If you have ever been a guardian to a cat, or a cat has been a guardian to you, read this book! If you've never had a cat companion, you will probably want to run out and adopt one after reading this book. Cats are marvelous creatures and this book is full of interesting stories about them.

There's a wonderful story about a talking cat. There are stories about how cats have rescued people from almost certain death. These are not far fetched stories, but are amazing and true accounts of some wonderful felines. I highly recommend this book.

What a great book. Similar in style to the "chicken soup" type of books, containing a number of true short stories of cats and their owners. You might even shed a tear or two, such as I did in the story of Kitty, who survived a trip under the hood of a car! Recommended!

In a world where all around is apparent madness, this is a perfect book to read from just before going to sleep. It is
well written, with a quick easy style that is typical of Hanson and Steiger. The stories are both interesting and
uplifting, with nothing that will bring about any uneasy dreams. Only buy this book if you enjoy reading in bed, the

This book is expertly written by Ian Cooling and the collectibles are superbly photographed by James Mann. It details the fascinating memoribilia and factory-issued artifacts that paralleled the growth of one of the most successful British car makers of this century. From the early Swallow beginnings to the XJ220 and XK8, the book explores brochures, racing automobilia, posters & advertising, models, mascots, and badges. I see something new everytime I open the book...and you don't have to be a Jaguar owner or enthusuast to enjoy it. One of the favorites in my Jaguar library.

Incredible Book.......2003-11-12

It was approximately 25 years ago when I first encountered this book at my university library (Clemson U). I came across it one day while doing some research. At this time tropical/house plants were becoming the rage. This book, loaded with photos of specimens, showed the incredible variety of plants I was not aware of. I spent a good bit of my study time pouring over the pages and taking inventory of plants. It's worth tracking down to purchase a copy.

I have been searching for this book for 7 years. I could only turn to the libraries and the government Parks Board for reference. So i would very much appreciate if your company could make it available in the market.
It is a brilliant book for reference especially if one is in the industry. I have not come across any books that could come close to Graf's compilation of plants. I am also very interested in his other book Tropica which is also not been made available in the market. So please could i at least order the book from this review column

The most thorough pictorial book on plants that's out........1998-05-31

I have the Series 3 Seventh Edition. It is the best pictorial book on identifying plants that is out and if you are so lucky to purchase one, you will be envied by your fellow gardners. They are scarce and those who have these books treasure them and do not give them up.

Brilliant.......1997-12-13

I bought my version in 1967 and consider it to be the best illustrated horticultural book I have seen. I still have it. It does suffer a major disadvantage in that it is too thick for one volume making it very unstable to read on your lap,the danger being that it's weight will cause it to drop off while you are holding a page. I have not seen Exotica 4 and would appreciate knowing what changes were made if that is possible. I have to be fair though and tell you that I will not be buying. Thankyou.

Ramsey Burt incorporates so much in this book that it can be overwhelming but I suggest grabbing onto what you think is the good stuff and delve into it. He combines the historical, anthropological and political happenings of the 1920s and 30s with dance so well that it's hard to image thinking of any of them as separate, in any part. I would suggest this book to any student of the dance that has had some 20th century dance history background,so that you can concentrate on the theory and discourse presented in the book.

The value of Burt's book lies in its wide-ranging scope: taking the issue of how early modern dance and the experience(s) of modernity articulated each other in early 20th century Europe and America, Burt focuses upon pressing questions of sexuality, identity, class, consumer culture, and so forth. Chapters on Josephine Baker and "primitivist" discourses of the body, as well as rationalism, mass production and the chorus line are engaging, if also open to debate. In this sense, the volume provides a good introduction to the "new critical studies" of dance, an approach which is informed by recent developments in cultural studies. However, the book is also marred by a number of factual errors (example: Burt incorrectly claims that "In 1922, [...] Le Corbusier and Jeanneret exhibited designs for La Ville Contemporaine"--unaware that Jeanneret and Le Corbusier are in fact the same person, and that the team consisted of Le Corbusier and Ozenfant) as well as editorial gaffes: names are mispelled, articles cited incorrectly. These mistakes are not simply slips or failures to catch typos, but rather reflect the book's main weakness, which is that it at once too wide-ranging and almost exclusively dependent upon secondary sources, which suggests to me that Burt's expertise does not lie in historical research, but rather in broad synthesis. As such, the book provides a useful introduction to a number of different phenomena in early modern dance, and offers some ways of approaching dance through the lens of critical studies of culture, but its arguments remain open to challenge and revision.

This is a very thin book, so there is only a little of everything in it. The section, which is more detailed is the one on the different types of dwarf hamsters. It will not be a good book for first-time dwarf hamsters owners. I will only recommend this to those who are already familiar with dwarf hamsters and want an additional read.

So catty, so [frisky], so entertaining. As much as I enjoyed this little book, I keep wondering when a book about famous Hollywood friendships will be written. Not a book on Hollywood marriages, or love relationships, but about platonic friendships that lasted past the shared interviews and photo-ops of a movie made together. It's impossible that they never existed, or weren't observed, but they're hardly written about in great detail. I'm sure that others would be as interested in knowing this side of famous actors as they would be in reading about thier fueds.

I picked up this book for lack of there being any better subjects at the time. I was surprised that it wasnt as backstabbing and harsh as the other books I have read in this category. It had more dealing with leading roles and top billing then the usual sex and drugs in other reads. Also it is for all ages and doesnt deal with the teen pop there is today, asother books tend to zero in on.
From the foursome of I love Lucy, Sonny and Cher, Bette Davis vs. Joan crawford to Boris Carloff vs. Bela Lugosi, Natalie Wood, Jackie and Joan Collins. Theres a bit on Julia and Eric Roberts, and Michael Jackson, probably the youngest in the group. It is all very interesting with stories more believeable than other books, alot of the context comes from true interviews with the author himself.
It isnt a book i would reccommend running out to buy immediately, but if it is there and you have nothing better to read at the moment, try it. It is just the same as watching an old version of entertainment tonight.

of course folks dig HollyWood Feuds.it's not any fun without wondering if folks truly dig each other.and this Book unloads on that&adds so much Humor&is a really cool read.it's always funny when folks try to down play a Spat or the fact they don't really dig somebody&smile&grin on TV knowing Damn Well they can't stand whom ever they have to acknowledge on TV or Give a Award to or Work with.Books like this are Good for Laughter&unload.

The Greatest Dish on Earth.......2001-08-27

Even though I'm familiar with almost all of the characters, and their feuds, that are contained in this book, I am truly impressed at the wealth of quotes and new information that Mr. Hadleigh has amassed here. I didn't think I could learn anything new, after having devoured all the Hollywood Babylon books and anything else I could get my hands on, and I was quite pleasantly surprised that Celebrity Feuds brings to light much new information I've never read before, perhaps owing to Mr. Hadleigh's Hollywood connections -- he is the author of several books on Hollywood and he has gained direct access to some of Hollywood's biggest stars like Bette Davis and behind-the-scene geniuses like George Cukor and Cecil Beaton. If you are looking for definitive and delicious dish, this is the book for you...

A whole lotta fun..........2000-06-17

I felt kind of guilty ordering this book - like I was revealing some immoral interest in gossip. But, wow, was I glad when it arrived! This is a well-written account of some infamous and lesser known Hollywood feuds, divided into chapters focusing on a specific 'tiff' that stand alone (and also include shorter summaries of other fights - typically related to the major story - at the end of each one, which can be read on their own as well). And it is so much fun! Sure, it's voyeuristic to hear the inside dirt on private relationships, however publicly the individuals lived, yet there's a lot of valuable, interesting information and insights into the celebrities discussed, which makes it particularly fascinating and revealing. It is abundantly clear that the author has done quite a bit of research and is thoroughly acquainted with the celebrities and feuds contained within the book. I highly recommend Celebrity Feuds to any fan of movies, television and/or celebrities, or anyone who just likes to hear some dirt once in a while. It's great on car trips - I recently read chapters aloud as we traveled, and we found it an enjoyable, interesting and hilarious way to pass the time.

Just barely worth reading . . ........2003-11-08

This isn't a thick book, because there just aren't that many letters between Maxwell and O'Connor. I only picked it up because, after reading a few of O'Connor's short stories, I immediately decided that I needed to read every word that was ever written by or about this man. Except for one lousy biography, I didn't regret the time at all.

But this, honestly, isn't a great collection. The letters start out rather dry, and even as they get more affectionate, you still don't feel like there's any meat there. They discuss their families, and how much they like them, and how badly they want to see each other - but regarding their opinions on anything else, or an idea of how they went about writing their works, one gets very little: a lot of frustration about writer's block and some comments that are only useful if you're already familiar with Maxwell's novels (I've only read So Long See You Tomorrow, which isn't mentioned in this book) and O'Connor's later New Yorker stories. And - except for The Ugly Duckling, a story that Maxwell inexplicably didn't like - most of O'Connor best work did not come in this period. The most moving part of the correspondence, actually, comes when his creativity starts to dry up - and anyone that has read his Collected Stories can feel his genius exhausting itself towards the end.

A lot of it, too, just reads like little notes passed between friends - I imagine they saved their weightier ideas for when they could see each other, or could have long conversations on the phone. None of them have the literary feel that Chekhov's letters do - those are works of art, as letters often were when it was hard to see people face to face or just pick up the phone. The letters are often just summaries of events - this story is going well, this one not so well, the kids are fine - that were updates between friends: they're not interesting for an outsider, unless you're curious whether the family lives of happily married writers are as ordinary as ours (yes, they are - all happy families do indeed ressemble each other).

The part of this book still sharp in my memory is the remembrance that Maxwell wrote of O'Connor after he died. It's just a few pages, but the weight of years of affection and respect are there. A beautiful piece of writing. And one meant to be read - which is more than I can say, I'm afraid, for the letters. Spend your time on their books: you'll get a better sense of what their lives were about.
