This textbook covers the basics of physiology excellently. Thetext itself is informative yet concise, the descriptions given areclear and it is very comprehensible. Suitable for peclinical years asa primary textbook and also useful for those wanting a quick reminderof the basics, anyone with a general interest in the subject will alsofind the book genuinely interesting and informative. Theillustrations/diagrams are clear, plentiful and complement and clarifythe text appropriately.
The book is divided into 15 chapters, eachone dealing with a specific "body system". The study aidsand self evaluation sections (a series of questions and answers) atthe end of each chapter highlight the key facts and are invaluable asaids to studying the subject. For those who want to extend theirknowledge further a suggested reading list also at the end of thechapter will prove very useful. The physiology of all the mainspecies is covered in great detail, with attention to avianphysiology, which is a major benefit since many general physiologytextbooks tend to overlook this aspect. The basic anatomy of thespecies is also reviewed when necessary, which again aids in theunderstanding of the topic(s) being discussed.
The book presentsinformation in an interesting and inspiring manner and with it's easyto understand text and informative illustrations it really is a mustfor everyone who wishes to learn about animal physiology.

I bought this book to do a small animal neurology course and have found it extremely useful as a clinical reference. This book has helped make this subject more understandable and is in an easy to find format. A useful addition to a Practice library.

This is the book I pull from my shelf if I need help with a neurological problem. It is well organized making it a great reference. It would be a great book for a veterinary student or practicing veterinarian.

A dog-saver!!.......2007-06-21
I bought this after I adopted a year-old female beagle from a shelter. I didn't know what I had let myself in for!! Beagles, being "hound" dogs, march to the beat of a different drummer. . .i.e., their noses!! This book really helped me understand what drives beagles and address the issues of re-training her for her new home. I now keep it as a reference, to remind myself that I was the one needing training in Beagle-speak!!!
Great book for people who have never had a Beagle........2002-03-14
I have had several diffent breeds of dogs over my lifetime, but never had a beagle. We rescued our Beagle in Virginia where we were Camping with our RV. She had been wandering the campground since May The people who worked at the campground discovered her wandering and found she had recently had puppies because her nipples were pink and here it was August and no one had claimed her, The people who worked for the campground who took care of her were told by the manager if she is not adopted or claimed by September she will have to go to the pound. This was very upsetting to my husband and I. I went to the library and searched for books related to Beagles I read several and found this one to be the most informative for housebreaking, training, and giving information about beagles, their characteristics and temperment. I recommend this book to anyone who never had a beagle and those who already own one it will be useful to both.

I have a wonderful beagle that I adopted from the Humane Society when she was a little less than a year old. This book gives an excellent overview in the overall care and personality of beagles. The photographs will certainly delight any dog lover and especially anyone who owns a beagle. These winsome, intelligent, alert little hounds are popular pets and this book is a welcome teaching tool for those seriously interested in beagle care. This author has done an excellent job of communicating information that practically all ages can absorb. For beagle lovers and/or beagle owners, this is one book to have.
Excellent Reference Book.......2000-05-23
I adopted a 3yr old Beagle from the pound a year ago and wish I had had this book. It tells you all about Beagle personality and how to help correct problems specific to the breed. The author really did her homework talking to breeders and current beagle owners. In addition to beagle-specific topics, there is a lot of good general "how to raise a dog" information. I highly recommend this book for those who are currently owned by a Beagle (or will be in the future).

In the attempt to overcome the crisis of knowledge in wisdom thought, even the non-Essene texts from Qumran developed the wisdom notion of a pre-existent order of being and history which was to be realised in the Eschaton. This notion was taken up in non-wisdom texts and elaborated into a dualistic ordering of the world and of history, structured in epochs. In this form the notion was used by the Essene community to deal theologically with their negative experience of reality (schism, persecution by Hasmonoaeans, delay of the Eschaton). The results of this investigation are thus able to confirm critical points of the thesis of G. von Rad that apocalyptic developed out of wisdom. FR Schon in den nichtessenischen Texten von Qumran entwickelte sich zur Bewaltigung der weisheitlichen Erkenntniskrise die Vorstellung einer dem Menschen verborgenen praexistenten weisheitlichen Seins- und Geschichtsordnung, die sich in Eschaton realisiert. Diese Vorstellung wurde in nichtweisheitlichen Texten aufgenommen und zu einer dualistischen, epochal gegliederten Welt- und Geschichtsordnung ausgebaut. So ausgestaltet wurde diese Vorstellung von der essenischen Gemeinschaft instrumentalisiert, um ihre negativen Wirklichkeitserfahrungen (Schisma, Verfolgung durch die Hasmonaer, Ausbleiben des Eschatons) theologisch zu verarbeiten. Die Ergebnisse der vorliegenden Arbeit sind somit geeignet, die These G. v. Rads die Apokalyptik habe sich aus der Weisheit entwickelt, in wichtigen Punkten zu bestatigen. SHORT TEXT. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt die erste, zum Thema Weisheit und Qumran veroffentlichte Monographie dar. Die Frage, inwieweit die essenische Gemeinschaft von der Weisheit beeinflu[beta]t wurde, wird am Beispiel des Zusammenhangs von weisheitlicher Urordnung und Pradestination geklart. Hierzu werden sowohl weisheitliche als auch nichtweisheitliche Texte aus den Hohlen von Qumran untersucht. CV. Armin Lange (Dr. theol. 1995) ist Assistent am Institut fur antikes Judentum und hell. Religionsgeschichte in Tubingen. Neben mehreren Aufsatzen zu den Texten von Qumran erschienen von ihm die Bucher "Weisheit und Torheit bei Kohelet und in seiner Umwelt" und "Computer Aided Text-Reconstruction and Transcription".
