Customer Reviews:
Wedding Destinations is just that.......2007-03-23
I own a info website and thought that this book would be useful for assisting in the reviews and generating ideas. It did just that, although some of the desinations seemed to mundane.
Marginally Useful Resource for Getaway Weddings.......2006-10-22
While the information provided for each venue in this book is useful and detailed in its own right, the actual venues chosen are quite suspect in many cases. It seems pretty clear there is an arrangement with some of them to be included in the book, rather than being places that were discovered through research by the author. IOW, many great places are left out because they weren't part of the "marketing plan". Also, while it's admirable to include as many states as possible, the plain fact is many states simply lack any real destination "pull".
Example: South Carolina is a state with literally dozens of beautiful seaside resorts, huge gardens and old historic places where one might want to have a ceremony. There is ONE listing for South Carolina... the same number of places listed for Minnesota (Mall of America???). The fact that Mall of America made it into a listing of America's 100 best "destinations" for a wedding, tells you something about how carefully the places in this book were considered. Similarly one listing for Alaska seems incredibly short-sighted, considering all the cruises and beautiful National Parks there. Meantime there are more than 12 locations listed for New Mexico. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are some beautiful locations in NM, but that is a disproportionate number of listings for a place most people will not have on their "short list of states".
Another problem with the book is that it has about a dozen pictures total, all in the front of the book, so there are many many locations you don't even get a sense for. How is the average couple supposed to say "Yes, that's the place we want to look into!" if you can't even see a picture of it? Bottom line: many great locations are overlooked in favor of those the author presumably has some connection with, and that helps no one...
...I do not recommend this book other than to borrow from someone (just in case the place for you happens to be here).
Where's the WOW! Factor?.......2006-03-18
This is a nice little book. It contains and describes a number of places I would never have thought of. The references are very helpful. However, it covers only 100 places (as advertised) and few of them have the WOW! factor I expected from a book with his title.
I recommend the book. It's a can't hurt, might help item that is not very expensive. It's worth the price.
Book Description
Many slave spirituals-songs such as "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore," and "Go Down, Moses"-have become interwoven into the fabric of American culture. For centuries these deeply moving songs were sung by slaves as they worked in the fields. In 1871, six years after the end of slavery, a group from Fisk University known as the Jubilee Singers toured the United States and abroad, raising money for their bankrupt school and, more important, bringing slave spirituals to the attention of a wide audience. This engrossing account, illustrated with archival prints and photographs and appended with the words and music to seven songs, tells the inspiring story of the Jubilee Singers and reveals spirituals to be an invaluable and unique history of American slavery.
Customer Reviews:
About music that reflected the hopes and despairs of slavery.......2001-11-05
Michael Cooper's Slave Spirituals And The Jubilee Singers provides a revealing history of the music which reflected the hopes and despairs of slavery. The Jubilee Singers embarked on a tour to raise money for their struggling school and succeeded in not only achieving personal fame, but bringing slave spirituals to the world. Archival prints and photos are included in this inspirational account.

Book Description
Let's face it: we all know our pooches are trying to tell us something, whether it's maniacal barking, a frantically wagging tail or a conveniently timed and placed... er...'accident,' they've got lots to say. Unfortunately, until now we've had no way to figure it all out. How to Be a Dog Psychic teaches readers how to crack the Canine Code and get to the bones of the matter. Readers will learn: How to spot pet depression before it becomes a major problem, how Fido really feels about his leash, his collar and being left alone all day long, how to identify subtle and not-so-subtle signs of loyalty and affection, and how to prolong your pup's life by always staying one paw ahead of the game!
Customer Reviews:
Hopeful for Better Understanding.......2007-02-11
Yes, Danika's book talks about meditation and communicating telepathically with your dog. But it's also about dog psychology and how your dog needs and wants you to be the "pack leader".
She weaves in lots of personal accounts about animals she's known or done work with as an animal communicator. I was fascinated by the stories of how she was able to find out that her female cat was being terrorized by the male cats in the household (brothers!) and how she was able to solve the problem. (Removing the cover from the litter box kept the boys from sneaking up on the poor girl).
There are stories about finding out that a dog was in the early stages of cancer before any exterior symptoms were being shown and another of finding out that a dog was really tired of being sick and tired and was ready to "go". She also weaves in recommendations for other books and websites such as the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen.
Essentially, this book is about strengthening your bond with your pet and who doesn't want that?
Pet Telepathy, Give Me A Break!.......2007-01-16
I'm the proud owner of 2 Bichons. I thought this book would help me understand how the dogs think and provide tips for better communication with my pets. I only read the first few chapters. I was instructed to meditate and take on an animal spiritual guide. It informed me that I could pass messages to my dogs just by thinking. I know dogs pick up on our emotions, energy levels, and body language. I also realize that spoken word in any language is not the dog's natural form of communication, but this book was talking about speaking a language that neither my dogs nor I could understand! Unless you are one with nature, stay away from this book!

Book Description
Anderson's book provides the most accessible approach to compressible flow for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students and professionals. In keeping with previous versions, the 3rd edition uses numerous historical vignettes that show the evolution of the field. New pedagogical features--"Roadmaps" showing the development of a given topic, and "Design Boxes" giving examples of design decisions--will make the 3rd edition even more practical and user-friendly than before. The 3rd edition strikes a careful balance between classical methods of determining compressible flow, and modern numerical and computer techniques (such as CFD) now used widely in industry & research. A new Book Website will contain all problem solutions for instructors.
Customer Reviews:
Great Text.......2007-05-13
This book is a great graduate or undergraduate text on compressible flow. It covers all the major topics with thorough and elegant proofs of the equations. Anderson is probably one of the best authors who write about extended topics in fluid mechanics (CFD, aerodynamics, compressible flow). I reference this text often.
An Approachable Fluids Textbook.......2007-02-09
John Anderson has a very informal and entertaining style in his textbooks, and to me, its a great change of pace from most fluids texts. Compressible flow provides a great foundation for this (despite the very funny review below this one) surprisingly entertaining book.
Anderson introduces concepts from one-dimensional flow to normal and oblique shocks to linearized flow theory in a story-like manner, with plenty of worked examples and appropriate end-of-chapter review questions. All in all, this book is about as approchable as you can get in the fluids field.
Lacks the entertainment the title leads you to believe.......2006-10-25
I picked up this book for entertainment reading on my recent trip to barbados. The title of the book is indeed intriguing and understandably led me to believe the book would be a real page turner, I was dissapointed. Character development was slow and the main character Mr. Oblique Shock was totally unbelievable. In short the book left me wanting a more reasoned plot line, especially with regards to the theta beta mach rendering. Perhaps worth it if you can find it at a yard sale, the comic version preferably.
The best engineering book I have ever read.......2001-04-20
This book was an indispensible study tool for my PhD qualifying exam in high temp gas dynamics. Before reading this book I had never had a formal compressible flow class and I think that it covers the fundamental concepts of frozen compressible flow very well. If you don't have an excellent understanding of normal and oblique shocks, expansion fans, nozzle flow, blunt body flow and shock tubes after reading this book, you haven't been paying attention!
a little disappointing.......2000-01-19
Well written classic supersonic theory, but "flavor" of numerical methods is given only : I think a college textbook of that price should give more than just flavor. Classic supersonic theory is not complete and needs to be integrated with other prior classic books (i.e. Ferri, Aerodynamics of supersonic flows). Overally, a little disappointing about the quantity of information given.

A must for any dance student, or teacher!.......2000-06-17
Irene Dowd's ability to describe the anatomy of movement is incredible. She uses imagery that is beneficial to the true understanding of movement in the human form. This book is a must for anyone who teaches alternative mind-body exercise or dance technique, it will give you a new way of thinking. Students of dance will also benefit from the articles, by gaining insight into their own movement.

Book Description
Benjamin Banneker was born free when most blacks in this country were still enslaved. But it troubled him that not all blacks were free. An accomplished astronomer and mathematician, he decided to take a stand against slavery by writing to then-Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson. This is the story of their extraordinary correspondence.

Benjamin + Molly.......2007-03-11
I bought Dear Benjamin Banneker, because I had read Molly Bannekey to my second graders (as part of lessons on "questioning") and my students loved Molly Bannekey. At the end of Molly Bannekey, she is sitting with a grandson named Benjamin. We wanted to see if this was the same Benjamin - and it was. The content and vocabulary is a little difficult for second graders, but it has some nice tie-ins to Martin Luther King, Jr. and the fight for equal rights. It would also be very appropriate for immediate grades and studies on colonial America.

Benjamin Banneker review.......2005-10-31
Inside Benjamin Banneker: Scientist and Mathematician lies many secrets of the life of one of the 18th centuries most accomplished black Americans. To find out more about this man, read the book by Kevin Conley. The book is all about the life of Benjamin Banneker, an 18th century free black American who wrote almanacs and was an original surveyor of Washington D.C. I would recommend this book to any Americans who wanted to learn more about the people involved with the history of their country.
This book being a biography, I feel that I must review my thoughts on the man being written about. Benjamin Banneker was a very important man of our country, and this book does him justice. He was a man of many accomplishments, and none of them were easy to come by. He had to manage a tobacco farm and complete astronomy calculations all while trying to get his almanac published. He was a hard worker, and that is why I admire him.
One aspect of the book that I was really impressed with was the way the author used vivid vocabulary in just the right spots. He described everyhitng that was important with enhanced vocabulary and detail. An example of this would be when the author was describing the detail of Mr. Bannekers work he would use phrases like "nearly incomprehensible" or "mind boggling". The vocabulary in this book made it much more interesting than it would have been if it had not been used so well.
I think that the author of this book did Mr. Banneker the justice he deserved. He includes all of the major things that Banneker accomplished in his life and really makes it feel like you know him. He included many helpful visuals and pictures of Mr. Banneker's work, which really made the reader understand how hard the things he was doing were.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about one of the great people that lived before them. Overall, Benjamin Banneker: Scientist And Mathematician is a very good book and should be read by all.
