I just returned from five days in Santa Fe, Taos & Albuquerque. Whenever and wherever I travel I always look for the local experience. For this, this guide is fantastic!! Lesley is a real local. Frommer's Santa Fe, Taos & Albuquerque.......2006-02-17

I think this book will be more helpful after I have moved to New Mexico, using it as a guidebook. I also have the Fodar's guide to New Mexico and I found it much more interesting. It's something you can actually pick up and read for entertainment as well as information and it has wonderful color photographs. The Frommer's book is mostly information and lacks interest.

Excellent Guide to Northern NM.......2005-06-08

Just returned from Taos and Santa Fe and I was surprised about the accuracy of King's reviews. You can plan an excellent week using this book alone (and perhaps a more detailed hiking book). Even locals we spoke with were impressed that we knew of some of the out-of-the-way places. One note: the prices listed for many of the recommended restaurants have gone up (probably due to their newfound popularity from this book).

spot on.......2001-09-24

we just completed a two-week New Mexico vacation, and found that time after time, hotel after hotel, restaurant after restaurant, attraction after attraction, this guide was absolutely spot on. We brought another guide ("The Insider's Guide to Santa Fe") and wound up relying on Frommer's exclusively.

We were most impressed by the recommendations for small out-of-the-way places we _never_ would have gone to otherwise, "Chef du Jour" in Albu. being a perfect example.

Our only quibble is that the author praises the food a little over-much. Desserts she describes as the "best you'll ever eat" we would describe as "good", for example, but then again we're from the bay area and i guess we're pretty spoiled.

Informative and not afraid to criticize.......2000-07-18

We used this guide to plan a couple of trips to Santa Fe and in and around Taos, and were very happy with the results. The book starts with a general introduction to northern New Mexico, covering history, art, architecture and so on. Then there's a chapter on general visitor information for the region, and a section for foreign visitors. The remaining chapters are:

Getting to Know Santa Fe; Where to Stay in Santa Fe; Where to Dine in Santa Fe; What to See & Do in Santa Fe; Santa Fe Shopping; Santa Fe After Dark; Excursions from Santa Fe; Getting to Know Taos; Where to Stay in Taos; Where to Dine in Taos; What to See & Do in Taos; Albuquerque

The organization is good, with the hotels, for example, clearly broken out by price range ("Very Expensive", "Expensive", "Moderate" and "Inexpensive"). But the real value of the book is the author's candid evaluations. We've been burned in the past by guide books that gave every establishment a glowing review, so it was pleasant to use this book to find lunch in Taos one day last month. Here's some of what we found:

Ogelvie's Bar and Grill: "The food here is not flavorful, and the atmosphere is dated"

Eske's Brew Pub: "The crowd is local, a few people sitting at the bar . . . . At times it can be a rowdy place, but mostly it's just fun, lots of ski patrollers and mountain guides . . . ."

Outback in Taos: "My kayaking buddies always go here after a day on the river. That will give you an idea of the level of informality (very), as well as the quality of the food and beer (great) and the size of the portions (large)."

Very Useful........2007-04-11

As a teacher of both at-risk students and AP level English, I have found this product very useful in reinforcing basic grammar skills. My students are intrigued by the playful approach of the exercises. Grammar Grabbers is a wonderful alternative to Drill and Kill exercises found in most of the mediocre texts available to school systems. Most teachers do not enjoy teaching grammar because of the negative eye-rolling reactions they get from their students. This text can change the quality of that reaction.

A Must Have for Type Designers.......2006-12-01

If you work with type, you'll want this book. Dan Solo had a huge collection of great old and new type faces. You'll find 24 of them here. Some, you might already have, and some are so nice that I believe if you find one gem here, it makes the price worthwhile. The fonts are in both Windows True Type and Macintosh formats. The pages have the complete alphabets and a character chart. Be sure to notice the "extra characters" that are offered in some fonts.

This book is great for kids, or for those who enjoy "remilling" soaps. It wasn't what I was expecting, but still a good book. It is good for those that don't want to measure out lye, but I would recommend you look elsewhere if you are looking to make soap from scratch.

GREAT FOR BEGINNERS AND THOSE WHO ARE BUSY!.......1999-07-12

From the eyes of a beginner this book is great because most of the recipes don't cost a bundle or contain harmful chemicals like lye. (I dont think I want to experiment with lye just yet). This book also has ideas that are inexpensive and easy to follow. "Die-hard" soap makers that believe in only absolutly made-from-scratch recipes will most definatly not apprieciate this book. Many of the recipes start from store bought soap and shampoo which in my opinion does not reduce the quality of the end results. The things in this book are great for presents. I've actually have been asked by one of my friends if I would sell some of the things I make at her store!

Kelly Reno's book is great for beginners. It has simpler recipes where one doesn't have to buy all types of exotic ingredients. I especially liked the section on melt and pour soap recipes using glycerin soap. This is a great project for kids and for those who are a little hesitant to work with lye!

You can really be creative by using Kelly's base recipes and customizing them to your exact tastes for color and fragrance. We made all our Christmas gifts to rave reviews and the all natural ingredients are safe for the kids to use.

I was excited when I read this book I quickly started looking for the ingredients to make my first soap. It was easy to make and very nice.

I am, although, having a hard time locating shampoo concentrate for the shampoo recipes.

Great Reference.......2002-03-27

I ordered this book through Amazon.com because we are interested in using fruits and vegetables in landscaping. Actually, we just plain like to garden and eat. Landscaping is secondary.

Fruit tree catalogues are very basic, and frustrating. You see some closeup's of a fruit, and that's it. No sense of the tree or shrub shape, seasonal looks, the plant's needs, or anything else. So, it's hard to figure out what variety and what plant fits with your yard.

This book is prob. the best garden reference I have ever purchased, and has become our favorite when planning spring plant orders. Mr. Hagy writes as clear an explanation of landscape design concepts as I have read in any book. He has good illustrations of ways to incorporate fruit and vegetable plants into the landscape. But since the landscaping is secondary to me, what is most helpful for me are the great illustrations and details of the many edible plants that can be used in landscapes. I've learned a lot reading this book, and I'm a farm girl who's been around "edible landscapes" all my life.

This is truly a 5 star gardening book.
