Book Description
Once again, Let's Go's young and budget-savvy researchers have left no stone unturned to bring you the real deal on one of the most culturally rich and dynamic countries in the world. Completely revised and updated, Let's Go Mexico features expanded coverage of art, culture, and nightlife, as well as unrivaled information about ecotourism and how to be a socially conscious traveler. This year's guide also has the inside scoop on why to skip Cancun, but why Copper Canyon is a necessary stop to roundnbsp;out any trip to Mexico. So whether you'd rather explore the largest national reserve in the world or relax on the untouristed beaches of Bahio Kino, Let's Go can show you the way to what's fun, what's fresh, and what's free.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-09-09
it was an excellent choice. I wanted to buy it because last one I had gotten was 2001. This got new prices but not the newest ones.
Good but cheap-feeling.......2007-07-09
The content in the book is pretty good, though I'd prefer more meat and potatoes and less unnecessary discussion. It is interesting reading, but I prefer guide books to be more utilitarian. It also has a cheap feel to it--the paper is thin, sort of like newspaper. Lonely Planet feels sturdier, yet is thinner and has the same things to say. Let's Go also sells far too many advertisements in the book. I would understand seeing an ad every other page if it were free, but I paid for it and expect very few (if any) because of that.
Let's Go is the WAY TO GO.......2007-03-24
I've been using Let's Go guides since college (over tens years ago), and they never disappoint. From great tested recommendations of places to eat, sleep, or sightsee, I know that Let's Go will steer me clear of tourist traps or dangerous situations abroad. My partner and I will be travelling to Cancun in mid-June, and have used Let's Go to plan all of our excursions, from scuba diving, to snorkelling, to bull-fight watching, to daytrips around the Yucatan peninsula. I highly recommend this book!
Good for some, perhaps, but not for others.......2006-11-28
I didn't really gain much insight as to the types of activities I was hoping to explore in Mexico (Chiapas). Granted, there is a good deal of info regarding museums and markets in Let's Go, but not very much regarding ecotour and other outdoor pursuits, which don't get much mention at all in this guide. If you're looking for info regarding hotels and cultural attractions, Let's Go may be a good choice. If you're looking for info regarding ecotourism, outdoor activites, and other such things that may be a little off the beaten path, Rough Guide or Lonely Planet is probably the better buy.
This is your guide if you are trying to visit Mexico on your lunch money. .......2006-02-22
"Let's Go Mexico" has been running with the big dogs (Rough Guide & Lonely Planet) for years and it is the best guide out for those on a "starving student" budget.
There is a great section at the beginning of the book, "Discover Mexico", which has five suggested itineraries - excellent. The "Beyond Tourism" chapter will help those looking for volunteer opportunities, environmental preservation, social action, teaching English and studying everything from language to college level courses. These two sections alone are worth the price of the book.
The authors will find you the best rock bottom, dirt cheap, bargain basement, lowest price possible accommodations and restaurants to match. The accommodations listed in this guide span from under $10 to $25 plus. Where the guide has the "thumbs-up" symbol near the listing it is worth checking it out.
There are restaurants in the guide for $2 (this doesn't include your beer) and these eateries have very good food! The guide was written by six "research-writers" so one geographical area can be better described than another. I found the descriptions of both the accommodations and eateries to be very brief and not as informative as the upscale guide ,"Frommer's" (a very good guide for Mexico - strongly recommended). However, you still get enough information to make a discerning choice.
For those who love "Nightlife" (bars & clubs), the "Let's Go Mexico" guide is the best out today... especially for the young crowd. All of their recommendations, including the bars and clubs, are easy to find on fairly decent maps.
Bottom line: This is guide is especially valuable if you are trying to explore Mexico on your lunch money. Happy Trails. Highly Recommended.

Book Description
Many books have been written about the 1st Duke of Marlborough's famous victories, but none of the previous studies has really concentrated on how the warfare was perceived by the men and women who took part - those who experienced the action at first hand. James Falkner has brought together a vivid selection of contemporary accounts of every aspect of the war to create a panoramic yet minutely detailed picture of those years of turmoil.
The story is told through memoirs, letters, official documents, dispatches, newspaper reports and eyewitness testimony from the French and Allied sides of the conflict.
His linking narrative provides a penetrating analysis of the strategy and tactics of warfare at the time.
Book Description
Discover the Renaissance -- an age of experimentation, creativity and discovery.
Here is a stimulating introduction to the world of the Renaissance -- from the achievements of Leonardo da Vinci to everyday life in an Italian city-state. Filled with superb, full-color photographs of works of art and beautiful artifacts, Leonardo brings the Renaissance to life, offering a unique "eyewitness" view of this exciting period of history. See Leonardo's design for exploding cannonballs, inside a Renaissance home, the original platform shoes, and one of the first pocket watches. Learn how one family dominated a city for more than two centuries, how gold leaf was applied to altarpieces, when mirrors were first used, and why the ancient world was an inspiration for the modern one. Discover how the invention of the printing press changed the world, how apprentices made pigments from ground beetles, why glue was used as a beauty aid, why Leonardo studied a bird's wing to make a flying machine, and much, much more!
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Eyewitness Book! .......2005-04-21
This is one of the best Eyewitness books. It taught me a lot not only about Leonardo DaVinci but also about the beginning of the Renaissance. The focus on Italy was quite illuminating and I wonder why this topic is rarely introduced in school K-12. Usually one has to wait until high school if not college to learn about the time period. This book is a great introduction for students and I will share it with mine.

Book Description
Before the word dinosaur was even invented, an English girl discovered a remarkable skeleton on the rocky beach at Lyme Regis. Thus began a lifelong passion for the woman who became one of the first commercial fossil collectors. Mary Anning (17991847) spent her lifetime teaching herself about fossils and combing the rugged shore for ancient treasures. Her collection thrilled the public, excited the scientific community, and proved that a woman could overcome danger and social limitations to accomplish great things.
Customer Reviews:
When Mary was a Little Girl, She Discovered a Dinosaur.......2005-05-05
Mary Anning was born to a poor family and grew up on Great Britain's southern shores. Her cabinetmaker father helped support his family by finding and selling fossils from the Jurassic period which were abundant in that area. He died when Mary was only eleven, but she'd learned his fossil finding skills. Mary is credited with finding the first ichthyosaur fossils when she was eleven year old. This book, by Don Brown, as wonderful as the others he's done about amazing women, shows young readers Mary's childhood and the hardships she had to rise above. It's a perfect book for any dinosaur loving child. After all, they should know how we know about the great beasts that roamed the earth so long ago.
Like Mr. Brown's other books, this is written for a child a bit older than my son's almost three years, but we, Devon and I, go over this book a lot and when he is reading, and the good Lord willing, that won't be too much longer. This is one of the books he's going to be reading. If you've got a young child and you want to open the world of reading to him or her, you cannot go wrong with a book written and illustrated by Don Brown.

Terific illustrations, inspiring book.......2003-08-04
I have used this book (and others by Don Brown) to support a "Famous People" unit I teach in my 2nd grade classroom. I love the illustrations in this book and the inspiring and interesting text. This book would be especially (but certainly not exclusively) appealing for children interested in prehistoric times.
Rare Treasure: Mary Anning and her Remarkable Discoveries.......1999-12-18
Having loved all of Don Brown's previous work, I was happy to see that this work was highly praised by Pulitzer Prize-winner Natalie Angier in the New York Times Book Review. Rare Treasure was even better than the first books: historically accurate, engaging, and beautifully illustrated. Brown is able to write simply and humanistically about remarkable people, in a way that allows the young reader to relate. He spoke at my daughters' elementary school, and both kids and parents are still talking about his work. Bravo! Don Brown, write more!
My kids loved it........1999-12-16
My 4 year old son and 6 year old daughter just love the book. It's a great inspiration.
Beautiful Book for kids and parents.......1999-12-05
This is an inspirational story beautifully told. Kids will love the story brought to life with Don Brown's luminous illustrations. My 4-year old dinosaur-crazed nephew loves this story and the pictures as much as his older sisters. Another excellent book from Don Brown.

Customer Reviews:
Great gift.......2006-01-06
I originally bought this book as a gift for my mother who lives in New Mexico. She then bought two additional copies for her friends living in the area. While you can't really grow much at high altitude in New Mexico, the book did provide some realistic suggestions and help choosing what might grow.
Book Description
As the world heats up and we become more and more conscious of our place in the natural scheme, the appeal of the native plants of the Southwest becomes ever more compelling for gardeners. In addition to providing year-round beauty with relatively little maintenance, landscaping with native plants contributes to the repair of the natural ecosystem and brings us closer to our environment—and the array of native plant material available to the Southwestern gardener is diverse and spectacular, providing seemingly endless opportunities for creative and attractive landscapes.
In Landscaping with Native Plants of the Southwest, George Oxford Miller provides the definitive guide to choosing the best of the best among the native plants of Arizona and New Mexico. Covering wildflowers, shrubs, trees, vines, groundcovers, and cacti, this comprehensive, richly illustrated book selects the species whose ornamental qualities, growth habit, adaptability, maintenance needs, and beauty add up to the highest landscape value. The illustrations, maps, and charts provide guidelines for species selection and planting, ongoing maintenance, landscape design, and water and energy conservation. In-depth plant profiles describe the habitat requirements for more than 350 native plant species, subspecies, and varieties, with lush photographs illustrating how each plant looks and responds to landscape conditions.
As the interest in native-plant landscaping and xeriscaping continues to grow, this book will find a place on the shelf of every gardener and landscaper in the region—or of anybody interested in recreating the beauty of the Southwest in a hot, dry corner of the yard.
Customer Reviews:
An invaluable reference........2007-07-09
Any residing or gardening in the southwest will find Landscaping with Native Plants of the Southwest an invaluable reference, as will libraries catering to Southwest residents. It covers not just domestic plants but wildflowers, trees, and cacti, offering a compendium of 'top picks' chosen and rated for their best ornamental and growth qualities and including maps and charts as guidelines for planting, maintenance and landscape design. Over 350 native plant species, subspecies and varieties are detailed and as interest in xeriscaping arises, any area interested in low-water planting will find it of interest.
Landscaping with Native Plants of the Southwest.......2007-05-13
As an environmental horticulturist in the Coachella Valley of California, I can strongly recommend this book as a very helpful desert garden guide. The plants and suggestions in the book are very good if one keeps in mind their location, elevation and soil type. I especially like that Miller gives the minimum water tolerance of individual plant species as most desert guides written in Arizona/New Mexico recommend too little water for sandy soils of the Coachella valley. California is not included as part of the southwest but those of us gardening in southeastern California know that we have much more in common horticulturally with southern Arizona than with the rest of our State. This book is one of only a half dozen good desert garden guides.Native Plants for Southwestern Landscapes
Stick with your own kind..........2007-05-10
This softcover Southwest Native Plant guide encourages the use of native plants for landscaping and contains information on landscaping for various purposes, such as attracting wildlife, and energy and water conservation. Great photos and contains lots of gardening advice.
