this book is a very useful guide. i am a junior designer and i appreciate the details and stories that are provided for the logos in this book. whats just as important as the final project, is the process a designer goes thru to achieve the end result. this book does a good job at providing insight to that conceptual process.

I love this book, and refer to it often. It has tons of logo illustrations, along with the idea behind the design of the logo. Some logos even include the brainstorm/mockup sketches that were made to show to the client, so you know what was going through the designer's head. It is so great to see how other designers think. It also has timelines that go through certain logos that have been around a very long time, and shows the changes that they've gone through. A must-have for anyone who wants to try logo design.

Design Trumps Function?.......2007-03-11

For a design book, it would be fabulous except for the fact that you need a magnifying glass in order to read it (what appears to be 5pt type set in gray). For this reason, when design and layout of the book negates the purpose (function) of the book, it is rendered useless. Rockport is well known for its beautiful graphic design books, but I have noticed several of their other titles also designed this way. Sorry I bought it, sold it for a loss.

Most of the type in this book has been done using a size 6 Font which as far as I am concerned makes it practically unreadable. The content may be great, but I can't tell as I refuse to ruin my eyes trying to read type this small. It remainds me of the disclaimers that advertisers use at the bottom so you can't read them. Unless you absolutely must have this book, I would strongly advise finding another one

Great for Big City Designers, but not for me.......2007-01-22

I produce newsletters for non-profit's on a true shoestring budget. I am constantly searching for inspiration that is do-able on a shoestring budget (no color, no fancy paper, no long-winded discussions about the "role" of the designer - "sheesh") but found literally nothing in this book helpful to me, that makes the book worth keeping on my shelf.

If you have big budgets and staff, this book might be useful for you.

When going with two colors is a "challenge" you know that the designers whose work is being held up as the best of design really have no clue about the challenges faced by those working for needy but worthwhile agencies who cannot afford to hire "designers" but need to get information out, and attempt to do so in a visually pleasing and accessible way.

If you are looking for a book that you can read, study and learn from, keep looking. The type in this book is so unbelieveably small as to make it practically unreadable. If you thought that the old "Small print at the bottom of the page" was small, you should see this book. My advice, avoid it like the Plauge!

I ordered this book with great expectations but found it disappointing. I think it's hard to publish a book like this because it would need constant updating. I thought someof the "great" deals were outdated and the "great" adventures not as great as hyped. You can find better, more current information just by doing some searches on the web. This book might be a good intro for beginner dog owners who don't have a clue as to what kind of activities are possible but the knowledgeable dog owner who is really into their dogs would already know all the stuff in this book. Save your money and get another book.

Fun and useful.......2006-01-07

This book has lists and lists of useful stuff, but it is so far from being a shopping list book. Each category of stuff includes really excellent consumer information on what makes an item good or bad, how to choose wisely, and what you can get in all price ranges that your dog will love. There are even some cool cat things for those of us with both kinds of pets.

Absolutely the very best book of it's kind, entertaining, loads of great information that is written in an easy-to-understand layout.
Darlene Arden is my favorite pet author and I have enjoyed all three of her books because her writing style is not only informative but so entertaining as well. I use this book all the time because I have 4 dogs, 2 big and 2 little and Ms. Arden covers it all! I am a shopaholic when it comes to my dogs and Ms. Arden has opened up a much bigger dog world for me, things and places I never knew existed! I have always been a huge fan of Darlene Arden. She's smart, articulate and absolutely passionate about dogs -- she may just be dog's best friend. I have all three of her books and each one contains valuable and timely information on some aspect of the relationship between humans and dogs.

I especially enjoyed this book and find myself going back to it time and time again. It is a detailed compilation of neat stuff you can do WITH your dog, as well as great things to buy FOR your dog. Sure, you could spend weeks on the Internet and find a lot of this information yourself, but Darlene has done all of us a favor by compiling everything in this handy, inexpensive book. Most of the items listed were totally unfamiliar to me, but I will be checking out many in the weeks to come.

Thank you, Darlene for all that you do on behalf of animals. I intend to give several copies to friends this Christmas.

This is a good gift idea but I found that I just couldn't get into recording in it. It would be more helpful if it asked you questions instead of you just filling in whatever you wanted.

Marion Jones was a good kid she grow up with a loving family and didn't get in to trouble often well she never did. Marion was a good student and would all way do her homework when she got home from school.
Marion Jones and her struggles with life and her accomplishments in the life. She had some hard ones and some that she will remember for the rest of her life. At the age of 5 she was all ways a good student in school. She would get A's all the time I think there was onetime that she had a b in one of her classes but other than that was it. In little leage she was beating evey body that she was running a genst was getting beat. She was really fast at that age . she was the bst on her tram then and I think that she was the best one on every team that she was on. At the age of 13 she was able to touch the rim at 10 feet. At the age of 14 she was dunking at a regular 10 feet hoop. She would start all of the games that she played. She was a runner in school to but she wasn't that good back then. The kept on practicing every day.
She got a scholarship to play in college to the North Carolina Tar Heels. And she gladly excepted it. She didn't start every game until her 2nd year there and then started to start every game. She was really good at basketball at the time was she playing. She was the best player on the team and there was like 30 people on the team at that point. She was the starter for point gard. That Is the best place to play I think it is any way. Some of the people said that she had the sweetest jump shot of all the player on the team. She only dunk one time at the game but it was during worm up so I didn't count but it was still impressive. It was cool because the people in the crowed was like (WOW)But that game that she had wasn't one of her best games she only got 20 point that night. Her all time heights point in a game was 45 points. So fare that has been the most on that team that any player for girls team had ever got.
She didn't finish college because she got a chance to go running for free with the best instructor so she could run. She all ways wonted to run and now was her chance to do it so she decided to take a chance. So she did and its paying off for her. Latte on she was working with her coach and they started talking and they started go to dinner. Then they started going out to dinner and then after a while he proposed to her. That all i have to say with out giveing the book away.

This book really gives you insight you wouldn't normally read about. The book starts when she was born, and continues up to the 2000 Olympics. Rapoport does an excellent job in writing about Marion. You go through the pain with Marion. I couldn't put the book down.

A Great Book for Sports fans!.......2000-07-01

This is a really good book about Marion Jones, the athlete who is trying to win five gold medals at the Olympics in Sydney. It is written in a fun way, and things aren't really slow for long periods. I am a track athlete, so I understand and can relate to the 200 meters, 100 meters and long jump (these are the events that she competes in). I think that it would be more enjoyable reading this book if you are famillar with track things. This book also covers her basketball career and when she was younger. I am a big femenist and I like to read about women who have changed a lot in sports, and this book informed me more about a great star.
