Customer Reviews:
It worked.......2007-09-26
I was in Berlin for two weeks, and this guide helped a lot. Its not a heavy book, easy to carry in a day bag, and all the tips for sightseeing etc were helpful.
Fantastic! All the Hip, Accurate Information You Need to Visit Berlin.......2006-12-17
I bought this guide before going to Berlin to study German for a summer. I had no experience with Time Out guides before this, but I just knew I was sick of the bland and sometimes out of date recommendations I kept getting from Lonely Planet guides and ready for something new. Well, what a great decision--I lived in Berlin for 11 weeks, and this guide was the only thing I ever needed. Ideal for the 20-40ish crowd, it definitely has a younger, more hip (or maybe "cosmopolitan" is a better way to describe it) focus than any guide I'd encountered before, and I loved that. For one thing, because of that kind of focus, I found all these great, inexpensive "art hotels" listed in the book, and the experience of staying in those amazingly unique hotels absolutely made my trip.
The guide also has great suggestions for fun bars and clubs, restaurants and cafes, shopping, and English-language bookstores. The history and sightseeing sections were thorough and fascinating to read, there's a section on the city's fabulously modern architecture, and there's a great guide to museums and art galleries. There are also sections on music (classical and opera), things to do in Berlin with children, sports and fitness, gay and lesbian Berlin, day trips (Potsdam, etc.), overnight trips (Dresden, Leipzig, etc.), and even a section on visiting Hamburg or Prague. Especially important is the guide's directory, which provides basic information about everything from the climate, to driving in Berlin, to health care providers, to public toilets. The vegetarian restaurant suggestions (important to me, personally) were reasonably ample, but as it turned out I mostly lived off falafel from street vendors anyway.
My copy is tattered and written all over after almost three months of continuous use, and I never found a single mistake in the book. Berlin has so many treasures, and this guide helps you to the best of them all. Highly recommended!
Time will tell.......2005-09-29
Time Out's 320-page guide is both compact & comprehensive. I've used it to plan a visit to Berlin & will be in a much better position to assess how well its savvy-sounding advice pans out in actual practice after I've put it to the test. If Rimmer's opinions turn out being ill-informed, I'll post an update. So far, I'm satisfied that for $13 I got good value for money.

Essential for any visitor to Berlin.......2002-11-01
I chose this book from among a dozen others prior to visiting Berlin (and the rest of Germany) this spring. Whereas the Lonely Planet Germany got us around the country, this guide kept us busy in Berlin. It's witty, well written and informative, kind of like the city itself.
Timeout does great job once again..........2002-08-13
Once again Timeout did not disappoint me. I only used this guide while I was in Berlin, and I was able to go and see everything that I wanted to do kein problem. The underground/metro may give you some headaches if you are not familiar with the German system...but I am currently living in Munich, and Berlin's bahn system is much better with only three zones(A, B, C) and the fact that there is an English(No english in Munich) translation means someone knows what they are doing. Some of my personal recommendations in Berlin...Victoria Park in Kreuzberg reminds me of a more peaceful, hardly any tourist Sacre D'Couer in Paris...Reichstag in the evening(go late, but not too late else they will tell you to come back tomorrow...it happened to me), small little red french fry shack on Orangenburger Str...100 to 150 meters on left side(world's greatest fries), and the east side gallery by Ostbahnhof.
You need to have this in Berlin.......2002-07-25
First of all Berlin is my new fave city in the world, and I owe it in part to this great book which really made the whole trip very easy... Better than the other couple of books I bought along, and offered great sugestions.
Best Guide On Berlin.......2001-02-07
This book is a must have if you are interested in exploring Berlin. It provides the reader with more information than any of the several other guides on the city, both in broad strokes and nuances that you will have a hard time finding anywhere else.
Time Out Berlin.......2000-08-16
Just returned from Berlin and found this book to be invaluable. I had three Berlin guidebooks (all recent) and this was the best. Good and up-to-date recommendations. A no-nonsense approach with good insight and a fresh perspective.
Book Description
This up-to-the-minute guide highlights Berlin’s newest attractions, including the Hauptbahnhof, its glamorous new central station; the reopened Deutsches Historisches Museum; and the bizarrely fashionable White Trash Fast Food club and restaurant. In-depth local reviews detail the city’s restaurants, bars, clubs, hotels, museums, shops, and more.

When Time Ran Out.......2000-02-25
This was a very good book about a jewish boy and his family in Germany during the rising of the Nazi's and Hitler. It shows what some of the regular people were doing and how they felt, not to mention how people's views and feelings change.

Book Description
Knights Castles introduces readers to the exciting world of the medieval knight and his entourage. Works from artists such as Paolo Uccello, Lucas Cranach, and Pieter Brueghel the Younger come together to reveal details about the lives of these fascinating men, both on and off the battlefield.
Customer Reviews:
A Beautifully Illustrated Overview of the Middle Ages.......2005-06-20
The title of this book, Knights and Castles, is a little bit misleading, for the contents of the book cover so much more than merely that. The author does write about what it meant to be a knight and live in a castle, but he also covers many aspects of life in Middle Ages Europe (such as life on a farm, games children played, banquets and jousts)in a way that is interesting and easily accessible to young people.
Knights and Castles is one of the "Picture That!" series by Two-Can Press. I love the idea behind this series: the books are illustrated not with modern artist's drawings or photographs of artifacts, but with actual art from the time period. In this case the book is filled with beautiful, detailed paintings from throughout the Middle Ages. Each painting offers fascinating glimpes into another time if attention is paid to the details within.
Books on the Middle Ages abound for young readers, but this one is one of the best. Even as an adult I enjoyed reading it (and looking at the pictures!) immensely. Highly recommended.

Whether you are cultivating a dry, sunny southern slope, or a flat, damp northern plot you can create a garden full of Mediterranean style and sizzling color.
Customer Reviews:
Make Your Own Mediterranean Garden.......2006-01-19
I read much of the book today. I was very impressed with the information the book had in it. I bought the book for a work related project and have recieved enough general information that I feel comfortable planning this type of garden for a client. The book told of many types of plant material that come from that region. I was extremely pleased with how the author wrote about how to amend the soil to make it as close as you can to their soil.

Book Description
This volume deals with the medical and paramedical topics, compiled from the works of Flavius Josephus, the Jewish historian who lived in the first century C.E. in Judea, and later in Rome. The study of medicine from ancient Jewish sources has focused on the Bible and the Talmud, the content of which is primarily theological and cultural. The present work reveals two main trends. Josephus' paraphrase of the Biblical narrative introduced a number of additions and/or discrepancies which bear on medicine. Moreover, his account of the Jewish War and of contemporary political events includes many details related to medicine and hygiene. This book deals with physicians and healers, diseases and epidemics, with surgery, psychiatry and psychology, and with therapeutics. The work concludes with a discussion of medical metaphors and with a sequence of detailed treatments of topics including suicide, the Essenes and King Herod. It throws light on an aspect of Josephus studies which has rarely been considered till now.

Muhammad Ali in words and pictures.......2001-11-10
So many books have been written on Muhammad Ali; this book is a very good book to read to get an overview of just how GREAT this man is. Concentrating on his athletic achievements in the ring, through quotes from opponents and friends. The book is filled with great pictures. To a novice Ali fan this book is a good tool. It is a quick read. Only one tiny mistake; Floyd Patterson was the " rabbit." George Chuvalo was the "washerwoman."
