The detailed maps are great but guys...no use looking for a road map of Maine, I mean the whole state as it doesn't exist: incredible! so do order a map in addition!!

This is a good map if your going to Maine. The only thing I think they should add is more street maps of the towns down the coast. We had to buy them when we got there.

I strongly recommend this product for anyone visiting Maine and unfamiliar with roads and highways in that state. We found the Atlas very helpful in finding the shortest routes and alternate routes over traffic-clogged route 1.

Appallingly inaccurate!.......2007-03-24

If I could give this book zero stars I would. This book came highly recommended as a great way to introduce Egyptian History to children. I was stunned to read the book only to find it was horridly inaccurate! While I realize this is supposed to be historical fiction, at least some attempt at historical accuracy should have been attempted. Not every parent has an interest or knowledge of Egyptian History so many wouldn't notice, but since this book is reccomended by at least two homeschool curricula, and parents expect the authors of those curricula to have at least passing knowledge of the history they are teaching, I think fair warning is needed.

According to this book, Tutankhamen was the son of Amenhotep III.
Amenhotep III was actually Tutankhamen's grandfather. Tutankhamen was the son of Amenhotep IV, Akhenaten. Not Amenhotep IV's younger brother as portrayed in the book. Also, Akhenaten didn't die after a short time as Pharaoh, he ruled for at least 17 years. About the only thing the book got correct was that Akhenaten did change the religion from poly-theism to mono-theism and that Egypt was returned to poly-theism after Tutankhamen became Pharaoh.

If you are looking to teach your children Egyptian History, and want accurate Egyptian History, skip this one.

not what i expected.......2007-01-12

I love Robert Sabuda but this boring story and equally boring pop ups are not worthy of his usual high-quality items. It appears to me that this was done to make a quick buck for the holiday seasons.

Splendid Egyptian Art.......2006-02-13

I love Robert Sabuda's work and this is no exception! The problem with trying to interest young children in ancient history is that little is written in biographical fashion for young readers. Apart from encyclopedia or fact books, there are few good books on the ancient civilisations. It is therefore refreshing that Sabuda has put together this story about a boy king. It is made even more gorgeous by the artwork which painstakingly recreates the art of that great civilisation on papyrus-like backgrounds. Check out also Saint Valentine by the same author.

As to a reviewer's comment that Amazon should make it clear that this is not a pop-up book, I would have thought that the price tag (at 6.99) and the fact that it is a paperback book should have made this self-evident! That's not reason enough to bring down this book's rating!

Tutankhamen's Gift.......2006-02-01

I was disappointed that this book was not a pop-up as Robert Sabuda books are usually. The book was too old for a 5 year old but would have been fine if it was a pop-up. The seller's need to make that clear that is not a pop-up.

For Those Deeply Grieving, You Have Found Help.......2002-03-30

Purchasing "Legacies of Love" was perhaps one of the best things I could have done to help me through my grief after losing my precious dog on 3/7/02. It has only been a few weeks, and I listen to Teresa's soothing voice and comforting words every day to get through this "coping" period. Her validation that deep grieving over pet loss is undervalued by many on-lookers and "supporters", but completely normal to those of us grieving, brought a sense of peace during a time when there are so many emotions. Those who have lost their companion(s) and don't know how they will go on, will find Teresa's tapes a tremendous source of comfort and graceful inspiration. Haveing lost my beloved mare in a tragic, unexpected accedent, I have been lost and confused. It can be difficult to find someone who understands just how painful it can be to loose a close friend that happens to have four legs.

Teresa understands. She knows what it is like, and her voice is like a soothing guide to recovery. The tapes are filled with information and guidence, as well as personal experiences. I found them to be profoundly healing as I began to accept her death, and learn to get past coping. If you have experienced the death of your animal friend, you won't be sorry you bought this.

This would also be a welcome gift for those who have lost their animal friends.

This is a wonderful pictorial tribute to the beautiful Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments that make our Christmases brighter! It lists the hundreds of ornaments produced from 1973 to 1993, provides wonderful color photos for each, lists the artist who designed them, and their original list price. It gave me a reference of all of the 'Baby's First Christmas' ornaments from the year that my son was born, so that I could fill in the gaps in my ornament collection. It also depicts special premiere and 'Collector's Club' ornaments that the public doesn't always see. I especially enjoyed the section that displayed an ornament from the 'idea phase' to the 'completed stage'. This Guide is a treasured resource to assist all collectors and a definite 'must have.'

A great resource for south Florida gardeners........2006-01-01

Gardens by the Sea: Creating a Tropical Paradise is an invaluable tool for south Florida gardeners. The photographs are helpful, not just in identification, but in illustrating many of the plants as used in real landscapes. Topics covered include tropical fruits, orchids, and palms, as well as many shrubs and trees specifically suited to the seaside. Wind and salt tolerance are factors clearly in play in this climate, and the book takes care to keep us informed on conditions in which each plant will thrive. As a bonus, the book is beautifully photographed and gives us glimpses over the hedges into some beautiful Palm Beach gardens.

Landscape Resource for South Florida and Related Climates.......2001-09-04

Palm Beach Garden Club put out this book to give those who love gardening and creating a special tropical retreat in their own backyards. The photos are ok as it would be nicer if they showed the landscaping use of the plants in some photos instead of showing the plant so you see what it looks like. Excellent resource for those in South Florida. However, Tropical Gardens and Tropical Plants by William Warren are far better. Yet for the neophite this book isn't bad--I found it a useful reference as long as you don't take the advise from the orchid section

The spontaneous and rapid growth of indigenous African Christianity, especially in South Africa, has undermined the appropriateness of the term "mainline" for the traditional, denominational churches in the area. Some of these churches lost more than twenty-five percent of their membership in the period 1980-1990, while membership of the indigenous churches increased by a similar percentage in the same period. The contributions to this volume are based on grassroots research and each one treats some significant aspect within the life and work of this vast, self-motivating movement, a movement largely ignored for over a century by western-oriented Christianity. The work of these researchers clearly indicates how it is that African Indigenous Churches, with their holistic approach to religion - a feature of traditional African religion - serve as such a dynamic vehicle in effectively addressing the needs of their flocks. A further focus of the essays is on issues faced by these churches within their own church context.

What telling insights!.......2006-01-03

"Mei Jyu" writes with power and style about a sensitive subject. Our copy was borrowed and never returned by a riveted reader... so we just bought a second copy.

It is difficult indeed to speak of such things among Asian Americans, something "Mei" (the author's pseudonym) does well. I think the book hits a bit too close to home for comfort for its readers! Read with expectation but caution!

not worth reading.......2004-12-03

I bought the book because the author, Lee, and her family live in our local community. The person who recommended the book to me told me that it was a tragic story. Before buying the book, I looked up on Amazon.com and could not find any reader comments on the book. If I had known, I would not have spent the money purchasing this book. First of all, the writing and editing was very poor. You have the same sentences repeated back to back. The book could find a publisher only because of its "Christ is my savior" theme which was repeated in nearly every sentence in the introduction. Never lived in China or Asia, the author does not understand the Chinese culture, let alone the general Asian culture. There are many Asian countries and ethnic compositions. I don't think it is even possible to attempt a generic "Asian culture". Only ignorance would prompt someone to make such attempt; or worse, in this case, claim to be an expert on it. Lee's description of stereotype Asian culture was mostly her own imaginary one; it is far apart from the true modern-day Chinese culture. Anyone who ever lives in any part of China (Taiwan included) in recent years would know this. Lee should have described her bazaar upbringing as one that is unique to herself. I am a Chinese American and do not personally know of any family like hers. After all, how many families can produce spelling bees one after another, and even the father was winning spelling bee contests at work and glowing in media coverage?
