Book Description
Completely revised and updated, Let's Go: Germany is the comprehensive guide for the discerning traveler to Deutschland. This edition features greatly expanded coverage of Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich, as well as new coverage of the towns of Olberhau and Seiffen, while keeping all the practical tips that only Let's Go's forty-five years of travel savvy can provide. Insider information will help you find the best Wurst (or vegetarian equivalent), while new features uncover the hidden gems of Germany, from zeppelin rides to hilltop monastery-breweries. Whether you'd rather explore the world's largest non-nuclear submarine or order your beer by the meter, Let's Go already has your umlauts packed.
Customer Reviews:
Great for younger travelers, good resource for any budget traveller.......2007-04-09
I've used Let's Go books in the past and have always loved them. This one is no exception, but it's also the first one I've purchased for a European trip. If you are a student, or on a budget, it's perfect. The weakness - it ONLY reviews budget and hostel lodging options. Also, it assumes you are only hiking or taking trains. However, we're planning on spending part of our time driving and exploring some of the smaller out of the way towns and staying some nights in non-budget locations, so I'm also ordering some other guide books to complement this one.
brilliant! way better than lonely planet!.......2004-12-17
I just got back from a summer trip to Germany and Let's Go was my constant companion. My Let's Go guide survived violent almost-deadly storms on Lake Constance, brave climbs straight up the cliffs of the Rhineland, and not just one glass of fabulous German wine spilled on its pages. The Southwest Germany section is especially intriguing and rich in wilderness adventures (but watch out for those nettles!). A definite "thumbpick" for this book! :-P
the most up-to-date and useful guide i have found.......2004-12-16
i am just thrilled about let's go germany, 12th edition. it is an amazing book, much much superior to its predecessors. in comparison, the new guide offers many more pages of detailed advice, including new sights (such as toy-making towns in the former DDR and a brewery-monastery atop a hill near munich).
the detailed advice for saving money is a boon for the budget-conscious. the book has made me so excited about my upcoming trip to germany. i compared it to other products available on the market and none has the breadth and depth of coverage of this one.

Book Description
Food packages are the weapons in the war to win a consumer's loyalty. With the huge investment required to develop new and compete with older brands, strategies are employed that would rival many military operations. Food Wrap is a profusely visual record of the contemporary packages that transcend the commonplace--the concepts are smart, the designs are beautiful, and what's more, they possess real appetite appeal.
Customer Reviews:
An outstanding book!!!.......2006-07-04
I have owned a marketing and graphic design firm for the past 17 years and have used this book many, many times to help generate some great ideas and guide clients as to their likes and dislikes. Great books like these are a huge boon to designers. Using it we can do a quick and comprehensive study of successful food packaging. I have owned many design books over the years and this is one of the best. It shows a very wise range of styles and the vast majority are outstanding. Great design tends to be timeless design.
Title is misleading, and book is poorly written.......1998-04-17
I was disappointed for two reasons: this is not a textbook of "packages that sell"--it's an exhibit of interesting and edgy packaging that may or may not "sell". My biggest problem with the book was that the text was VERY hard to read because there was no punctuation! It's amazing what commas can do, and I finally gave up trying to read and reread passages that had no punctuation except a period now and then. And I guess I was expecting to learn some of the basic and almost subliminal techniques of packaging that break through the clutter and sell a product. I pretty much flipped through the book in less than 1/2 hour and haven't picked it up since.
Customer Reviews:
Fluff content.......2006-07-08
There are lots of nice terrier pictures but there is nothing here that you can't get from a Google search. I also don't think you can buy a "handbook" on a dog...they are not appliances!
Pretty pictures.......2004-11-24
The American Kennel Club (AKC) recommends this book. The first 50 pages of the 93-page book are dedicated to the history of the breed, characteristics and the AKC standard. The balance of the book contains good information about purchasing and preparing for your puppy. I already had a dog so this wasn't of much interest to me. In addition, there is some general care information (grooming, feeding & training). This portion did not go into great depth. There is a beautiful, glossy, color photo on all but 7 pages of the book. Really awesome pictures, adorable dogs. The back, inside cover has a picture of a dog with descriptions of all the dog's parts. Kind-of neat. I was hoping to get more care information. The approximately 1 page on grooming didn't suggest any type of brush, which is one thing I was looking for.

Customer Reviews:
This book has little value to the average collector........1999-03-27
It is, by no means, a comprehensive guide to the price of glassware, 20,000 price listings notwithstanding. It is poorly organized, with few illustrations. Some popular patterns by well-known manufacturers are missing entirely, while others have been paid scant attention at best. Individually, pattern listings are inconsistent, with very few pieces of some popular patterns represented while other patterns have multiple pages devoted to them. The index provided little help, listing patterns variously by name, type (such as Depression or Art Glass) or manufacturer. The pages on hallmark identification were helpful, as was the glossary of terms, and there is a section on well-known periodicals and collector's organizations. Probably a good book for Carnival Glass collectors (nearly 200 pages devoted to this type of glass); the rest would do better sticking to books by Florence or others.
Not for the novice........1998-07-19
Very difficult for a person who does not know about all the classifications of glassware to find what he/she is looking for. Not enough illustrations. The best pages were the trademarks of glassmakers. That does give somewhat of a headstart. Would not purchase it again. I am the novice who gets glass and doesn't know how to identify it.
Customer Reviews:
Garden Guy.......2007-07-18
This a great companion book to David Owens book "Extreme Gardenning". They are like my bible to gardening organic in the desert of Arizona.
EXCELLENT GUIDE TO DESERT GARDENING.......2007-05-09
Anyone gardening in the hostile desert knows how tough it is to garden. Can't say this book makes it easy, however, it sure makes it easier !
Some of his ideas are so simple, yet so effective. For example, stop fighting with uncooperative clay soil - put an old hay bale on top of the clay, and grow there !! It works, and over time the hay or straw softens the clay, too....Can't imagine not having this book as I garden...

Book Description
“Cool, fully engaged, brilliant and tough.” —Rick Whitaker, The Washington Post Book World
Theoretically, I am ready to go to anything—once. If it moves, I’m interested; if it moves to music, I’m in love.” From 1973 until 1998 Arlene Croce wrote The New Yorker’s dance column, which was created for her. Her entertaining, forthright, passionate reviews and essays revealed the logic and history of ballet, modern dance, and their postmodern variants to a generation of theatergoers. They offer vital commentary on the late works of George Balanchine and on such classics as Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, and Cinderella. Croce chronicles the flourishing careers of Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Merce Cunningham, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Suzanne Farrell and, as the century ends, the problematic status of the great national ballet companies: New York City Ballet, Britain’s Royal Ballet, and Russia’s Kirov and Bolshoi Ballets. This volume of her most significant and provocative writings reverberates with consequence and controversy for the state of the art today.
Customer Reviews:
'Erstwhile' Twirp.......2006-08-27
I could not let this book remain on display with only a single star attached to it. One sad and angry man's hiss cannot obscure the fact that Arlene Croce was the most extraordinary dance critic of the late 20th century. I love this book. The pieces have been selected and presented with great care and it stands whole as an elegant and lasting tribute to Croce's three decades of fine observation and critical accomplishment.
Arlene Croce and Bill T. Jones.......2006-06-09
Since Arlene Croce critized Bill T. Jones's 'Still/Here' without seeing it, I'll critize her book without reading it. I did read her original attack in the New Yorker.
Croce's attack on Jones was rightly received by the dance world with repugnance and disbelief. I'm not surprised to read that she has no background in dance; she is also a shoddy human being.
Buying this book puts money in the pocket of a monstrous person and her publisher. Avoid it -- and her -- like the plague.

Customer Reviews:
The book has no pictures!.......2006-02-21
This book was one of 3 we took on our trip last year. It was the worst of the 3 and the information was somewhat dated. Forget going to Londan at the $90 a day price tag. You will hate it, even if your are cheap, like me. Cheap London hotels listed in book are dumps and mostly unsafe. Pros: The book is small and wont take up rome in your back pack. It has some address and numbers if you want to call a place. Although the price of a call is not worth it. It had the best cheap resturants of any of the 3 books. If you dont know, London is expensive. Cons: The book has no pictures! I never trust what the writters of the guides print without pictures. I may feel differently about a place. The book is paper back and pages are of cheap paper.
If you can only get one book, make this the last option. Cheers!

Saved a buck!!.......2004-01-06
I had an amazing experience on a relatively low budget. I've gone on vacation to various places and spent thousands of dollars but this trip, I was able to budget my money well and experience the best and brightest of London. I feel like I experienced more of the country because I wasn't limited by my budget.

Customer Reviews:
Staightforward, effective, user friendly guide & reference........2002-03-29
A-1 K-9: A Six-week Schedule Of Dog Training Made As Easy As A-B-C, 1-2-3! by canine expert is a straightforward, effective, "user friendly" guide to teaching a canine companion obedience to simple commands. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs, A-1 K-9 contains explicitly clear instructions for pet owners to effectively and humanely train their dog to come when called, sit on command, or lie down. Divided into segments with quizzes to check how well the reader has absorbed information, A-1 K-9 is a first-rate "how to" guidebook and reference for anyone ready to learn how to train their dog!
A-1 K-9.......2002-03-27
What a delightful book. I particularly liked the simplistic, but direct approach this book makes on training animals. It was written so informatively and down to earth that ANYONE can now train their animal by just following these clear, but concise instructions. I am sending a copy to my grandson who is getting a new puppy. He will cherish having this information available to him. My congratulations to the author on a job well done.
Excellent training Methods.......2002-03-27
This is a very easy book to train your dog, whether young or older. Good reading.
Kids and K-9's.......2002-03-20
This was a wonderful book for my children to use. The photographs made it easy for them to understand. Both of my kids got a puppy for Christmas and have used this book to successfully train the puppies to sit, down and come!
A FAMILY JEWEL! A MUST HAVE!.......2002-03-06
I've been a dog trainer for the past two years and I use positive and loving methods to train my "students" and the results are always exellent! People learn that you can communicate with dog using love, respect, praise, fun, games... and everybody wins, both dogs and "parents". I strongly condemn the "newspaper smacking" ways; that's why I recommend this book to all of my customers. Is a great post training and forever training tool they should have at home. They might train one dog and 10 years later they get another one, this book is an exellent reference to always keep on hand. Is a classic. And is written in a very readable way where a 10 yr. old and a 90 yr. old can both use it and be successful! Way to go!!!

Book Description
With adolescent swagger, BAD GIRL tells the unnerving story of an outlaw young life that must be broken, reshaped and finally redeemed.
At fifteen Abigail Vona was Involved with boys, booze, drugs and stealing anything and everything she could lay her hands on. She was spiraling out of control. Helpless to control his daughter, Mr. Vona committed Abigail to Peninusla Village, a controversial treatment facility for “behavior modification” in Louisville, Tennessee. No sooner did she walk through the door she was put on suicide watch which lasted for 3 months. She was not allowed to dress in more than a hospital gown until she graduated to “level-three lockdown” and “wilderness boot camp” where she stayed for nearly a year. And though it all started as a nightmare, it eventually became her salvation.
Customer Reviews:
More Confessions that I love.......2007-07-24
Just because Vona dabbled in drugs or other "bad" things as a teen, she's labeled a "bad girl." I can relate to much in the story because the writing is so raw and real I am ripped open as a reader with the writer's brutally honest words.
Like the books CONFESSIONS OF A CATHOLIC SCHOOLGIRL and PROZAC NATION this is a must read for any teen or young woman that struggles to find herself in a mixed up world.
absolute dreck.......2007-02-28
Not a memoir of delinquency but a chronicle of Vona's incarceration in a juvenile "boot camp." Atrociously written by someone who comes across as a spoiled rich girl with a fondness for stereotypes, and whose "delinquency" seems to have involved nothing more heinous than dating a drug dealer and indulging in a brief "runaway" period to a vacation cabin with friends. Not recommended. (For a more compelling story written by a more sympathetic narrator in less painful prose, see Daphne Scholinski's The Last Time I Wore a Dress.)
Bad Girl.......2006-11-07
My Daughter did 13 Months at Peninsula Village and it was her saviour as well. This is one of th emost respected centers in the world. At a cost of $9600 per month it had better be. We are pleased with the staff and Peninsula Village and they gave us our child back after 13 months a totally better person. The person who wrote this book trumped it up to sell books bottom line. Their is a lot of non truth items in this book.
Horrible.......2006-08-22
An advertisement for an abusive facility that breaks kids and then puts them back together as brainwashed robots... as told by one of their so-called 'successes'. Shocking only in the way that the author seems to truly believe that being isolated from human contact, allowed no friends and no conversation, and spending most of the day sitting on her bed (not being allowed to talk or even look at things), truly helped her 'recover'.
Dingy Peninsula.......2006-07-07
Abigail Vona considers herself a normal teen with rebellion issues, including breaking curfew; joyriding and getting involved just shy of sex with boys. The book opens with Abigail relating a heavy petting session with a boy named Keno and her balancing relationship with another boy named Matt.
Abigail's parents are divorced; she spends the majority of her time with her father and stepmother. An older sister is described as dual diagnoses - schizophrenic and autistic. Abigail missed the train when she said her sister was like the tired cliche character of "Rain Man," which is a slur among the autistic world. Her sister did not display any savant behaviors; instead, the behavior Abigail described showed the girl's mental illness. Elizabeth, 11 years Abby's senior beat her because "the voices in her head told her to," threw Abby down a flight of stairs; ran around naked in their neighborhood with Abby in tow, also naked and had a fascination with evil vampires. Their brother Ted, also has substance abuse issues as well as a tendency to act out.
Abby's father tricks her by telling her Peninsula Village is a camp. Once there, she is met by medical personnel and her first day sounds like pure hell. Since she resists being there (who wouldn't), she is put into an isolation room she calls the kennel. Bound and restrained by staff, she is left there for nearly an hour. This happens 3 times that first day.
She does not know the rules; she is told to call a Group Meeting; Confrontation (telling on another inmate) and Expression (talking about feelings on a limited basis). Dr. Wisely, who runs these sessions tells the girls what to talk about and restricts the amount of time they can talk. Other inmates and their behavior are described and the place sounds truly horrible. Abby is kept "in gowns" (hospital pajamas) and placed on a suicide watch after she screamed for death that first day. Abby said she was not suicidal and didn't sound like it; she was just reacting to the horror of her environment and the way she was being treated.
After serving three months there, Abby graduates to the Cabins. The inmates there are allowed more freedom. The Cabins are equipped with bunks and are described as camplike facilities. The girls have two martinets watching them; they have to have somebody within 3 feet of them at all times. The smallest actions are considered infractions; any girl so much as looking at the boys in the joint cafeteria receives a punishment.
Many of the punishments seemed rather bizarre. Abby learns to play the game by giving the desired response. Unlike NOT THE THING I WAS, which was a thesis on "The Stockholm Syndrome," Abby does not become one of her captors. She learns a lot about herself and learns good survival skills, but to her credit does not break.
After serving 328 days there, Abby is finally released. She then attends a special school for students with dyslexia in her native Connecticut. One can hope that her life will be a good one.
