Thorough reference book.......2006-10-31

Fodor's Spain 2006 is very useful as a reference book. For planning the trip I wouldn't rely on it alone however. It is best used in conjunction with a guide planning book such as Rick Steve's Spain 2006.

Better than earlier editions.......2006-02-23

This 2006 version is arranged excellently and gives a lot of very detailed information. Like Rick Steves' book, it could use a better index. The Fodor choices are directed more toward the well-heeled traveler and seem to not go to the inexpensive places to stay or eat that must be out there. When we get back we will know for sure.

Mixed feelings about it, overall a good book.......2005-06-18

I have mixed feelings about this book - it is a book packed with info & I imagine it would be very helpful to somebody who had never lived in Arizona & who wasn't already familiar with our native birds. So, if you don't know what the heck a Gambel's Quail is or what they look like, I'd imagine this would be the book for you. On the other hand, as someone who grew up in Tucson I can tell you that you'll still be a long way from finding any birds w/ this book in hand. It has general areas where birds can be found - but nothing that helped me find any more birds in the field than I found have found anyway...as a traveling wingshooter you'd still need another resource to help tell you exactly where to go (whether it be the guy at the gas station in Sonoita or a buddy who hunts doves near Picacho, etc)

I"M A VERY EXPERIENCED HUNTER AND SHOTGUN PERSON AND COULD NOT BELEIVE I WAS READING A BOOK WITH THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT ALL ASPECTS OF THE HUNTING, GUNS, AND SHELLS REQUIRED. MOST BOOKS SHOW THEIR IGNORANCE IN A FEW PAGES, THIS BOOK I COULD NOT PUT DOWN, IT'S THE TRUTH--READ THIS BOOK. PARTON IS MY HERO.

For anyone planning a trip for bird hunting in Arizona this book is the Bible. Up to date and precise on maps, roads, and habitat. I've hunted Arizona quail for 12 years and found his information to be right on the money. I've even picked up a few pointers from his book. Well worth having this book in your arsenal to hunt the very cagey desert quail.

"Arizona Game Birds" by David E. Brown.......2000-02-01

When I first picked up "Arizona Game Birds" a couple of years ago, I looked at it as a serious textbook on Arizona's upland birds (partridges/pheasants, grouse, turkeys, quail, cranes, pigeons and doves). And it certainly is: with it's good-quality black-and-white figures, carefully designed maps, generous captions and an extended bibliography supplemented by a sufficient index, it ranks far above average when compared to similar scientific references. But this book is a lot more than a textbook: it is a unique comprehensive guide offering a straightforward path to both the novice and the expert through the complex, and at times confusing, interaction between the birds and their habitat. The general pattern Brown lays out in his clear, figurative language for each species in terms of life history, distribution, management history and hunting strategies is unsurpassed in the literature, a knowledge and expertise which can only be accumulated through decades of experience in the field as a wildlife biologist, AZ G&F game manager and a hunter. This book has served me as a faithful companion for not only planning hunting trips into new areas, but also to better understand the many biotic communities in the Southwest. Such information does not come easy, and one has to always work for it. Above all, I consider Brown's hunting anecdotes among the best put on paper. Loaded with practical advice and written with respect for the quarry by a true gentleman hunter, these short stories take you right into the field. Read e.g. about Brown looking back to Ward's Dove Night in Tuscon during the early 1970es and you will understand why this fine book is on my shelf standing right next to such classics as Jack O' Connor "Game in the Desert" and Charles A. Sheldon's "Wilderness of the Southwest". May it never go out of print!

A Great Resource For The Flashlight Collector !!.......2000-08-07

This 142 page 5 x 8" paperback book is handy for taking with you when antiquing for flashlights and related collectibles. It features hundreds of large, sharp, full color photos. 1995 values are provided. There is an introduction to the collectible. Many full color catalog and magazine ads, some dating back to 1914 are included and most interesting. There are numerous boxes, displays and packages, in addition to every type of flashlight shown in full color. A great resource.

Ancient medicine teachings.......2004-07-16

The real-life story of the evolution of a modern-day Sioux medicine woman. A very down to earth and inspiring story. Trained by her grandmother and other elders, Mahinto travelled the world until she became ready to return and "take on the mandtle" of the ancient ones. Her pain and suffering led to wisdom. She has helped many women find their true internal powers and strength. Great book and story.

I have not only had the pleasure of reading this book, but meeting the author. A truly amazing 70+ year old woman who has the ability to take her life's lessons and transform them into a prose that will capture anyone who is interested in the American Indian way of life. This "fictional autobiography" was designed not only to be read cover-to-cover, which will keep you turning the pages, but can be opened at random, and within a few sentences you will get a message on how to (or not to) travel The Red Pathway.

The book is filled with every type of emotion: Love, hate, fear, humor and dispicable behavior. All of which show how we are all related, not only on this earth but throughout the universe.

You will not be dissapointed!
