Great Book for Whale Lovers.......2000-08-07

This book is filled with information on whales and neat paintings and pictures. It has bunches of little life stories that make feel awe, admiration, and a sense of coming together with people all over the world who love and respect the whales. Reading this book helped me to understand that whales are not worlds apart from me, all I have to do is look in the right place. It's a shame this book went out of print because the information in this book can not become out dated. I liked this book so much that after i borrowed from the library, and read it I decided I had to buy it and read it over and over!

This is a serious compilation and collection of factual studies, observations, recollections, and hopes and dreams of humans who believe that whales are so much more special than most of us realize. It was written by many authors with the intent of raising the collective consiousness of humanity and to stop the killing of these magnificent animals. Interesting and provocative. As a scuba diver who personnally witnessed an act of kindness by a Grey Whale in La Jolla Bay, I am just another human being who has read and learned enough to believe, that these animals have lived for thousands of years in the oceans of our world with few natural enemies (before mankind), may have more to teach us than we can yet imagine. The book covers a lot of territory, the entire United States, listing some of the wonderfull small communities found in this country. Living in New England, I think the book skipped some of the many nice small towns found in our region. I wonder how many other towns in other parts of this nation it did not mention? Nonetheless, the book is a rather good resource for those looking for intersting places to visit. I just wished it had maps, and perhaps, some pictures, to help the reader understand the places pointed out.

A trek through time.......2005-08-09

This book takes us on a trek through time - literally. We learn about timekeeping from the calendars of the earliest civilizations all the way up to atomic clocks and beyond. I have to say that I got as much out of this book as my kids did. I had used terms like "quartz timing" or "atomic clock" before without really understanding what they are. The best part of the book for most kids will probably be the activities. My daughter loved the incense clock especially. None of the activities required any hard-to-get materials, and we look forward to trying more of them. I have to give special kudos to the extensive glossary as well.

Westminster History.......2007-04-28

A large and beautifully produced book that shows the winners of Westminster each of its years as it provides a social history of THE big dog event. Doesn't matter what breed you have, the winners here are all top dogs of their type and just beautiful. A great dog is a great dog, and usually they know it. For someone who has followed Westminster since the 1960's, its a trip down memory lane. The winners' photographs are stunning. the text also lets you know what happened to the winners' after their big win, like catching up on old friends. A nice gift for anyone interested in confirmation showing.
