At the back of the diary is helpful nuts-and-bolts info: time zones, conversion charts, telephone codes, mini-translation guides, and more.
Customer Reviews:
Nice journal.......2007-07-30
I quite like this book, though I bought it in a store, so I knew what it was when I purchased it. Yes, it's a journal with blank pages to write on. But what I liked about it is the interesting lists of places to see that pop up every 10 pages or so. It also has a quote about travel on each page. The cover is not a hardback, but not a paperback... somewhere in between. It has an attached ribbon bookmark, and a pocket in front that I would use to store receipts on the trip. I would have liked it to be spiral bound to make it easier to write in, so I may take mine to Kinko's and have them cut the binding off and spiral bind it for me.
Nothing special.......2007-06-18
Not sure what I was expecting but I think you can get the same thing from a cheap journal without the fancy name
Before You Die Journal.......2007-05-14
The book, while constructed of good quality is not exactly filled with information. It is more like a daily travel journal for your personal observations and notes of sites you seen during the travel. The book also is a checklist of places to visit/see. The checklist portion of the 1000 sites has a brief description of the location.
1,000 Places to See Before You Die Traveler's Journal.......2007-02-04
Very informative and easy to use.
Good Addition.......2006-11-03
This book is high quality and a good addition to "1000 Places To See Before You Die," but not really necessary. Has good trivia interspersed throughout it and between whatever you write in it during your travels.

Beautiful and Very 80's.......2007-09-22
Some tarot cards are beautiful, their art work, fascinating. This is one of those cards. It's colors are rich and appealing to the senses.
It's very 80's too, some characters look like actors from the 80's like Nicole Kidman, Glen Close, etc. And the colors and the style of drawing is very 80's, to me anyway.
A Beautifully-rendered Sensual Tarot Deck.......2006-03-17
Don't buy this deck if you are offended by nudity because there's plenty of it. As a professional reader, I return to it again and again because its beautifully-rendered images speak to me and make for a very in-depth reading. The cards are large and thin, and it takes a bit of adjustment to learn to shuffle them, but once you have this deck, don't be surprised if it becomes your favorite, as it has mine.
Fantastic Art & Accurate Deck.......2006-03-09
I have used the Rohrig Tarots cards for over 11 years now and I have to say that while I collect other cards, this deck is still my all time favorite and the one I use.
I started out with this deck not knowing very much about tarot. Over the years I have become a tarot afficionado and what is brilliant about this deck is that the art conveys the meaning of the cards beautifully. Stunning art with a contemporary twist, the major arcana cards meanings are not as readily apparent for a beginner so make sure to hang on to the little white book (LWB) that comes with the deck. Even if you purchase the book specific to this deck, the major arcana isn't explained easily for a beginner unless the beginner is well versed in astrology, runes, and other esoteric studies.
I have heard others stating that the deck is too large, but I haven't had much of a problem with this. Once you developed the knack of shuffling, it becomes relatively easy to do. Tarot decks that are meant to be used for readings seldom stay in pristine conditions. Instead of trying to shuffle length wise, shuffling width wise is very workable.
For those who are not comfortable with nudity, specifically that of the female breast, this is not the deck for you. The blatant sexuality apparent on the cards may shock some, so for the faint of heart or those underage, look elsewhere. However, if the nude form doesn't bother you and you understand the sybolism it conveys, this deck couldn't be more gorgeous and accurate and perfect for your use.
Sumptuous, Sensual, and Intriguing.......2006-02-15
"Certainly anyone who is seeking spiritual understanding has heard of the tarot. But what is it? Perhaps the tarot is best described as an initiation into a secret metaphorical language-a language that leads each of us to our own spiritual center." - From the Rohrig Tarot Book
Aesthetically speaking, the Rohrig tarot deck is the most beautifully captivating deck I've seen. In fact, this deck contains some of my favorite tarot images-especially The Fool, Magus, High Priestess, Hermit, and the Court Cards. At first glance, you may think you're looking at a collage deck, especially with images and writing superimposed on torn notebook paper. Upon closer inspection, however, you realize that German artist Carl-W Rohrig has painted each of the vibrant images. Sensuous lines (and bodies), hues of electric blues, starscapes, photo-realism, and stunning visual metaphors grace this sumptuous deck. Another intriguing aspect of the Rohrig tarot is the artist's inclusion of sketches and writing on the cards-mostly on lined notebook paper renderings, but also on the component images themselves.
For example, on the headdress of the Knight of Swords, Rohrig has written-in both English and German-words like passion, flexible, ambition, straightness, thinking, aims, concerning. On the Magus card, the upper part of the Magician's head gives way to a star-lit sky, with a bright super nova at the center. Rohrig has superimposed writings and sketches on the body of the Magus, which include a drawing of a winged foot (Mercury), sketches of lemniscates (the infinity symbol that's above the Magician in RWS decks) and the German words for communication, flexibility, and geniality.
The writings and sketches themselves are an added source for intuitive information, but so are the visual metaphors that Rohrig employs. For example, a large, round eggshell-hued sphere is superimposed on the belly of a naked woman on the Princess of Disks card. With the Judgment card, a trumpet mouthpiece floats below a woman's chin, symbolic of the horn blown on the traditional Judgment card. In fact, a sketch resembling the RWS card is on the lower left of the image.
The cards are quite large, measuring approximately 6 ½ by 3 ½ inches. The backs are non-reversible, but depict a surreal water/spacescapes of blues, violet, and silver-with hints of black, hot pink, and black. The card attributions follow traditional renderings and each of the Major Arcana cards depicts a Hebrew letter, astrological glyph, and rune symbol. These are explained in the Rohrig Tarot Book, but not in the L(ittle) W(hite) B(ook) that accompanies the deck. The LWB is eleven pages and provides key words and phrases for each of the cards. Both the LWB and the Rohrig Tarot Book provide three spreads and an explanation: The Cross, The Seven Cards, and the Partner Spread.
Disks, Swords, Cups, and Wands comprise the Minor Arcana, with the Court titles following the Princess, Prince, Queen, and Knight tradition. At the top of each fully illustrated Minor Arcana card, the suit name is displayed in light gray, almost like a shadow, while the keyword is superimposed in dark black. This could present some difficulty for those new to Tarot or beginning readers, because, at times, the suit isn't obvious-especially with the Cups.
If you're not sure you'd like to work with the Rohrig Tarot, you could always purchase the Rohrig Tarot Book, a 160-page companion book that reproduces each card in full-color on its glossy pages. The only thing missing from the card images in the book are the borders, which include the card title/keyword at top. In the companion book, Francesca Marzano-Fritz provides a thorough treatment of the Majors. Her insights are sharp, accessible, and profound. However, only key phrases are included for the Minors and Courts.
If you're a fan of artist Salvador Dali or collage decks in general, I'd be very surprised if you weren't seduced and enamored by the Rohrig Tarot. Surrealistic and symbolic, this deck captures the senses and stimulates the imagination. It's probably not a good working deck for those new to the tarot, but the Rohrig Tarot is a must-have for those who collect art decks. Personally, this deck doesn't work well for me in terms of readings, however, I've found the cards to be fantastic for contemplation-and I can see how they'd work great for journaling, as well.

Visually Stunning - Alas, Just Too Big to Work With.......2003-07-02
****
Visually, this is the most stunning deck I have ever seen. I am more of a Tarot Card collector than a Tarot Card reader, so I cannot really say how accurate the readings are with this deck. What I can say is WOW! What art! Everyone I have shown it to was also stunned by how great the artwork is. If the deck were close to a size that an average human can actually shuffle, I would say it is my favorite deck. Maybe someone could prevail upon the producers of this deck to come out with it in a pocket size version, as US Games has done for the Rider-Waite and the Crowley-Thoth decks -- or at least something closer to the standard-sized Tarot deck. This deck is not for the traditionalist or the feminist (or prude) who is upset by nude human anatomy -- in other words, if you don't like adult images or if you are afraid of a modern reinterpretation of Tarot's ancient symbolism, stay away from this deck. On the other hand, if you want a deck with images containing all the power of the Crowley deck but little of the darkness of that deck, this one is for you.

Outstanding companion to the deck.......2005-11-16
This book is an outstanding companion to the visually compelling deck. I highly recomend both, as long as you like a little of the modern (very German, very 20th century) mixed in with the very old.
Magic Brought To Life!.......2003-09-18
I was skeptikal when I first received this deck a year ago as a gift from a friend; but the very first time i shuffled it the cards literally came to life in my hands! They have such a presence about them, a life of their own. Very powerful cards!
Vibrant colors, images that you can get lost in for hours, and a very alluring energy.
I am very possessive of this deck. I only use it to do readings for myself, and to do Tarot Spells with. It's one of the very few i keep just for me! I thought for sure this would be a mediocre deck at best, boy was i wrong!!
I now have better card readings.......2002-11-21
I originally purchased the cards first. However, whenever I did a spread, I didn't know how to interpret it. This book has been an essential tool and now my friends, family, and co-workers have asked me to do card readings for them.
Thank you.
An excellent companion........2002-11-02
As I said in my review of the Rohrig, this highly sensual, sexual deck has a lot of subtle differences from the Thoth or the Rider. This companion book will help you navigate these shifts flawlessly, providing deeper insight whenever you are doing a serious tarot reading.
Carl's (fairly traditional) cyclic interpritation of the Major Arcana is quite beautiful. I've seen the theory stated many times, but never with quite the same impact as this book had.
A must read for anyone who wants to take their reading of the Rohrig to a higher level.

Customer Reviews:
Unique and fantastic.......2006-05-08
This is not the first deck I have ever worked with, but it is the best. The artwork is exquisite, well rendered, and emotioanlly evocative. Some may say that it is an overly sexualised deck, and even go so far as to say that the use of the human body ofrm may even be gratuitous. I disagree, for it speaks to me in an entirely differnt language, and really, when you are chosing a deck, it all about how it speaks to you, isnt it? For me, the art work is divinly feminine, not in a sexual, objectified manner, but more so as to convey the sacred creative and symboliv poweres of the human woman. They are dressed differntly as well, but each outfit depicts a different aspect or charachteristic that goes allong with the interpritation of these cards.
I also love the larger size of these cards, the bold, rich colrs and textures, combined mediums in the cards. The Lovers, and the (I believe it is the 9 of swords) Cruelty card are so well done, that after simply loking at them in a shop one day, I knew thay had to be mine.
I have owned many decks in my time, but as far as trying to get a deck to intuitively inspre me to unlock that which I can not unlock by myself, as a tool and a gateway to further knowledge, it gets a big two thumbs up from me.
Very well done........2004-10-02
An unusual Tarot, in that it's based on the Crowley deck rather than the near-universal Rider-Waite-Smith model. Thelemites will probably be especially attracted to the style of this interpretation (technology, sex, and power feature heavily), but nearly anyone can appreciate the excellent artwork. The symbolism overall is well thought out, though again, it might seem odd to those unfamiliar with Crowley's take on the cards. The Fool (pictured on the cover of the deck), in particular, is a brilliant piece of work, both technically and symbolically. For those with a technical interest in artwork, there is an unusual use of collage and texture effects throughout the deck; I'd love to see some of the original art, which I feel probably lost something during the transition to a printed, two-dimensional card format.
Not for everyone,I admit, but it's one of my personal faves.
an aesthetic masterpiece.......2004-04-08
The Rohrig deck happened to be the second deck I ever bought, the original lotr being the first. One complaint I had was that I was missing the Lovers card when I opened it, but the company quickly replaced it for free. The artwork of this deck is absolutely breaktaking and is by far the prettiest deck I currently own. One nice thing about this deck is that it's usually blunt and to the point when giving readings (aside from the rambling soliloquies it gives my one friend), and it's also very friendly in case you ever need to lend a deck to a friend for the weekend. As far as the pictures and symbolisms go, the closest I would compare it to is my Aleister Crowley deck from Italy. The words seem to be the same (according to what italian I actually remember) and the pictures seem to be congruent. As always, I recommend completely ignoring any books it comes with. Also, don't be intimidated by the lack of traditional pictures. I've taught many people with this deck and find it to be excellent for beginners. The size of the cards might be a drawback to some... I do find it insanely difficult to shuffle. And the sexual aspect of the cards might be offensive to some. The Prince of Cups for instance contains every male and female body part imaginable. Still, these are very subjective drawbacks and the overall quality of the deck more than makes up for it.
Aesthetically pleasing, but not traditional............2003-08-22
This is a difficult deck for beginners. The art is evocative, but there is little traditional symbolism here. I am confused at the artist's interpretation of the 2 of Swords as "Peace"; and perhaps switching the images of the Empress and Princess of Disks cards would have made more sense.
Clearly, the artist is wishing to impart to us that sex is a divinely sanctioned act, not to be confused with our lower urges. As this seems to be a main theme, I would not recommend this deck for anyone with sensitivity to the artistic rendering of genitalia.
Overall, this is a fascinating deck, and one that encourages readers to use the Tarot intuitively. To fully appreciate the artist's intent behind each image, I recommend purchasing the companion book.
Gorgeous but somewhat limiting.......2002-08-28
This was the first deck I picked up, when first learning to read the cards. The images are so gorgeous and really "spoke" to me. I particularly liked the Emperor and the Princess of Wands cards. After working with the Rider deck to learn "the fundamentals" for about a year, I picked this deck up again to use in readings. At this point, I have 2 small complaints-I feel that the one word synopsis at the top of each card is somewhat limiting. The images are powerful enough to stand alone. Also, the racecar as the chariot really annoys me (clever, but doesn't convey much of the meaning of the chariot to me). Other than that, this is my second favorite deck (my favorite being a deck I ordered directly from Italy). The cards are somewhat oversized which makes shuffling difficult for someone with small hands (like me). The book (not the LWB, but a separate book) does not provide additional insight beyond the LWB which comes with the deck, in my opinion. I'd give this deck a 5 for aesthetic value but a 4 for ease of use in readings. Take my review for what it's worth, I'm still very much of a novice in reading the cards.

Great book for the price. A little high in shipping using Media Mail though.
"Great" book about a "Great" breed.......2003-04-14
I found this book extremely helpful it cover just about everything. I strongly recomend it.
A good book but not what it proposes to be.......2001-11-13
I think this is an excellent book for an overview of Great Danes and the considerations in deciding to own one. Making the decision to get a giant breed is a big one and this book is great for considering all that comes along with that. I would say it's better for people to read BEFORE deciding whether to buy a Great Dane to prepare and make sure you're up for all that's involved, but as far as a complete book for a Great Dane owner, I would recommend getting a book that has more specifics on the various topics rather than just an overview. This is NOT a one and only book for the Great Dane owner.
Informative and a quick read.......1999-10-05
A good, easy to read overview of the Great Dane. Enjoyed it. Helped me prepare for being a first time Dane owner, and left me with a very good idea of what to expect.
Not bad but..........1999-07-06
This was pretty good and i will use it as a reference, but i was a little frustrated with the book. Throughout almost the entire middle section instead of answering very important questions on the topic of the chapter, he would just say "check with your great dane mentor for information on...." - feeding, bloat, purchasing, etc, etc etc. I got this book to get this guys opinion not for him to tell me to check with someone else. I did think that the sections on training were good.

Book Description
The neokoroi, or 'temple-wardens,' were Hellenized cities of the eastern Roman empire who received that title for possessing their provinces' temples to the living emperor. This work collects and analyzes all the evidence for the neokoroi, including their coins and inscriptions, contemporary and subsequent historical texts, and the archaeological remains of the temples themselves and the statues that stood within them. There were at least thirty-seven neokoroi, and each is examined in a separate chapter. The results are then re-analyzed chronologically, clarifying the development of the institution. Finally the statues, temples, cities, and provinces are compared, resulting in new insights into the rivalry and hierarchy among the cities, and the dialogue of worship that related them to their Roman overlords.
