How about an edition of this book where the rooms are actual within the price range of a normal family? I picked up a copy at the library and enjoyed reading it but with rooms costing about $500.00-1000.00 dollars a night this book was nothing but fantasy reading material. I have to disagree with a few recs, as well, the Inn at Spanish Bay is not that great, its a modern complex and while its nice, it isn't all that. There are better more historical romantic places to go, such as some of the B&B's in Pacific Grove.

Worth buying, but needs more colored pictures........2002-08-16

This book definitely contains a lot of helpful information about romantic resorts. However, I was disappointed that there wasn't more colored pictures of each resort. Some resorts have no pictures at all. If you want to see pictures of the resort, which most people do, I would recommend looking up the resorts in the book online. That's what I'm doing.

Define "romantic", my girl friend said to me, as I looked at her with my best 'I know what it means, don't press me' look. Being slightly romantically challanged, my understanding of the world comes from Clark Gable in 'Gone with the Wind' "Frankly Scarlet, I ...".

Katherine Dyson defines romantic with 100 different definitions via 100 different resorts. These selections span the world, so wherever you're are inclined to stoke the fire of `amore', Dyson has a suggestion. With each resort section you get a detailed profile, as well as web-site and e-mail addresses (impressive!).. Especially useful is the specialized indexes she provides: romance by the sea, romance with tennis, romance with golf, romance with a horse(!), romance on a safari, romance with a private pool, romance with a private fireplace and romance in a city for convenient shopping (Oops, there goes the romance).

Though I could only get to a half dozen of the recommended romantic resorts before I wanted to get back to fish'n in Southern Georgia, I got the general idea. I applaud the great research that Katherine Dyson has done, though I take exception to listing huge commercial resorts as romantic (Half-Moon Club, Sandals Resorts, Disney's Resort etc.). Also helpful would be a list of the most expensive to the cheapest romantic spots; it is amazing how $$$ affects romance with most men. But, pushing these observations aside, "100 Best Romantic Resorts of the World" is an excellent guide for those that have a moon in their eye "like a big pizza pie". Recommended.

Perfect for planning your honeymoon.......2001-01-26

The biggest thing I had to do to for our wedding (besides show up) was to plan our honeymoon. This book was the only resource I could find that didn't just list the "if-money-were-no-object" type of resorts. It also listed amazing hard-to-find places that actually fit our budget. The result -- our honeymoon was perfect. I highly recommend this book.

These are classy, understated, feminine, pretty cards. The pictures are beautiful as are the colors. The best part however is the quality, no flimsy stock and envelopes here! The paper's thick and white and the envelopes are made of heavy white paper and green inside.

I liked all the pictures, in fact, I liked them so much that my only complaint is that there aren't more different motifs in the set or that he didn't include more colors in each design. All are beautiful, though. And they're blank too so any occasion's good for using them.

Great for any occasion and already packaged for gift-giving in a pretty petal-ed cardboard box with velcro flaps. Get it for someone else then you'll like it so much that you'll go out and buy one for yourself :)

These cards come in a nice enclosure w/ a velcro flap. Very feminine and nicely presented for gift giving. The white envelopes are printed on the inside in a soft green color that complements all of the 4 card designs. Good value for the price. Nice as a gift when you also include pretty postage stamps w/ it.

A great history, identification, and price guide........2002-10-15

I've been collecting American toy soldiers all of my life, and this is by far the best guide that I've ever found. It works as a good overall history of the subject, as well as, a specific historical guide to the companies and individuals involved. It is also superb as an identification guide and for approximate pricing.
Whether you are into cast metal figures like Maniol, Barclay, or Grey Iron, or the classic Marx, Ideal, MPC, or Lido plastics, this is one great guide. It even covers comic book flats, paper soldiers, cerial premiums, and the original G.I. Joe. You can spend hours just flipping though this hefty book and reminiscing, even if you don't currently collect.

Collecting Toy Soldiers. (1996) Third Edition.......2000-07-10

Second of two large soft cover books by Richard O'Brien, specifically aimed at the identification and fair value of American Made Toy Soldiers. Includes brief history of each manufacturer pre and post WWII styles of soldiers. Top quality materials, mine has traveled thousands of miles in suitcases, back packs and the backseat. Opened and closed hundreds of times, it is still in great shape. Crisp and clear photos of most of the listed items have helped avoid confusion and misidentification.

With on-line auctions setting the pace in the toy soldier collecting world. An identification guide of this quality is a must in establishing a BEGINNING bid, while desirability sets how high the actual cost will go. Hopefully, an update of this book is in work as in my opinion the on-line auctions have driven the price of many of the toys to often double their listed price.

Excellent book providing great detail. We used the book when we sailed around the islands and it provided a great guide to most, if not all islands. Very up to date.

Probably most value to those using the ferry service, but excellent none the less for others getting around more than one island.

Indispensable.......2001-03-13

You don't need it if you're going on a cruise (it's rather snooty about cruises, with that backpacker reverse snobbery)or if you're going to fly to one island and stay there. In fact the details about the boats and timetables may be too much. If you're moving from island to island independently you have to have it. It's the only one that tells you about the boats themselves. Reading this book could even save your life My favorite comment in the 1999 edition was about the boat then called the Golden Vergina. "a large grime bucket-she has inthe past shuddered along, not thanks to an excess of engine vibration but rather with the collective disgust of her passengers. thanks to the conditions on board ... better than no boat all but only just." She was renamed the Express Santina and if you read about the Paros shipwreck you know the rest. 80 were drowned.

This 2000 edition has great WEB sites to explore. Maybe it needs more about Athens airport and the mystifying Olympia terminal. Flights from New York or London to the islands are not listed on Flifo. You have to go to the Olympic Airlines WEB site and get the domestic timetable of flights from Athens. Even flying Olympic from London you have to check in again as a domestic passenger and then go through security and then you find a row of gates with numbers and names of islands. It's simple if you're not half asleep. The first class lounge (ok - not real island hopping but I'm 65) is hidden at the end of the row AFTER security. On the flights that stop at Thessalinika you have to go through passport control twice.

Here is a book that links the modern olympics with the ancient olympics. Funny and full of amazing facts, it is also an eyeopener to the way we played sport 3000 years ago and the fact that some things never change. Excellent for anyone preparing a project on the Olympics, this book will appeal to all ages. It entertains while informing.

I have found this book to be the most useful field guide to the marine mammals of Alaska. The book is compact and easy to use for the quick identification of animals. Any species not in this book are simply unlikely to be seen.

INCOMPLETE:useful for the most common cetaceans in Alaska.......2001-02-08

I have examined this field guide, but find no place for this on my reference shelf. Although user-friendly, this is an incomplete field guide. A number of whale/dolphin genera/species which occur in Alaskan waters are excluded. Although missing from this field guide, I have personally observed northern right whale dolphin and short-finned pilot whales in the Gulf of Alaska during research cruises. Risso's dolphin and false killer whale have been recorded from Alaskan waters and are also excluded from this book. A number of other ceteceans (especially Kogia spp, Stenella coeruleoalba, and several other Mesoplodon spp. especially M. carlhubsii) are potential accidentals in Alaskan waters during warm-water incursions and these are also ignored. Please consider purchase of a complete guide to cetacean identification instead. Try Leatherwood et al.'s "Whales, Dolphins, and Porpoises of the Eastern North Pacific and Adjacent Arctic Waters'.

The best available field guide for marine mammals in Alaska.......1998-02-10

A comprehensive and user friendly guide to marine mammals in Alaskan waters. This book is designed to be used in the field, with enough information on habitat, range and behavioral traits of the various species. Identification is based on more than pictures alone allowing readers to educate themselves beyond mere identification.

Shiny Shapes: THe Zueghaus Graz

This is a fantastic book for the Arms and Armor enthusiast. Its large format and expansive pages allow some of the best photographs of late medieval armor and weapons that I've ever seen. The photography is stellar, with several items from the Landmuseum Graz in life-size or near life-size detail. I am an armorer and a medieval enthusiast, and this is the crown jewel of my collection.

The text is a little weak on information about the armor, focused rather on the Museum and its past and wanders a bit into the abstract. There is a whole chapter for instance comparing the helms of the past with the facelessness of modern film villians, etc.

On the whole, a great book.
