Not an easy read while traveling.......2006-03-17

This book had several small errors in text and maps, it was not fun looking for the hotel carrying your luggage around. Also the book is divided into unlogical sections, so you'll never find the info you are looking for unless you remember where it was mentioned. We bought it because there was also a short part about Whistler. That was also not that informative, nothing about the slopes or skiing. The book gives you basic details (except I could not find Vancouvers population) in a bit confusing manner, but nothing extra. It also has no pictures, what makes it a bit uninteresting. The layout and fonts are boring.

Great Author, Great Book!!.......2001-03-07

Having had a chance to meet the talented Mr. Niewoehner during one of his recent autograph session/book reading at my local Jimbo's Bookwormania, I must confess that I was overwhelmed by is wonderous outlook on life and on law school. I found him, much like his book, to be an inspirational journey into legalistics. I, too, would someday love to attend that institution of institutions, Harvard Law School, and I believe that reading Mr. Niewoehner's book twice or perhaps even three times will start me in the right direction. It is, indeed, what I like to call a "must read" for the lawyers of the future!

I thought the book, notably the law school section, was superbly researched and written. A true must-read for anyone considering law school and a legal career.

Currently attending a top law school myself, I thought some of the earlier reviews characterizing the book as "generic" or "common" were way off the mark and likely written by dumb poo-poo heads who went to state schools.

Very weak book in comparison to others of the same type........1999-05-09

After he persuades you not to go to law school, he gives very short and common descriptions of what law school is like. I think you would definitely be much better off with another book. A student counselor at any major college or university could have just as easily written this book, and quite possibly done a much better job.

I picked up this book after I had been accepted to a law school, but now I feel it was a waste of money. For one thing, I feel that the information is so generic, that any student who has talked someone who is in (or has recently been to) law school or their pre-law advisor would know this. This is espicaly true with the application process. One feeling I got from the book was that it was intended for a freshman in college who is thinking about going about law school. If you are a junior or senior, you probably know the stuff in the book. All and all, not bad but I suggest "How to Succeed in Law School" by Gary Munneke if you want to know what law school itself is about.

The best thing about this balanced, comprehensive review of law school is that it does not assume that everyone should go to law school. It provides a detailed description about what a law studen'ts life is like and carefully lays out both the costs and benefits of getting a law degree. Those who are dead-set on going to law school might want to skip ahead to the sections on applying, but anyone who is even mildly curious about what law school is like would benefit from the authors' depictions. The book also provides sound advice on deciding where, when, and how to apply; the calendar in the back is especially helpful. Although those who, like me, have already graduated college may find some of the advice on how to choose a major a little belated, the book does its best to be relevant to both younger and older students and doesn't make any assumptions about financial resources or academic qualifications, either. All in all, this book is a well- written primer for anyone thinking of becoming a lawyer.

Mr.Buchanan made me laugh uncontrollably and cry as deeply. I read this book in one sitting and was so moved I proceeded to purchase several for friends. Anyone who has ever loved a pet - of any kind - will never forget this book. The author writes with acute sensitivity and extraordinary humor. One will never look at tomato juice in the same way after "Living With Brittanys".

Fine Memoir.......2003-03-03

This book confirmed what I remember about Brittanys from childhood; they are mishievous, physically challenging, and personable. I especially enjoyed reading about the effect that the distinct personalities of three Brittanys had on the owners. The special attention that these two people gave to their dogs and the pain that they experienced when the first two died is particularly poignant. Humorous and in some cases hilarious incidents punctuate this fine memoir. I also found the description of beautiful wilderness areas compelling. This is an uplighting and inspirational book for troubled times.

High expectations, bitter disappointment.......2003-02-04

As a prospective Brittany owner I have been researching the breed for about 6 months and from the outside, "Living with Brittanys:A Survival Guide" seemed like it would provide me with the essential information I needed to decide whether the breed was right for me. Sadly, I was bitterly disappointed. "Living with Brittanys" is a frustratingly OVER-descriptive, self indulgent short story that actually made me angry in parts because of it's non-relevance to the subject matter. The story itself could have been about ANY dog and I learned all I needed to know in the last two pages through a bullet pointed list of common brittany traits. I wish I had saved both my money and time.

Since I had the honor of meeting these three dogs, the descriptions of their lives with the two owners meant more to me than the average person; however I will attempt to be unbiased. This account will certainly give one the idea of what different personalities dogs have within the breed which can affect your choice of a dog that must suit your lifestyle and surroundings. Through semantic skill and vivid descriptions of the terrain, the reader will sense Bill's affection for the environment, the need to respect it, and our responsibility to take care of it. Most importantly the reader will learn the pitfalls, the pleasures, and the humor of owning a Brittany.

I love hallmark.......2005-08-23

I ahve this book. It is an awesome reference for the older ornaments. You can use to see the value and what ornaments may have been in the series before you started collecting since it goes back to the very first year. You can see how the variety of ornaments has evolved. My copy is dog eared. It is a great reference. The only thing I like better for my ornaments is the updated book put out by Hallmark this year.

This book provides both detailed pcitures of each ornament with pricing arranged by year of issue. Very easy to use and wonderfully done! Definitely recommend.

All the books I've seen that try to explain the business of desktop publishing have been too general and pretty uniformly unhelpful. This one, Desktop Publishing Success, is different. Filled with the real-life dtp experiences of the two authors and many others interviewed, the book will give the fledgling dtp business a good chance at success. What the dtp entrepreneur needs in starting out is very detailed information in the day-to-day running of the business; this is just what this book provides. It could be better only by a new, updated edition.

The publication of Volume VII marks the completion of the American series of The Marcus Garvey and Universal Negro Improvement Association Papers. This final book in the seven-volume set charts the magnetic, controversial Pan-African leader's career from his deportation from the United States in November 1927 to his death in England in 1940.
The volume begins with Garvey's triumphant welcome in Jamaica, his tour abroad, and his entry into Jamaican party politics. It traces his reshaping of the organizational structure of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) in the late 1920s, and his management of UNIA affairs from Kingston and London in the 1930s. Though typically seen as a time of decline, this final period of Garvey's life appears, in editorials drawn from his publications, as a fruitful one in which some of his strongest political writings were produced. Surveillance reports filed by Jamaican police and British colonial officials provide a rich account of Garvey's speeches and activities. Although he was banned from the United States and restricted from traveling or speaking in many areas under colonial supervision, Garvey nevertheless traveled widely after his deportation, visiting and influencing affairs in Geneva, Paris, and London, and making organizational tours of Canada and the Caribbean. He chaired UNIA conferences in Toronto and inaugurated the School of African Philosophy, a series of lectures designed to train UNIA leaders. In the mid-1930s he moved the headquarters of the UNIA to London.
In the final months of his life, correspondence between Garvey in England and his young sons in Jamaica shows the personal side of the public leader. The tragedy of Garvey's personal demise is framed by the cataclysmic events of Europe entering a world war and by the decline of the movement he had worked so diligently to build. The long financial hardships of the previous decade and the loss of Garvey's presence had winnowed the membership of the UNIA. Garvey suffered a disabling stroke in January 1940. He died in London the following June, as Italy invaded France and Germany prepared to occupy Paris. Volume VII ends with the reconstitution of the UNIA in the months immediately after Garvey's death and the establishment of a new headquarters with new leadership in Cleveland.

Good General information.......2001-05-28

We bought this book, because we are looking for the perfect breed to join our household. So whenever we fancy a certain breed we like to get a book about it. This inexpensive little book gives an exellent first time greyhoundowner guidebook. Not only does it give you tips how to housetrain an ex-racer, but gives good and sound advise for training, feeding and dogcare in general. It gives examples, little stories and facts to make the read more intersting. Did you know that Bo Derek owned Greyhounds? Daniel Braun Stern' book made us read (and buy) several books about sighthounds and the adoption of retired racehounds.

You will need more indepth information later on, but if you get this book to make up your mind - in that case it is a very good book to buy!

By using primary sources, this case study seeks to shed new light on the nature and extent of European (in this case Scottish) educational pioneering work in Africa (in this case, eastern Nigeria). It examines the essential differences between (a) the pre-colonial period, (b) the colonial period, and (c) the pre-independence period. It argues that non-formal community and political education were continuously as central to the Christian (here, Presbyterian) missionaries' work as was the formal schooling of the young - females as well as males. While the curricula reflected the missionaries' religious objectives, and later the colonial government's, the evidence demonstrates an on-going commitment to the personal and social development of pupils and their parents, and their society. The Presbyterians encouraged the emergence of an independent Nigerian church and, in their schools, a pride in being Nigerian.
