Insight Guides has done it again with another gorgeous edition of stunning photography and natural history. This is the inspirational book to get for the person who needs a little convincing to pack up a safari bag and visit the giraffes. The guide covers Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Rwanda, and includes informative chapters on wildlife, game parks, and various safari options. But educational as it is, it's the pictures that stand out and take your breath away--for animal lovers it's worth the purchase for the photography alone.

This is the one to buy.......2007-08-14
I bought four different reference sources for a trip to NYC. Each had something unique to offer but if I only had the funds to purchase one, this would have been it. It has it all - easy to use, tons of info like address finder, subway and bus maps, restaurant lists with pricing guidelines and much more. The size is great, fits nicely in a purse or deep pocket. It states on the front that it's the "Ultimate Map Guide" and it is.
Excellent travel companion.......2007-03-09
I have visited New York City twice now and I am currently planning my 3th trip. Fodor's flashmaps are an indispensible guide: practical, easy to use and with all the information I need as a tourist to quickly find my way around the city. I have compared flashmaps with other guides and maps but I find Fodor's stand out from the competition: the information is presented in a very logical and straightforward way and looking up the desired info is a matter of seconds; the information is comprehensive, useful and very to-the-point: the editors focus on information you need on a daily bases and is very much of the 'no frills, need to know'-class: important addresses, streetfinders, important contact information, transportation, hotels, hospitals, post offices as wel as shopping addresses, hotels and airports to name just a few out of more then 30 categories. And finally: the book's dimensions make it easy to carry around without that 'hey, look at me, I am a tourist'-feel. Perhaps one of the best guides on the market and highly recommended.
Excellent map for NYC.......2006-10-02
I have had all the editions of this map. It is a great resource for NYC. I even use their recommendations for restaurants. The only minor complaint I have is about the Brooklyn and Queens maps. These are very superficial and cannot be used to get around these burroughs.
Flashmaps - Great for the city!.......2006-08-09
Two crucial tips for NYC: have great maps and pack lightly. Flashmaps allows you to do both! This small book can be pulled out quickly and referenced without having to unfold a huge map. Multiple maps for subways and buses and shopping aren't needed because everything is contained in this booklet. It can be stashed in a coat pocket or small bag.
I would recommend this to anyone visiting for the first time or 100th time!
An excellent guide for navigating Manhattan.......2006-03-24
So far I've owned 3 versions of the Fodor's Flashmaps and I've never been disappointed. I first bought a Fodor's Flashmaps book several years ago to assist me in finding my way around Manhattan. The maps are easy to read and arranged by several categories (such as Restaurants/Midtown, Restaurants/Upper West Side, /The Village, and so on), so you can easily find hotels, restaurants, museums, art galleries, architecture, churches/temples/mosques, consulates, universities, hospitals, libraries, tourist attractions, shopping, and theaters in the area you plan to be, and map your route to get there. It also includes maps and guides on the subway system, buses, driving, parking, rail, and getting to/from the airport, and provides an avenue and street finder for Manhattan.
It also includes maps for Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island with key tourist sites and restaurants listed, but the focus is clearly Manhattan and I've only used the Manhattan sections of the book. It's small enough to fit into a small (not miniature) purse, inside pocket, or daypack.
Recently loaned a copy to a friend, who thought it was great, so I just bought another copy to give to her. Can't recommend it enough.

Book Description
What happens when you fall in love with a three-foot-tall, 700-pound infant covered with thick black hair? Carol Buckley was a college student, studying exotic animal care, when she looked up from her homework one day to see a baby elephant walking past her house. The local tire dealer had bought the tiny elephant as a promotion gimmick for his store and was taking her for a stroll. Carol quickly volunteered to help care for and train Tarra, tried to meet the baby elephant's emotional and social needs, and ended up buying her.
Tarra was bright, playful, and loved attention, so Carol taught her to do lots of tricks (including rollerskating and the hula), and for about twenty years they appeared at circuses, theme parks, and zoos, changing their lifestyle as Tarra's needs changed and balancing the performing life with time at their farm.
But Carol began to dream of a place where elephants could just be elephants, where abused elephants could find a haven, and where old elephants could live out their days peacefully. She established The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee, an 800-acre refuge now home to Tarra and five other elephants, with room for many more. A place just for elephants-no visitors-The Elephant Sanctuary has been featured on the award-winning PBS Nature documentary "Urban Elephants." Carol Buckley and Scott Blais were named "Heroes of the Planet" by Time Magazine for their work at The Sanctuary.

Touching story of a gentle soul.......2003-07-14
I purchased this book because I admire Carol Buckley's work at the Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee. For several years, I watched the heroine of this book, the Asian elephant Tarra, on the Sanctuary's website "Elecam," which records the elephants movements during the day. I vicariously fell in love with Tarra from watching her daily movements and was determined to learn more about her past life. This book provided me with a loving history of Tarra, how Carol came to meet her as a baby, purchased her and eventually take her around performing for the next 15 years.
But Carol Buckley had a conscience and a heart. She realized that Tarra was sick and tired of her life as a captive circus elephant. Even though Tarra was treated better than 99.9% of other circus animals, she still grew bored and frustrated with a life pleasing humans and living isolated from others of her own kind. The black and white photos of Tarra with Carol show her life as a performer. Finally, Carol was able to do something few of us are able to achieve: she was able to live her dream by creating a Sanctuary for abused, homeless and unwanted Asian elephants (soon to include African elephants as well). Tarra was the first inhabitant of the Sanctuary, and she was soon joined by others. The book also documents Tarra's happy new life in the company of other female Asian elephants.
This is a heartwarming, true story of Tarra and Carol. For anyone who loves elephants and is a compassionate soul, this is the book for you. Hopefully other needy elephants will someday get the opportunity of living in Hohenwald and getting to know both Tarra and Carol. Great book!

An Fine Elephant Tale.......2002-08-26

Medical Marijuana Users Bible.......2003-09-23
I am a medical marijuana user, and have been for years. The Sea of Green book has enabled me as never before. I may now grow my medicine in the privacy of my own home. I no longer have to rely on the clubs or the street.
Hans explains the entire process of growing just the right amount of marijuana for my personal needs. Using the Sea of Green method allows me to harvest once every week, thus creating a dependable supply of medicine.
The book is straightforward and written in simple language. It even has a day to day schedule, which takes you from the germination of the seed, till you harvest.
Anyone writing a bad review of this book, knows nothing about the sea of green method. This is the same book which High Times said was their best ever.
I read the review of the medical person who said it was not a good book. This person has an ax to grind against Hans. The book was owned by High Times, till it was discovered High Times was stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of royalties from Hans. Hans sued them and won 100 per cent of his book back from them. High Times was also ordered to pay Hans $183,000 for royalties they had stole from him. They have their people write bad reviews about it, whenever they can. It won't work this time.
Hans is a friend of mine, and an excellent professional marijuana grower, (20 years of growing) author and videographer. He created the first indoor as well as the first outdoor grow video in the world and has just released his new Marijuana cooking DVD's.
If you want a realistic opinion of Hans, his books, or videos ask, ask Ed Rosenthal, Jose Cervantes, Mel Frank,or Marc Emery of Cannabis Culture Magazine. They all support Hans and his tireless efforts to have marijuana legalized.
If you buy this book, or any products from Hans, and don't like them, Hans will give your money back to include shipping cost. Yes! He is that good.

This book covers everything a person needs to know about the sea of green method. It covers all the standard information, needed by a indoor marijuana grower, in the first section of the book. In the second section of the book, the sea of green process is detailed. The second section starts with seed selection and germination. It then goes on, to show how to determine gender, clone, grow "mammas", bloom, and harvest. This most informative book takes the grower by the hand and leads them through the entire sea of green process, from day one till the day of harvest. It eliminates the common problems faced by novice growers. The book is written in easy to understand language, is full of illustrations, and lots of pictures, as well as great color bud pics. I would suggest this book to anyone. High Times was the original publishers of the book, and praised the infamous Hans, as a Master grower. The Sea of Green, Perpetual Harvest book, is the only book in the world, which is written exclusively, covering the sea of green process. "Hans" is the foremost author of the sea of green method. In addition to this book, he also has the only sea of green Hydroponics book and video in the world. He is also the foremost producer of marijuana grow videos in the world, and sells the only Sea of Green video/book combination in the world. This book is definately five star material.
Great Book 100 % LEGITIMATE.......2001-12-21
This is a very good book. It was written by a grower with over twenty years growing experience, and who is known around the world. It begins with an explanation of, how to select seeds and germinate them. The book uses lots of photos and diagrams along with the written text. It also has lots of color pictures of the whole process, (to include mega-bud shots)in a cool eight page centerfold. The book explains in simple terms how to clone, determine gender, water, nutrients, environemental aspects, light/photoperiod, pest, etc. all are covered in this informative book. This book was originally published by High Times and was advertised by them as used on the great program, "Pot of Gold" by Peter Jennings. It was also seen on "Eye on America". High Times says the book is the best grow book they ever published. They refer to "Hans" as a Master grower. I like the way the book was formatted. "Hans" breaks the book into two sections. The first section details the main information concerning marijuana growing. The second section is a day by day account of the perpetual harvest aspect. The day to day breakdown of "what to do" is really helpful. The Sea of green method allows a grower the ability to grow marijuana in a perpetual cycle. Buds are harvested once every two or three weeks perpetually. If you want to learn about the Sea of Green method, this is a good book to get. It even has a great video "Closet Cultivation" to go along with it. I personally ask Jorge Cervantes what he thought about the book. He said it was a "great book".
Watch Out, this book in Not Legitimate.......2000-09-02
I am a medical marijuana user and I need my medicine. The original book by High Times "Growing Tips" was very informative and written by growers. This version by this author Hans is coming from a writer and Not a Grower, and thereby offers incredibly incorrect information to the reader, such that only by the intrepid nature of the plant and Nature would one have any chance of success. The book "Indoor Marijuana Horticulture" by Cervantes and "Growing Tips" by High Times will get anyone started and lead to success. This book by Hans will only confuse a novice. Further, it does not truly address the Sea of Green method. The Perpetual Harvest method is a distinct method, and Hans muddies the distinction to the point of being very confounding. Newbies, read the above other books and get success first, then read this one by Hans and you will understand my comments. I have no axe to grind, but I adore the medicine and wish to contribute to everyone's success in supplying their own needs, and this book is contrary to any beginner's true requirements for success. Stay Away until you have enough experience to evaluate for yourself the information in this book. Regards, Shannon.
