More helpful than many others..........2004-07-07
I checked this out of the library, then had to buy my own copy to take with me. Not only is the history interesting, but it's honest about the prices and quality of food, lodging, and places to see. It makes planning an itinerary very easy. And the pictures are simply stunning!
Fun!.......2002-11-06
Just reading the history about Seattle is enjoyable before you arrive. I thought the suggestions on what to do and how to save were great. With little time to spare we had loads of fun using the book as our guide. Enjoy!
Customer Reviews:
Seattle is expensive.......2007-08-28
My wife and I have traveled the world to all but four countries using Lonely Planet and as always Lonely Planet is the only book to travel with. A bit of information on Seattle travel expenses. For a USA city, Seattle is very expensive to visit (about 38% more than the average USA city). We have friends of 40 years who relocated to Seattle and they too say it is expensive. Eating for two in a standard lunch restaurant is going to cost $60 (with gratuity).
I spent two months researching Seattle rooms (talking with hotel concierges and club member services). All room rates are hiked 40% for the summer months (May-mid Sept). All the rooms are small in square footage - similiar to NYC. The lodging with the largest rooms is Springhill Suites by Marriott on Yale Avenue. This was confirmed by fellow experienced travelers we met at Springhill - having done the same research as myself.
Due to their major highways (I-5, and others) needing to be wider I would opt to stay in downtown otherwise you will spend 30% of your time in the car. If you want to travel to Vancouver Island (during the summer season)- make your reservations a month in advance.
Their intra bus service does not provide good information on their web. Inside the inner city, all bus service is free (due to their lack of parking facilities and too many cars). On the weekend (Fri-Sun) one can purchase a weekend on-off pass for $1.50 - if you are traveling outside the inner city. Inner city is from Anthony's Seafood (excellent food and lowest priced in the city) to the Seahawk's stadium. There is still plenty of the city outside this area - and the rooms are less expensive on the fringe of the inner city.
Seattle is a beautiful city, and we will visit again. But one needs some money to visit.
Trustworthy, as all Lonely Planet guides are.......2007-03-15
This book is perfect to guide you through the must see sights and the restaurants that are convenient. As always, Lonely Planet proves to be very reliable.

Illuminating the crannies of this thriving metropolis with sound advice and bright folios of color photographs, Lonely Planet's Seattle is sure to reward visitors who seek the city's secretive side as well as those drawn to more standard sights.
Organizing "Things to See & Do," "Places to Stay," "Places to Eat," "Entertainment," and "Shopping" sections largely by neighborhood, this guide gives the reader a true feel for the city as well as a helpful orientation. Pithy sidebars scattered throughout cover a gamut of topics, from "Totem Poles of the Northwest Coast," to "Seattle on the Web," to "Body Art & Accessories." A nice inclusion is the "Excursions" section, which suggests outings and day trips to nearby places such as the San Juan Islands, Mount Rainier, and the Olympic Peninsula. With 20 pages of superb maps, Seattle introduces not only one of the Northwest's great cities, but the stunning region that surrounds it.--Byron Ricks

Helps you avoid tourist traps.......2003-01-04
One of the nice things about the Lonely Planet guides is that they are very good about telling you which things are just tourist traps and which are genuinely worth seeing. I don't think I've yet run into any bad recommendations from this guide, and now that I live in Seattle (I bought the book several years before moving here), I've had pretty good opportunity to try out a lot of their suggestions.
There is lots of good information about interesting spots in many of Seattle's vibrant neighboorhood communities besides just the downtown and Pioneer Square areas. I also appreciated the information on various points of architectural interest, which has made me want to chase down another book about Seattle's architecture.
If you want to get to know Seattle beyond just the touristy stuff that every visitor to Seattle has seen (Pike's Place, the Needle, etc.), you can't go wrong with this book. Even if you are already familiar with Seattle, there is much you can learn from this book -- I intend to try out more of their recommended day trips to the surrounding areas soon!
For all visitors of Seattle!.......2001-10-05
I bought this book for about 7 months when I was in Seattle for a week. The book has only 200 pages, so that europeans can read the whole book during the fly. The book give you detailed information about facts about and around Seattle. A quickly reference about the history of Seattle can be founded here, but also information about the economy, arts, language and culture. There is a section of 20 pages with color maps needed for a good orientation. This book is highly recommended for all people travelling to Seattle.

Great for residents too.......2000-10-18
As a resident of the area, I have say that this book is a great asset to my bookshelf. I often find myself looking through the book to find new and exotic things to do around the city. Sometimes it is more useful than using the phonebook because there are tidbits on culture, restaurant styles, and where the best places are to rent bikes, canoes, and rollerblades. When friends or relatives visit, I lend them the book so they can easily find the things they need around town. I highly reccommend this book to any traveler heading to the Seattle area!!!!!
Lonely Planet Offers Great Seattle Insight.......2000-05-02
The Lonely Planet Guide to Seattle is a great asset to anyone headed to the Emerald City. We found our transportation from the airport, hotel, restaurants and shops all from this book. And the trip was wonderful. The information is up to date and the maps are accurate. I relied so heavily upon this guide for my trip over a year ago, I plan to purchase another for my mother, who is headed to Seattle with me soon. This book helped to convince me that the Emerald City is definitely a place I look forward to calling home soon. Thank you Lonely Planet.

The Viking Chest.......2006-02-01
With the exception of the longboat, this product was great. The historical information was very detailed. The map was interesting since we are studying early exploration of the New World. We also enjoyed learning about the Viking religion. Very interesting!
I bought this item with the intention of supplementing our studies with a fun activity. It sat on the shelf until we were ready for it. Today we put together the longboat and the sundial. We couldn't find the "circle of card" for the sundial, but I cut a circle out of an index card and it worked perfectly. Sometime this week we will label the sundial with the hours.
We also played the Viking game. The game, Hnefatafl, is a lot of fun and will probably be finding a new, sturdier game board soon so that it can be a regularly played game in our home.
My son placed all the stickers on the map and onto the mythology/religion page with ease. It was very interesting and kept his attention while I was struggling with the longboat. The longboat was part of the reason I purchased this item, and the most difficult thing to put together. It is not something an 8 yr old can handle unless he/she is used to making models. The cardboard was difficult to glue together (which we did not know glue was required until after reading through the directions ~ paste or glue stick will not work) and had to be clamped together with paperclips in order to dry. If you do not have paperclips, you will have to hold it together after each step with your hands until it dries. This makes for a long, possibly two day, build. I had allotted an hour, which clearly wasn't enough time to complete the longboat project. Four hours later, I am writing this review, and waiting for the glue to dry on the deck of the boat. I will have to reglue the stern as it has come undone (again). I also should mention that extra care must be taken with the oars. The oars have a narrow section where they hook into the longboat, and can easily break off. We have already accidentally broken 3 of our oars. Tomorrow, we will see about repairing the boat.
We are also saving the runes until tomorrow. I am really looking forward to learning about the runes. We are planning on writing letters to each other using them. I may try to make a game out of it, like a scavenger hunt in code.
What I thought would be the best part has turned out to be the most difficult, and the Viking game, Hnefatafl, has become the best in its stead. I should have known! My son adores chess. If you like chess, you will enjoy this game.
Toy with history........2001-06-02
This treasure chest contained a surprising array of information and activities. My husband and I loved playing "King's Table" so much, we are now making our own board to go with the pieces. A good interactive introduction to Norse culture. Lynn Hughes' review of this product was very descriptive and accurate.
Viking treasures - game, ship, runes, history, and more!.......1999-01-10
This sturdy box comes with its own key and contains a delightful variety of Viking information and paraphernalia. There is a light cardboard Viking ship to assemble, a Hnefatafl game (a good board game for 2) with plastic pieces based on the Lewis chessmen, a sundial that needs to be calibrated for your location (directions included), cardboard runes and information about their use in divination, 2 posters (1 each on history and on mythology), and a small book that gives a good introduction to the Viking world. It's more than one rainy day's fun and should appeal to a wide age range. The board game is an excellent strategy game for all ages through adult and will be played long after the ship has disintegrated and the posters have lost their novelty.

Good sound fundamentals for training young horses to ride!!.......2006-02-21
This is the real deal!!!!!!!!!!!! Not a bunch of crap like the popular "horse whisperer" fad that showed up after the movie.
Kevil is focused, methodic, and safety minded........2002-02-11
This book is well organized, taking the reader (and student) through Kevil's method of training young horses in clear concise steps and easily understood writing paired with step by step photos. What I find most useful are the tricks he includes for keeping the trainer and the horse as safe as possible through the process. This book is fairly priced for the quality, useful information it contains.
Great Information, good pictures, step by step process........1998-11-19
This book has given me the knowledge to start my colt off myself saving me hundreds of dollars on professional training. The step by step process and the pictures are very informational. I like that there are pictures to show what exactly they are doing. The author shows that not all horses are a "dream" to train and shows that some do protest to what is being done. It is a true representation. I recommend this book to someone who has been afraid to try it themselves. It can really help you to become proficiant from the start and help build the respect and bond you need from your horse.

There is no question that gardening inspires creativity and playfulness. A full measure of both is captured in this book on garden accessories. Giant bronze frogs standing erect and playing the sax and cello, sunflowers sporting hats, fence posts sprouting gloves, and a bench with undulating serpent arms are just a few of the compelling images captured in the many color photographs.
Gardeners tend to be eccentrics, and it looks as if the gardeners in this book have fully indulged their visions, making the very best kinds of personal gardens. While many of the ideas are large and expensive, such as Italian stone follies carved into huge mask faces topped with bridges, or gazing balls eight feet in diameter, many more are simple and easy to emulate. Many of the lightest touches are created with paint or found objects--trellises woven of twigs, fences built of old shovels and rakes, a shed roof painted cobalt blue, or a scarecrow dressed up in bohemian duds including shawl and beret. What makes all these delightful ideas work is that they are buried amid flower borders or set onto pedestals on smooth expanses of emerald lawn--what better backdrop could any flight of whimsy ask for than a beautiful garden? --Valerie Easton
Book Description
If it sometimes seems that gardening is all work and no play, here's the book that will turn that canard on its head. Garden Whimsy is an entertaining look at the lighter side of gardening -- a refreshing change from how-to books on composting and double-digging. When author Tovah Martin lectures, her talk on garden whimsy is the one her audiences like best. This book brings her marvelous stories, illustrated by Richard Brown's stunning photographs, to the wider audience that has come to appreciate this talented team. So what is whimsy, botanically speaking? It may be as subtle as an inscription on a sundial or as noticeable as a child-size lighthouse. Birdhouses and scarecrows are favorite subjects, and so are topiary animals, capricious gates, and fences topped with the gardener's collection of blackbirds, kitchen utensils, or gardening gloves. It is eccentric, askew -- in short, whatever strikes a witty gardener's fancy. Best of all, it will inspire the reader to go and do likewise.

Customer Reviews:
Just as it says "Whimisical".......2007-02-19
I like this book and give the authors high marks for their thorough explanation at the beginning of supplies and their uses/applications. The projects are very lively and fun. Lots of color and dots. Most use the stencils also designed by the authors but one can duplicate them free hand or pick similar themes at a craftstore. Most of the projects I would do but the last few that had to do with modifying terra cotta plant pots into functional art I could do without. Overall its a good book.
Painted Whimsies.......2006-03-15
It was exactly what I was looking for. I had seen some of it on Carol Duvall Show so I know what I was getting.
Seattle Reader.......2003-04-19
I love, love, love the ideas in this book - all of the projects are very lighthearted and fun. I only wish they had given the measurements of the wood pieces they painted on - there are no specifics for the painted trays, etc. Also, many of the projects need additional purchases such as stencils, which are pretty expensive on the website info they furnish. But, the projects are cheerful and bright - and really cute. They give very detailed directions for painting on metal, wood, clay pots, etc. You'll be motivated..........
Book Description
In business under a variety of names since the mid-nineteenth century, the George Wade pottery in Burslem, England, has produced many forms of ceramic items. Wade is perhaps best known, however, for their delightful series of tiny porcelain animals known as Whimsies. Highly collectible, the Whimsies have been joined over the years by many equally charming miniatures, some sold by the company directly and others distributed as premiums. With over 370 color photos clearly showing over 1,000 items, this book showcases the endearing miniatures produced by Wade from the 1950s to the 1990s, including Red Rose Tea and Tom Smith premiums, Whoppas and Whimsie-land figurines, Nursery Favourites, Happy Families, Disney's Hat Box series, the diminutive Minikins, and many more. Also featured are Wade's highly detailed miniature villages--from England's Whimsey-on-Why to Ireland's Bally-Whim--original Wade boxes and displays, information on color and size variations, company marks, and up-to-date values for all items. A treat for Wade lovers everywhere!
Customer Reviews:
Very Informative Book on Wade Miniatures.......2007-09-22
The book 'Wade Miniatures' (2007) by Diane Baker is a wonderful first book to have if you are starting to collect Wade Miniature Figurines. The color photos are so true to life. Ms Baker includes some history of Wade of England and a current price guide for the figurines.
Most of the figurines included in the book start in the 1950's and continue up to the present. The Wade factory in England however, started out making porcelain pieces in 1810.
Everyone remembers the Red Rose Tea Miniatures that were included in the Red Rose Tea boxes. Those little Miniatures currently range in value from $5.00 to about $20.00 - $30.00. More exquisite pieces can range in value from $50.00 to over $400.00. There is a price range for every level of collector.
I had an older copy of her book from the Library. However, when the 2007 edition came out, I just had to have it as a handy reference guide.
As a novice collector, or for that matter, as an amateur collector, you will find this book to be an invaluable reference guide!
Happy collecting!!
Great!.......2007-03-08
Just what I needed! I have a collection inherited from my mom. I wasn't sure of the value or which pieces belong to which set. This book is very clear. Has great pictures and pricing information. Highly recommended.
wade seller ebay.......2004-11-01
Wade miniatures #2 is the top book on wades red rose tea and miniatures!!!
BEWARE = there is a wade miniatures #3 it is word for word - page for page - price for price THE SAME AS WADE #2 so save money and buy #2 instead of #3,
I hate it when I get ripped off by someone who claims to be giving me an updated price guide on a book I depend on.
this book in either copy is the BEST for miniatures,

Book Description
This book forms a contribution to the vexing question of the origin and growth of the Targum to the Prophets. It provides an in-depth analysis of the Targum of Judges on the basis of new materials (unpublished manuscripts), a new tool (bilingual concordance) and a new method (analysis of consistency). A critical review of previous research concerning the Targum's origin and growth is followed by an analysis and collations of many Western manuscripts, a systematic comparison of the Targum with the ancient translations, a study of its exegetical traditions and a thorough examination of its consistency. On this basis it is suggested that the Targum assumed its basic form in the second century CE, due to the emergency of the rabbinic tradition, but outside the context of the synagogue.
