I must admit to purchasing this because Danny Gregory did some of the illustrations. That said, as I read I became intrigued with what I could learn about my own compulsion, and sometimes strong commitment, to painting. Although the star of this show seems to be Paris, the lessons about turning away from other preoccupations and just getting to it, no matter where you are, can be applied to any location. Instilling discipline in a routine, albeit one that is wrapped in time and self-permission, is a strong central message. I liked the practicality of many suggestions and the devil-may-care attitude of others.

After reading Eric's wonderful book Sleep Thinking & having my writing improve a millionfold because of it, I joined Eric's Yahoo!Group newsletter. He's talked about this book. It didn't do a "thing" for me because I really hate Paris. But his other books have helped sooo much, I keep reading his newsletter.

His latest one said:

>>When an editor buys a book from you that in her mind is in the inspirational" category, it can be decidedly hard for you to slip material into the book that is controversial and meaty.

Although A Writer's Paris is an "inspirational book," in the sense that it is meant to inspire you to go to Paris and write, I also wanted to talk about class and privilege, religious opposition to scientific thought, and other "non-inspirational" matters. I tucked in several such essays and wondered how many would make the final cut.

Some of these meaty essays made it into the book and some did not. ...

I am pleased that pieces like Privilege and the Place Vendome, Gay Mayors, and Darwin's Wife made it into the finished product. <<

To me, those "meaty essays" sound like they are talking about what Fiction is really all about.

I just wish all of them had been included.

Maybe Eric will write a "meaty essays" book someday.

I ordered this book in November of 2003,and still have not gotten it. It looks like one of the best coaster books out there. Has anyone gotten it yet, every time I email Amazon about it they say the same thing, "its been backordered and we dont know when we'll get more in" But it always says it ships in 10-13 days...so whats up with that...I WANT MY BOOK!!!

This book was not actually released until August 30th. I have not recieved my copy yet, either, but I do have the original German version of this same book, and I love it. The pictures are really nice, and the words, what of them I can read, are very informative, as well. There are many nice pictures and blueprints of rides I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who is seriously interested in roller coasters.

If your portly pet has gained too much weight, it can lead to health problems such as diabetes, hip and back problems, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Pet owners concerned about their dog's or cat's weight problem can lead their pet out of obesity by following the sound advice and practical ideas in Plump Pups and Fat Cats. Animal behaviorist Steve Duno has developed a seven-point weight-loss program not unlike the ones that work for humans: the plan emphasizes eating the right foods at the right times, exercise, and directing your pet toward healthier activities than munching on kibble.

Duno's first point of order is to ask pet owners to take a hard look at their pet's poor eating habits and the role the owner plays. After all, as Duno points out, dogs and cats can't open the refrigerator themselves. By recording your pet's weekly eating and activities in a journal, you may be surprised at how many extra table scraps and snacks, and how little exercise, Fido or Fifi actually gets. Duno then helps you figure out your animal's caloric needs, based on age, weight, breed, and activity level.

Duno also explains why free-feeding (leaving the food dish out all day) can actually work against your pet's natural instincts. In place of free-feeding, which many people do while they're at work to alleviate pet boredom, he recommends adding variety to diet and exercise. Duno suggests a number of exercise options for both dogs and cats (that's right, you can get your cat to exercise). The book consists of pictures of various paper dolls, some are no longer being printed. The book is colorful and interesting. It is a treasure for paper doll collectors and anyone interested in paper dolls.

I loved the books big, colorful illustrations. The instructions were step by step and easy to follow. The materials list for each project made it easy to get organized for the project before I started. I also found the floral arranging tips very useful. I worked at a floral shop for a brief period of time and found the instructions easier to follow than my trainer! A good book for people who love to make crafts for their homes, friends or families.
