Information was old and the 2007 was not available. Used it in traveling Europe and many of the bars were closed / out of business.
Something strange about this book.......2007-03-08
My wife and I used this book to create our yearly vacation but I can't quite put my finger on something. Our cruise was fun and there was lots of disco dancing. I guess as a joke a lot of men were dancing with each other. They had to because there weren't many women on board! The hotel we stayed at had a very fine gym. The pool was always crowded with lots of bodybuilders. I grew a moustache and made friends with some gentlemen. We had a lot of fun before things went horribly, horribly wrong. All in all will use it again to plan next year's trip to Greece.

I first picked up a Spartacus guide while on my first trip to Europe. I could imagine planning a trip anywhere without the newest edition. It helps me plan, not only what to do somewhere, but where to go in the first place.
It gives you very good info on the countries, then breaks it down into cities and towns.
I have used it to find hotels, restaurants and bars, saunas, stores, everything.
The one thing I don't like is the key for the abbreviated descriptors is in book mark form, so if you lose that, you can be lost as to what some things mean. I usually carry a second photo-copy. Other than that, it has been a very valued resource

A thorough and excellent review of tack and saddlery..........2001-02-12
I bought this book for my husband at Christmas, and we've both fallen in love with it. He looks at it so often it just sits on the floor by his chair now, never making it back to the bookcase. It contains over 250 pages of excellent information for the rider, English or Western, as well as historical information about the origins of tack and saddles.
The book starts out with a history of tack, up through the making of the modern saddle; covers specialty saddles; has an extensive section on bits, bridles and additional aids; covers driving and farm harnesses; various training aids, outlines a well-equipped stable; illustrates various cerimonial trappings, and shows us samples of riding dress.
There are thousands of marvelous photographs, both black & white as well as color; pages of line drawing illustrations; charts; diagrams; the works! It's not an inexpensive book, but for the serious rider it's well worth the investment. If you are such, don't hesitate, go for it!

Another Antique Trader Teaser.......2005-10-30
As with most Antique Trader (AT) reference guides, this one covers a broad range of art pottery artists and manufacturers. However, as is again typical of the AT guides, the scope is quite ambitious, as is the content. The pieces are rare and pricey, and there is too great a variety at the expense of thoroughness. It's a good book for getting a basic range of the different price levels and styles of artists and manufacturers, but if you want to seriously collect or deal in any specific pottery line, you'd do better to find a book devoted to that particular pottery.

A useful if not exhaustive resource.......2003-02-22
The Taylor's Guide to Roses is, like its companion volumes, handy to have around as a supplement to other books on roses. In itself it is neither complete nor entirely reliable; however, its many attractive photos are useful, especially for people who are not familiar with the various classifications of roses. I particularly appreciate that it gives equal space to old roses, shrub roses, and species, as the round of hybrid teas grows tiresome to the eye and these plants deserve far more garden space than they receive.
Overall, best used as a visual aid for form--color, as in any book, is subject to the vagaries of nature and photography.
Not for Western Gardeners.......2001-09-11
All of the Taylor books seem to be written for non-western gardens. I have 4 of their books and yet whenever I want to look up a plant I've seen in a nursery I rarely find it in these books. This is not the book you want if you are hoping for a good resource for roses. This is a guide book, when you want to look up a rose you saw at a nursery to find out a little more about it. The book divides the roses by class so if you are like most people and looking to buy a hybrid tea this book has fewer than 100. There are thousands and thousands of roses on the market, the odds that you will find it in this book is nil unless you are looking for Peace or the most common. This is a small book, you could spend your money better elsewhere. I recommend Botanica's Encyclopedia of Roses.
Guide is great for zone selection........2000-05-09
This book is great if you're trying to determine which roses will work best for your zone. However, be aware that if you're looking at this book as a resource/color guide for cut flowers, garden flowers and the roses you buy from a florist are different! These are garden favorites(with a few hybrids).
Best to buy this selection to help you decide on what's right for your zone/region. And hey, its $5 cheaper than it is at Garden.com!

Excellent list of favorites.......2005-06-23
This is an excellent book, probably the best of the "Burpee Expert Gardener" series; it consists of Peter Schneider's favorite 400 or so rose cultivars, with many photographs and some broader cultural tips and information on classes of rose. That said, there are larger and more complete lists of roses, and more comprehensive guides to rose care; if Schneider doesn't like it, or if it wasn't in commerce before 1995, you won't find it here. I don't see that as much of a loss, as keeping the book to a manageable heft, and easing the choice of rose varieties, is worth the tradeoff if the editor's judgements are worthy. (Schneider, who boasts of having personally grown 1,400 rose varieties, mostly in Ohio, co-edits the Combined Rose List.)

Description:
Five hormonal growth promotants (diethylstilbestrol, hexestrol, dienestrol, 17-@b-estradiol and 17-@a-ethynylestradiol) have been analysed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (GC/MS, SIM mode) for four non-consecutive days. The aim is to build models with stable predictions. The strategies applied are internal standardization and global models carried out by gathering signals recorded on several days. Two models were examined: univariate models (with standardized peak area) and PARAFAC2 (the analyte scores were standardized by the scores of the internal standard). Internal standardization has been proved to be efficient for both models of dienestrol and ethynylestradiol. The mean relative error in absolute value when samples recorded on a different day to the calibration set are quantified by PARAFAC2 is 7.00% and 7.11% for dienestrol and ethynylestradiol, respectively. For diethylstilbestrol and estradiol, internal standardization was combined with global calibration models built with signals recorded under several sources of variability (different days). Thus predictions become steadier over time and in the estradiol example, errors decrease from 33.10% to 9.76%. The mean relative error in absolute value with PARAFAC2 updated models oscillates between 6.34% for ethynylestradiol and 10.74% for diethylstilbestrol. For univariate updated models errors range from 6.42% to 14.19% for ethynylestradiol and estradiol respectively. The combination of both strategies has been proved to be efficient independently of the analyte and of the signal order.

This is an insightful book of relationships and new understanding from a world perspective. A story of real people being real people whatever the circumstances. Smooth reading and fun.
Very Touching.......2000-09-30
I really enjoyed reading "Two Walk the Golden Road". It is a very touching story that shows how people of diverse cultures and personalities can not only learn to relate to one another but can become close friends.
It is a not necessarily a "feel-good" story but it is one that will make you ponder the complexities of relationships between people.
