An Italian Cyclist Opinion........2006-03-24

Lonely Planet - Cycling Italy by Ethan Gelber it is a very useful guide even for an italian like me. The guide it is also a good introduction to the general world of "cycle touring".
The limit is, for a long distance rider as me, the guide does not suggests a complete uninterrupted tour of italy. This guide in Amazon costs less than in the italian book market(importation tax included). Bye.

Great for any Gringo.......2005-12-05

My decidedly American husband was able feed his bicycle addition into the Alps of Italy with this book. He bonded with the local bicylists, didn't wreck and managed to find his way back to the appartementi by dark. This book has the basic phrases and a maps that will allow you to enjoy a little adventure off the beaten track. You might even ride with a fleet of people that share a love of life, filled with riding into the anoxic elevations and descending with gusto to a glass of wine. He saw a magical bit of Italy that most tourists never see.

This is a book that all Americans should read now, and re-read over one's lifetime. The editor has done an incredible job of distilling from over 20,000 of Jefferson's letters his elevating, illumining and inspiring thoughts. It is an insight into the man, the times and the country he so deeply loved and so tirelessly worked to create, nurture, expand and sustain. After reading James Bovards "The Bush Betrayal" and then reading this excellent collection of letters and thoughts from Thomas Jefferson it is inescapable to not see the warnings of as well as the fears of the founding fathers of this nation were very real and foreseen, and that they did their best to set in place as many safe guards as they could in the world they lived in, to try and protect as well as warn the future generations of this nation that we must never turn a blind eye toward those in government.
This work is very well thought out and arranged to bring to a clear focus each area of thought that Jefferson reflected upon during his life both in and out of the political arena.

LIGHT AND LIBERTY is what I call a "bedside book," something that deserves to sit on your nightstand FOREVER for those evenings you want to read something inspirational or inspiring before drifting off to La-La Land. It's a small, short, beautifully realized volume...and in this era when just about everybody is intent on trashing Thomas Jefferson, this is a wonderful antidote.

A nicely done anthology of precepts from Thomas Jefferson's writings. The author must have read the thousands of letters written by Jefferson during his lifetime. The only other book I have ever seen in which the author has taken the time to read everything in Jefferson's own hand is the book, West Point: Thomas Jefferson: Character Leadership Education, by Norman Thomas Remick. High marks and admiration to Mr. Petersen for his dedication and perseverance. Recommended to all.

Lab Lover's Tearjerkers.......2007-06-12

We've got Triever Fever, and our Yellow Lab is 3 years old now. I had to get this book because it's kind of like that license plate frame that says "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand". The stories are wonderfully written and we'd love to see a "Panther II". It will pull at your heartstrings like no others can, and if you are owned by a Lab or know someone who is, it's a great gift as well. Highly recommended!

Best Dog Stories Ever.......2003-11-04

My wife gave me this book for my birthday and I was bowled over. The title story made me laugh, cry--and that was only the beginning. The comparison to Seabiscuit is apt. Panther is the definition of an underdog. What a great heart. The other stories, too, were wonderful. I loved John Madson's tale about the Lab Bess, who fetched mallards between giving birth to a whole litter of puppies. And the story of the boy who saved an old duck dog who had fallen through the ice, returning an earlier favor. Ted Lundrigan's story "Trust in Black" was so good it made me look up his other books on Amazon. What a brilliant writer. I don't think I've ever read a more poignant, heart-felt confession about a man's love for retrievers, or any other breeds or individual dogs.

Buy this book for yourself or someone else. It will be one of the best presents you'll ever give or get!

Heavily illustrated with excellent diagrams and color photos, this book is not only for anyone learning the art of art-doll making but will also appeal to anyone who enjoys seeing what the creative, human imagination can devise. Just a joy to read from cover to cover and the beautiful photos will provide inspiration for many different types of artist.

Susan Oroyan has done an excellent work. I bought both of her books "Designing the Doll" and "Finishing the Figure" If you own one of the books, you have to own the other one, they go together. The books have a great deal of information and details on doll making. The book is good for beginners or professional doll makers.You will love it.

I just picked this book up in a local bookstore and immediately got the itch to pick up some clay. I did not have time to read much, the photographs were what enthralled me. Oroyan picked some fine dolls to illustrate her book and it offers a wealth of imagination to the doll artist. The detail in some of the cosuming is fabulous and the characters of some of the dolls unforgetable!

This is the fourth book I own of Susanna Oroyan's and each one is an absolute must for the libraries of serious dollmakers. This book goes into depth about accessorizing dolls and has great illustrations for making shoes, for fitting costumes to dolls, for creating doll-sized animals, etc. It's fantastic and very easy to follow. The best part of Susanna Oroyan's books are the photographs of dolls by a wide variety of artists. It's like going to a museum. Someday I hope that my dolls are pictured in one of her books. That's a definite goal to work towards! And with her books in my library, I feel I have a great teacher to help get me there!

this is a good book, I have adopted and hope to adopt more dogs in the futre to me adopting and rescuing animals is the only way i will get them, to many animals with potential are being put to sleep, it's murder, fix or nueter your dog at the eirliest possible time PLEASE!!!!

A fitting tribute to Balanchine and Costas.......2004-04-03

This lavishly illustrated and handsomely designed book is as much a tribute to choreographer George Balanchine as it is to the photographer Costas. True, it is Balanchine who gets centre stage, commemorated for the centenary of his birth with no less than 50 of his ballets, covered by quite an impressive host of authors. Dancers like Maria Tallchief, Suzanne Farrell, Sara Leland, Karin von Aroldingen, Violette Verdy, and Peter Martins, who have been instrumental in bringing Balanchine's work to life or proved an inspiration to "Mr. B." at various moments in his cornucopian career, are joined by the fine fleur of Anglo-saxon dance writers of today - Clive Barnes, Robert Greskovic, Robert Gottlieb, George Jackson, among others - to pay homage to his creative genius.

WOW!!.......2007-04-12

What an interesting read! Don't let the 'FBI files' thing scare you off. While it includes all FBI documents relating to her (original memo & typed out clearly on opposite page), it has much, much more! A bit of biography, lots of pics, this book is not to be missed. Items of particular interest are documents regarding a man whose name is still censored out to this day, the man is reportedly JFK. Also includes reports of her alleged communism and trips to Mexico in her last months, investigation into her death (they called it a purposeful suicide) and even a memo regarding the Norman Mailer biography of MM published in 1973 (they weren't too happy that RFK and JFK were accused in the book). Tons of information not really known to the public, however be advised it can be a bit slow in some parts. Names and places are still censored by the FBI but any MM fan could easily piece in names and more by the content and dates. I don't know why this book isn't half as popular as other MM books, it's just as good and it has to make you wonder, Why was our government spending all this time and resources on Marilyn?
