Book Description
This comprehensive book on cranial appendages, written by internationally acclaimed researchers, provides a unique link between recent experimental data and established views on evolution, taxonomy, and morphology of horns, pronghorns, and antlers. Physiological, neuroendocrine, nutritional, genetic, and ethological aspects are also covered. The variety of investigation techniques, the depth and timeliness of the information, and the scope of interpretation presented here will provoke discussion and suggest new research objectives. All wildlife biologists interested in horns, antlers, and related structures as well as taxonomists and vertebrate paleontologists will value this well-balanced treatise as an overview and reference source.
Book Description
This is the ultimate reference book for all the essentials — where to stay, where to eat, where to shop, and what to see in Barcelona. Individual chapters cover regional trips including the region's glorious beaches. Information for festivals and events, gay and lesbian interests, music, children's activities, nightlife, sports and fitness, dance and film, and much more are also provided. An A to Z list of resources, an index, and detailed maps expand the book’s usefulness.
Customer Reviews:
Buy Time Out for nightlife listings for a late-night city.......2007-02-11
I went to Barcelona recently, and in the planning of the trip I consulted four guide books:
Lonely Planet's Barcelona City Guide
Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Barcelona and Catalonia
Cadogan Guides Barcelona (Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls)
Time Out Barcelona
All of them were good. I took two with me: Lonely Planet and Eyewitness.
The reasons I chose those two:
Eyewitness unfailingly has a good quality map, which in my view is LP's downfall. Eyewitness always includes a Street Finder Index which LP does not, and LP often misses out on streets other than the major ones, which can be very frustrating, especially in a city like Barca where there are many alleyways. I never use Eyewitness for hotels - the information is scant and usually more expensive than my (more Lonely Planet) budget, but it has fantastic colour photos and cutaways of buildings, and illustrations which place buildings within their streetscapes. It's a nice book to read on the bus or train going somewhere.
LP specialises in listings, which seemed to be more up-to-date and comprehensive than either Time Out or Cadogan, It also had a good Excursions section which helped a couple of times when I travelled beyond the city. I also liked a couple of the walking routes they recommended. Information on matters such as public transport is comprehensive and detailed. I like the chapters on history, architecture and food as well.
Time Out's great strength for me was in helping to plan. It had a huge array of hotels, and if you were especially interested in nightlife, I would take Time Out. I was there primarily for a conference, and many of my evenings were organised. And I'm also night a great nightclubber, perhaps contrary to Barca lifestyle!! If you are - consider Time Out. Its maps were pretty good, but not comprehensive for the area I was staying in, beachside Barceloneta.
That is where the Cadogan guide excelled. Its maps were so good that I pulled them out of the book and took them with me. I would have taken the whole book, but for the weight in my suitcase! Its info about places and sights seemed accurate and comprehensive.
Not updated!.......2006-05-12
Don't buy this guide if you are headed to Barcelona soon...The reaon I gave it a 3-Starts rating is that some of the bars this guide recommends do not exist anymore! I wanted to go to three of them and they were all closed or replaced by other businesses.
Not too touristy!.......2005-09-12
We just returned from Barcelona two weeks ago. We had three guide books with us, and this is the one that we consistently carried around. The books were identical in terms of the touristy information and sites. But where Time Out really shines is in the food and drink and nightlife sections. We tried many of their listings and they did not steer us wrong once. Also, their listing s are for places where locals also frequent, which makes for a much more pleasant trip! We had a fabulous time in Barcelona. A couple of recommendations: Park Guell is worth the trip. The following tapas bars were delicious and swarming with locals: Euskal Etxea, Bar Celta Pulperia (get the pulpo and acompany it with a bottle of albarino), and Cerveceria Catalania.

how to stomach barcelona.......2004-01-30
it's a bit out of date now (some of the places have closed or changed hands) but still a great read - often with hilarious observations sneaked into the reviews. Plenty of good advice on bargain set lunches, wines, local specilaities and unusual restaurants. I live in Barcelona and still use it weekly for my restaurant picks as, unlke local restauarnt guides, each review comes with closing times, credit card policies, metro stops and illustrated map refereneces. Very handy - when's the next edition coming out?
Weekend in Barcelona.......2003-09-06
With only one weekend to spend in Barcelona, the Time Out Barcelona: Eating & Drinking book guided us to a couple of great resteraunts. Like other Time Out publications the writers tell it like it is, plus it made for enjoyable reading on the plane.
Book Description
Features gastronomic goldmines from five-star restaurants like Ferran Adrià’s El Bulli to hole-in-the-wall tapas bars. Highlights the best wineries, hiking, beaches, and skiing outside the city.
Customer Reviews:
A Trip Essential.......2004-08-01
The British Time Out guides are always a trip essential: Their expertise is how to spend your time when you are not in the museum or staring at the major landmark; the eating/drinking/shopping/arts/entertainment portion of your trip. Especially music and nightlife, dance clubs or bars, restaurants and shopping, or where to meet/watch people, what to enjoy, their information in invaluable. This 7th edition is updated from last year's and they really have taken the time to update it, adding or dropping places reviewed, updating the reviews on the places carried over. They didn't just copy and paste a bunch of last year's material, they really work hard to make it good. Plus, this edition is currently $4.00 less than last years! The descriptions of the main attractions and the side/day trips are very good. Although not as pretty and picture heavy as other guide books, if you could only take one guide book for a stay of more than 3 or 4 days, this would be the best choice. Maps in the back are very useable, altogether a really great book.
There's simply no substitute for Time Out.......2003-10-19
The Barcelona city information is thoroughly updated every year; the restaurant picks are naughty, opinionated and don't sound like a PR pitch; the writers are not afraid to point out any pitfalls or negative aspects of any particular experience; the various maps are clear; the guided city walks take all the effort out of exploring the city and the style in general is witty, erudite and a pleasure to read. What more can I say? Time Out Barcelona has no equal.
This book made my Barcelona trip!.......2003-09-25
We just returned from 4 days in Barcelona and this book was the bomb! I bougght four books on Spain because I couldn't decide, and the Time Out guide was by far the most useful and informative, and comprehensive book. It was indispensible. In fact, when we were in other cities in Spainwe were wishing that Time Out had also made guides for those cities too. All the restaurants we ate at were amazing, and for the most part the info was accurate. The book has lots of color pictures and gives details on how to get where you are going. Oh yeah, the BEST, most USEFUL thing was that they had a bunch of different maps in the back of the book, and on any particular entry (say, a restaurant), they would give the page and the coordinates of where that restaurant could be found on the map, as well as the closest metro stop. It was great! Highly recommend this book and will be sure to buy other Time Out guides next time we travel.
EXCELLENT!!.......2003-09-16
I just got back from Spain, and this guide was amazing. I highly recommend you check out their picks for top restaurants, I think they were very well chosen.
The maps were excellent, and very helpful. This is the guide to take to Barcelona!
Great guide.......2002-10-21
Detailed, great maps, good information...5 stars
I highly recommend the paella at Set Portes.

Customer Reviews:
Barcelona Bible.......2001-03-21
Having just returned from a trip from Barcelona with this book firmly anchored in my side bag, I can attest to how spot-on its recommendations were all about town. From bars to cafes, museums and parks, architecture to paella, this guide will give you the info you need. The only downside is a few out-of-date entries, and a map that's often confusing. Pair this book guide with a Streetwise and you can't go wrong...
Hip Book.......2001-03-03
If you're going to bring only one book with you, this is the one! Unlike many of the other guide books, the restaurant suggestions were actually good. I spent a few months in Barcelona and had several books with me, but in the end, this was the only one worth using. I've found many guide books to be aimed at the collegiate set or the elderly. As a twenty-something looking for hip bars, good restaurants, and insider tips, I found this to be the most helpful. It also has all the info you need about museums, sights, transportation, hotels, etc.

Book Description
Christopher Columbus was not the first to discover the Americas, but his voyages led to European exploration of the New World. Rich in resources and natural beauty, the Americas were irresistible to gold-hungry conquistadors. The newcomers gave little thought to those who had called the lands their home, and exploration soon came to signify conquest. The New World -- and the lives of its inhabitants -- would be changed forever.
Customer Reviews:
Good picture book for middle grades history course.......2004-07-18
This text is lengthier than the Constitution book. I believe it can still be easily read and discussed in two class periods. The text can be easily separated between the Conquistadors and other French & English explorers. This book covers quite a few explorers so, a graphic organizer that lists the names of the men would be helpful for students to keep information during the story.
Exploration and Conquest: The Americas After Columbus.......2000-01-13
Outstanding description of explorers to the new world after Columbus. Puts the voyages and their countries motives into perspective with clear and concise chrolological account. Highly recommended for the 4th grade explorers unit, and from the 3rd grade through the 7th grade. An excellent historical book and contains good color illustrations. I would recommend it to students from the 3rd grade through the 7th grade, and wish to include a recommendation for teachers, as well.

Disapointied by Reality.......2006-10-11
The author tried to enlighten people about serving Victorian Tea, and I believe she did her best. But, I was only dissapointed by the sad reality, if this book reflects general cognition about teas and antiques among general public in USA. Isn't it out of question to serve tea in styloform cups? I feel sorry that she had to advise not to!
Well-organized.......2001-01-07
I felt that this wasn't the most captivating book I've read on Tea, but it was interesting, easy to read, well-organized and it did touch on somethings I didn't know. I liked the fact that she mentioned French Tea. I wish that she had given more detail about the ways that she makes tea so exciting. She mentioned that people always have such a phenomenal time at her Victorian Teas, but I wanted specifics!
Nice, but a little overboard..........2000-06-09
First, let me say that it's a nice book. But the level of preciousness of this tome is enough to make anyone's stomach turn. Save your money, and buy a book that does a little more research, and leaves out the cute touches. But if you want to find out how to brew a cup of tea, this one will get you in the right direction. A little more editing would have helped.
Good introduction to the art of Victorian tea........1999-11-10
A good, practical introduction to the arts of having a Victorian tea. I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Pinchney at a tea conference a couple years ago and she is as gracious as her book would imply! Recommended.

Excellent.......1998-06-22
This book has something for every event in a garden. Planting, designing, what to grow and how to grow it. It is one of the most useful gardening books that I have on my shelf and use it often. In the winter its great to read and work out any previous season problems and plan for the new year.

Book Description
This is a study of the Victorian Anglo-Jewish ruling elite, the `Cousinhood', and of its economic, political, and Jewish interests. Based on a comprehensive theoretical discussion of the notion of a Jewish economic elite, and focusing on the activities of the two leading turn-of-the-century Anglo-Jewish families, the Rothschilds and the Montagus, Daniel Gutwein challenges the current monolithic image of the Cousinhood. The facade of homogeneity, built on common social and class traits, in reality masked a serious division among the rival factions, each with its own economic and political interests, along the same lines that divided the Victorian ruling class as a whole. These rival policies came to the fore on such issues as the absorption of the East European Jewish immigrants, communal and synagogal organization, the reaction to the expulsion of the Jews from Moscow in 1891, and the Balfour Declaration.

Book Description
There are thousands of fonts out there, each one a simplified, glorified, humorized or otherwise altered take on your basic ABC's. It's how you use 'em that counts. In the spirit of the first Cool Type, this book offers an international look at how cutting-edge typefaces are used in actual designs. Cool Type 2wo features the latest free-thinking work from an all-new roster of 44 top designers. You'll see fonts that speak for themselves, whether in whispers, chuckles or screams ... some that blow you away and others that rub you the wrong way. (Hey, that's what happens on the cutting edge!) Complete with insights on how the typefaces were created or manipulated, Cool Type 2wo is guaranteed to alter--or at least seriously challenge--the way you use type.
Customer Reviews:
Inspiring.......2002-05-19
I love looking through this book. There is some amazing and creative stuff in here, very cutting edge. If you are a graphic designer it will certainly spark your creative fire.
favourite book in my collection.......2000-08-21
cooltype 2wo would have to be my favourite book in my design collection, i am always refering to it, it's just full of great new ideas. tonnes of samples of print design, samples from people like 'the attik' and 'me company'. another must have.
a worthy sequel.......1999-12-28
the original COOL TYPE is a must for every graphic designer's library. this new book is a good follow-up, providing an updated overview of the profession. it showcases the latest cutting edge designers working with type. the one flaw is the book's glossing over some designers by showcasing too few of their respective pieces. however, because it condenses dozens of design talents into one volume, COOL TYPE 2WO allows the reader to see a cross-section of design styles, without his having to purchase various expensive monographs. a similar, and very good, book is RADICAL GRAPHICS/GRAPHIC RADICALS.
