Book Description
This is the fifth volume of the series, highlighting the latest research in the field of animal cell technology. The most recent data on cell growth and productivity in various cell culture systems are provided, including systems for recombinant animal gene expression and production of monoclonal antibodies, extending the investigations in the previous volumes. In addition, application of cell culture systems in new areas are presented: biosafety testing, removal of microorganisms, and the assessment of physiologically functional substances in food and natural sources. Also, a special section deals with applications of human monoclonal antibodies. All those involved in animal cell culture will find this volume an invaluable source on current research.

Customer Reviews:
Great Compact Overall Guide.......2007-06-22
You can never go wrong with the Frommer's Park Guide series. We just got back from visiting Bryce Canyon and Zion Parks (and the surrounding areas). We brought this book with us and were very satisfied with it. We LOVED the compactness of it (easy to throw in a backpack/carry on bag). It gives a good overview of each of the parks as well as some of the surrounding sites and areas around the parks. The description of the hikes were accurate as were the resturant/hotel reviews. The downside (as is the aase with all of the Frommer's Park guides) is that it offers very little background history on the parks. You might want to pick up a book about each of the parks when you get there if you want some geological and historical background. Otherwise, I highly recommend this book!
NOTE: I HIGHLY recommend taking the River Hike in Zion. Just bring a pair of old sneakers and you're good to go. Our two children (ages 4 and 8) did just fine (it has a somewhat rocky bottom). We saw people doing the hike in sandels and even barefoot, though I wouldn't recommend it. Also, we stayed in the Canyon Ranch hotel in Springdale (Zion) and LOVED it! Large, clean rooms set far back from the road. We stayed in Bryce Country Cabins located in Tropic (Bryce Canyon). Great for a family with kids or if you want to escape the "riff-raff" of the Rudy's Inn complex and want a more quiet place to stay.
Great Pocket Guide.......2007-01-10
This guide is smaller than the typical Frommer's and can fit handily in your back pocket. There is plenty of coverage on the best hiking trails and scenic drives through both Zion and Bryce National Parks as well as easy side trips you can make while visiting. There is also full coverage of the hotels and restaurants in the area. As always, Frommer's also includes a "Best of" section to help you zoom in on the best options for the things you're most interested in.
Overall, this guide is very helpful. In addition to the basics, there are plenty of helpful tips on how to avoid crowds, what to bring with you, how best to see animals, etc. The authors cover all the bases clearly and concisely and make planning a trip to these beautiful national parks a much easier process.

Customer Reviews:
A wonderful overview of the parks.......2003-04-09
This guide proved to be an excellent resource during our recent trip to the Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Highlights of this book include how comprehensive it was despite its relative brevity, the easy-to-read writing style, and its off-the-beaten-path recommendations.
The authors discussed all the subjects I was looking for in a travel book. They covered the usual "where to stay" and "where to eat" topics very well, including reviews of the campgrounds in the parks. We were very satisfied staying and eating at the places recommended by the authors.
A particular strength of the book was its overview of the numerous hiking trails of the two parks. The trails were organized by length, and the authors gave good recommendations about which trails to do. One hike that they recommended as a "find" was a beautiful, short stroll to an icy cave, but because of its location off the main park road, we were completely by ourselves. The authors even discussed some of the backcountry hiking, if you are inclined to strap on your pack and head off into the wilderness.
The chapter on the natural history of the parks was also excellent. There was a description of the geological events that formed the parks, the flora and fauna, and the diverse ecosystems. The geological discussion in particular was especially helpful for understanding how the layers of rock were laid down over millions of years.
The authors gave good sample itineraries for experiencing the park in a day or two. Recommendations on seeing the sunrise across the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon and on visiting some of the less traveled sections of Zion were very worthwhile.
Nice bonuses in the book included information for kids, RVers, and people with disabilities. The book also had information on practical things like where to get gas, buy supplies, do your laundry, etc. There is even a section on places to visit near the national parks such as some of the Utah state parks and nearby national monuments.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone heading to Zion and Bryce Canyon. It definitely enriched our experience and made planning a whole lot easier.
Book Description
The history of the Hopi (meaning "wise and beautiful people") is explored through a series of questions and answers, such as "Would you live in a teepee?" and "What did girls have to learn?"
Customer Reviews:
Not for Hopi kids.......2006-12-28
I was impressed with the accuracy and sensitivity of this book until it started talking about the katsinam as "men dressed as kachinas" and I was shocked at the drawing of men holding katsina masks. These are sacred matters which should NOT be presented in this manner in a book intended for children. Hopi children should not be exposed to this kind of information.
The Interest of Living with the Hopi.......2006-08-03
This is a great book. It has a lot of facts in it. The illustrations and the text made it seem like you were there, and you really feel how you would live and work. They had to do a lot of work, even the children. Children collected firewood, beans, plants, and other things to help with the gardens and food. In Hopi culture, the boys and the girls were equal. They had different jobs, but neither were more important than the other. The Hopi also looked for baby eagles hundreds of feet off the ground to see if they're prayers would be answered. I would recommend this book to kids and grown ups who are interested in Hopi and in our country.
Great for Kids AND Adults.......2003-01-15
This was a very interesting book, and I enjoyed it as much as my five-year-old son (and I learned as much as he did, too). In fact, my 11-year-old daughter was compelled to join in the reading, too. The book's Q&A, second-person format makes the reader feel involved, and the author answers questions that cover basic Hopi beliefs and culture, as well as things that children really want to know: "What games would I play?"

Book Description
A doctor's life is chaotic, nerve-shattering, sometimes sorrowful, and fulfilling--even when the patients are of the four-legged kind. In this sequel to Pet ER, Dr. George A. "Tad" Porter recounts more compassionate and often humorous stories of treating animals in emergency situations. This book includes stories from the years 1970-1974, the period after Dr. Porter opened his own veterinary hospital while continuing to service eleven other veterinary hospitals as an emergency on-call veterinarian. During that time, he treated more than 125 emergencies each month. Armed with a gas anesthetic machine in the trunk of his mustang, Dr. Porter would set out to meet his patients all over the South Bay, California area--cats like Star who had covered herself with some green paint, and Pooch, who had a bad habit of chasing lawn mowers. Porter also found himself involved with public servants--police who called asking for help for two animal victims of heatstroke and firefighters who were having trouble hoisting an injured seventy-pound dog up the side of a cliff. Though a few of Porter's stories may cause a tear or two, most have happy endings. All will help the reader better understand veterinary medicine and will educate readers about how to better protect their pets from circumstances that can escalate into emergencies.

OUTSTANDING BOOK.......1999-12-17
This book is wounderfull. I purchased the book before it was for sale and when it came to my door i was as happy as can be. I sent my engraving pictures to Tom and when I saw my engraving in it i got dizzy with exitement. This is the first time i have had my work put in a book and It was put in the best book of all times. I rate this book with 10 stars but that option was not available on the review rating. The work of the other engravers is unbelievably amazing and i am very satisfied at the great job Mr. Turpin did on the layout of this amazing book
Even better than Mr. Turpins first book........1999-06-05
I thought Tom Turpins first book "Modern Custom Guns" was fabulous. Now he has outdone himself once again. "Custom Firearms Engraving" was every bit as good, if not better than Turpin's previous book. At last we have an author who details the work and art which is gun engraving. The photo's are unsurpassed!
Customer Reviews:
fun book- misinformarion.......2003-07-03
I am an organic gardner in central Florida and find this book to be kinda usefull however I beg to differ with the authur who claims on page 107 of his book that "the ledgend of their (earwigs)creeping into ears of sleeping persons is untrue." I am a person who has had the very unfortunate experience of just that. If Mr. Zak wants a personal account of just how bad such an experience can be please have him contact me by e-mail as he may want more accurate information for a revision of his book.
A good book especially for Florida residents!.......2000-07-17
Ok, this book I first got around 3 years ago when upon visiting Florida I was amazed to see the abundance and variety of 'Critters' that they have there! Coming from England it is rare to see a spider but you cannot lift a stone without finding one there! After purchasing the book and returning to England I found that it was written for people troubled by household and garden pests, but I still read it! I found the content to be very interesting and packed full of information from behaviour to control. This book has the lot! Every pest imaginable it has a fully detail section on it! My relatives (who live in Florida) have also said that they have purchased the book and find very useful. I think that this proves that even the people it is aimed at find it truly priceless and this proves that this book is a must have if you live in Florida.
