Ivan A.Backerman (CARRABELLE,FL.).......2006-02-23
Concise and excellent travel guide, helpful for my last trip to the Yucatan.Well done!!
Good maps, but lacks important details.......2006-02-21
This guide misses some of the most interesting places to stay and completely skips the best restaurants, I think. Also, I wanted to know how to get to the ferry for Isla Mujeres from Puerto Morelos. There is only transportation information from the tourist area in Cancun or the airport.
so so guide.......2005-09-26
Got a bit of everything... Not the details on common activities that are actually helpful in deciding trip. Overall, a good start, but will have to get something more detailed to supplement.

Best of the Lot!.......2006-05-03
I took three guide books with me for my Mexican Tour and this was best of the lot, as far as an overall guide. That being said it is weak when it comes to more particular information on the little out of the way places that make a trip truly memorable. I suggest you also carry more specific guide books for certain areas. For instance, there are much better guide books available on the Yucatan. For travel there I would get a book that covers only that area. I also recomemend the Adventure thriller "Tourist in the Yucatan," great story set in one of my favorite places!
Frommer's is the best "upscale" guide available........2006-02-22
Mexico is popular! Last year it received over 20 million visitors, and with a fairly stable Mexican peso the prices for food, lodging and transportation offers a very good vacation value.
I took both Fodor's and Frommer's with me on my recent visit to Mexico and Frommer's is clearly the best. Frommer's Mexico 2006 opens with "What's New in Mexico", and this is a store house of information, especially if you are a frequent travelers to Mexico. New hotels and resorts are popping up throughout Mexico. If you can go to these spots before they become well known and packed, you apt to get great prices and better service.
Another section that I highly recommend is "The Best of Mexico" where the authors, Baird and Bairstow, have selected "Best Beach Vacations", "Best Culture Experiences", "Best Active Vacation", on and on.
Unlike, Fodor's, Frommer's makes life a bit easier by giving you the actual cost of accommodations and restaurant in dollars. Yea! All of the hotels have website listings and going online to see the rooms and layout of a hotel is a major help. The hotel recommendations are right on the money, but I found the restaurants recommendations to be hit or miss.
The authors describe each hotel and restaurant accurately and write in such a way that they paint a picture for you, "This centrally located hotel is comfortable, beautiful and well managed. It is a half-block from the plaza, in a large colonial mansion made from the same stone as the church. The two floors of rooms surround a stately courtyard with orange trees growing around a stone fountain and bougainvilleas creeping up the walls." Great writing.
Though the guide attaches a pull out-map of Mexico (a nice gift) they completely omitted maps by which locate the restaurants that they recommend. Thus finding the restaurants becomes a serious hassle, especially in the sprawling cities. This is serious omission. The six page anemic section on the history, politics, environment, culture and customs is an affront to Mexico.
If you are on a tight budget then you should consider Rough Guide or Lonely Planet. If you are on a very tight budget then Let's Go is the guide for you. If you got a little "jingle" in your pocket and you like the nicer things of life then Frommer's is the best "upscale" guide available.
For tourists, not "travelers".......2005-11-17
Covers only the most popular tourist destinations and provides no coverage of cities one might drive through getting there. For example, Tampico and Monterey (!) are not even listed in the index. For covered areas, the emphasis is on the on the destinations popular with the fly-in tourist, while other major cities receive scant attention: Mérida, Yucatan's capital, has about the same number of pages as Tulum, a small Maya site easily assessable from Cancún. Hotel and restaurant coverage leans toward the upper end of the $ scale. Should be useful for the English-speaking tourist who wants to see something other than the beach (major archaeological sites are reasonably well covered), but is not useful for the traveler who might happen to arrive in Coatzacalcos (or any other non-tourist city) looking for a hotel and a meal.

Copyright free forms.......2000-03-31
The two best features of this book are the invitation to copy, scan and otherwise duplicate the designs, and the hardly visible pale blue gridlines on the pages. Okay, it has a really good variety of borders as well. Both the bounded kind, and in the back some free line designs. they even provide a nice celtic alphabet in the back for use. But the non-xeroxing blue layhout lines means that you are going to get things really centered on the page before copying. This is a big plus in my book. I only give it four stars because page borders just dont thrill me enough for five stars. Maybe if they were in color..

Paws And Reflect: Exploring the Bond Between Gay Men And Their Dogs
ASIN: 0671024515 |
Book Description
In his #1 New York Times bestselling autobiography Breaking the Surface, Greg Louganis included loving portrayals of his protectors and closest friends: his dogs. Now Greg, a breeder and trainer of Harlequin Great Danes, has teamed up with award-winning animal writer Betsy Sikora Siino to create an extraordinary guide to dog ownership.
Greg's distinctive philosophy and practical tips -- hich have produced his best-in-breed winners -- illuminate every page of this special volume that puts the dog's best interests first. Here are insights into choosing a dog, basic care, training, exercise, and nutrition -- and an overview of every stage of a dog's life. Passionate in his opinions and wonderfully effective, Greg includes:
- Cures for chewing, barking, biting, and other so-called behavior problems
- Answers to the great housetraining disputes -- including the pros and cons of crating
- Specific feeding programs for optimal nutrition -- and for combating the greatest health threat to your dog: obesity
- An exercise program for the canine athlete (and they're all athletes!)
- Training tips for obedience, showing, and search-and-rescue
- Preventive medicine, common illnesses from nose to tail, and age-related concerns
- Advice on breeding, whelping, adopting your second (third, fourth...) dog, and more!
For The Life of Your Dog is an inspiring and eye-opening reference. Delivered with Greg's delightful candor, his sound advice makes it a classic for new and long-time dog owners -- and anyone who has ever loved a dog.
Customer Reviews:
Good book on living with dogs.......2005-06-18
When I saw this book I was surprised-like many people might be-to discover Greg Louganis trains dogs and lives with a pack of them, from several great danes to a "Jack Russell terrorist". As I read the book I found his enthusiasm towards dogs and understanding their behavior absolutely contagious. I found this book very encouraging and helpful. It may not be the best book on specific training techniques but I thought it provided great overall information on what you can do to really enjoy having dogs into your life.
It's all about Greg, very little solid information!.......2004-05-21
I expected advice on how to be a good owner, how to understand your dog and her needs, solutions to common problems. I hoped for training tips.
Reading this book was like submitting to an endless lecture from a disapproving grandparent, who alternates between lecturing and bragging.
Surprise! What I didn't expect:
- to learn what & how Greg thinks about himself and his dogs
- so many photos of Greg.. Greg and Greg's dogs
A Nice Additional Perspective on Living with Dogs.......2003-09-08
I really liked this book. It added a loving perspective to dog-rearing that I did not find in other books I'd read -- and I read many! Yes it's true that Louganis uses personal stories about his dogs and lifestyle, but I did not find them to be bragging. Instead, he is realistic about what it is like to live and travel with dogs on a daily basis. He also has stories which exemplify the difference between large breeds vs terriers which were helpful to me as the new owner of a Norwich. If you are looking for a book specifically about dog training, this is not it, but his perspective on many aspects of dog-rearing: puppyhood vs adolescence, breeding, illness, and euthanasia are helpful to put the lifespan of your dog in front of you when you start. I personally would have liked a little more on puppy socialization, and that includes interacting with young children, and a little more on housebreaking, but this is a warm tribute from a man who obviously loves his dog family and gives them a great deal of respect.

The best "all around" dog book ever..........2003-06-06
As a shelter volunteer, when I read this I kept hearing my own voice...talking to people who were wanting to adopt dogs: gently and encouragingly explaining how they should choose a dog (not based upon looks or on their general understanding of a certain breed), how to train their dog in a positive fashion (not using an "I'll show you who is boss" attitude)...It's ALL here...EVERYTHING... everything that I explain over and over and over again as I try to educate potential adopters hoping some of it sticks, and as I try to find the VERY BEST match for "my" dogs. I really don't understand when people say this book is about Great Danes..I didn't get that AT ALL. Just because he uses his own dogs as examples and draws from his own experiences doesn't mean you can't generalize ALL of this material to other dogs, not to mention that there is a large section devoted to terriors (he owns a JRT) and to mixed breed dogs. The only shortcoming I found was the lack of information the absolute necessity of spaying and neutering. Breeding should be left to a very few professionals, and the rest of us need to spay and neuter...and I wish he had touched upon that issue more adamantly. Also, the way the book is layed out isn't really user friendly. It's more memoir style so that you might miss out on some really good ideas and tips that are buried in a paragraph of text. Other than that, this book is the perfect primer for new pet owners. I bought three copies -- one for myself, one for our shelter library, and one for a friend who was contemplating dog ownership.

Southern garden classic!.......2006-02-27
Although the black/white interface may seem antiquated, the plant list is extensive enough to make this a REAL resource for even the nonprofessional gardener. Great and reliable reviews of nearly everything Southern in a garden.
A Must Have.......2003-01-13
An excellent reference for the serious Southern Gardener.
Absolutely the best reference for Southern gardeners!.......1999-03-26
This is absolutely the best reference book for Southern gardeners. If "it" is not mentioned here, "it" is not meant to be planted in the South. Information is easy to understand for beginning gardeners. I am on my second edition.
Mandatory for serious garderners........1999-02-21
Gardening is a lifestyle that sings to my soul. This is THE hymnal. Pick up a copy and sing with me.
Premier reference for southern gardeners........1998-12-04
I own and operate a nursery and use the book constantly. Not many books focus on the south but finally, one that does. It is very factual and offers a lot of supplemental information in addition to identification of plants.

Gonna Kick It Root Down.......1999-12-19
This book is pretty cool. Its pretty much just a collection of articles about the boys and stuff like that so its not truly grand royal, but its worth having if you're a true Beastie Boys fan. Personally, I liked Rhyming and Stealing a lot better, but this book isn't all that bad. Lots of interesting little bits of information here and there. This book is money well spent, especially if you are a fan of BB King or the blues. Not only is it well-written, but the selective editing of Anson Pope keeps the focus concise and delightful. One of the best music books I've read in a long time.
