Made laugh till I cried.......2007-10-05

I stood in a book store that shall remain nameless and read most of this book. I was laughing out loud and giggling shamelessly. I love this kind of stuff and I will be sending this book out as gifts for my friends that I know also appreciate this kind of humour. Many of the signs are just poor English but even more of them are just such mysteries as to why they were ever printed... love it.

A lot of fun and, unfoirtunately, you don't have to go very far when traveling in the Middle East or Africa to see some entertaining versions of English. I'm glad someone thought to put this one together!

We had seen a sample in the Inquirer and ordered 10 for gifts. My sons scoffed when they received it but spent half an hour laughing. Great gift for a small price.

Fun In Translation.......2006-12-23

"Signspotting" is a quirky collection of real signs from around the world, which amuse because of either grammatical or translation issues, unintended innuendo, or otherworldly context. I really like this book, and especially enjoy signs with non sequiturs and seeming contradictions such as a sign in front of a Racine, Wisconsin store proclaiming "Happy Easter! We Sell Handguns" and the sign from Maui that says "Bottomless Pit - 65 feet deep." I love the misspellings as well, finding the sign from Incline Village, Nevada stating "Detuor to College" to be especially entertaining. The sub-genre of disturbing combinations is equally hilarious, like the store in Grafton, Illinois that proclaims "R&R Worm Farm Worm - Castings & Best Dirt in Town - Wine Making Supplies Sold Here."

This is a great little book, and I recommend it as a quick and funny read to anyone, especially those that travel internationally frequently.

Any who has traveled knows that spotting signs are an oddity of being on the road: sooner or later you'll come across a sign which is absurd and funny. Such a collection is SIGNSPOTTING: ABSURD & AMUSING SIGNS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. From accidental porn to amusing meals and odd directions, color signs are accompanied by even funnier tongue-in-cheek comments on their irony. Highly recommended.

Fun and full of ideas..........2007-10-12

This book provides one to open their minds to the colors and patterns, both real and unreal, of fish - a group of animals that are often quite bizarre --- think of the ones from the very deepest parts of the ocean with their glow-in-the-dark lights and funny lures to draw in their prey. I would have provided a higher star ranking if the general patterns (outlines) of the fish were more varied, but unfortunately the artist used the same shape for many of the fish and provided only a new color & geometric pattern to decorate the fish. I believe that the ideas from these creative fish can provide an artist with new ideas for their own art, maybe not fish or animal, but in patterns on other media (fabric, canvas, paper, polymer clay, etc.). So enjoy the book and laugh at the artist's creativity - rather fanciful -- hence the title!

This book is good to have while training a puppy or getting accustomed to a new puppy. Every question I come up with I can refer to the book and bang my answer is there. I don't have to call the vet or trainer for every little problem or question. This book has helped me train my 14 week old chocolate lab with no problems at all. Best wishes.

The Jews in Umbria is based mainly on documentation preserved in the archives of Umbria. It illustrates the political and socio-economic history of the Jewish community from the second half of the thirteenth century, when Jewish settlement in the region became permanent and continuous, to the expulsion of the Jews in 1569 decreed by Pope Pius V. Umbria was an important geographical and political entity in central Italy during the late Middle Ages and was always linked to the Papal State. The documents provide us with important information that enables us to appreciate correctly the Jews' economic role in the region and their relationships with the political powers (the communes and the popes) and the Mendicant orders. Furthermore, they enlighten us on aspects of the Jews' daily life, and on their relationship with Christian society.
