Customer Reviews:
color pages fell off the book within 3 days.......2006-11-10
The rough guide ot morocco is definitely better than the LP guide in terms of its content. But, this particular book, shipped out from amazon, got binding problems. The 10 or so color pages in the beginning of the book all fell off before I reached Morocco. Lucky enough, the rest of the book was intact for the whole trip, enduring my rough treatment. In any case, it might be better to go without the color pages anyway, because they are just picture bearing no help to the trip and weight a little more than the regular paper.
Weak binding.......2006-07-04
I bought this book from amazon.com and then noticed exactly the same edition in my local bookshop for a similar price but in the strong paperback binding (versus the weak paperback binding as sold by amazon).
Good but more on the local language.......2006-02-17
I have no complaints about this guide. It served me reasonably well on my trip to the country. One thing was missing though. Some guidance on the local language. I mean expressions, food, all the things you need when you visit. I tried to use my European French but I was not always understood. A new edition of this guide could include an extended section on the language. That would complement it quite nicely.
The new edition is excellent.......2005-04-17
I have no experience with the previous edition, and until now I only used the Lonely Planet on Morocco, but I did some tests on issues I had found missing in the Lonely Planet and the new Rough Guide passed the test excellently.
For instance the Lonely Planet had hardly anything on the nice road between Taroudant and Ouerzazate, in between two Atlasses, so almost fully skipping saffron paradise Taliouine and carpetters paradise Tazenaght, while the Rough Guide does not assume you will pass that road through Marrakch, which requires crossing the High Atlas twice.
And even on the road from West to East behind the Anti-Atlas through Tissint etc. the Rough Guide has a feature.
It is more weighty than the Lonely Planet, but that is because it has more information, and that is what one eventually needs.
Neil in Amsterdam
Great for the armchair traveler.......2002-11-12
I am not actually planning to visit Morocco, but I like /thinking/ about visiting Morocco. I found this guide literate and insightful.

So You Thought You Knew Your History.......2006-02-25
This is one of the better college texts for American history. The information is straight forward compared to the full text version, and no information is missed between its big brother. The second half highlights from 1865 onward into the 21st century. I would highly reccomend this book for students taking a introductory course in college or AP American History in high school.
Great Overview!.......2005-09-27
This book gives a great overview of the social aspects of U.S. History since 1865. It was rather refreshing to read a history book that was not so narrowly focused on the death and carnage of war in this nation. The wars are discussed, of course, in relative detail, but more weight is placed on how they affected our nation's citizens and society as a whole. The photographs and illustrations were fantastic in revealing how life truly was at a time we often have a hard time imagining, let alone comprehending these days. In addition, I found it really helpful in learning the information and doing well on my exams!
Worst History Book Of All.......2005-09-06
This has got to be the worst and boring history book of all. Throughout my entire years in school reading history book this has to be the worst. It gets so boring you can't even read it if you try. If you did read it, chances are you did not understand them 10 pages. Combining with a horrible professor and book it's going to be one long semester for me.
very left wing bias.......2004-06-04
dont waste your time with this guy. I don't know where he gets his info. My son has one of Mr. Nash's textbooks for history and I have never seen so much left wing bias, especially in a textbook.
Do your own research.......2004-01-09
It's amazing to me to read reviews of people who tout this book as "liberal propaganda" when it merely tells the truth about history. If you wanted the whitewashed version of history we were taught in high school, where Christopher Columbus had pure motives in the new world and didn't rape or enslave the native population, where the Native Americans were savages who were domesticated by the pilgrims who so graciously shared a Thanksgiving feast with them, where Woodrow Wilson's racism and hatred of women isn't mentioned...why did you bother taking a college history course, or bother going to college for that matter, at all? Pull your heads out of the sand! If you truly believe this book is socialist propaganda, I recommend you start doing your own research of America's past without using any high school or college textbook as a source of information - you'll find that this particular textbook has one of the truest pictures of American history available.

Book Description
The rising demand for fish from New York City's growing population before the middle of the nineteenth century gave impetus to commercial fisheries in the metropolitan area. Fishing communities near Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, Long Beach, New Jersey and other areas scurried to find faster and safer boats. Although boatbuilders each developed their own variations, the basic design survived. Ideally functional, the sea skiff was adapted for rum running and as a life saving boat, and by sportsmen for fishing, hunting, racing, and pleasure boating. Today, these boats are used up and down the eastern coastal regions from Main to Florida. Dr. Guthorn shows in illustrations and text, the local development, details of construction, and materials used in building them. Prominent builders are listed with their dates and their particular techniques.

Customer Reviews:
Not for native plant enthusiasts.......2004-08-28
"Low-Water-Use Plants" is a good book for someone interested in landscaping with drought-tolerant plants. Shuler provides excellent plant descriptions and details on garden uses. I would have gotten great use out of this book when I first became interested in low-water-use gardening after purchasing my first house in California. I have now become primarily interested in native plants, however, and Shuler's book only includes a few these. For budding native plant enthusiasts I would recommennd Marjore G. Schmidt's "Growing native California Plants" and Sally Wasowski's "Native Landscaping from El Paso to L.A."
A must-have for desert landscaping libraries!.......2000-07-01
I found out about this book from a class that I took at the Desert Botanical Gardens here in Phoenix. It is a great addition to Judy Mielke's book, Native Plants for Soutwestern Landscapes and Mary Rose Duffield's book, Plants for Dry Climates. Carol Shuler has some great charts toward the back of the book on trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and accent plants. I love the section on horticulture which covers some basic design principles. There are also lots of great pictures throughout and great explanations of many types of plants.

Book Description
This volume documents the proceedings of the 8th International Symposium on Particles on Surfaces: Detection, Adhesion and Removal held in Providence, Rhode Island, June 24--26, 2002. The study of particles on surfaces is extremely crucial in a host of diverse technological areas, ranging from microelectronics to optics to biomedical. In a world of shrinking dimensions and with the tremendous interest in various nanotechnologies, the need to understand the physics of nanoparticles becomes quite patent. With the interest in and concern with nanoparticles comes the need for new and more sensitive metrological and analysis techniques to detect, quantitate, analyze and characterize very small particles on a host of substrates.
This volume contains a total of 21 papers covering many ramifications of particles on surfaces. All manuscripts were rigorously peer-reviewed and all were revised and properly edited before inclusion in this volume. The book is divided into two parts: Particle Analysis/Characterization and General Cleaning-Related Topics and Particle Adhesion and Removal. The topics covered include: nature and characterization of small particles; surface and micro-analytical methods for particle identification; haze as a new method to monitor nano-sized particles; particle transport and adhesion in ion-beam sputter deposition process; particle deposition during immersion rinsing; ice-air blast cleaning; rectangular jets for surface decontamination; factors important in particle adhesion and removal; mechanics of nanoparticle adhesion; particle adhesion on nanoscale rough surfaces; various techniques for cleaning or removal of particles from different substrates including wet cleaning, use of modified SC-1 solutions, use of surfactants, ozonated DI water, ultrasonic, megasonic, laser, energetic clusters; and post-CMP cleaning. This volume, together with its predecessors, will be of immense value to anyone interested in the world of particles on surfaces, and will serve as a resource for information on contemporary R&D activity in this extremely technologically important area.

Book Description
With this critically acclaimed 1940 memoir, pioneering Japanese writer and activist Ayako Ishigaki made history. Restless Wave is the first book written in English by a Japanese woman, introducing Western readers to a largely unknown world; a unique voice; and a writer of great talent, integrity and courage. In exquisite prose, Ishigaki recalls coming of age in a privileged family and rebelling against strict codes of women's behavior. She also traces the political awakening that would force her to flee Japan for the United States and would eventually make her an internationally renowned activist for peace, social justice and women's rights. As The Nation noted, "In lyrical, poetic terms, Restless Wave tells the story of a single individual who lived at a turning-point of history."
Customer Reviews:
Remarkable memoir, remarkable woman.......2007-10-19
Ayako Ishigaki's wonderful fictionalized memoir is revealing for it's sometimes subtle, sometimes angry, and sometimes tender treatment of the both the culture she was born into and the culture she experienced in the U.S. It's also a remarkable historical document that presents views of Japanese women that may startle the reader. The writing is fluid and engaging. You can read it easily in a day or two.
Wonderful Unknown Gem.......2006-04-03
I picked this book up on a recommendation from a friend interested in anything Japanese and I'm quite happy I did. If you're sick and tired of reading about geisha, or if you like geisha but are interested in expanding your horizons and reading about the lives and struggles of other Japanese women who haven't been given a story, you owe it to yourself to read this book.
Ayako Ishigaki gives voice in her memoir to post war Japanese women, fighting against the stereotypes and mixed messages sent to them via eastern vs western ideals. What's most intriguing about this is that I can still see this struggle played out today in the way female characters are portrayed in certain manga and anime; it gives a lot of context to modern day stories, and shows just how far Japanese women still have to go to be portrayed as humans and not mere objects of desire/ fetish.
Lest you think this story sounds too high brow, never fear: its easy to understand and read on the subway or after a hard day of work. The writing is simple, clean, and flows well. If nothing else, the tidbits of Japanese culture and traditions (post and pre war) and the personal ancedotes of the author interjected in the story will stay with you long after the last page.
Enjoy *(^_^)*
