Still the best.......2004-08-07

New format looks good for this old favorite. The 10th edition,published by Rutgers Univ. Press, may be a little milder in its view of NJ outings than previous editions, but the book still has a "voice". There are many new entries, quite a few of the short, factual variety so newcomers to the state should find plenty to do. Earlier editions had better cross-references and indexes, but this one has better driving directions and includes websites for almost all entries.
Out of state entries like th Crayola Factory or Hyde Park are now found at the end of each chapter, so once you get used to this you know where to find them. STill the best alll around guidebook to New Jersey.

Mere words cannot express how very disappointed I was in this book. Perhaps if it was any good, I could have drawn you a picture instead.

I'm sure the book was fine when it was originally written in 1996. Since then, technology and resources have changed so much as to make this book completely outdated.

Using the Brookman Stamp Price Guides, along with Scotts USA Specialized, do help a lot in making good auction bids for many of those missing spaces in anyone's album - Scott catalogue values versus Brookman values - the winning bid is always somewhere in between. A must have philatelic reference tool for any serious collector of USA and/or BNA.

Very helpful for a beginning gardener.......2007-09-06

As a beginning gardener, this book has helped me quickly focus in on plants that will work where I live. The pictures are great for identifying neighbors' plants. His descriptions are brief, but more candid (and helpful) than the dry, encyclopedic listings which can be found in other books. Plus his writing is fun to read. I initially borrowed this (and many many many others) from the library. This is one of the few I am buying for ongoing reference.

Book is overpriced, but it costs even more at the bookstore.There isn't really anything new here in this book or anything that couldn't be found in other garden books, in fact, this book offers even a little less than some garden books.

Not your garden-variety gardening book!.......2007-04-20

I live in the upper Midwest, where the climate is extremely cold, wet, and windy, ( except when it's extremely hot, wet and windy) and the growing season is short. But with the help of this book, I learned how to avoid spending money on plants and garden items that just don't work. That means more money to spend on plants that do work, and more free time to enjoy them.

If you live in the region covered by this book, have a garden, or would like have a garden, you really need this book. If you have been baffled or thwarted by all the gardening books and magazines that seem to make things too complicated, or if you just don't know where to start, you need this book! It lives up to the title, because the plants listed in this book really do grow beautifully in our climate with hardly any effort, once you get them in the ground. There is enough variety to satisfy just about anyone's taste in colors and plant forms, and most of the plants are easy to find in your local nursery.

I loved the author's sense of humor and his wonderful attitude-finally someone with the sense to say what I always wanted to hear. Lazy gardening is good gardening!!

This is the best gardening book I own. Orginally, I borrowed it from my local library for 6 months. I just couldn't take it back-kept renewing it and renewing it. It was indispensable. Finally, I broke down and bought 5 copies - for myself, my mother and all my friends. Mr. Rushing gives great advice for northern gardners, as we are kind of a "special" club. Also, he has a wonderful sense of humour, so the book is enjoyable to read. I still snicker over some of his comments. It is a great gift for ANY "Northern Gardener," novice or expert.

Essential reference for the history of Dutch science.......1999-06-11

This is the place to start when you are looking for information about the history of science in the Netherlands. This book is a combination of new work and 're-cycled' material from older books, including Van Berkel's overview of Dutch Science from 1985, 'De voetsporen van Stevin'. Although the quality of the presented work is high, so, unfortunately, is the price; almost two hundred dollars is outrageous for such an essential work (especially when you realise that the technical quality of the volume is mediocre: normal paper, no color reproductions), but regrettably typical for this publisher; so most people will have to go to the library to read this work.

Women Breaking Barriers.......2000-10-22

Dancing Women: Female Bodies on Stage is an exceptional creation that explores women in dance. Banes gives in-depth historical and social reference for the dances in this book. This context allows the reader to more fully understand the characters on stage and the women off stage. She shows us the significance of the ever-changing "marriage plot" and how it affected choreography and influenced women to break through the social barriers in their lives. It is very educational and inspiring to read about women changing the course of art in Europe and America during the 19th and 20th centuries. I recommend Dancing Women: Female Bodies on Stage to anyone interested in dance history and the woman's rising power in the arts.
