Customer Reviews:
Don't leave home without it.......2002-11-12
The Visible Cities Guidebooks are consistently the best guidebooks in the market. They are well-informed, up-to-date and easy to use. The Dubrovinik Guide is a must-have for those who are fortunate enough to spend time in this lovely seaside town. The guided walks are a terrific feature and help you see the city through a native's eye. The book is beautifully written and is one of the few guidebooks that can be read cover to cover. Well worth the investment.
Customer Reviews:
Love the illustrations.......2005-10-19
I'm an adult, but I found this book very helpful in the study about the Aztecs. The illustrations really help to bring the period to life. It covers some mature topics though, like human sacrifice that I hope won't disturb kids reading this book. A great overview about the conquest of Mexico.
Empathy for the Aztecs.......2000-03-07
Tanaka attempts to portray Cortez's invasion of Mexico from the persective of the Aztecs. Illustrations are vivid and there is lots of information and food for discussion in these pages. Minor discrepancies exist, but overall an excellent book to help balance the Western view of history.

A wealth of sound advice on how to "listen to" and really understand your horse, with a caring approach to techniques for training and overcoming behavioral problems.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent!.......2004-10-22
I really appreciated the information set forth by Max. He really does attempt to understand the horse in each situation. Even though a lot of the info I already have for myself after working with horses for so long, a lot of it also gave me new insight. Very informative!
"Where's Max?".......2001-11-15
I really did not like reading a book that was so much in 2nd person, there was some really good information in the book, but I grew weary of hearing Lesley's say "Max finds" "Max then sends" "Max is asking" and would of liked to hear Max explain the how and why for himself.
Read it again.......2000-06-06
In response to the reader who felt that Richard Maxwell was taking the credit for Monty's work, I would like to point out that Richard is infact Monty's STUDENT and is mentioned in Monty's book The Man Who Listens To Horses. Richard, who was in the household cavalry and present at the demonstration Monty gave for the Queen, was for a long time the only person authorized to use Monty's techniques here in the UK. Additionally having read Richards other book, and seen him in action, I can honestly assure readers that he is indeed brillient and can teach you a great deal about handling problem horses

Nice ideas.......2000-03-31
about how to get your horse to actually *want* to do what you are asking of him. This book stresses humane, painless, fearless and fair interaction between horse and human. However, there are two things that bother me greatly about this book. First, the style of the writer makes this book more of an ego-trip than anything else (one can only say that many times someone is great and unbelievable). Second, as far as I know, the methods discussed in this book are largely from Monty Roberts, not from Richard Maxwell, and the latter seems to take all credit.
Book Description
This is the most comprehensive study of Old West art and antiques from the Golden State to date. Best quality furniture, gold and silver objects, gold quartz jewelry, gambling tools, firearms, Bowie knives, and beer advertising items of California significance from 1850 to 1920 are shown in over 700 color photos with extensive descriptions and history. An extensive directory of California makers and manufacturers is especially useful for reference. California's Old West legacy is captured in the dramatic imagery and carefully researched explanations.
Book Description
With more than 200 lists of plants grouped by their horticultural characteristics and uses in the garden, this is the one of a kind guide to spending less time and wasting less money on your garden.
Customer Reviews:
THIS BOOK IS A MUST !!!.......2000-10-12
It's almost always by my side. As a landscape designer, sometimes I draw a blank when looking for a specific plant for a specific, sometimes tricky, situation. This book has about 100 different lists to work with (maybe more?, maybe less, but it seems like 100 or more!) A few examples: Vines that climb by tendrils versus by twining versus by clinging; trees that have problem root systems, drop messy fruit or leaves, or that have beautiful bark and/or trunk structure; shrubs for oceanside sites, for erosion control, for shady areas. There are the same types of lists (plus many more) for ground covers, perennials, annuals, etc; The lists only give the common and botanical name for the plants in each catagory, it does not give any details about the plant, so you have to know your plants. But for anyone in the profession, or an amature who knows their plants, this book is a must. The only drawback: it doesn't have a cross reference/ index for each of the lists, so you have to go through each chapter (broken down by perennials, trees, shrubs, roses, vines, ferns, ground covers and annuals.) I still recommend it 100%.

Beddow, a dancer who appeared in numerous Fosse shows (she replaced Gwen Verdon in one of his early shows) and recreated some of his choreography for national touring shows, checks in with a show-by-show account of Fosse's career, from Pajama Game through Sweet Charity and Pippin to
Big Deal -- all told from a dancer's point of view. The book is at its best when it vividly describes some of Fosse's "lost" dances for lesser-known shows like Frank Loesser's
Pleasures and Palaces, which closed out of town. Included are many rare photos of Fosse's dancers in action, and a heartbreaking account of his last rehearsal on the day he died.
Book Description
This show by show analysis of one of Broadway's preeminent American choreographers, the angular and jazzy Bob Fosse, is delivered by Fosse compatriot, dancer, and road choreographer Margery Beddow. With an introduction by Roy Scheider, and filled with photos, Bob Fosse's Broadway contains all the hits: from Sweet Charity to Damn Yankees, the Pajama Game, Pippin, Dancin', Chicago, and more!
Customer Reviews:
Great source!.......2007-05-13
I purchased this book as a resource when I began choreographing a production of "Chicago". The perspective from one of his main dancers is very interesting, getting insights about how the various shows and specific dance numbers were created. Definitely a good book for a dancer's or choreographer's collection!
A vital resource to theatre buffs & historians.......2000-04-14
Here for once is first hand musical theatre history written by someone who took part in the making of some extraordinary shows. A dancer who worked with Bob Fosse (as both a performer and an assistant) gives us her personal insights in how the man worked. It is a very rare thing to get such an intimate view from inside the creative process. Ever wonder why "Fosse dancers" are a breed apart? This book is a great place to start finding the answer.
Excellent backstage stories from Broadway musicals........1997-12-08
Less comprehensive than most other books on Bob Fosse, this book focuses on Margery Beddow's experiences while working with the great master of dance. She recounts back stage happenings, and let's you in on little known facts about these great musicals. She takes a more personal look at Bob Fosse, but at times can get lost in a dreamy yearning for yester year.(But who wouldn't!) I recommend this book to anyone who has a career in theatre or dance, as it is a truthful look at a successful gypsy's life. I have had the pleasure of working with the author in a touring show when she was writing this book, and have watched it's progress. Margery has done the theatre communtiy a tremendous favor by preserving this up-close and personal look at Bob Fosse, and his work.

Book Description
Meet the hardest working man in soul food. The world got a taste of home-style chef and philosopher Weaver D when his motto "Automatic for the People" was used by hometown band R.E.M. as the title for their bestselling album. But his own loyal fans know that being Automatic-keeping on with the keep-on in good times and bad, and knowing that life, like food, is always better with a few generous shots of hot sauce-is really Weaver D's down-to-earth recipe for business success and personal happiness. His pragmatic philosophy is as soul-satisfying as a double serving of his Three Cheese Mac 'n' Cheese. Includes 50 of his long-sought-after soul food recipes.
Customer Reviews:
disappointed south ga. girl.......2005-01-31
if you are looking for that good down home cooking? , then don't waste your time or money on this book., i have tried several recipes in this book., needless to say, i have wasted a lot of time and money preparing the food., what a disappointment! i am a south ga, country girl., and i know good food., and this is not it!., i used the very best meats and vegetables, and still no good!., his recipes are lacking ingredients? i am glad i tested the recipes, before the super bowl party!
Funny, unique voice.......2000-03-20
This is a great book by a soul-food master. There were two parts which were so funny that I literally dropped the book out of my hand, but there are other passages, like the one in which little Weaver adds too much salt to the canned peas he is making for his bed-ridden grandma, that had me bawling! If you've ever been to R.E.M.-country (Athens, GA) and had Weaver's great food, you'll love his easy-to-follow home-style recipes that are in the back of the book after his memoir. I've made his Three Cheese Mac N' Cheese two times already and I'm not particularly a whiz in the kitchen. Just by coincidence, this is the third Hill Street Press book I've ordered--they are a cool, little publishing company based in Weaver's hometown.
Way to go Weaver!.......2000-03-20
I heard Weaver on Weekend Edition Saturday with Scott Simon. Though I haven't seen him in years and moved from Athens a long time ago, I will carry to my grave my fond memories of Weaver D and his smiling face (and good food). Read this book! It's the real deal!
Fantastic Book From a Fantastic Person.......1999-11-02
Dexter Weaver is the most down to earth person around...and it really comes through in his book. Everything, from his views on life to the recipes in the back are GREAT. If you want to read an uplifting story about life and how to live it, read this book.
ps. His food is mighty fine too.
