There are many of us that would like to know what certain

places offer - places that pique our curiosity and in some

cases, longing. That is why the Damron book seemed tantalizing.

But, alas our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. Lots of addresses

lots of places but no sustenance. Just lists, and more lists and, more

lists. How about descriptions, opinions,facts of interest, details(not

essentially long but novel or of interest) Lousy buy for the money.

GREAT IDEAS... GIVEN THE RIGHT CROWD.......2003-07-09

I am an event planner from Los Angeles and work for the Mandarin Oriental hotel which hosts numerous high fashion and celebrity events. I found this book to hold a number of innovative and surprisingly fun-inducing ideas ... however, i found that the ideas Rena presents are more applicable to the high society party world, where indulging in such extravagant parties is the norm. Some of the events in the book would ultimatley be hard to pull off with certain crowds b/c of the lack of enthusiasm for such parties. Thus, i receommend this book for anyone who is serious about planning events where the crowd is engaged... otherwise these parties would fail. Ultimatley, it depends on your crowd. For myself, this book has been a creative guide which has spawned a number of my own ideas and additions to rena's ideas. I love the book: pictures and presentation are pleasing to the eye... The book serves great also, as simply a coffee table book, stylish and interesting.

Rena's book is the perfect combo of utility and style. I have already bought a dozen book as gifts for friends and am planning on hosting a few bashs combining all Rena's ideas. Although I am an avid book lover and loyal amazon customer, I usually do not write reviews for books, but i was stunned with the creativity of this book. I hope i can one day meet this mastermind of creativity but until that day... RENA KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

I LOVED this - although I've been to some great parties here in the city, I'd adore to make it to some of these parties. I thought the ideas for creating your own event were great and in fact, read a story on the front of the New York Times Styles section on Sunday about someone who did follow her suggestions and had the best party - despite initial reservations about it being worth the effort! The photograpy is great - it's Jessica Craig Martin's style - she pokes her camera at people - it's not supposed to be perfect - but more snapped on the go. I think this book makes a great gift - I'm also planning my Valentine's day party now!

As an event designer myself, I am surprised by this books' poor photography and lack of interesting details. It seems to be more about showing off her friends and acquaintances than about showing the theme parties she has designed. The pictures on the montage pages seem to blend together and nothing really catches your eye. I purchase all event design, tabletop and wedding books on the market and haven't seen one as of yet that has provided so few new ideas and where the photography was this substandard. I can appreciate artistic photography, but most of these photos cut people off in strange places or offer unflattering photographs of guests at the event.

I liked this book because it has a lot of details about housetraining that other books skim over. The author offers several housetraining schedules to get you started with training. I agree that the material could be covered in far fewer pages but if you wanted brevity on the subject you probably wouldn't be looking to buy a whole book about it anyway.

I found this book to be mostly fluff about cute little puppies going potty than any really helpfull information. Most of the information could have been written in 10 pages but some how ended up to be 120 pages. I found "The Only Dog Training Book You'll Ever Need" by Bielakiewicz much more helpfull and much less expensive.

I am a landscape architect and love this book. It is beautifully presented with excellent photographs and a meticulous legend system. One other reviewer didn't like it but I would have to say they didn't look closely enough to realize this book is marvelous for helping any person put together planting combinatinos that are aesthetically pleasing and funcional.

This is a comprehensive compilation of creative combination ideas replete with gorgeous photographs. Beautiful book, with a foil Dust Jacket in green & gold. I have sold 4 or 5 and never had a complaint.

Fantastic Reference Book; definitely will provide inspiration........2005-11-11

I have this book on my wish list so am still borrowing it from the library. It takes about 5-10 minutes familiarizing yourself with the layout and symbols but once you've invested the time, it is an awesome reference. A perennial problem in gardening/landscaping is figuring out what plant(s) work with a given plant--this book helps solve that problem. It will take some time and another reference book to look up a possible solution's zone, light, soil requirements etc but this book gets you headed in the right direction. Even if you don't find the perfect partner for a given plant, it gives you ideas. For example, lets say you want something to go with a purple-leaved barberry. You may not like the plants it recommends but you discover that a plant with yellow-green foliage will look great. Therefore, you may then discover that a sweet potato vine will look superb with it.

Is it one-stop shopping? No. Is there a better book for this purpose? If there is one, I haven't seen it.

Beautiful book with inspiring ideas.......2003-08-26

This lush, beautifully designed and photographed book, should provide gardeners with hours of enjoyment and help them make decisions about pairing plants in their gardens. Sections are divided by type of plants (such as Perennials, Roses, Bulbs, etc.). The author profiles each plant with a very thorough description (including growing advice) followed by a list of plants that will compliment it in the garden. It is also accompanied by a photo. The photographs in the book are mouth-watering to say the least! The only gripe I had was that the list of plants provided with each entry is listed with the Latin plant name which is often bewildering to novice gardeners. However, a common name list is located in the back of the book, which helps remedy the situation. Very highly recommend. A gorgeous book!

Fantastic Book!.......2003-03-06

I can't figure out what book the first reviewer was looking at, but it couldn't have been Lord & Lawson's! This is a meticulous and comprehensive compilation of creative combination ideas replete with gorgeous photographs. My wife is an expert gardener and this is among her favorites! She used to take it out of the Brentwood Public Library every week till I bought her a copy from Amazon.
