories. If you know these issues might be important, you know why and don't need cautionary tales. I wanted advice not "scared straight." Just look online for articles about finances and marriage--you'll get the same advice for free and without the caustic view of relationships and matrimony.

Animal Grace is an outstanding contribution to a new genre of literature that boldly asserts the profound spiritual connection many humans feel toward animals. When author Mary Lou Randour began sending money to animals-rights groups a new world opened up for her. Envelopes filled with "heart-stopping, stomach-wrenching" images started appearing in her mailbox--beaten dogs, abused laboratory animals. Finally she read Peter Singer's book Animal Liberation and began to recognize the deep kinship and responsibility she felt toward animals. Since then Randour has devoted her life to animal advocacy, and from walking this path she has come to an understanding of spiritual grace.
Randour uses her journalism skills to recount stories of wild and tame animals--how they have helped to heal human illnesses, turn child criminals into loving adults, and comforted us in times of grief. Yet Randour is more than a convincing researcher, vegetarian, and storyteller, she is also a spiritually mature writer. Each chapter supports the overriding theme of respecting interspecies connections--such as "Entering into a Spiritual Relationship with Animals," "Animals' Souls and Spiritual Lives," and "The Parallel Worlds of Human and Nonhuman Animals." This could well be the next animal-rights manifesto. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
It was only after exploring feminist theology, Jewish mysticism, and Buddhism that author Mary Lou Randour experienced transformation - through understanding and feeling responsible for other species. In this book, she urges readers to make two basic commitments: to expand their awareness of animals and to take compassionate action on behalf of animals.
As well as a call to action, this is also a book of stories about how four-legged beasts, domestic and wild, have helped people heal from illness, cope with death, and learn to love. Randour devotes several chapters to how the world's religions approach human relationships with animals, and she offers comprehensive directions on how to enter and deepen reciprocal relationships with other species.

Vegetarianism.......2004-03-13
I was disappointed in this book, having read the reviews.
It is a treatise in support of vegetarianism, anti vivisection, and animal liberation. It should be advertised as such. I was looking for more than a lecture on the spritual values of non meat eating, and animal liberation, as valuable as they are. Some occasional beautiful tiny glimpses into animal behaviour were moving, indeed, but hardly enough to warrant purchase of the volume. I think it was highly overrated by all.
Animal Grace.......2002-10-13
Psychologist Mary Lou Randour, Ph.D. gave up her private practice to devote herself fulltime to animal advocacy. Animal Grace: Entering A Spiritual Relationship With Our Fellow Creatures is her third book.
Dr. Randour says that "I learned that as we gain access to our hearts and minds, by acknowledging the ways in which we affect the lives of animals, this knowledge benefits us as much as it does the animals." She believes that humans have much to learn from non-human beings and points out that people have had animal companions since the beginning of time.
One of the most important things about animal wisdom is that it's always available to us. All we need to is become aware, which is "about deciding, learning, and acting." Once aware, we then develop compassion. Dr. Randour has found that learning about the intelligence and emotions of non-humans enables us to "overcome other distinctions, such as race, gender, nationality, and religion."
Her underlying philosophy is "ahimsa--harmlessness to all living things."
Dr. Randour includes interviews with world religious and spiritual leaders regarding their beliefs about the ways animals should be treated. She also includes numerous anecdotes describing how animals help humans with love, healing, spiritual growth, and death experiences.
"My work on behalf of animals infused me with a sense of purpose and prepared me to accept my own spiritual energy," Dr. Randour says. Animal Grace will help all readers understand how they too can enter into "reciprocal spiritual relationships" with their fellow non-humans.
Excellent book, but NOT about communicating with animals.......2002-06-12
I wasn't sure what this book was about when I bought it, even after reading the description and reviews. It kept coming up in my search for books on Animal Communication, so I thought I would check it out.It is definitely NOT about communicating with animals. For books like that, see Penelope Smith, Ted Andrews, etc.
This book was a wonderful read on how to increase our spiritual attunement/connection to animals. Animals have so much to teach us, especially by their examples. It was thought provoking and gently written.
THOUGHTFUL, INTELLIGENT--JUST WONDERFUL!.......2001-09-11
ANIMAL GRACE is a potentially life changing book. Ms. Randour approaches the topics of spirituality and the state of grace animals possess and that which can be achieved between humans and animals by not only delving deeply into the subject(s), but by addressing them from an unexpected standpoint. The standard approach is (of course) the emotional, but Ms. Randour instead makes MORE than just an emotional case, she makes an intellectual one. As a result, her arguments and points will not only touch your heart, they will (more importantly in many instances) touch your MIND. Why? Because they're LOGICAL and challenge any thinking person to stop and reconsider many things normally taken for granted. It is one thing to tug at someone's heart, but quite another to challenge someone intellectually to question their own thought process. And that is the beauty of this book, it touches the reader on so many levels: emotionally, intellectually, and finally, spiritually. Simply put: This is an amazing book, and I only wish everyone could read it. If ANIMAL GRACE does not speak to you, then I don't know if anything ever will. I was already a lover of animals and nature and believed in the spirituality of all living things before I read this book, but by the time I had finished it (less than a day after I'd started it), I had begun to question my own feelings and beliefs and have since gone from dabbling in vegetarianism, to becoming a vegetarian. Obviously, this book spoke to me very deeply, but the most amazing thing about this wonderfully written and surprisingly touching book is that it manages something few books of this kind ever do--it absolutely crushes apathy. And it manages to do so without preaching or pushing any views on the reader. Do yourself, the animals of the world, and the world itself a favor...PLEASE read this book.
Good book.......2001-04-12
I enjoyed this book. I like the exploration of practical spirituality and this book discusses the role of animals in this exploration and learning. I love the chapter "What animals can teach us about spirituality" - very good. One of my favorite thoughts in this whole book is "When we get down to the essence of spirituality, however, it is simply about love." What a wonderful concept. And if you like this idea, buy this book. You can also find concepts like this on a web site I just found, spirituality.com.
Enjoy !

Lorren Nancarrow is a San Diego TV weatherman. He has a passion for gardening. His book is extremly useful and informative for people that want to avoid pesticides and has wonderful alternatives. The book covers many tips and recepies for solutions that save money rather than using commercial products. It covers soil prep and suggestions for planting all the way to growing and pruning. Anyone that is interested in gardening needs this book in their library.

Natural gardening at its best........2000-06-16
DEAD DAISIES MAKE ME CRAZY is the third title in the Janet Taylor, Loren Nancarrow natural gardening series. This is the best of the three and is highly recommended to all gardeners.
This book will help you to control diseases and pests that plague your lawn or garden. It will show you how to mix your own organic fertilizer and food recipes. It helps you to make and use your own potting soil, compost and mulch and much more.
I've never purchased beneficial insects for my garden before because I thought the insects would just fly away. This book tells how to keep them in YOUR yard.
I give it FIVE stars.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Political activists with radical ideas often find themselves shut out of the mainstream news media. Writing Dissent: Taking Radical Ideas from the Margins to the Mainstream is designed for activists who want to take on that challenge. Based on the author's experience as a journalist, activist, and academic, this book offers insight into radical politics and mass media and then moves on to describe practical strategies for breaking into the mainstream. Illustrated by the author's own opinion columns published in daily newspapers, Writing Dissent explains how journalists work and how activists can successfully work with them.
Customer Reviews:
Writing Dissent - A guide.......2005-08-20
The author sets out very clearly how activists and in fact anyone can challenge dominant ideas within our society. He provides information and advice on how to lobby and challenge institutions. It is well-written for the general reader and shows we do not have to submit to narrow concepts. I highly recommend it for both voluntary organisations and individuals who wish to engage in activism and campaign work. Institutional ideas can be challenged as Jenson clearly demonstrates.
A manual written especially for political activists .......2004-09-11
Writing Dissent: Taking Radical ideas From The Margins To The Mainstream by Robert Jensen (Associate Professor, School of Journalism, University of Texas - Austin) is a manual written especially for political activists with radical ideas, who often find themselves excluded from mainstream news and media. Tips, tricks, and techniques for getting one's message out in the public, drawing from the author's experience as a journalist, activist, and academic. Sample, passionately charged pieces of opinionated political writing along with the author's wisdom and travails attempting to get them distributed pepper Writing Dissent as real-life examples, and the more general advice on journalistic style and how to make one's message as clear as possible resonate powerfully. A "must-read" for concerned citizens, activists, and journalists alike.
A Delightful, Readable 'How to' of Radical Journalism.......2002-06-28
Robert Jensen's recent book Writing Dissent is terse, pleasantly readable, enlightening and practical. The book is a `how to' of the kind radicals are awfully in need of. Spearheaded by intellectuals and academicians, the radicals lack works like Jensen's. Jensen shows that smart use of the mainstream media is not a proprietary enterprise of the chauvinistic Right. Radicals too can, believe it or not, use the same media to advance their cause of reason, fairness and justice.
The Right invests immense resources in preparing its warriors to exploit the media and blunt the academia through the likes of the Leadership Institute, the Pioneer Fund, the Heritage Foundation, Accuracy in Media, Accuracy in Academia, etc. Their focus is not critical thinking, profound scholarship or honest dialog, but simple exploitation of jargon, redundancy, spincraft and other tricks to win the battle. Mainstream journalism has been a major alibi in this process.
Jensen combines the rare insight of an ex-journalist, an activist and an academician to tell the inside story of mainstream journalism. What Chomsky and Herman tell us on a macroscopic scale in their propaganda model finds real world microscopic explanation in Jensen's work. Yet, the book is not big on theory, its primary focus remains actual dos and don'ts and how-tos of journalism. Several examples of journalistic pieces Jensen has written and gotten published add to the utility and power of the book.
The book is useful for anyone, though the reader is assumed to be a radical throughout. Whether you are a burgeoning activist looking for practical guidance on whether, how and where to write and publish, or an experienced intellectual looking for ways to write in simple, clear and comprehensible journalistic style, this is the book for you.
A pleasant aspect of the book is Jensen's candid style that is a reflection perhaps of his radical ideology. He forcefully claims that `any one can write' and that his success as a journalist is not due to a special gift. Journalism is a craft, and anyone can learn it.
Book Description
Since the explosion in low-budget filmmaking in the 1960s, the "independent" film scene has produced some of the most innovative and successful films of recent years, such as Easy Rider and The Blair Witch Project. But how independent is independent cinema today? And what are the artistic and economic concerns that separate it from Hollywood?
Contemporary American Independent Film is a comprehensive examination of the independent film scene. Exploring the uneasy relationship between independent films and the major studios, contributors trace the changing ideas and definitions of independent cinema, and the diversity of independent film practices. They consider the ways in which indie films are marketed and distributed, and how new technologies such as video, cable and the internet have offered new opportunities for filmmakers to produce and market independent films.
Turning to the work of key auteurs such as John Sayles and Haile Gerima, contributors ask whether independent filmmakers can also be stars, and consider how indie features like Boys Don't Cry and Shopping for Fangs address issues of gender, sexuality and ethnicity normally avoided by Hollywood.

Book Description
The book aims to give, via a collection of representative papers from the journal Environmental Politics, an overview of both the evolution and the diverse themes found in contemporary green political thought, especially as found in the industrialized nations. Accordingly, it charts the key research papers from the leading European journal of environmental politics since the early 1990s, a period in which environmental politics developed from a marginal status in society and the academy through to its current place as a mainstream intellectual consideration; in doing so the book will both trace a development of ideas and give an overview of the diverse vital considerations in the field today. Subdivided into sections on political theory, social movements, political economy and policy questions, and assisted by a contextualizing introduction, the collection deals with a set of themes that include the following: br br · The character of green political theory and its relationships with other politicaltraditions and theories, br br · the origins and dynamics of contemporary environmental politics in collective responses to particular issues, br br · the differences, similarities and practical tensions between the environmental politics of the North and that of the South, br br · the relationship of environmental politics to market economics and ecological modernization br br · the environmental aspects of distributive justice concerns at the local, national and global institutional levels br br · the roles, value and valuing of nature in green theory and institutional practice. br br As a compilation, the book operates in a unique way. It serves on one side as a compilation volume of key papers that provides a snapshot of a whole variety of issues in the field, and is thus suitable for teaching purposes, especially at postgraduate level. In addition, each section is chronologically arranged, and so an evolution of related ideas is manifest in the selection, thus making the book an ideal "one stop" purchase for those seeking to understand the development of the field of environmental politics since the start of the 1990s, especially as it has been practiced in developed nations outside the American continent.

Well-rounded lesbian media survey.......2000-07-09
This collection of critical essays dealing with the portrayal of lesbians in movies, theatre and books is intelligent and quick-witted, with a nice balance of critical styles. Of special note is Mary Wings' rereading of the DuMaurier story, "Rebecca". My only complaint is that the book tends to be a bit Brit-centric in places, especially when in the sections on theatre and short film. Overall however, well worth the time to read, and a great addition to any student of the genre.
