Lately, many studies have suggested that communication impairments in brain-damaged individuals might be explained-at least in part-in terms of cognitive resource allocation. Reproducing a clinical pattern in normal subjects by using a dual-task treatment might be a way of evaluating the role of cognitive resources in the right hemisphere's contribution to verbal communication. This study suggests that the RH's presumed specific contribution to the processing of the alternative metaphorical meanings of words is, at least to some extent, the expression of the RH's complementary, and necessary, contribution to the pool of attentional resources needed for the most effortful processing.

We love the Bradt guides because they are personal, innovative and in-depth. We used this guide along with 2 other well-known guides, but the Bradt guide was without any doubt the best of the three. If you like to get off the beaten track (without necessarily missing out on the highlights), this is the guide you're looking for! It also includes reader reports and funny anecdotes. One negative point: the maps are far from perfect. If you only take one guide with you, we would definitely recommend to buy some additional maps.

Best English-language guide we've seen.......2006-01-22

My wife is Malagasy. After over 20 years away, then one exploratory trip, she took me on the next trip. Of the 5 guide books we had, this is the one that she likes best. It is also the book with the most detailed descriptions, from numerous readers who have contributed to Ms. Bradt's editions. It probably also has the best all-around advice. As a traveler, probably from a rich land, to one of the world's poorest places, you will need this advice.

No guide book is perfect. Some of the details, such as the cost of the entry visa at the airport (only 13 Euros) were a little off. Also the maps could both be better and arranged more handily. However, if we had to keep just one of the 5 books, this would be the one.

For travelers to Madagascar I also strongly recommend to get one of the French travel books, like the "petit fute" guide. This is good for maps and addresses and is updated every two years or so.

Also recommended is to get a Malagasy-English translator/ word book. Do not assume that you can buy it there!

Where is Iran?.......2004-05-01

In this book of famous people in the last 1000 years, there is no sign of even a single persona from Iran. Neither people from the old time (Avicina, Abu-reihan Biruni, Khayam, Kharazmi, and so on), nor from the present time. Is this book politically biased? Do you think that you can make a nation like Iran disappear so easily just if you do not write about it in your book? Iran has survived many ups-and-downs in the course of its harsh history. It will do so.

A definite coffee table book for anyone who loves spanish art and/or vintage posters. What a collection!!! The author manages to capture simultaneously, the history of the vintage poster in Spain, and the decades involved. The book is worth the high price.

Winter Relief for Gardners.......2001-05-21

What a joy! The gorgeous photography earns the book a place on the coffeetable. It is a good source for identifying many flowers. It offers good tips for arranging flowers for all four seasons. This is the perfect type of book gardners should read in the winter, when we are longing for the first colors of Spring and looking forward to getting our hands back in the dirt. I got mine when I was recuperating from bi-lateral carpal tunnel releases in early Spring and it helped me pass the time that I was restricted from much use of my hands and dying to work in my flower and vegetable beds.

It helped me pass the time that I would have otherwise been working in my flower and vegetable beds. It crossed my mind that this is the kind of book gardners need to read in the winter, when we are housebound and frustrated, planning new projects for as soon as the weather allows. It is a truly a celebration of flowers and one woman's love for growing them and arranging them. It gives good basic advice for creating lovely floral arrangements for all four seasons. It is a good source, complete with color photos, for identifying many flowers. The color photography deserves a place on the coffee table. I will definitely re-read it this Winter when I am housebound,longing for the colors of Spring and looking forward to once again getting my hands in the dirt.

29 Glass Doors With A View!.......2000-10-17

Finally, there's a "coffee table book" that reads like a love story! Hardie Newton has written a celebration of the seasons, of our senses (if we unclutter them), and the natural beauty all around us. It's a lyrical trip through the countryside of my college youth, a gardner's manual, an arranger's inspiration, a recipe book, a medicine chest and a philosophic guide. It's what you might expect from a lady who builds a house with 29 glass doors, no windows and doesn't let Sunny Reynolds, whose photographs are great, show it to you until page 102!

This is a beautiful and well written book on the philosophy of life using flowers, creating a garden and learning to appreciate the beauty God has created for us to enjoy and appreciate in this busy world.

I bought this book hoping it would focus more on candles. I was disappointed in that aspect - it discussed decorating candles and decorating with candles more than making candles. The other parts of the book - decorations and wreaths - are interesting and informative. They are set up for a variety of skill levels. It was an interesting book - and it gave me some ideas and projects.

If you're looking for a book offering specific advice about travel opportunities for singles, this book would be fine. However, I wanted something general as I have already selected a destination, and only a small section of this book was useful to me.

I was quite disappointed in this book. I wanted a book on actually traveling solo, experiencing new places and situations from a solitary point of view. Most of this book is in fact about being a single person in a group travel situation, with lots of information about tours, resorts, cruises, and such. If that's what you're looking for, I can see that this book might be helpful. The little bit of actual information for solo travelers is basic common sense that is in all such books -- stay in safe neighborhoods, don't keep your money all in one place, don't stand around looking like an idiot.

Every woman must read it!.......1999-04-16

As a newly divorced avid traveler, this book gave me the courage to continue my travels sans partner. I took the author's advice on African tour operators (OTC)and had a wonderful experience. Guess what? I met several other single travelers at our Botswana lodge and never felt alone. Now I'm planning a tour to China.

As a practicing architect, I am often invited to meet with kids to talk about the profession or what I do. This was an excellent resource to help me bridge the "generation" gap and find ways to talk about architecture and the drawing aspects of it with kids of all ages. It's one of the best books I've bought in years.

A terrible disappointment..............2002-10-17

As one who has attended the oldest art school in United States, I feel I should mention some wonderful books that are available. For the very best in professional technique, there is Nicolaides The Natural Way to Draw. For absolute joy, encouragement and technique in drawing, there is Dvorak's Experimental Drawing. For the spiritual aspect, love of life and technique, there is Franck's The Zen of Seeing. All three books are treasures for anyone who really yearns to learn how to draw.

Not what I thought it was.......2001-12-17

I was expecting a book weighted toward doodling; idea-generation; capturing thoughts on paper. I was disappointed to find it more oriented toward graphic artists or illustrators. Lots of topics like composition, perspective, etc. And the sample sketches and examples are way way more professional than I could ever hope to be. Bottom-line, I found it more oriented toward illustrators or artists than toward thinkers who want to doodle.

Having seen Sylvia Browne on the Montel Williams show, I was certainly captivated by her psychic ability, as she seemed to be so on the money with her revelations about some of Montel's guests. I purchased this book in hope of finding out more about this intriguing woman, who certainly seemed to be blessed with a remarkable psychic gift.

The book is informative and highly entertaining, as Sylvia relates her life story, and the reader discovers how she evolved to be the person she is today. She tells the reader of her dysfunctional family and suggests that her gift is a hereditary one. She describes her psychic gift in detail and informs the reader of the use to which she has put her ability. Her journey in life has, thus far, been a fascinating and unusual one.

She also gives the reader her vision of what lies ahead for each and every one of us, after we have moved on from this earhly plane. While one cannot be sure whether she is right or wrong, it still makes for some thought provoking and interesting reading. She believes death to be one's reward for living. This is certainly philosophically in keeping with her vision of what lies ahead for each of us, after death.

The book, written in a warm, breezy, conversational tone, is very reflective of Sylvia's actual cadence and personality. Whether or not one is a believer is irrelevant to the enjoyment that one will derive from reading this book. Keep an open mind!
