Great companion for our first RV experience.......2007-10-02

Had taken a local community college course in RV'ing and this book was one of the recommended readings/references. Our first RV experience was a rental on a trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Read much of this book before we went and carried it with us on the trip. Had several occasions to reference it and re-read many portions. Was a great companion and was a much better reference than the materials that the rental facility provided. Recommend it to anyone renting an RV for the first time. Can't speak to how good it is to those who are seasoned RV'ers.

Its mostly about motors........2007-02-07

This book is only about 1/3 about RVing. The other 2/3 is about RV motors, how to troubleshoot them, how to maintain them, etc. If you want to know how your RV (other than the motor) works, look elsewhere.

Helpful Guide for RVers.......2006-04-11

Experienced or a beginner, RVers must learn a lot to care for their investment in a motorhome, fifth-wheel or trailer. This book has some advice I haven't seen elsewhere.
It tells how to weigh the different RVs on a scale, tire care (aging and ozone cracking), selecting a tow vehicle, understanding propane, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
It includes some checklists which come in handy:
*Dinghy Towing Inspection checklist
*Ignition-System Checklist for Gasoline Engines
*Diesel Engine Prestart Checklist
*Short-Term Storage Checklist
*Return Trip Checklist
*Steps for Dumping a Holding Tank
The graphics are well-drawn, clearly labeled and helpful. A troubleshooting diesel engines flowchart and one for gasoline engines really lays out the options clearly.

Not what I wanted!.......2005-09-02

Probably a good book for a non mechanic. I was looking for some detail on the equipment on a towable camper.

Not for Beginner Travel Trailer RVers.......2001-11-16

I received my copy of The Rv Handbook recently from a used book dealer. It arrived quickly and was in very good condition.

It is too bad that the book itself was such a disappointment. Mr. Estes spends more than half of the book talking about engines, Motor Homes only stuff and vehicles that pull the RV's. He barely touched on the things I was interested in, namely things like the RV systems, troubleshooting, RV setup in a dry camp. Mr. Estes also went into great detail about the battery and how it works. I am not interested in the details of how it works, only how to hook it up without a manual. From the reviews I read on your site, I was led to believe that the book would provide more basic info for all RVers. I guess that what I am looking for is a book such as "I BOUGHT A USED RV- NOW WHAT?"

An excellent history of the Jews.......2005-04-24

This book is clearly designed to be read by children. It begins with some Biblical history, interspersing archaeological evidence about these times. We learn about the Jewish Diaspora as well as Jews of the Levant. There is even a page about Birobidjan, with a couple of photos and maps. There is dramatic material about the Jews during World War II, and about the fight to rid the Levant of British rule. It is very well written.

not as good as guide as you'd hope.......2007-05-26

I have a slightly different edition that the one pictured (as far as I know they are the same title and author different cover picture). Really isn't a good guide alone for caring of a Uromastyx and really not much information if you're looking for Butterfly Agamids. Lots of pictures which often interrupt the writing, sometimes the picture doesn't have much to do with the topic it is surrounded by. Reads more like a Zoo Book article than a serious guide. Not a total waste (not kinderling for your next bon fire) it can be slightly informative with other sources.
Side note: I found it funny that I could not find a publishing date in or around the book itself.

Not alot of information.......2001-12-28

This book has not enough information, and actually some of it is even false, if you know anything at all about the care and keeping of uros. I am a uro owner and belong to a uro club, and found that there is alot of important information that is not included in this book. It is mostly pictures, and doesn't even have info on some of the most common species of this lizard. I wouldn't bother buying this, you'd get better info out on the net from actual uro owners than you would from this book.

Uromastyx and Butterfly Agamids by Jerry G. Walls.......2001-06-08

Some good color photos. The book is reasonably informative, but like most amateur books and magazine articles, glosses over some of the important issues like problems encountered keeping Uromastyx and doesn't make much use of what is already published about these lizards in the literature. Additionally, there are some incorrectly labeled photos.

After exhaustive enquiries by both myself and my family, i have finally got a hold of this book. my brother found it, by chance, in a chinese tea shop in penang. the shop had 2 copies left - 1 that he had autographed. they sold me the other one.
A beautiful book, everything i expected and more. As a lover of chinese teas, I found Mr Lim's thoughts both unique and sensible. Not all chinese tea conossieurs may agree with his views but nonetheless, this is a book written with both passion and authority.

I have scoured bookstores for a hardcopy, I found this book is really hard to come by. Chinatown? I work in SF, what places are you talkin' about?

Rather than sending people on wild goose chases for low prices that don't exist, better if you just said you liked the book.

I will, the book is a classic with wonderful photographs, warmth and detail. The discussion about the relation between teapot and tea is a subtlety, like many details of Asian style tea brewing, that is virtually unknown to Westerners.

This is a classic book for collectors and connoisseurs.
And if anyone is going to reproduce it, I have not heard of such a plan. What a tweaker.

Do you like Yixing teapots?.......2003-06-06

Interesting book but would be a mistake think it's just a collection of Yixing teapots'photos.
Author develops his ideas about an "affinity" between teas and "not glazed" teapots like Yixing's.
Some ideas are good some others arguable but this book worth a reading.

The beauty of this book.............2002-06-25

This is a real stunner for anyone who has a penchant for YiXing teapots. When I received this lovely work as a Christmas gift, I was so stunned, I almost cried. Lim Kean Siew is obviously a great lover of these unique teapots and this book does a beautiful job of displaying that love. The photos are perfectly lit, show fine detail and make you really want each teapot! But, sorry, all of the teapots pictured are from his private collection. He does a nice job of describing his early tea experiences, his budding appreciation of YiXing teapots and the history of where they originated. I found the duel printing of his words in both english and chinese very welcome and helped to set the 'atmosphere' of this book. And, since you purchase one of these teapots for both use and artistic beauty, he displays gorgeous teapot images from his private collection with a recommendation of the precise tea best enjoyed in that teapot. While not all that useful (the recommendations), the photos are certainly stunning 'eye candy'. From the very first teapot pictured, I simply wanted to own each and every one. After his gallery of teapots he describes how to enjoy tea properly. He goes into enough detail to satisfy any YiXing teapot enthusist. My only complaints (if you can call them that): the teapots pictured are one of a kind so tea recommendations are not very helpful, the translation from Chinese to English could be a little bit better and I think the editor should have pared some of the rambling (the tests at the end maybe?). But, I assure you, this is a very nice book that would make a great conversation piece.

The North American pitcher plants (Sarracenia) are among the most spectacular carnivorous plants, and also the easiest to grow in temperate climates. Although Sarracenia have long been confused with unrelated tropical Nepenthes pitchers, gardeners are becoming aware that many of these hardy plants will thrive in the open, from parts of southern Canada to the cooler subtropics. Sarracenia thrive best in the open garden and usually show their richest colors in full sun.

This book is the first complete guide to these ornamental plants, from natural history to hybridization, and from making a bog garden to using the pitchers as long-lasting cut `flowers.' It brings together practical and academic information to give new insights into the biology and evolution of a dynamically changing group. All species and many hybrids are shown in their richest colors.

In the wild, most stands of these species have disappeared, mostly through drainage of wetlands, but also through poaching and cutting for the floristry trade. To ease some of the many pressures on the wild populations, commercial growers—from collectors and florists to aquaculturists—are looking at raising many species and hybrids for cut pitchers. The final section describes how to produce these exotic-looking yet readily raised pitchers for sale.

It seems this text is becoming harder and harder to get a hold of these days. I suggest that if you're interested in Sarracenia that you get a copy of this while you can. The price isn't bad and, while the book is a bit thin, it has a unique coverage of areas you won't find in other books. Definitely check it out and add it to your library of CP books before it becomes unavailable.

Growing pitcher plants means GARDENING WITH CARNIVORES that add sculptured good looks and vivid colors to the garden while eating such pesty insects as wasps, flies, blowflies, and ants. Author Nick Romanowski is particularly interested in the purple pitcher species. For they grow in nontropical parts of Australia and New Zealand, as well as Canada and the northern United States, and much of Europe and Great Britain. They do best in outdoor bog gardens, where they can be grown by dividing their rhizomes, hand pollinating, or planting their seeds. Florists pay good money for cut pitchers and flowers, with the most sought-after species being the White. But Purples could take over what with ever more successful hybridizations. They are already seen as good investments for research dollars. For they remain carnivorous, but not of all bugs. In fact, they support thriving bug communities in their water-filled pitchers. They could bring in even lots more money once it gets around that they keep algae from growing. Just think what that could mean for the swimming pools and water bodies of the world!

God knows there are enough of them out there.....The flowers are beautiful and even the seed pods have been mistaken for the flower on numerous occasions they are great plants.There isn't anything for a person who wishes to grow other cps besides the basics which transfer over to many american cps.
